Calla faces charges against her for changing the past. Her use of the Travel Glasses resulted in the creation of two writings that affected the lives of Edgar, the inventor of the Travel Glasses, and Valcas, their prior owner. Now Calla must explain her actions before the Time and Space Travel Agency.

The hearing does not end well. The travel commissioner finds Calla guilty as charged and forces her to choose between two harsh penalties. Despite the risk of becoming lost herself, Calla accepts a dangerous travel mission that may help her find her father. She teams up with a group of talented travelers. While working with them, she soon discovers that she has a special travel talent of her own.

Pursued by the sentient being of white light that’s been tracking her father’s bloodline, Calla fears her newfound talents may not be enough to protect her and her teammates before they complete their mission.

Insight Kindling is the second installment in The Call to Search Everywhen serial series.

I don't know, maybe this would be more appealing to a middle grade audience? I just didn't connect and it triggered one of my pet peeves. Also I read it after reading a different book that was a stunning time travel novel - which could be influencing how I feel about this book. While this is a time travel series, there was no time travel in this book.

I felt like very little really happened in this book and that the focus was on the "relationship" between Calla and Valcas.

I'm telling you right now, I am NOT a fan of her love interest. Valcas is brooding, high maintenance, non-communicative, distant, and all around asshat.

I also didn't like the insinuation from her father that SHE had some obligation to be careful with Valcas' heart.

WTF does that mean? It sounded almost like she was being told she had to love him back because he was so fragile.

Serious pet peeve for me here:
Just because he's a sad sad broken manboy , doesn't mean you need to be in a relationship with him or try to fix him. When you see someone like him, run away in the other direction as fast as you can.
run
He can't love himself, let alone someone else. He is NOT relationship material.

I am very team Ray, although I can tell that is likely not to be in this series that focuses so heavily on Calla and Valcas. And of course Calla won't choose someone stable, open, strong yet gentle, because that would be healthy .

The fire falls were cool though.

Thank you netgalley for sending me this book in exchange of an honest review

Overall I think this book is a decent read, it focused a lot on Calla and Valcas relationship. Which I guess I'm fine with, since i don't really hate the pair.

Fascinating, isn't it? Plaka said to me "the worlds are beautiful, despite being cluttered with all the moves around them and us. Everything happens so quickly that we don't get to appreciate the full beauty of all of it until we are frozen in time.' His words rang in my ears.

I just love this quote

Great Series

I am really enjoying these books. Traveling adventures, Calla and how she learns who she is and an adventure in finding her father through not only familiar worlds but unfamiliar worlds as well. Definitely a series I have not been able to put down. I can't wait to see what comes next. I loved the character development in this book.

Beware of mild spoilers.

Insight Kindling starts off right where we left off with Travel Glasses, which was amazing since I started Insight Kindling within the same hour I finished Travel Glasses.

I read a few other reviews before writing this one, as it's pretty complicated to review a sequel without making it very much alike to the first.

I ship Ray/Calla plenty more than I do Calla/Valcas. I find Calla/Valcas very weird, especially by the ending of this book, Calla's reaction to Valcas confession thing was very unreal, overdramatic and a bit childish. As mentioned in my review for Travel Glasses, we grow to dislike Valcas, then he turns out to be good and Calla begins to swoon? It was too quick. He kidnapped, terrorised and stalked you Calla! Yet she still likes him, and gets extreme when her heart gets broken by Valcas. Valcas was so caring for Calla through this novel, I liked him. Then this action, this STUPID action which he believes is to protect Calla, it ruined it for me. I don't like Valcas anymore, especially after the epilogue. Valcas became something we call Jerks. He kissed her, leading her onto a romancy, we can be together now, then it switched around. No. No romance. No "we can be together". Its all, "your life is too short compared to mine, its not worth it, go love this guy instead." I understand most of Calidora's reaction to this, but I don't understand how she came to love him so quick. Oh, and when Valcas said he would do anything to regain her trust, or something among the lines of that, WHAT A LIE.

Ray was always sweet, always charming and smart. He is a complicated character, or atleast I predict he will be in the next book. Ray was very kind to Calla ever since the start, Calla had a liking for him.

The novel began to lean towards more of a romantic theme than the sci-fi. There was a bit of repetition with certain scenes and dialogues. However its is still a quick and gripping read. Dessalls writing was just as smooth and simply followable as the first novel.

I hate Calla's father. I cant stand him. He is so annoying, has no clue how to be a father, really pisses me off. Plaka (Callas Father) gives no thought to his actions at all, or he is just so very selfish. I cant. I cant come to liking him. An example is that when he reunited with his daughter, his reaction is to get angry at Valcas. Plaka even critiques Calla! There was never any fatherly moments, there were times when Calla would start one, but Plake would just shoo them away.

Calla continues to develop, my linking for Calidora expanded into another world. She is a complicated character yet easy to empathise with. Heck, even I felt deeply betrayed by Valcas. Ivory is introduced in Insight Kindling is is truly a character anyone would come to love. She is fun to read about, has plenty of talent, along with wit and quite the humour.

World building was perfect in Insight Kindling. I absolutely loved the fire falls. That whole setting was vivid, was so damn original. Just like the story, so damn original.

I look forward to the next book in the series as this was an amazing continuation of Travel Glasses.

If you've read my review of book 1, you probably know I didn't really like Calla..i'm happy to say i don't have that problem anymore!

Calla really won me over in this book, i don't know if it's the transformation of her character itself or that she just seemed more brave. So the last book ended when Valcas was taking Calla to the TSTA for breaking some rules and she now has to face her judgement. She has to pay a huge fine or help Valcas in finding a lost person. Lost people are those who get lost while time travelling, And it just so happens to be that the person Calla has to look for is her very own father! But Calla knows it's too much of a coincidence especially when Valcas seems happy about her going on this mission. Valcas' true intentions are revealed and we find out exactly why he did those things in book 1. I have to admit, he is a kind of devious genius!

The mystery of the white light that's been targeting Calla is finally revealed. It's called an uproar and it feeds off the energy of some 'talented' travellers. Calla, Valcas and her two new companions, Ivory and Ray journey together to find her father with the Uproar hot on their heels. We unravel more and more of Valcas' past which seemed to be OVERFLOWING with secrets.

I get that the first book focused more on the world building but this one was just pure thrilling adventure! There was still more intriguing stuff we learned but i just loved the journey they had to go through and everything just came together perfectly. And get this-there's a waterfall of fire they have to cross to get to the cave behind it! A FIRE WATERFALL!!! And then the author went on to put the layers in the waterfall. so the first is fire-ergo you get burnt, the second is a soothing balm and the third is water! These layers are used to make sure you get to the cave without looking like a barbecued sausage. But how do they get out if there is no soothing balm and water layer in front of the fire? See, to go out they have to go in reverse-water first, balm and then fire-but how are they NOT gonna ended up like a barbecued sausage!? I just LOVED that idea- it really amazed me!

The epilogue really left me breathless. I really can't figure Valcas out, what else could he possibly be hiding? But hiss will probably be his biggest secret to date...and we have to wait till book 3 to find out what it was...*curls up in a corner and prays for book 3 to come out faster*

The second book in this thrilling story is full of adventure and romance with a plot that will definitely keep you hooked till the very end! Cannot wait till the third book! My favorite part is definitely the waterfall though if you hand't guessed from my rambling :P!

After reading Travel Glasses, I could hardly wait for the next in the series to come out. It was worth the wait. Insight Kindling picks up right where Travel Glasses ends. This one follows Calla as she teams up with other travelers to search for her father.
The story is brilliantly written and the new characters are introduced seamlessly. In some ways, the travelers' journeys and exotic locations brought me back to some of my favorite childhood fantasy films, such as Labyrinth and The Princess Bride. But what drew me in to this tale was Calla's emotional entanglements, both romantic and otherwise. The character is complex, but real and easy to empathize with.
The more I read, the more I'd recommend this series to fans of Doctor Who. Much like the television series, the ability to traverse both space and time is integral to the tale, but in an ever present background sort of way. Once again, I can't wait for the next adventure.

Calla faces the Time and Space Travel Agency to learn her punishment for altering the past. She is surprised by the TSTA's decision. Accompanied by a travel team, she must find her father. Doing so will take her on a journey she never expected. Will she find herself while looking for her father? Or will Calla end up just as lost as Plaka?

It's very neat to see the traveling world in this book. We get lots of details of different things with traveling. It did NOT feel like an info dump either. *Bonus* It is the story and it all comes out to help us understand the way of time and space travels. So much to the way of doing things and rules along with people having special abilities to do unique things in traveling. We also find out, at the very beginning, what is after Calla! I'm so glad this book jumped in with details and answers. Thank you, Chess!

With all the great things we learn of the world, we get to see Calla fall in love. Calla doesn't realize it until she's gone and fallen. But she does. This is Calla and Valcas's story of falling in love all over again while they are looking for her father, and stuck in the Fire Falls.

Now I need the next book, due out later 2015, to see where and when the characters are and how they are coping.

Through Calla's travels of time and space she's broken TSTA rules and now must stand trial for the daily reminders that were created, by her and in her name. As long as she stays out of jail, Valcas knows of a volunteer mission she can join. Valcas had bigger plans in mind since the first time he meet Calla. He wants to find his best friend, and Calla's dad. To do that, he needs her help. She has a close bond to her father, by blood. All she'd been through was a test to see if she could travel. Calla's going to be spending a lot of time with Valcas and this is not the same Valcas she grew fond of. Or is he still there?

I slipped right into the story with Jill voicing the characters. It felt she reads the story with more emotion in Calla from the first word. She speaks with personality for all the characters along with voice differences such as scratchy or deeper. I really enjoyed the differentiation between them all, making it easy to tell who was talking. She even carried through with similar voices from the first book voiced by a different narrator. Well done. I think I enjoy Jill's narration much more than the narrator of the first book.

We've picked up a few new characters here! We meet Calla's mom and she doesn't want Calla and Valcas going on this mission alone. She works a few things around and gets two others that are in court the same day and set to go on missions to find Lost people. We add Ivory and Ray to our team. I really enjoy their abilities and the way they interact with Calla. There is another, but you can meet that person when you get there. ;)

It's very neat to see the traveling world in this book. We get lots of details of different things with traveling. It did NOT feel like an info dump either. *Bonus* It is the story and it all comes out to help us understand the way of time and space travels. With all the great things we learn of the world, we get to see Calla fall in love. Calla doesn't realize it until she's gone and fallen. But she does. This is Calla and Valcas's story of falling in love all over again while they are looking for her father, and stuck in the Fire Falls.

This story is a YA Paranormal read and is a clean story for young readers to enjoy. There is no swearing and barely a kiss is present. I would suggest this story for many young readers. The story is a simple one, a mission to find Plaka while Calla and Valcas seem to be skating around each other while feelings grow. It held my attention as it feels character based here and the characters feel developed in the story and voice.

I went from not trusting Valcas to liking him in the first book. This book I fell in love with Valcas with Calla. And now I'm very upset with him. But that's the way things go in books. lol. This means the author wrote it right. I should have seen it coming though. However, I fell for the trap and was irritated with the character in the end.

Now I need the next book, due out later 2015, to see where and when the characters are and how they are coping.

"Insight Kindling" the second exciting adventure in "The Call To Search Everywhen" an intoxicating scify-fantasy series begins when Calla charged by the TSTA for changing the past is given a dangerous mission; to help Valcas Hall find her missing father Basileios Plaka. With two other talented travelers convicted of infractions against the Time and Space Travel Agency (TSTA) rules, Calla and Valcas set out only to be chased by the "Uproar" a sentient being of white light with a grudge against her father who's tracking his bloodline. As the danger escalates the team searches for a way to destroy the inhuman not only stumbling into a nest of tunnels behind Fire Falls, but a TSTA conspiracy to control traveler talents.

With a vivid imagination Chess Desalls creates a unique world with time travel and multiple dimensions where reality is interspersed with the surreal. Well-developed the story gives life not only to a fire that blazes on the outer layer of a falls, but a being of light that hunts travelers to devour their blood and talents. Innovative devices like the travel glasses begin to have expanded uses as does the TSTA watch that Calla wears that turns out to be an alarm. Cleverly the author builds on the foundation of the story giving insight into the past of her characters while continuing to build the mystery that begins with Calla's missing father and is expanded with the team's suspicions.

The action and pace heat up with every twist in the plot as plans go awry and the threat mounts. Yet with all the uncertainty and danger the team faces Ivory breaks the tension with her wit and sarcasm. In this plot the author explores themes of friendship, healing, trust and relationships. Yet it's the romance that adds another dimension to the adventure especially with the inclusion of Ray. Although Calla is drawn to Ray at first it's her remembrances of her time with an earlier version of Valcas that stirs her feelings especially when the real one wants to change and win her trust . As the romance ignites an unexpected betrayal at the end sparks a cliff-hanger that gives the reader pause and questions whether or not Calla and Valcas's love can survive.

The characters continues to infuse the series with excitement, passion and drama, making it unforgettable. Calla and Valcas are complex but sad as they seem to fail at building trust and a loving relationship. Strong-willed and wary Calla Winston is resourceful, fearless and insightful. Only a betrayal will shatter her trust and confidence forcing her to use her glasses to dull the pain. Jaded Valcas Hall seems broken and threatening, losing hope after his father's death. Although he finds healing and love with Calla he quickly destroys any hope for their future. I liked the clever humor and lively spirit of Ivory the certified craft operator and the brilliant mind of Benjamin Raymond (Ray) who's laid-back, open and friendly. Even Basileios Plaka who's bitter and guarded at first becomes protective, caring, sensitive and very intuitive.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Insight Kindling" a riveting page-turner from beginning to end and I can't wait to read the next chapter in Calla and Valcas's story.

Insight Kindling, The Call to Search Everywhen 2, Chess Desalls
Genre: Teens and YA, fantasy/paranormal.
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Some YA reads contain a story that appeals to all ages, the only difference from adult reads is that the plot is solid, but the text is easy to follow and this series is proving to be one of those. Like part one this episode is well written and intriguing, it caught and kept my attention right through, and was what so often appeals to me about YA, a great story and relaxing to read. I certainly want to know more...

Poor Calla, she faces charges against her for changing the past, even though she had no idea what she was doing, and didn’t go there voluntarily at first but was forced in to it. The part that affected Edgar was deliberate, but the thing that changed Valcas past wasn’t even her fault, except that she was there and shouldn’t have been, and he saw and fell in love with her. That caused him to write her name on a photo, and so remember her even though at the time she knew nothing about it. Usually everything is lost from peoples memories at the end of the day, so permanent changes that affect history are very severely punished by the TSTA.
She ends up on a dangerous mission to find her father, along with Valcas and two other travellers, Ray and Ivory. That gave an insight into different talents, as Ivory was a Chauffeur, and Ray had an incredible memory and could recall conversations, record scenes so that everything that happened he could voice, and even collect measurements and data....amazing Talent to have, but it caused him some horrendous trauma on these travels. Ivory was great, she seemed quite a cynic at first but as the group spent more time they became very supportive of each other. The romantic in me got its way, with Valcas trying to win Calla’s trust again, and of course the attraction between them is strong, she fell in love with the past version of him and now he seems to be getting closer to that more than the somewhat aggressive cynic he seemed in the last book. We learn too more about his actions and how they could be interpreted differently.
The four have an amazing adventure, learn how to work together and Calla finds out she has a new Talent...of course they’re in danger all the while from the being that’s been pursing Calla, and will kill her if it catches up. The danger they faced felt very real, and while they were learning more about each other I was learning more about this strange world and how its created. I’m still puzzled by parts of course – it’s so very different from most paranormal/fantasy reads but great fun. Its a fabulous escape from reality.

Stars: Five, a fun read. Not sure I’d reread, though I’m sure someone closer to the target market would read over and over.

*I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review*

To sum this book up in one word, it would be STELLAR! This is the second installment to “The Call to Search Everywhen” series and I quite enjoyed. There was more action and suspense. Plus we had new characters and they made this book more intriguing and fun to read. This book is a fast-paced, fun, intriguing, sci-fi read that will make readers beg for the last book.

This book starts off where “Travel Glasses” left off and wow, what a fast-paced adventure it was for our beloved characters! Calla is sent to the TSTA headquarters with Valcas. While there, she finally sees her mother but is not looking forward to standing in front of the judge for her infractions. From there, she, Valcas, and two new characters, Ivory and Ray set on a deadly assignment to find her father. Everyone presumes he is dead but Valcas believes he still lives and the only way to find him is with Calla.

While on this journey, readers get more in-depth with each of our characters. This time around, Valcas and Calla are well-rounded, complex characters and it was great to see the history and events that made our characters who they are now. Ivory and Ray are also fun, unique characters. Ivory is the sarcastic, smart, stubborn, strong character that faces her fears and will defend and stick up for others. I enjoyed her character a lot! I loved her parts and her sarcasm; hilarious! Ray is the smart, quiet, sweet character that will make readers go “awww.” He is such a sweetheart.
The world building is more complex and fascinating especially the Fire Falls! The scenes dealing with the Fire Falls were very well written and I enjoyed it very much. The detail and thought that went into this area of that world was so intriguing and fascinating. Kudos to you, Desalls! Well done!

The only downfall for this book is how it ended. There was too much teen angst between Calla and Valcas. The ending reminded me of how Edward broke up with Bella in “New Moon” and I did not like it one bit. Instead of running off and trying to get Lost just because Valcas broke up with her, Calla should have faced him and dealt with it. He’s just a guy; it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world.

Overall, it was a fun, fast read that will make readers beg for the last installment. I hope that things will get resolved. I’m still so excited! Gimme, gimme!

Insight Kindling picks up right where Travel Glasses ended, and if you haven’t already, I suggest you read Travel Glasses before starting the second book in the series.
I found myself liking Calla Winston a little better in this installment. She seems to have grown some. In the first book it seemed she was falling into or pulled into situations beyond her understanding, and when she asked questions, she got few or cryptic answers (not unlike Alice’s wanderings through Wonderland).
Though green was the predominant color on the cover of her freshman novel, I found myself thinking of the Emerald City when Calla was on trial at the TSTA in book two. The result of the trial also made me think of Oz, when four companions were sent out on a quest (no, it wasn’t for a broomstick).
As a fantasy writer, Desalls stirs memories of several other tales I’ve read or watched as movies. Besides Wonderland and Oz, I also feel a hint of The Princess Bride and The Never-ending Story as I read. It’s not that she directly borrows so much as nuances a similar flavor. Vanilla Ice Cream and Crème Brule are two different desserts, and you wouldn’t mistake one for the other, yet there is that lingering Vanilla that ties them in your mind. In that way, The Uproar reminds me of The Nothing (from Never-ending Story)… I think they are both a little bit strawberry.
Valcas is back, of course. I suppose the best I can say is that I don’t dislike him quite as much as I did in the first story. However, I’m still hoping Calla comes to her senses and drops him like a bad habit (or Desalls can pen a reason for them to be together). Two new characters round out the questing foursome: Ivory and Ray. I would have liked to see them utilized a bit more. From the introduction to Ivory, I pictured her as a kick-butt kinda gal reminiscent of the Animé cute-but-deadly ilk. Maybe more of that next time? Turns out all of the travelers have ‘special’ traveler powers, including Calla (but her parents are to blame). Speaking of parents… what was the initial attraction there? Perhaps the attractive forces in the worlds of these mysterious stories are just different.
Though a satisfying ending to this particular adventure, there are hints of more to come as the Call to Search Everywhen series continues.

This review and more on So Bookalicious

Insight Kindling starts off right where Travel Glasses left off. I always love it when authors do that, otherwise I just keep wondering what has happened in the time between. And it was also perfect for this series because so much was going on at the end of the first book.

The story of this series is original; I do not think I have ever read anything like this before. A lot of things that were a bit unclear in the first book become so much clearer now. The first book focused a lot on world building and Calla coming to terms with her new life. Now that she accepted all that was going on she could grow so much more as a character. I really liked the direction she was going into. She showed that she would take responsibility for her actions and that she would do what had to be done. But then by the end she made some poor decisions again. But what annoyed me the most was the mood swings she had towards Valcas. It seems to be a recurring aspect in many YA novels and I honestly do not know why. Insight Kindling was more focused on the romance between the characters than the previous books and I believe that the book would have been fine without it. There is so much going on that I feel like the romance aspect was not really necessary.

Valcas really grew on me during this book. I was not a big fan of him during the first novel but he finally showed his good side and I really appreciated that. And I enjoyed getting an insight in his POV. All the new characters that were introduced in this book were very likeable. And I am looking forward to see them again in the next book.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book; I really enjoy all the action that is mixed with the time travel aspect. This series is unique and original in its own way. If you are looking for a series about time travel then I would definitely recommend this series to you. Personally I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

A thought provoking, exciting trip through time and space

The second book in Chess Desalls' Call to Search Everywhen series, Insight Kindling is even better than the first. I loved it. Not only does Desalls expand on the time travel and the perception of time itself, Calla, the main character, grows immensely. I found her outspoken verbal repartee refreshing and delightful—we're never in doubt as to what her true feeling are about anything. It is also a book of deep inner discovery, of insight into ones own abilities and the courage it takes to follow one's given path.

Taking up where Travel Glasses leaves off, Valcas escorts Calla to answer for two serious travel violations, according to the TSTA (Time and Space Travel Agency). After dodging the deadly Uproars, enduring Valcas' irritating and pompous attitude, Calla faces the charges. It seems that in this world, the TSTA consider themselves infallible, so one is guilty until proven innocent. During her hearing, Calla discovers ominous and selfish motivations on Valcas' behalf as to why he rescued her initially. This adds a delicious dimension to the rest of the book and the development of their relationship.

Because she can't afford the outrageous fine, Calla chooses to join a mission to settle her debt to the TSTA. So, she and Valcas are off, joined by two other "time criminals," to find Callas' father. And the adventure begins, or shall we say continues. While exploring Desalls' clever worlds of Everywhere and Everywhen, prepare to experience an adventure sure to please. I couldn't put it down, and I can't praise this book highly enough. Desalls' characters, the worlds she builds and her quirky approach to time, make this book a must-read for the time traveling aficionado.

MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The author kindly provided me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review. This review might contain SPOILERS FOR THE PREVIOUS BOOK OF THE SERIES.

Insight Kindling is the second installment in the Call to Search Everywhen series, the first book being Travel Glasses. The series is about time travel and a normal young girl called Calla getting mixed up in events that can become terribly dangerous at times.

While the first book still had quite a bit world building to do and also had to focus on Calla's coming to terms with the changes happening in her life, the events in this book were in a much bigger picture, or so I felt. Calla has adjusted very well to what's going on. In this book, we also get to see a lot more of the TSTA, the authority in charge of seeing over time travellers and what they're doing. We even find a dystopian element about it, which is something I very much enjoyed. Even though I am not a fan of Valcas as a character, I enjoyed to get an insight into his POV.

The writing in this book was a lot more appealing to me than the writing in book one; it seems the author found her pace very well now.

The one thing that annoyed me a bit at times was the typical angst that can be found in a lot of YA novels, often due to the young age of the protagonists. Calla at times had mood swings towards Valcas that were annoying to me. Personally, I think this book could probably do very well without the romance, though after the epilogue I feel like there may be something very interesting coming in the next book about that.

Insight Kindling is the second installment of the 'The Call to Search Everywhen' series. I highly recommend you read the first story, Travel Glasses, first, for this book is a direct continuation of the first one.

The story is extremely original and unlike anything I've read: even more so than the first book. I would totally give the plot five stars, except for that my nerdy side, again, had some issues with regard to some scientific stuff that just didn't feel right. However, most of the things that I would've liked to be explained in the first installment, actually were explained in this book, which made me very happy!
Another thing that I didn't really like about this book was how some details from the first book were repeated all over again in this book. It didn't really bother me, but it was kinda annoying. However, if you've read the first book some time ago, these things might be refreshing for the mind.

The newly introduced characters are very likeable and I feel like I've grown to like the ones from the first book even more. For example, I like Calla even more because she is complicated, but not overly so. There is lots of adventure, more than in book one.

I found the book extremely easy to read, in fact I've read both books within two days. I think Chess' writing style is amazing because I could really get into the story without getting 'thrown out' sometimes because of bad writing.

I would recommend this book to everyone that loves science-fiction and plot twists. It also kinda reminds me of Doctor Who, so if you're a fan (which I am), you totally should read this book.
I really can't wait to read the third book!

I liked this book even more than the first book Travel Glasses. Almost right from the beginning you can see how much Calla is growing as a person. She’s realizing the consequence of her actions. Because she was having all of these realizations I felt much more of a connection to her. We also got to know Valcas better though I was still left with tons of questions about him. I’m still not entirely sure of his intentions. A lot of his behavior from the first book isn’t explained all that well. The new characters that make up the team for the dangerous mission Calla accepts are awesome. In many ways I like them more than either Calla or Valcas. The world building wasn’t as extensive in this part of the series but it was adequate. I admit I was yearning for a bit more actual time travel but I don’t necessarily think it would have fit with the story. The ending though, gosh, the ending. I very nearly threw my tablet across the room. I’m in very deep need to find out what’s happening next in this series.
This egalley was provided free from the publisher through Netgalley and Good Tales Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This in no way effected my opinion and I was compensated in no other manner.

The second installment in the series is as exciting as the first. New characters are introduced. I love Ivy and Ray. Each has their own unique talents and personalities. I can't wait for the next book. It is such an entertaining series. Love it.

"Fantastic second book in YA Time Travel series"
I loved this book. As many questions as it answers, it brings up more questions. new layers of the characters are revealed in this book. there are also new characters. they are all unique. (one character can observe and recall the smallest of details and reenact conversations he has heard- it is amazing) the journey is exciting, and is paced well.

it definitely is making me crave the third one. hurry up with the recording of the third book. I need to know what happens. I need to know the rest of the secrets Valcas is concealing.
The narrator brings this story to life. these two books are awesome. did I mention that I am looking forward to the third one? also awesome cover on this book as well.

Great book two in the series.......book three should be amazing.

Book 2 of the series is also a quick and gripping read, and like book 1, it is well written, intriguing and kept my attention right through to the last page.
This book picks up where the first book finished and once again I joined Calla on a wild and adventurous ride.

We learn more about the technologies, difficulties, and rules of time travel, and the unique special 'abilities' that each traveler has, and many questions left from book one are answered

The world building is just as wonderful and the new characters brought into the story are as fascinating and three-dimensional as the ones we met in book one.

I recommend that you read the first book, Travel Glasses, before reading Insight Kindling.

I won an eCopy of this book in a Facebook giveaway.

Insight Kindling took this series to a new level. I was impressed how engaging and how evolved the characters became. I couldn't believe that I actually like Valcas now. He seemed cunning and devious in Travel Glasses. Now that his motives are revealed you begin to see a new side to him. My favorite character will always be Calla. She is the perfect point of view for this series. She has evolved immensely since the first book. She continues to grow and teach everyone around her. I loved the addition of the new characters Plaka, Ivory, and Ray. Of all the new characters my favorite is Ivory because she is just so darn witty. She made me spit out my drink at one point. My favorite moment of the book was their arrival through the Fire Falls. I got feel the intensity of the scene. I loved the writing style and the flow of the story. I am anxiously looking forward to the next book in the series.

read the first one and loved it. HAD to read the second, and loved it even more! The author has a fantastic writing skill that not only keeps you enraptured but also sucks you into the storyline and the characters, leaving you no choice but to finish the book (I couldn't put it down). As with the first, I was disappointed when the book came to an end and even sadder to realise there wasn't another ready to read following this one (I have since found out the third one will be done and I await its arrival with eagerness)
The author has mentioned other books in the series which I will hunt down with delight. :).
So far this series and author have been brilliant and now added to my favourites. I recommend to anyone who wants to escape to another time, another world, and another mindset.

Insight Kindling is the second installment of Desalls' The Call to Search Everywhen series. The story picks up from when Calla is picked up by Valcas in the first book and is taken to the TSTA - the Time and Space Travel Agency. She is tried for her unauthorized use of time traveling and is found guilty. She is given two choices: pay a hefty fine or partake in a dangerous mission...one of which Valcas is already involved in. Naturally, she chooses the mission, as it is to find her father.

While on the mission, Calla discovers she has a rare travel talent. And she learns that there could be more behind her father's disappearance than everyone believed.

This book picks up where the first book lets off. It is a continuation of Calla's story. She gets a better understanding of what all the rules are and how complicated time travel can be.

The new characters work well together and brought more depth to the story. With everybody hiding secrets it makes it hard to know who to trust.

Calla finally thinks she is getting it all under control and finds herself right back at the beginning when it is all taken away from her again.

This story held my attention from beginning to end and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Insight Kindling, by Chess Desalls, took me back to the introduction to Twilight Zone, the dimension of Imagination. Travel through time and space, multiple universes must be cleverly constructed. The second book in her series has done exactly that. Characters who you want to know more about, and a world waiting for discovery drives the story. To get to the new dimension, you must read book 1, Travel Glasses. You'll go from book one to book two seamlessly. And you'll hear Rod Serling ringing in your head.

(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)

I read the first book in the series only recently and thought it was okay - good enough to try the second book, that's for sure.

The one thing this book did - and the one thing I really hate about trilogies - that really ticked me off...the lack of anything! No character development, no real plot development, no anything, really. Sure, there was a romance between Calla and Valcas but, really, how ridiculous was that? Poor, pouty Valcas - do women really fall for these Neanderthal types still?

This book felt like a place holder until the third book comes out - and that annoys me a lot.
