4 stars mostly for how the book is organized. Unfortunately most of the recipes weren't for me - the sections with chocolate and coffee were off limits and a lot of the recipes required bananas.
However, the way this book was created is why I'm giving it such a high rating even if I can't use all the recipes. I loved that the reasoning why each ingredient is used is included rather than just blindly throwing ingredients into a blender.
I have never encountered a book that brings me as much happiness as this one does! Mr. Nash (the author of this book) took the time to write out how the ingredients in these smoothie recipes can help me towards reaching my goals. I tend not to get enough nutrients throughout the day and I am left feeling exhausted by 3 pm. Yet, with every recipe in this book, I was intrigued to learn how certain ingredients can help boost my metabolism, help me gain energy, and provide me with the essential nutrients that I have been missing. For those who are looking to lose weight, I feel that understanding why you are putting certain ingredients in your food and their benefits is essential to understanding your overall nutrition. Therefore, Mr. Nash's book is great for anyone and everyone!
If you are a smoothie lover, or you have never tried one, you will like the recipes in this book. Even though I don't need to lose weight I am always searching for smoothie recipes, and these are flavourful, healthy, filling and unique. This book is easy to read, and the recipes are easily followed. The author explains why each ingredient is used in the individual recipes...the health benefits and why they will contribute to weight loss. He also gives good advice on a balanced nutritional weight loss regime...and the very important fact that smoothies are not to be used for a meal replacement for every meal...just one or two. Most diets fail, in my opinion, those of healthcare workers and scientists, because no one can continue a lifelong strict diet loss program. These smoothies can be used in a healthy diet as long as you feel they are necessary.
This book has a variety of smoothies to make. None of the ingredients sound strange, but I will confess I have never had flax or chia seeds. You may have most of the ingredients in your house.already! Smoothies for Weight Loss is a great adventure to begin.
I am beginning my weight loss journey and am looking for creative ways to eat healthy. The addition of why each ingredient was used is super helpful. I'm looking forward to trying more smoothies!
It was interesting reading and allowed me to get an idea of what was in each drink and what each ingredient was and why I was using it. I'm loading up my basket with what I'm going to need. Chia seeds, huh? I can always make cat grass with it!
I leaned about so many ingredients to use in smoothies. Many of the totally new to me. Good directions given. Explanation for using each ingredient encourages the reader to create new recipes.
There are quite a few healthy weight loss smoothies in this book that sound absolutely delicious and easy. My blog about best nutribullet blenders I can't wait to try some out.
This book is a no brainer. Explains every item in recipe and why you use it. Nutritional values are all there. DELICIOUS smoothies. Would recommend to everyone who just wants a good shake or someone looking to "drink" healthy.
I can’t wait to try this. I love smoothies, hopefully I can lose a little weight. More importantly find a healthy way to maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight. Thank you for these recipes.
I enjoyed most of the recipes. I don’t do dairy or sy so I subbed almond/coconut milk. I added extra fiber with benefited for healthy stomach. I lost about 20 lbs which helped me on my weight loss journey.
As I have learned about making smoothies, you must have a smoothies maker. Blenders don’t particularly help to mix and make a smoothie. They end up being chunky and have bits and pieces in them.
I love smoothies and I am always looking for new recipes. These were nice overall. I don't think I would try them all, but I will probably try at least half.
Quick read but I like how the ingredients are broken down with each recipe as to why that ingredient is beneficial. Has quite a few recipes for as short as it is as well.
Alot of great recipes. However I would avoid the soy milk. Effects your hormones. Love explanations of what each ingredient does for your weight loss journey.
This book explains why smoothies are used for weight loss and gives some very make-able recipes. Protein powder vs protein from nuts, seeds, etc was discussed. Every ingredient had an explanation for why it was in any given smoothie. All of the recipes had a pretty short list of mostly easily sourced ingredients (I don't have a good source for acai berries) and had clear, easy-to-follow preparation instructions.
While I liked that every ingredient was explained, I felt having a blurb with the benefits discussed could be consistent throughout the recipes. For example, the spiel of the benefits of bananas could just be written once and then copied over when bananas were used in another recipe so that the author wouldn't have to keep trying to find new ways explaining things. I also appreciated the explanations because it was information helpful to use when subbing one ingredient for another or when concocting my own recipes. Occasionally I wished for more info - something might be rich in vitamins and minerals and I'd want to know which ones specifically.
The smoothies are mostly fruit based, with some veggies sometimes thrown in. Nowadays I tend to like my smoothies with more veggies than are in most of these, but it's very easy to just add them to these recipes. These smoothies are quite delicious - at least the ones I tried like blueberry breakfast, cantaloupe craziness, the spicy mango, a bite of envy green, green paradise and celestial cinnamon. There's no table sugar added to these smoothies - honey or fruit or the sweetness in yogurt or nut milks are used instead. I loved that cinnamon, jalapeno and chili powder were included in some smoothies as they boost the metabolism and take smoothies to a higher level of deliciousness and satisfaction.
The writing is a little wordy at times - we don't need phrases like "which is why it is in the smoothie" and "and that is why it is in this smoothie" etc as often as the author uses them. To me, it's a phrase implied in the explanation of the benefits of the ingredients. This doesn't impede understanding. I'll definitely be adding some of the smoothies to my regular rotation as is and a few others I'll use but add some more veggies to them. Using these you won't feel deprived as you diet or as you use these to help you maintain your healthy weight. I received this at a free or discounted rate in exchange for my honest review.
This is one of the recipe book I have in my kitchen fairly providing me a lot of smoothie recipes that I need specially to assist me in my weight loss regimen. I've managed to create some of the recipes here in the book and they are delicious and of course I know they are nutritious but Id appreciate it more if the recipes included pictures and some detailed nutrition facts as well but nevertheless it is still a good recipe book very much for my perusal in making my own smoothies.
Some things I am sure to try, others leave me truly suspicious including a smoothie made with chopped cabbage and coffee. Hard to imagine if the writer truly "indulges" in the fashion, has included this as a joke, or is sadistic. Still, cocoa almond butter and berries sound like a nice change from all the green smoothies I've had lately.
