The Others are out there. Somewhere. And the Program wants the Deviant Dozen to find them.

As a member of the Dozen, Cleo is still learning to master her deviation and she’s not having much luck. With the ability to cause explosions with just a thought, losing control always results in fiery disaster, making Cleo feel like a monster. She vows to ignore the urge to use her deviation and reclaim her humanity. But when terrible things start to happen at the Academy and Cleo is blamed for actions and events she doesn’t remember, she fears that the monster is taking over and she is becoming the dangerous weapon the Program created her to be.

The one bright spot in Cleo’s life is Ozzy, the cocky Sophisticate with perfect aim who makes her heart race. But it seems whenever things start to heat up between them, Ozzy is sent away on another secret mission, and Cleo is left alone to ponder their relationship and deal with the aftermath of the accusations made against her.

As the evidence against Cleo becomes more compelling and her closest friends turn against her, she finds her own conviction waning as she wonders if she really is as innocent as she wants to believe. And Cleo isn’t the only one struggling. Ozzy has always defined himself by his perfect aim and superior deviant skills, but after failed missions and bad choices, he realizes he can no longer trust his skills—or himself.

Caught in a storm of shocking allegations and harsh punishments, will Cleo’s conviction finally break her?

The first thing Christine does when she's getting ready to read a book is to crack the spine in at least five places. She wholeheartedly believes there is no place as comfy as the pages of a well-worn book. She's addicted to buying books, reading books, and writing books. She even turned her dining room into a library—reading is more important than eating. She also has a weakness for adventure and inappropriate humor. Christine is from Forest Hill, Maryland where she lives with her husband, three kids, and her library of ugly spine books.

This is my book so of course I'm biased. In Conviction, there is a lot of action, plenty of romance, a mysterious new character, and unexpected plot twists.

Wow i can't believe this has come to an end. I would say "No, no, no" many times like the last review but, i'm too busy trying to contemplate whether i should cry or scream. I go with scream ;) You know i'm so tired of running around the room going out of breath each time i read a chapter. Seriously I'm not kidding about that. Ever gotten too excited? That's what happens. I guess i could be a bit exaggerating...
Anyway in this book i felt like Cleo grew a bit more mature and was a lot stronger though, i really hated how she reined in her powers but, honestly when she didn't hold it back that made up for it.

The messages Cleo and Ozzy sent each other at the beginning were so romantic and sweet. I couldn't help but, let a grin escape my face each time i read one. Seriously, Christine you just had to add that? I can tell you this was me for half the book:
grin.gif?
Okay, maybe that's a bit too creepy...
The other half was all because of pure action which was amazing. I smiled a lot of course but, i was awed and mystified the majority of it. In this book Quinnie was more calmed and controlled but, that doesn't mean she didn't do anything at the start. The other deviants were great but, Theo was the one that surprised me the most. He was caring and goodness was it funny when he got flustered. I think he will be staying with Cassie, i just have a feeling.
Over all it was all good and the connection between Cleo and Ozzy was still strong and the book is from BOTH points of views. Can you believe that? Yeah i know i was supposed to say it at the beginning of the review but, who wouldn't leave the best for later?? -Only kidding, a bit.
One thing i did not like was that Cleo didn't use her powers as much. But, That's why there's a third one right? I'm hoping in the third one she will get to train her powers and control and beat the bad baddies.
Okay so this is the moment iv'e been waiting for to bombard the author with questions.
How could the book end like this?
How?
How?
How?
And yeah that's it. ;)
Just so you know Cassie is now one of my favorite baddies (In a good way) if there's such a thing, that was a great end. ;)
*A very special thanks to Christine Manzari for giving me an opportunity to read this wonderful, spectacular book two. I loved it and you can't imagine how much i enjoyed it, thank you so much.*
P.S.Book three, i can't wait!

Review Christine Manzari "Conviction" second in the sophisticated series

AMAZING! I don't know how she does it?

We continue on the story of Cleo and her friends the deviant dozen. Cleo's love story with Ozzy has some turns and twists. There is sooo much happening in the book that it would be to much to write!
But I'm gonna try anyways;
Cleo is still refusing to use the abilities or more like afraid to use it, because of the monster within and afraid to hurt other people.. She later suffers from horrific accusations against her ( drama ) and her friends turn from her.

ROMANCE!! Uh yes here it comes! Cleo is a naughty girl! And how Ozzy just loves it! Their relationship takes turn to a much hotter side and it continues to grow. Even though they hit a huge bump on the road.

Again Christine is a geniune brilliant writer and her skilles has improved viciously to the more than good side ! She really did a knock out with this one! Had me all consumed in a reading bubble!

The story is something you can NEVER guess and you keep getting confused with each turn it takes.
Don't get me started on that ending (cliffhanger) !!!!! Now I definitely can't wait until the next book!

This one has romance, action, drama, loyalty, suspense and most of all, very well developed characters with super powers !!
As I stated in my review of Deviation; It's a book you should read, not read about!!

I read Christine's first book in this series, Deviation, and loved it. I was dying at the end, wanting to know more about this imaginative and well written story line. Now that I have read Conviction, I'm dying to read Book 3! I need more! Christine does an excellent job in this continuation of her series, with further developing the characteristics and relationships of her sometimes wicked, sometimes adorable cast of characters. Hands down, my favorite part of Conviction is being able to read from Ozzy's POV. Ozzy is one of my favorite book boyfriends and his relationship with Cleo had me hooked from the start. Christine Manzari has written an exciting and suspenseful second book in her series. I can't wait to see where she goes from here.

I was lucky enough to read this in the draft stages. It was honestly so good I can't wait til I get my final copy and can read it again. The ending is crazy, I can NOT wait for the next book to come out. Character development continues and you can't help but fall in love with them. Chemisty is sizzly and I really have that ' SHE BETTER FINISH THIS SERIES SOON' feeling because I'm so hooked I can't imagine waiting too long to get more.

I'm in love with this series - if you liked other dystopian series, you'll love this one. I put it up there with the Divergent series but with a better love story. I'm just annoyed I have to wait for the final book - so so good!

This book starts in Ozzy's point of view. I was confused at first, but then I realized it says "Ozzy" and "Cleo" at the beginning of the chapters.

So with Cleo and Ozzy in a semi-relationship, things appear to be going well. The Others have not made any moves since the rink. But Cleo still has to deal with Cassie in the hospital.

Cleo is still reluctant to use her abilities, being afraid of the monster lurking within her. But lately it's been harder and harder to control her abilities when a few weeks back, she could not summon them successfuly. But now strange things have been happening to Cleo. She has been accused for various acts that she did not do. And now she's determined to solve the mystery. but

Ozzy. His character is much more described as we now witness the story though his eyes as well. We see how deeo his thoughts and feelings are towards Cleo. They go much deeper than I expected them to be. He truly shows love. And I find that so cute!!! In Conviction, we also observe how Ozzy reacts to stress and failure. His guilt was true and it killed me how he blamed himself so much.

Now, to all you fangirls out there, I come bearing great news. SUPER STEAMY ROMANCE!!!!! Like wow! I was fanning myself while reading this and I was bright red. I like this new Cleo. I never thought she would be so naughty (and apparently, neither did she). Christine really upped her game in the romance department. If you thought Book 1 was steamy. Well, Book two is raging hot. Cleo really knows how to ignite me (pun intended).

But there is also Arabella. She is a very prominent character in Book 2. So much so, that she deserves to be called a main character rather than a supporting character. Arabella serves as the comic relief in this novel. She's funny, clever, spunky, and kooky.
"Would you quit whispering and flirting? The pheromones coming off you two i enough to make me gag," Arabella complained. "It's bad enough Theo's sitting here."
I laughed so hard when I read this. I have just become so attached to the characters. And I salute Christine. She really mastered the art of bringing these characters to life.

But it is not only Christine's amazing romance, character building, and nail-biting stories that make her one of my favorite authors now, it is the mechanics of the book as well. I appreciate a well written book. From the plotline, to the formatting, grammar, and spelling. In Book 1, I found one error in the whole book. And that is just amazing considering that Christine is a self-published author. But here in Convictions, I found NONE. That is commendable. Like WOW!!!! Great job Christine!!!

Overall. This is one of the best damn books I have ever read. It's got action, romance, drama, superpowered people. Who doesn't like that? Christine has become one of my favorite authors now. And I can't wait to get my hands on book 3.
Congratulations Christine. You've written yourself a damn good book.
FIVE STARS!!!

My Thoughts

So a few days ago, I posted my thoughts on Deviation and gave it a 5 star review. I loved it. Now I only go up to 5 stars on this blog, but gosh... I feel like I need another star to tell you guys how much I loved Conviction! Woah, it was THAT awesome.

This book was about 150 pages shorter than Deviation, so I read it in just a few hours, a few awesome hours! While some complained that book one was too long, I think book two was too short. There was way more story to be told! Ahh! In my review for book one I was upset that it ended with a cliffhanger. Conviction more than makes up for that with enough action to pack BOTH books! It was great. And we weren't left with a huge cliffhanger ending again!

Christine Manzari really knocked it out of the park with her sophomore novel, seriously. I will go ahead and say that this is another YA read, but it is MUCH more mature than the first novel. There is one scene in particular that definitely crossed over into NA territory. It was well written and was a huge plot twist, but it was slightly uncomfortable to read in an NA book about 17 year olds. Nothing to stop anyone from reading though, I just wanted to point that out in my recommendation here.

Like I just stated, this book was a little more mature. I liked it because we really got to witness firsthand the way these characters are growing. They have moved on from insecure children and have become stronger, more emotional, well rounded and all around kick-ass. This character evolution came with some amazing quotes, especially ones about our main characters Cleo and Ozzy. I particularly enjoyed this line from Cleo:"Outside I was like Persephone, dealing with death and destruction in an indiscriminate fiery hell, but inside... inside I was screaming for release and unable to fight or escape what I had become. I was trapped inside the beast."

The plot line was for this one was very rewarding. For those of us who wanted that little extra scene in book one, we were pleasantly rewarded! The new characters and the tension thick enough to slice butter, it was awesome. I really, really enjoyed this read! The setting was pretty cool as well, we actually got to see some "outside of the school" settings this time around in futuristic Baltimore and DC, it was awesome!

I am so anxious to read more about a few of the characters. The biggest fault with having such a huge cast of characters is that each character doesn't really get his or her own time to shine. Cassie's re-introduction took even more of the spotlight away, which I loved, but I am hoping to read more about the other Deviants in book three! I am anxiously awaiting for it!

All-in-all, like Deviation, I am granting Conviction a well-deserved 5-star review. A sophomore outing from a debut author with a bright future ahead of her! I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Mrs. Manzari! Conviction was near perfect and have me everything I was hoping for and more. Seriously worth the read if it sounds up your alley, at all!

I do adore finding a series of books that gets progressively better as the series goes along. This series does just that.

I couldn't put the book down, I had to know what was going to happen next. I was definitely not dissapointed. This book takes everything you thought you knew about Cleo and her friends and puts it to the test.

Cleo is finally reunited with her best friend and yet she doesn't get any breaks. A series of shady events causes mistrust between her and her fellow cadets but she has no clue what's happening. Her friendships and relationship will be put to the ultimate test by the Others. Who can she trust, especially when other people are wearing her friends faces?

The characters grew so much since the beginning of their journey in the first book, their friendship is tested in ways that left me wanting to either fling the book across the room or try and skip ahead pages. I was constantly taken for turns I never even saw coming. Even in the plot line that the first book started left me with certain thoughts about what would happen in this book and it totally took me by surprise when the story took a completely different path. Normally I can guess what's happening but not this time, I was on a roller coaster ride of the authors design and I didn't want to get off.

It's a little shorter then the first book but by no means is it lacking anything.

All I can say is you need to read it.

You will need to read the 3rd book when your done with this one

Also if you haven't read the first one yet you have no clue what your missing out on

*i was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This had in no way effected my option of the book. Everything written above is my own honest thoughts and has no connection with the author*

If you haven't read book one of the series this review will have spoilers! What a way to end things in the last book!

So by now we know that there are 12 deviants who were meant to be the programs best of the best with the most unique sets of skills. After rescuing Cassie you'd think things would calm down a bit for Cleo right? WRONG! If anything there is more crazy than ever and some of it is coming from Cleo herself!

As they work to discover more about their powers and find a way to take down the others, Cleo, Ozzy, and the rest of the deviants must learn to trust in each other especially in the heat of battle.

Cleo also starts to question her sanity as she begins to get accused of things she would never do. Each event is worse than the last until even her friends start to turn on her. Can she prove her innocence or will she be proven as insane as she's begun to feel?

Ozzy is meant to be the leader, but how can he lead those that don't want to follow and when he even questions himself and the program he has been forced to serve all his life? As the situation get more crazy and the hunt becomes frantic for the others he will have to learn who he can really trust and what is best for him and his team.

The action really ramps up in this one and it's a cluster to figure out what's really going on, who is really trust worthy, and if staying with the program is really the best thing for the deviants.

Loved all the action and the mystery surrounding some of the characters. And can't wait to see how it all ends!

I have a very horrible habit of becoming so enthralled with the first book of a series and thinking up a way that the story might go that I'm rarely happy with a sequel that I've had to wait any length of time for (even when I only have to wait until the next day for a bookstore to open). Though I wasn't entirely happy with this book for that very reason, I must say that the story was intriguing enough that I wanted to read it at every given opportunity. I think that there were some very obvious plot lines (they were just hinted at and guessed by the characters way too soon), but all in all I enjoyed this book immensely. Ozzy and Cleo are definitely one of my favorite book couples. And now I'm eagerly awaiting the next one, again :D

Oh my Ozzy...I'll admit it. He's my character-crush. There is so much yum about him, but this book allows us into his mind, his heart and everywhere in between to see what really makes him tick. Ever since the last page of Deviation, I've been waiting for this book and Manzari does not disappoint. Her characters are believable and loveable and the storyline is perfectly well-placed. One of my favorite YA authors.

Loved, loved, loved getting to know Ozzy in this book...yum!! I also loved seeing the relationship between Ozzy & Cleo evolve, as well as the friendships grow between Cleo & the other Deviants. Christine has done it again...beautifully describing scenes & characters & keeping you on the edge of your seat wanting more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this & can't wait for book 3!!

Yes please can I have some more! I didn't think it was possible, but this book was even harder to put down than the first one (Deviation). I fell more in love with the characters and the plot kept me guessing the entire time. Cleo's internal struggle and a series of unfortunate, unexplainable events kept me intrigued and wanting to know more. I can't wait for the next book!

I enjoyed this book as well as the first one, Deviation. The only reason I gave it a 4 is because I didn't like it centering on the sex. It showed later in the book why it was there but I wanted to read more about what else was going on. The main problem with this book is there is no 3rd book. I will definitely read it.

4.5. the first 3 chapters were a little slow for me but then the JUICE CAME IN. Omg Ozzy is amazing I love him at the main love interest. The way he protects Cleo has me SWOONING.

I enjoy the little bits of drama between all the characters but when it's time to fight, they all stand together as a unit. I enjoy this because some authors could have the drama interfere with the action scenes but not in these books. I love unity, safety, and love.

This series is so good and so underrated and I need more people to read this. It's YA and just so action / drama packed...

I had high expectations for this book. The first one was amazing. This book disappointed me a little bit.

Conviction started out dull, but it became interesting about ten chapters in. I almost stopped reading it. I'm glad I didn't. The storyline to me didn't really pick up until maybe halfway through the book.

I saw several things coming that I can't believe none of the characters did. 🤦 It's as if the author was trying to surprise the reader. It didn't work on me.

I was a little bummed this book was shorter than the first (hey, it’s good, what can I say?), but I’m not disappointed by it at all! Christine kept me on the edge of my seat questioning characters and having no idea what I thought of them through various parts of the book. I can’t wait to dig into the 3rd book!

This series perfectly fills the insatiable hole created by the Hunger Games. Although it's not literature (not that the Hunger Games were) these books are very entertaining and give me a self-destructive, on-the-run, rebellious couple to root for.
