Meet Bacteria is a perfect introduction for younger children to learn about bacteria. This is one book in the Mummy Nature series. Just a heads up this book follows the British English spelling.

Bielawski does an excellent job of gearing language and correlating drawings with the basic explanation of what bacteria is. This concept might be difficult for Preschoolers.

Science made fun!

#9 on The Gittle List 2014: Best Indie Children's Picture Books

In Meet Bacteria! Ms. Bielawski introduces children to the topic of bacteria. It is science made fun and interesting. Heck, I learned a thing or two. Meet Bacteria! is book one of the Mummy Nature Series. This is the kind of book that can spark a child’s curiosity and lead to a love of science and the natural world. We tend to separate imagination from science, but great discoveries require both.

(Disclosure: Ms. Bielawski entered "Meet Bacteria!" into The Gittle List: Top 10 Indie Children's Picture Books of 2014 contest. There was no entry fee and I was under no obligation to review it.)

"Meet Bacteria" by Rebecca Bielawski.
This book was wonderful. One of my favorite children's science books I have read.
The book is about bacteria, where they live, and how they multiply. It talks about how some bacteria like cold environments and others like salty water. The book's end talks about how "some bacteria make our belly hurt, and so after you use the bathroom and before you eat, remember to wash your hands." The book's illustrations were cute and funny; the little bacteria had faces. One of my favorite illustrations was a green tube-like bacteria sitting in a hot tub relaxing. They also have a page in the back with the different bacteria shapes and what they are called scientifically. Your little ones will love this book.

i remember in several science classes ...both in elementary school and middle school doing classes with different bacteria chats, i know at one time we used microscopes to zoom on in on those critters and view them up close. was that middle school?? that was so long ago. early 90's for me. i have now read 3 of Rebecca's reads. very fun. i love the illustrations. i enjoy the little girl in these reads. so creative, curious and fun!! check them out. at the time of this review, book "Bees Like Flowers" is FREE, check that out. these other 2 are on KU.

Meet Bacteria is a nice introduction for young students to learn about the tiny world of bacteria. It gives many places where they would be, so pretty much everywhere. The bacteria looked so cute to draw. There were some interesting things I found out as well (for example, bacteria can make yogurt). Overall, it’s a nice and educational book for kids to read about.

This book is a great introduction to scientific exploration and then to bacteria itself. I love that the protagonist is a young girl who is exploring the world around her. I think students will see themselves in her, and that along with the interesting, rhyming information about the different types of bacteria will really persuade kids to want to explore.

I do think that this is just an introduction though. Each bacteria is briefly mentioned along with a fun illustration. I would love to see this book be a jumping off point to an inquiry unit about bacteria.

Picture books serve a lot of different purposes with youngsters - fun first, creating a love of reading next, and time with loving adults. These would be reason enough to sit down and enjoy a book together. Adding a bit of a science learning topic is a real bonus, and this book is a really delightful intro to a new topic. All our little ones hear about "germs" but as they get a bit older they can learn that there are 'bad bacteria" like germs and "good bacteria" - which might be a surprise to their grownup readers! Great fun and food for future conversations.

Free on Kindle so I checked it out - would be a great way to introduce your small child to the wonderful world of bacteria, which is great for the budding scientific mind. Adorable illustration and guide to the bacteria shapes.

Would have given it five stars if not for a glaring usage error (to/too).
