Gypsy Hunted

Rate this book
Reluctant psychic Gypsy Shields—she prefers the term "intuition consultant"—finds herself in trouble when, on her way home from a blind date, she interrupts a kidnapping in progress. She attempts to intervene, and her heroics are repaid with a collision between the attacker's van and a brick wall. She awakens in the hospital, paralyzed on her left side and unable to speak. This also means she's unable to share her vital information as a witness. Fortunately, she is able to use her telepathic connection with her niece to throw a line out to a police detective she knows: Connor Reardon, her blind date.

Connor will do anything to protect Gypsy, and he listens to her claims of psychic power willingly, as he's concealing certain powers of his own. Nor are they all he's concealing. Gypsy senses a part of her new ally's mind is closed to her—what she cannot know is that Connor suspects the kidnapper is someone close to him, and the kidnapping victim holds secrets that will tear through Connor's department, putting careers and lives at risk. Including Gypsy, still in hospital and vulnerable as the attacker turns his sights on her once again.
Can Gypsy use her powers to track down the perpetrator and prevent her own murder?

“He had a feeling something was happening, a bad something”. “This was it, all or nothing”.

Thank you to the author for my copy. This was a funny little one. Lots of ‘stupid shit’ and ‘slime ball’ type references. This isn’t my genre so it was an interesting topic to read about. Gypsy is a psychic and it turns out that a couple of the ensemble cast are clever in this regard, too.

This was a quick and light hearted read that I did not take too seriously. A couple of inconsistencies, namely an alcoholic that hadn’t had a drink for quite some time was having a drink at the start of the book. A rabbit trap even made an appearance! Gypsy was happy in the end so that’s a good thing.

I almost forgot to mention how much I love this cover!

Gypsy Hunted is the first novel by Australian author, Andrea Drew, and is the first book in the Gypsy Medium series. After ten long months alone, Gypsy Shields meets a new man, Connor Reardon, at a restaurant dinner with friends. This Police detective seems like a nice guy and she wonders if possibly there could be something between them. At the end of the evening, her walk home is interrupted by the sensation that someone is in trouble. All her life, Gypsy has had telepathic powers, whether or not she wanted them, and she is unable to ignore a call for help: she enters a dark alley, tries to prevent an abduction and wakes up in hospital, half-paralysed and unable to speak.

As she recovers, she learns about the victim of the abduction, and is determined to see justice done and the offender apprehended. She hopes she can rely on Detective Constable Connor Reardon to do his job, but also involves her telepathic niece, Renee, and her somewhat estranged sister, Renee's mother Leah, in her scheme. But does Gypsy realise the danger that stalks her? Connor soon finds that he has a more personal involvement in the case than just his concern for the lovely Gypsy, and finds himself juggling duty with family loyalty.

Drew gives the reader a fast-paced thriller filled with suspense and intrigue, a bit of corruption, plenty of twists and turns, and a heart-thumping climax. Readers should be prepared for some violence and torture. Drew's characters are multi-faceted and believable, although there is, maybe, a slight excess of broken relationships and troubled pasts. Gypsy is an interesting and different individual of whom readers will want to see more and luckily the e-version also includes a preview of the second novel in the series, Gypsy Cradle.

The dialogue is generally natural and convincing. The descriptive prose is, perhaps, a little too replete with what seem like thesaurus-derived alternative verbs and occasionally superfluous adverbs and adjectives: characters quite often clomp, stomp, shuffle, saunter, murmur, or mutter, when they could walk, go, or say; not every verb or noun needs to be qualified; not every single appearance or minor character needs to be fully described. Sometimes these things distract from the action and make it feel like Drew is trying too hard. Nonetheless, this is an excellent debut novel and readers will look forward to the next book in the series and also the prequel, Gypsy Life.

This was a short, entertaining, easy read. The characters were likable and the story was good. Some of the time I was unsure about the facts though. Is that what actually happens with a "brain bleed"? And can ordinary detectives really arrange an around the clock police guard with just one phone call? And would any police officer seriously not inform his superiors at once if he thought a member of his family might have abducted another police officer? Still it all made for a good story which I read very quickly and did enjoy!

Not sure what was appropriate to wear to her first date since Mark walked out eight long months ago, Gypsy Shields finally made up her mind with a “that’ll do” thought running through her mind – she’d be late otherwise. But walking to the restaurant in the heels she had chosen made it seem like punishment. Leah, Gypsy’s sister had organised this “blind date” and Gypsy was not at all sure she wanted to go. But meeting Connor Reardon changed her mind – Connor was a detective with the local police force. He had his nephew Aaron there in the group of people as well; a sullen young man who obviously wasn’t happy to be in the company of his uncle.

Gypsy had a gift; she was a psychic but didn’t like to advertise it. She certainly didn’t make money from her ability, choosing to help people for free. After a surprisingly enjoyable evening, mostly chatting to the delectable Connor over their meal, she decided to leave. She refused the offers of a ride home, knowing she would enjoy the fresh air walking the short distance to her apartment. But as she made her way home, she entered an alleyway – the dark and horrible vibes she was getting drew her there – only to come across a terrible scene where she ended up being seriously injured herself.

Unable to speak, paralysed down one side, Gypsy was frustrated with her enforced stay in the hospital – she needed to find the perpetrator; she knew the details, she just couldn’t tell anyone. With Connor investigating as well as worrying about Gypsy, the police department was teetering on the edge. There were secrets that would endanger lives if brought to the surface – was Gypsy also in danger? What would she do? What would Connor do? The danger was moving closer…

An enjoyable debut by Aussie author Andrea Drew, Gypsy Hunted is filled with mystery, suspense and intrigue. Set in Melbourne it is easy to visualise many of the places – the fast pacing kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. I have no hesitation in recommending Gypsy Hunted.

With thanks to the author for my copy to read and review.

Gypsy Hunted by Andrea Drew

What a cracker of a debut novel! With a really unique storyline...
Andrea Drew has conjured up a real good cast of characters here ..... with a great plot!

Gypsy Shields' psychic senses are very highly tuned...or, as she prefers to call it, her intuition. In fact, it is her unique powers of intuition that save her life and help her with investigations into the kidnapping of a woman in a high profile position with the police force.
Gypsy was walking home alone after a surprisingly good night out on a blind date, (which she hadn't been looking forward to at all) and was now basking in the afterglow of what she sensed was a mutual attraction with the very handsome Connor Reardon, a police detective recently estranged from his wife.
Distracted by nice thoughts of the previous couple of hours spent in the company of her friends and...more interestingly...the handsome Connor, she is pulled up short when she hears sounds coming from a nearby laneway. Her intuition kicks in and gives out all the alarming signals that Gypsy has come to trust and depend on. It is on closer investigation that she bears witness to a kidnapping in progress and before she can call for help, she is seen by the perpetrator....
What follows is some pretty fascinating and page turning suspense as Gypsy uses her psychic abilities to conspire with others in a bid to catch the kidnapper...and maybe the handsome Connor, if, he is who he says he is??

The story is well paced with some gripping and (for me) sometimes laugh out loud moments,.

This was a great debut novel which I enjoyed immensely and I would definitely read more from Andrea Drew as I believe she has much to offer.
I have no hesitation in recommending this book and I will look forward to the promised next installment in this Gypsy series.

*I'm happy to say that punctuation problems in an earlier (kindle) version have been corrected in the latest and readers of earlier versions should not be put off, as this really is a good read.

This was an entertaining and suspenseful first novel. The main character Gypsy Shields has telepathic powers which land her in trouble when she is walking home from a night out and witnesses a woman being abducted and bundled into a van. Knocked down by the van as it screams away, Gypsy ends up in hospital but manages to send a telepathic message to her niece about what she saw to take to the handsome detective she met earlier that night. The kidnapper knows there is a witness and would do anything to harm her but Gypsy is a feisty and resourceful woman and a little bit of brain injury won't hold her back for long and she is soon hunting the hunter. Lots of fun. Will be interested to see how Gypsy's character develops through the next books in the series. 3.5★

Gypsy Shields is a psychic, named because of her grandmother who'd had the gift as well. She's conned into a matchmaking session and is set up with a police detective called Connor Reardon, with whom she has dinner with. Later, he leaves her his business card and leaves. After she pays for her dinner, she leaves and finds a crime happening. It's a woman being kidnapped, coincidentally a woman who works with Connor. Gypsy is then injured and wakes up in hospital. Despite the injuries, she still tries to help the investigation.

The main character, Gypsy is a pretty dull person, with conflicting personalities. That's mainly due to the way she's been written. The author sort of intends her to be like a cool person, having stayed out drinking into the earlier hours of the morning, having it off with many people. Yet, the author later changes their mind and makes a point that Gypsy hasn't had sex in a year. At one point, a character describes her as feisty but, apart from one joke, I didn't get why anyone would think that. She complains many times about the arguments with her sister that her sister apparently starts, but then she continually initiates the arguments. She complains about Mark many times, an ex with whom she'd broken up ten months ago. Her main problem is that, within the month of their break up, he was seeing someone else which she is obviously jealous of. It was ten months ago, get over it, Gypsy. Also, they had broken up so he's allowed to do what he wants. Gypsy treats other people kind of badly. She looks down on others, mentioning that she's smaller and better looking than others. Gypsy has a younger sister, Leah. The author makes comment many times that Leah is a lesser person than herself, noting that Gypsy is more pretty and successful. The worst thing about the whole situation is that she boasts her relationship with Renee, Leah's daughter, is so much more special. In fact, every scene between Leah and Renee, the author makes it look as if Leah is a terrible parent. Leah uses all sorts of bad language in front of the child, fighting with Renee's father and not understanding the situation. My main problem with this is she actually does seem to be a very good mother, it's just that the author writes her as if she's a terrible person. She works two jobs just to support herself and Renee. She tries to take steps to protect Renee from all the bad events that are going on. She makes reasonable choices to protect her daughter.

Though Renee sort of has antenna to Gypsy's gift, Renee seems completely useless. Firstly, the author overdoes it with this special relationship with Gypsy. It seems more creepy than special and kind of looks as if Gypsy is grooming her. She even goes to an extent to try and make her hate her mother, making it out as if Leah doesn't care about her. Also, Renee is somewhat spoiled by Gypsy. Not to mention, she's also demanding. In the book, she mentions that Gypsy owes her at least two movie visits and a shopping trip for all the effort she put in. When we first really get to know about Renee, we start with scenes of her in school. She looks into her desk and finds that a boy, David, had left her some sort of necklace. We go on to find out that David had stolen it from his sister just for Renee. She gave it back, but now it's in her desk. She calls him out on it in front of the entire class. Deliberately seeks to embarrass him. That's it. That's the entirety of that plot line. That is such a nasty thing for her to do. She has such a terrible personality. It only just really serves to make her look popular. The entire portion plays no real place in the overall book. Anyway, getting on with the actual story, she's on the way home and someone drives up, claiming that he knows Gypsy. It's a creep scare tactic, but the author doesn't bother explaining how this creep might know who Gypsy was, much less how he found out about Renee and enough to follow her from school. Later, we find that it's because he went online and found it from Gypsy's website. Yet, that still doesn't explain how he came to find Renee's school and that stuff.

Connor Reardon, the new boyfriend is pretty dull as well, also stuffed with over the top information. It's difficult to understand because it's so complex. When he was eighteen, he had an affair with his elder brother's wife. Nine months later, she gave birth to Christie. Both the brother and wife died, leaving Christie and the other child, Aaron to be adopted by Connor and Jill, his wife. Yet, because they couldn't have kids together, he and Jill broke up. He blames it more on the IVF than the fact that he worked twenty hours a day, he claims. Actually, he blames Jill for most of it and implies it's her fault that their marriage was ruined. The entire relationship between Gypsy and Connor doesn't work for me. Firstly, they're set up together by one of Gypsy's friends, which is a plot device I always hate. It's cliche because so many people use it, not to mention that it's odd to have two characters who didn't know each other before meet and have them hit it off so well. Also, later on she doesn't really have any friends, especially ones that appear in the plot. It's silly to introduce friends, never to mention them again. Next, is the events of the kidnapping. Soon enough, he comes to visit her in hospital. Despite her horrid condition, he looks at her, finding that he likes her even more and can't wait to talk to her more. It just seems like such a ridiculous plot device. He had only met her once before and now he's suddenly in love. I do believe in love at first sight, but nothing about their relationship seems genuine. Also while in the hospital, she uses her "telepathic radar" to reach out to him, but there's a closed off portion of his mind. She pledges to get his secrets. Yet, what about the missing woman? It's so selfish of her to try and satisfy her curiosity while there's a missing woman. Later on, the relationship continues further, but it's just useless. It's not a relationship I want to know more about. To me, they have no real chemistry. The emotions the author writes for them just feel so forced.

The writing is a bit odd in style. It's a bit over explanatory with details all through out the book. It just makes it looked like the author took all sorts over attributes to add to the book, but just stuffed them in at once. All of the char

As for the psychic elements, I don't think that the telepath portions were properly introduced. Kind of seems as if they were forced into the story. Firstly, Gypsy is the one who mentioned a telepathic ability. Yet, she mentions forcefully later on that she hates the term 'telepathy'. Kind of hypocritical to refer to yourself as a telepathic, but then complain when anyone else refers to you as one. The telepathic portions were stupid, I hate to be blunt, but the story could have gone well without them. Overall, they weren't necessary and only really served as a plot device to make Gypsy seem interesting. Though, that fell short. My big wonder is why she was named after the grandmother. Sure, the parents wanted to respect the grandmother, who apparently had 'the gift'. Yet, they parents couldn't be sure that their daughter would have the gift, especially at her birth when she had no opportunity to use it. It was only later that she herself found out that she had it. In the story, Leah doesn't have it. However, what if the gift had skipped Gypsy and Leah had it, if the roles were reversed? That would mean that the name is wasted on someone who doesn't even have the gift. As a plot device, it only creates more confusion than understanding.

I'm just going to stop the review here sort of and summarise my opinion. When I first read the blurb, I found that Gypsy Hunted is a book that I quite wanted to read and, wanted to like. It has a great premise; a telepathic woman who witnesses another woman being kidnapped and tries to help solve the case. Yet, the telepathic moments felt quite useless. If they were not included (if they were replaced by the use of telephones or just speaking to another), than the novel wouldn't be much different. The majority of characters were unlikeable, unrelateable and nasty people. The one person who did seem kind of likeable, Leah, was deliberately made to look nasty. Which is ridiculous because she was the only one with genuine motives for her own actions and had realistic ideas and expectations. The writing, plot and character development all need a lot of work. I can see the author being a brilliant writer in future, though it's going to need a lot of work. I received a copy free, curtesy of the author via the Firstreads program. Despite receiving a free copy, these are just my honest thoughts. I'm sorry I didn't like it, but it's just my opinion.

Having read such an interesting synopsis, I had to read this book. It's different to what I usually read but the mystery element to it is something that I very much enjoy!

I was so grateful to have received a copy of the beautiful paperback through the author and I couldn't wait to delve into it. The first 2 chapters were as gripping as one of the best novels I have read.

It caught my attention immediately and I had to keep going.

With Gypsy being a type of psychic, a secret that she wouldn't be so willing to share with all her family and closest friends, let alone a stranger. BUT with the uncertainly of even leaving the house to go out, she meets the ever charming and very handsome Connor.

For some reason very unknown to her, she spills her secret. She doesn't even falter at letting him know of her psychic powers. Connor does the next more natural thing to him - he listens. And he listens with open eyes, a mind of interest and a whole lot of care for this woman. Though lets not forget, he has secrets of his own too.

Enjoying their date, getting to know one another and everything in between, the night must finally end. As soon as Gypsy heads on home she is confronted by a straggling woman and a man who is the end result of anything but good fortune. Gypsy trying to kindly to help the woman ends up getting the shock of her life. An accident that forever changes how she wakes up tomorrow morning.

As much as I knew what would happen to Gypsy, I really wasn't expecting it to be of such shock. the accident and the events that followed from her realising what happened, were amazingly well done.

I loved reading what was going through her mind when she couldn't speak. She was determined and strong minded and she knew what she wanted, what she needed but was uncertain about what will happen to her. Whether she will heal properly. Or whether they will find this human and the girl that he took with her.

I also really liked Connor as a character. He was strong and smart but above all, cared deeply for Gypsy. His drive to find the kidnapper in what could only be described as a horrible incident that drove Gypsy to a point of forever changing her life, was above all else at the top of his mindset.

From them on, once we meet this very different but interesting characters, the story continues with it's many twists and turns. A true mystery but in my personal point of view, it lacked the attention that was clearly evident within the first few chapters.

I felt that parts of the 'mystery' were often a little predictable, just those moments were we read about the different characters reactions to certain events and questions about those events. If that wasn't there then I think maybe the mystery aspect in the different parts of the story would have been more frustrating to figure out but in a good way.

I also found the story to be dragging a little from the later middle towards the end. I wont say that it was boring because I really enjoyed being part or it. I liked that there were different characters with often very differing ideas and words to say about what could have happened etc. I really liked that.

It wasn't the best mystery I have read but I will be following the authors work - without a doubt. I was expecting an interesting read and with the ending, I definitely got more than that!

BUT from seeing as to how addictive the first couple of chapters were and how immediately invested I was in the 2 main characters, I was slightly disappointed that this did not continue throughout the story. It just did not feel like I was eager enough to flip the next page and find out what part of the mystery will be unveiled next.

HOWEVER, I did find the ending great, in being able to close off the first book in a way that makes me pick up the next book straight away. And I am glad to have it here because I want to know what happens next. Though, Gypsy's reaction was slightly different to what I was expecting, when even a little too shocked but it worked.

The ending worked and I loved it.

The writing was great, I couldn't find one fault in how talented Andrea Drew is. I couldn't believe that this was her debut novel. It was that well written.

I will definitely be reading the second one, at some point in time. I am not too eager to start but wanting to continue with a characters story can only mean one thing: It was a very good book!

If you are looking for a fun and dark mystery with a light element of humour and sexiness OR just a simple, interesting read, then definitely give this one a shot!

This has been on my kindle for a while- but I’m glad that I picked it up this week. Gypsy is psychic, although she isn’t overkeen on having the gift. After she’s involved in witnessing a crime she needs to reach out to her niece to try and help solve the mystery. It’s a real page turner and I’m glad to see that there are other books in the series to catch up on. It was a great, quick read.
She needs the mystery solved before she’s put in danger. Connor was her date on the night of the attack and he’s in charge of the investigation.
I will definitely look out for the follow on books.
With many thanks to Net Galley

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Usually I'm not big on reading adult-type books, as I'm very firmly planted in my little world of YA and very happy there. So when I started this book, I wasn't too sure what to expect. And in all honesty, I was pretty pleasantly surprised. It was engaging and entertaining and I read the whole thing from start to finish in one sitting.

Was it the best book I've ever read in my life? No, probably not. Did it have its problems? Yes, but they didn't make me hate it or want to stop reading. One main issue I had with the book was the fact that several of the "mysteries" weren't really all that mysterious. The characters had a habit of commenting quite a lot on other character's "weird behaviour recently" or how they seemed "not quite right" and that made it pretty easy to pick out who was doing what and where the bad guys were. I also found some of the relationships to be a little... clichéd? And don't even get me started on Gypsy in that last scene. I mean, slight overreaction possibly?

Overall a pretty solid book that was enjoyable and had me hooked from the first chapter. With that ending, I may be forced to continue on with this series to get some more Connor adventure and keep up with the characters.

I would have given this book less than 1 star, if possible. It was awful! I loved the plot and it could have been a very good story. This is only the second book I couldn't finish in my entire life. The character development was poor. I couldn't relate to the H or h. The author wrote in first and third person and at times I couldn't tell which character was in the action. The h had a brain bleed, was paralyzed on her left side and couldn't talk, yet, leveraged herself into a wheelchair, used parallel bars in rehab, mutters to a nurse, and asks to use a phone! The author did not do enough research on what happens with a brain bleed. There were massive inconsistencies. This book needed to be edited for inconsistencies, grammar, and the timeline. I really wanted to like this book because the plot was intriguing. I am just grateful I got the book for free on Bookbub. Not worth getting even if free!

A very lame read - Glad it was free

I honestly don’t know why I didn’t declare this book a DNF early on. I thought about it several times, but kept thinking it would get better. It did not. The characters were one dimensional and never felt the least bit realistic. The plot was quite predictable and cliché. I didn’t care for the writing style either. It felt choppy. Also, this book is in desperate need of an editor. Im just glad this was offered as a freebie. To say the least, it won't be a series I continue.

I loved, loved, LOVED this novel. From its Australian author to its Melbourne setting, this book had me utterly charmed.
The writing was exceptional for a debut novel & the book had a lovely flow to it. The characters, endearing in all their laid back Aussie charm, lent a air of authenticity. One of the few novels I've read this year that ensures I will read more in the series.

This book held a lot of promise and ended up falling flat. I got half way through it and decided my time was better spent doing something else. The characters lacked growth. The storyline was unbelievable. The villain was lame, and the writing lacked structure. Overall it was a big disappointment.

The two things I want to talk about the most is the unbelievable storyline and the writing. First of all, some of the facts around the injuries that a main character gets is wrong. When this character has a brain bleed all kinds of problems arise, but then the author contradicts herself when those problems no longer are convenient for her story. Then she switches back again. I wish the author had done more research.

There are other unbelievable parts, but the last one I would like to talk about is the fact that a detective did not immediately report information for a case. An officer was taken and this detective thinks he knows who did it. I mean, come on. His bloody job would be on the line. Not to mention that withholding that kind of information could get him into legal trouble. Just all kinds of not realistic in this story.

Now for the writing. Descriptions are good and useful when done at the right time and in moderation. This book broke both of those rules. One minute I am reading about this guys thoughts on a girl and the next I am in a confusing side story about his possible illegitimate child with his brother’s wife. These long, and often boring, descriptions came out of nowhere and then the author would jump right back to whatever she was saying before the long description.

Next, there were repeated actions. Here is an example:
“She threw herself into the closest chair, staring at the wall. The house was hushed and she wished desperately for Leah to get home from work early.
“She closed her eyes and fell into an armchair…”
*source Gypsy Hunted by Andrea Drew, page 64.

So she sat down twice without standing up in between. There are many other inconsistencies like this one.

To top it all off, the author had a difficult time staying in the same tense. She would jump from past to present and from first to third.

Overall, I think the author had a good idea, but she executed it poorly.

A thoroughly enjoyable and gripping read! While I was hoping for more romance, there was a good lot of thrill in amongst these pages and realistic characters. I didn't know where this book was going to lead me, and was frequently surprised. Yet every turn worked smoothly and kept me hooked - I stayed up late reading this one just to find out what would happen (even between chapters)! In terms of a mystery, this was very strong. My one qualm was that the attempts at romance, while I egged them on, didn't seem plausible. The characters became infatuated a lot more quickly than I would have expected, and while they connected well at times, their coming together seemed a bit forced. However, they made an entertaining duo! This story may not have been flawless, but it was highly enjoyable. I am keen to see what else Drew comes up with in the future!

(I was fortunate enough to receive this book free through Goodreads First Reads, and am in turn providing an honest review).

Don't Bother

I read other reviews and told myself it could not be that bad. Guess what it was worse. It sounds like the other reviewers at least finished the book - I could not even do that. If you can get this book free I say try it but don't pay for it.

Gypsy Hunted by Andrea Drew combines two of my favorite genres, mystery and supernatural, into one book. The author wrote a nice description of the story so I am not going to recap it other than to say Gypsy, the main character in the book, is psychic and she witnesses a kidnapping which is where the main plot starts. It grabbed my attention just as the cover of the book did depicting the empty park benches at night with the light illuminating the fact that there was no one anywhere to be seen.

The book looked and sounded promising but I did have some problems with some of the characters as the story switched between them. I really think this was because the narration of the book which was in first and third person narration. In several parts I found that who I thought was talking was not the character talking and although I eventually figured it out, the time I was 'lost' was annoying and did detract from the story.

Another problem I had is the inconsistencies with the events and the time line in the story. The story itself seems to have a time line but the events that take place within the story don't. For example, at the end of chapter five Conner tells Ian that he met a woman at a dinner on Saturday night and then on Monday a girl comes into the station saying her aunt was hurt, witness to a kidnapping. He visited the hospital (although not specified, it leads me to believe he went that same day, on Monday) and discovered it was Gypsy, the woman he met at the dinner. Then he further explains she couldn't talk and one side of her body is paralyzed. Which is fine and made perfect sense but by him describing he met her on Saturday evening and then Monday he found out someone who was a witness to a kidnapping was hurt (turns out to be Gypsy) leads me to believe we are only talking a few days ago because he didn't say "last Saturday" or "Two weeks ago on Saturday," he just said he met her on "Saturday." The same with the finding out on Monday someone witnessed a kidnapping. There was again no mention of it being "last Monday." In the back of my mind we are talking only a few days ago at most was Monday (not long enough to make it "last Saturday" he met her at the dinner so the most we can be talking is five days ago) and Gypsy can't talk and is paralyzed on one side of her body and shortly after this the chapter ends.

Chapter six starts off with Gypsy in her hospital room. Soon a woman comes into her room with a wheelchair to take her to rehabilitation and she was "muttering curses under her breath" and tells the woman, "Not now, I can't. I need to use the phone, find out what's happening, I'm the only witness." The way this is written in the book leads me to believe she said it but yet just a minute ago we learned she can't talk, so how is that possible? Then I thought, maybe she wrote it on her notes and handed it to the nurse but the book just left that part out. Then that didn't make sense because how can she mutter anything or "use the phone"? It also goes on to say she "leveraged" herself into the wheelchair. She is paralyzed on one side of her body so how can she just "leverage" herself anywhere being newly paralyzed? To top it off, she goes to rehabilitation and uses the walking bars. Interesting since she can't hold herself up on the bars with her arms since 'one side is paralyzed' which also means she isn't putting her weight on her foot/leg. And it just goes on how she willed her body to move and how she wished it was still numb so it wouldn't hurt so much. Maybe what I am not getting is that in five days she is able to regain some use of her limbs and has feeling coming back as pain? But that don't explain the ability of her to talk (or not) especially when on the way out someone tells her what a good job she had done and she confirms that she said nothing because she can't talk. Again, then why right before she went to this rehabilitation session was she able to mutter, say she didn't want to go now, and she wanted to use the phone? Maybe I am just over thinking it but it just doesn't add up to me. I find things like this very annoying and hard to get through which again, really disrupts the story and take away from the flow.

But even with the above being said, I don't want you to think this story is all bad and not worth reading. The plot is good, the action was good, and the mystery and physic abilities really kept me interested. A lot of it is memorable and had a few twists that I wasn't expecting. There was also the aspect of the characters in their personal lives that made me read on. I wanted to know if Gypsy and Conner ever get that cup of coffee they said they were going to meet again for. I have a feeling romance is in the air however the author does a great lead-in so I guess I really won't know that or even if this kidnapper acted alone or is there someone else on the list until I read the next book in the series, Gypsy Cradle.

Gypsy Hunted is a well written paranormal detective story by Andrea Drew. The author is well versed and has a pleasant writing style that leads you through the story of Gypsy at a nice pace. I never felt rushed nor did I feel the story dragged out. This is definitely one of those books you read most likely in one reading.

Gypsy is an extremely likable character. I find she actually grows in this story and discovers her not only her abilities better, but also who she is. Connor was a good match for this heroine and adds beautifully to the story. There are some other characters that add nicely to the mix.

I did enjoy this book and it is definitely worth reading.

I noticed some other reviews mentioned lots of editing was needed, I found that there were not a lot of errors, so I am guessing the book has been revised since those reviews were written.

Mousiey has a very unique book for you today. This one is called GYPSY HUNTED and it is written by ANDREA DREW. I rec'd a ARC of this wonderful book from the author in exchange for an honest opinion. This is mousieys very honest opinion of GYPSY HUNTED. I would like to thank the author for allowing me to read this very amazing and nail biter book!!
Ms Drew brought her characters to life with such dynamics and such visualization. You are able to actually see Gypsy , her niece-Renee , Aaron and the remainder of the characters-how they interact an how each character evolves in the story. As for the scenes in her story. They are truly well defined. The way they are described you think at times that you are right there seeing everything through there eyes.
Here is a nibble of the story from mousiey... Enjoy!!!
As our story opens we find Gypsy trying to figure out what to wear for the get the together that her sister Leah had invited her to. She finally decided on something and rushed out the door. Noting that it was extremely cold outside and thought to herself why did she even decide to go out . She has everything in her flat, tv, music, warmth, drinks, she works out of her home. So why leave?? Oh well its to late she rushes down the street. When she arrives at the meeting place -that when she realizes that she has been set up by her sister. It has been almost a yr since her breakup with the love of her life- and it only took him just a matter of weeks to get over her. After a few minutes and a drink with the dashing the detective Conner Reardon. They have a conversation and agree to meet again to have coffee. The one thing that I have not told you is that is Gypsy is a physic -you read that right. She can see things and reach out and touch other minds ( at the moment it is only Renee that can connect to her). On her way home from the book club meeting, she interrupts a kidnappings and attempts to stop it. Unable to do so, the kidnapper ends up putting Gypsy in the hospital and almost killing her./ when she comes to after surgery-unable to speak-she reaches out to Renees mind and tells her what happened. Begging her to go to police headquarters and speak only to Conner. Explain to him what has happen and what she saw. He will understand. Now this is where the story really starts to get to be a nail biter. So much goes on from here on out. That you really need to read this book for yourself. I am so looking forward to reading more about Gypsy!! Ms Drews next book in this series is Gypsy Baby and is due out March 2015. Man oh man I really have to read that one after reading this one!!! I recommend this book for everyone- especially those that love a good mystery!! As for mousieys rating- well the Mouse gives it a 35 out of 5 stars. And I really really really need more GYPSY!!!! NOW RUN AND GET YOUR COPY TODAY!!!

I read a good book recently, y'all. Let me tell you a little about it. Gypsy Hunted is a psychic mystery suspense/thriller, book one in the Gypsy Medium series. The action in the book is told from multiple points of view, including that of Gypsy's hunter. The reader knows his/her identity, so the case is only a whodunit for the police. (There is also a secondary mystery, a true whodunit, involving the confidential police reports taken by the first victim.) Gypsy's POV is told in first person; the others' in third person.

Here are just of few of the reasons I enjoyed reading Gypsy Hunted. I like Gypsy herself, because she is such a strong character, with a very strong willpower. By sheer determination and much practice, she recovers her speech ability and fine motor skills much sooner than the doctors had expected, within days of the accident, instead of it taking weeks as usual. Other favorite characters are Connor, blind date / detective in charge of the case, and Gypsy's niece Renee, a precocious 13-year-old who shares a psychic connection with her aunt. This connection proves to be crucial to the case.

I like how the relationship between Gypsy and her younger sister Leah changes during the novel. In the opening scene, as she is walking to the restaurant to meet her blind date, Gypsy reflects on the irony that one of her most favorite people in the world, her niece Renee, is the daughter of one of her least favorite people, Leah. As young children, the sisters were close - until Gypsy's puberty began. This closeness was torn asunder by Gypsy's hormonal bombardment, parental favoritism, hurt feelings, and misunderstandings by both sisters. An unexpected and quite positive result of Gypsy's accident is their reconciliation, following their first real heart-to-heart talk in many years.

I enjoyed reading Gypsy Hunted by Andrea Drew. I look forward to reading more about Gypsy - and, hopefully, Connor, Leah, and Renee - in Gypsy Cradle and Gypsy Curse.

Reluctant psychic Gypsy Shields (she prefers the term "intuition consultant") finds herself in trouble when, on her way home from a blind date, she interrupts a kidnapping in progress. Her heroic attempt to intervene is repaid with a collision between the attacker's van and a brick wall. She awakens in hospital, paralyzed on her left side and unable to speak. Unable to share vital information about the crime she witnessed. Fortunately, her telepathic connection with her niece helps her throw a line out, attracting the attention of a police detective: Connor Reardon, Gypsy's date the night of the attack.

Stepping in to protect Gypsy, Connor even listens to her claims of psychic power. She soon senses he's concealing certain powers of his own. Nor are they all he's concealing. A part of Gypsy's new ally's mind is closed to her”"what she cannot know is that Connor suspects the kidnapper is someone close to him, and the victim holds secrets that will tear through Connor's department, putting careers and lives at risk. Including Gypsy's, as she is left recovering in hospital and vulnerable as the attacker turns his sights on her once again. Can she use her powers to track down the perpetrator in time to prevent her own murder?

What a magnificent suspense! This author is a true master of story telling! I read this book all the way through in one sitting, it was just that good! I really had a hard time putting it down! Gypsy Shields and Connor are fantastic characters and are both extremely believable and realistic as is the story and plot. The back story and character development of each of the main characters in the book is extremely well done. The book flows at a nice, consistent pace and it didn't drag at all at any time in the story and I did not need to go back and re-read anything to understand it. The scene settings, descriptions of the characters themselves, action scenes, and dialogue was written so brilliantly that this reader had absolutely no trouble with "seeing" everything, that is just how good this author is with description and scene setting. The amount of conflict was perfect and there was sufficient time in between each climax in the book. The relationship between Gypsy and Connor moved at a realistic and believable pace. Overall, I highly recommend this book, it was absolutely amazing!

I am going to start off by saying that I struggled with this review. There was so much that I liked about the story, but I had some big issues with it as well. It left me conflicted as to a rating.

When we first meet Gypsy, she is on her way to dinner with some friends. She knows that she is being set up, and although she's not sure she is ready to start dating again, decides to go ahead. Her last relationship lasted several years and left her with some issues. The impression I got was that she had some OCD challenges, and certain things were hard for her to do or deal with. Based on the character later in the book, either I missed a turning point, or misunderstood her. Both of these Gypsys were interesting and read very well, they just didn't match up in my head.

My biggest issue is with the timeline. When Gypsy is run down and ends up in the hospital, things seem to speed up dramatically. I was left with the impression that she went from completely paralyzed on one side to walking, talking and kicking butt in a matter of a few days. It felt like there should have been a longer time frame here. A lot is happening with the story, multiple POVs are shown as we are guided through all the events that are happening concurrently and intersecting with each other. Don't get me wrong, these individual elements and pieces added together to make an interesting tale. It was just the one piece that kept throwing me out - her miraculous recovery with no real explanation.

So, although I have these issues, the story stayed with me and kept me thinking about it. And that has to count for something. Plus Gypsy and Connor really don't have that much face time together in the book. There is a lot of each of them thinking about the other person, so I am interested to see where their relationship will go in the next book. Warning, this is not an HEA book, their story will continue in Gypsy Cradle. For a first book in the series, it did the things it was supposed to: catch my interest, and set me up to want the next book. Mission accomplished: sounds like a 3 star read to me.
