Начинала ее дочитывать несколько раз, так что написать подробно не получится. Неплохое продолжение, но не дотянуло до первой части. Половину книги было очень скучно читать, потому что ничего не происходило. Дальше автор исправилась, да моментами и с такими жуткими деталями в экшне, что тошнить едва не начинало меня саму, не то что главную героиню.
Вообще, книга получилась нормальная, но конец...казалось бы, история закончена, и продолжение не планируется, насколько мне известно, но при этом автор оставляет явную возможность для следующей книги, но не обязательную. Я такие вещи не очень люблю, да и не вижу смысла продолжать эту серию, потому что в этой истории уже все сказано.
Но пусть вас не смущает то, сколько я читала вторую книгу. Я громче всех буду советовать почитать эту серию, если вы хоть чуточку любите фантастику =)

This was a nice follow-up to The Star Thief. Plenty of twists and turns. I liked who Pallas turned out to be. I thought the ending was fitting. It leaves an opening for another book with these characters and in this series.

Meh. One two skip a few, skimmed most of it and understood the plot, I mean how hard can it be? Wish there had been separate POVs for Viktis but whatever

I'd forgotten that this sequel was coming out until I saw it randomly listed on Amazon. I'd enjoyed the first book, and mentally compared it to Fortune's Pawn by Rachel Bach. But I was a little hesitant to read this sequel; with Fortune's Pawn's sequel, I found it too slow and never finished it and I worried that it would be the same here.
Luckily this book was fast-paced and had me quickly absorbed. My main worry was that the relationship between Finn and Renna would become tedious. Maybe Renna would shut Finn out to 'protect him' (and her) in the same infuriating way that the main character in Divergent did. (Renna had voiced her fear of being in a relationship.) But actually, I didn't have to worry. Their relationship remained fresh: very sexy and sweet when they were together (and Renna's feelings for Finn were tangible). And that certain event that happened in the later half was gut-wrenching and emotive. I loved it!
I loved who the bad guy turned out to be in this book; I didn't see it coming! And I loved how manipulative they turned out to be and how Renna had to really fight to prove herself.
I loved the secondary characters in this book. Viktis was even more of a loveable rogue and it's a shame really we didn't get to see more from his POV. I'd really love to see more of him and his particular love interest because I think they'd be just as flammable as Finn and Renna.

I really enjoyed The Star Thief, but was a little disappointed with this follow-up. Overall, I enjoyed the story, but the ending is what made me knock a star off of my review.
The first book established Renna as a strong lead who wasn't exclusively motivated by wanting to jump the romantic opposite. I can't say that this was true of Athena's Ashes. I got a little fed up with the constant Finn daydreaming before I was halfway through the book.
The ending felt a bit rushed, and thus the emotional story arc seemed false and incomplete. Is Renna smart and strong enough to see Finn's betrayal as the tactical move it was? Of course. However, the ability to rationalize does not mean she isn't still an emotional creature who would bear the wounds of that betrayal and be affected by it. Her relationship with Finn would be fundamentally changed, ESPECIALLY considering her history of trust issues. The fact that she jumped right back into bed with him as if it never happened felt abrupt and fake.
Overall, I DID enjoy the book, but the ending almost completely spoiled it for me. Regardless, I DO like this author's work, and would still be willing to buy any future novels, even in this series.

*REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS*
Whenever it comes to a series, there is nearly always that small piece of doubt niggling away at the back of one's mind: That the sequel cannot possibly outshine it's predecessor.
Sequels are always faced with that almost impossible challenge of exceeding the distinction of the original; simply because the first instalment is so spectacular that there is no need for further novels.
It's meant to 'stand-alone'.
In my reading experience, this has often been the case.
After the shocking cliffhanger at the end of 'The Star Thief' I was desperate to get my hands on the next instalment...but, of course, I had that little doubt in my mind about the sequel not being as good as the first...
...I'm thrilled to say that 'Athena's Ashes' was absolutely MAGNIFICENT!
The Star Thief was utterly dazzling...but Athena's Ashes went completely supernova!!!
The story was deeper and darker than the first, and every bit as thrilling and gripping as the first.
Renna Carrizal continued to be her awesome, badass, comedic self. I loved the strength of her character and how much she changed emotionally in this instalment. She was much more caring and selfless, and I love how she let her barriers down more and more throughout the story...particularly when it came to the courageous and handsome Captain Nick Finn.
Their relationship was one of the things I loved the most about this book. It was beautiful and new and sweet and exciting...and hot HOT HOT!!!! Their chemistry was sizzling and passionate, setting the pages alight!!!
Captain Nick Finn continues to be my favourite character! I fell completely in love with him for pretty much all the same reasons that Renna did! He's good and strong; loyal, brave and has his morals.
And gods he's magnificent!!! In the words of Renna: 'The man has the muscles of a god.' *major swoon*
I loved his humour and one-liners...and how truly sweet and almost vulnerable he could be, especially when it came to Renna.
I absolutely love Finn and Renna together! They are just perfect! <3 Finn + Renna FOREVER! <3
I also liked Finn's growing friendship with Viktis - a character who surprisingly grew on me a great deal more in this instalment, than in The Star Thief. His sense of humour was charming and entertaining, and he had some brilliant one-liners. I really loved their growing friendship in 'Fortune's Risk' and enjoyed seeing it develop further in 'Athena's Ashes'. Of course, his loyalty lies with Renna and I found it very sweet that Renna loved him as a brother.
Viktis' relationship with Lieutenant Keva was especially sweet...I loved them in 'Fortune's Risk' and liked that they remained a couple in 'Athena's Ashes' and I like the way they balance each other out.
I would liked them to have had more scenes together and for Grey to have developed their relationship further, but sadly not. Lieutenant Keva sadly wasn't as present in Athena's Ashes as she was in The Star Thief which was a real shame.
Another character who wasn't as present in this instalment as he was the first, was Myka. Little Myka!
I thought he was as adorable and amusing as he was in The Star Thief, I would have loved him to have more scenes too. But I liked that we still got to see him!
Athena's Ashes also introduced us to a couple of new characters, including: Alistair Blake and Commander Jayla. Both these characters I loved for different reasons.
Commander Jayla was courageous and I liked her strength and authority. Her character had a real presence - much like Finn.
Alistair Blake was very humorous and cute. I liked his brotherly friendship with Finn.
Grey's introduction of his character did worry me a little, initially, when it came to Renna however.
Thankfully, for Renna: Alistair Blake was no Finn. She's completely in love with Finn and remained faithful to him. Her flirtatious behaviour with other men, did bother me a little but I have come to accept that as part of her character and I wouldn't have her any other way. Besides, if it doesn't go beyond flirting and she remains loyal to Finn and completely in love with him, there's no harm done. So, the potential love triangle was safely dodged and for that I am SO relieved. Renna and Finn are an amazing couple! Naturally they have obstacles to overcome in their future, as they're both fairly different people, but a love triangle is completely unnecessary and I am extremely pleased that Jamie Grey didn't pursue that possibility.
Grey also introduces several other new characters, however to state their names would be to reveal too many crucial plot details for those who haven't yet read 'Athena's Ashes' and I don't want to put too many spoilers in this review.
Athena's Ashes was most definitely an emotional roller coaster. Filled with drama and excitement, sadness and horror, love and passion and plenty of action and adventure! With so many unexpected twists and turns, which made the story all the more thrilling.
I loved the ending! And was left gasping for more.
Was it the ending I was hoping for?
Honestly...not quite.
I have faith that if Grey does decide to go through with writing a third instalment that she will do a fantastic job.
I am very interested to see where she would take the story...As long as Finn and Renna remain together, that will fill me with happiness.
Of course, if she chooses not to continue the series, the ending is still very good (despite it not being fully wrapped up)...yes we are left with some questions begging for answers but perhaps this is Grey allowing us, as readers, to decide where the story goes from here and imagine our own ending to the series.
A fantastic read and one I shall definitely be reading again soon!!!

I read first and second book of this Star thief chronicles. I liked first one but the second one ahhh the graph completely downfallen.F first novel is about Renna a 23 year old lady from old earth 😂(I was so relieved she was not below 18) who is a famous; most wanted ; most abled star thief in whole galaxy .Oh yes This whole novel happened in much much future.(hehe) Renna get offered a job from so called government agency' Myth'. where she have to protect a kid Myka from unknown enemy. The enemy was so brutal that they destroyed whole planet just for that little boy.It is little bit high to imagine but I enjoyed it . While doing her job she met another myth officer Finn with whom she fall in love. There is little bit romance between them which was needed to release some tension😂. The first novel is really good where she is a hard core thief where she know when to bring emotions and when to do her work. She fought bravely with this unknown enemy and kept herself and her beloved alive till end. Just one thing it ended abruptly or with little fight. But overall it was a good read. first novel was success of plot n I enjoyed it n deserved 4 star.
But second novel was a chaos.Novel started very well till main villain revealed it's face.i can understand emotional turmoil Renna was facing. But instead of balancing them she got tangled in them and didn't overcome. It is not that I don't like emotions . In fact I ll say emotions are necessary. But implanted emotions spoil the situation. So many drama so many flooding emotions overtake the soul of story. At one time all those emotions become very irritating and make us angry. Even the plot of the story was not that great ..lots of loose ends. Renna become in second part an emotional bimbo than a hardcore thief. It felt like story dragged by author by bringing some twist. First betrayal of Finn n then wrapping that betrayal by saying it as an plan n most stupid was Renna accepted that all.The last fight was so dramatic so emotional that at one point I thought am I watching an overacted overdramatic daily soap. I just waited when it will all over. So overall second was overwritten And I am not going for third novel if it comes

Honestly, in this book Renna all the sudden became TSTL.
She thought nothing through the entire time and just kept going into traps which she knew were traps but did nothing to prepare beside amp herself up??? There was no character development in anyone

at the end when Renna and finn meet back up she wasn't seriously upset anymore??? Most of the book she was reasonably upset at him but he was like "I pretended you were a traitor for the best, but I realize now (because you were extremely harmed) that I was wrong" and Renna basically said "I love you and might have done the same thing" and just ignored everything else.

This rating is 2.5 stars rounded up. Athena's Ashes was more enjoyable than originally anticipated and this light-weight story is an easy read. At times I skimmed through the boring bits but, like with it's predecessor, there was enough action to keep me engaged.
It would have been good to see the characters develop as the story progressed. In some ways, they were almost caricatures and the ending was fairly predictable. Reading this would not be time well spent unless the goal is to chill out and escape reality for a few hours. Even then, there are probably better options.

This sequel reminded me a lot of a low budget television series, the kind where the writers honestly never expected the first season to get renewed, and now they have no idea what to do with a second season.
The plot just wasn't compelling, and there wasn't anything new that really developed. Same problems, same characters, same bullshit. Not sure if I will be picking up the third novel when it is released.

Waste of time
Out come is apparent from the beginning. Heroin has multiple chances to manage the problem and lets them slip away. Love relationships are beyond belief. Plus time does not seem to be relevant, this book probably spanned only a few days, yet people sustained multiple injuries, visited multiple planets in multiple systems. In short it is not believable on any level

Athena’s Ashes was an epic, action-packed sequel. As always, Jamie Grey has done an amazing job. The Star Thief Chronicles is the perfect example of an amazing world that feels realistic and a group of characters that feel real and relatable.
I adore Renna. I’ve adored Renna since the first book. Yes, she has her flaws – all characters do. But that’s what makes them feel real. She’s such a strong, brave character. She can hold her own and she doesn’t just sit around, letting people die to save her own skin or waiting to be saved. She has grown and changed in so many ways since The Star Thief – emotionally, mentally and physically. She went from working alone and wanting nothing to do with anyone, to having people in her life that she considered good friends, even family. In Athena’s Ashes, Renna takes a bit of a step back with all of this, though. But not for the reasons you’d think. Renna’s physical changes really start to take a toll on her, too, though she fights those changes with every ounce of willpower she has.
Finn.. Oh, Finn. I swooned HARD over Finn in The Star Thief. He’s swoony and adorable and amazing. As he is in the beginning of Athena’s Ashes. And then some things happen and things go down hill and… Well, I got VERY angry with him a few times. And I’m still kind of angry with him. I get why he did what he did. I understand. But I’m still SO mad at him… Grrrr, Finn!!
I really, really liked Dallas but I had a hard time trusting him. I was so nervous he was going to betray Renna, or that we were going to find out he was working with the bad guys. I also adored Blake. I kind of wanted him to be the third component of a love triangle – and I don’t usually WANT love triangles. I don’t mind them, but I don’t seek them out. But I really, really liked him. He was awesome and adorable and he made Finn soooooo jealous! Hehe. But then again… Viktis!!!! I said it in my review for The Star Thief and I’ll say it again: I really, really like Viktis and I’m not sure what this says about me…
I really liked Jayla, as well. Renna needs more girlfriends in her life – ones that don’t betray her. I kept hoping Jayla would be on her side, kept hoping that she wouldn’t turn out to be in league with Pallas. And…. Well, I’ll let you read the book to find out!
The whole Pallas storyline was… Shocking. Unexpected. Mind-blowing. Crazy. I just… There are no words for how surprised I was! Everything surrounding the Pallas storyline was hard-core, action-packed.. I just couldn’t believe what I was reading! And the thing is? Pallas is the scariest kind of villain because they believe what they’re doing is for the good of humanity and that what they’re doing is GOOD and RIGHT, that they are the good guy, not the bad guy. You can’t reason with a person who believes they are doing something for the greater good. And that makes them terrifying.
The story behind the book title becomes VERY obvious near the end of the book… And it was so, so sad! Like.. I almost cried, it was so upsetting! But it happened the way it was meant to and I’m so pleased with the ending. Everything was wrapped up nicely, leaving just enough open that there’s potential for a third book. And if there is? I really, really like the set-up for it!!
There were also some major twists and turns in the ending that I didn’t expect. For Renna, things came full circle. It really kept me on the edge of my seat! Especially the last 44% – I felt like my heart was in my throat the whole time. I got so angry and so scared on Renna’s behalf.
Overall, if you couldn’t tell already, I adored this book. I adore Jamie Grey. She will forever be on my “Auto-Buy Author” list. If you haven’t read her books, I highly recommend them! … So.. What are you waiting for…? Go buy them! Read them! Now, now! :)

I've always been a big fan of science fiction so trilogy by Jamie Grey was appealing since I heard about book one (that I loved) and this one that is book 2 hasn't disappointed me either! Btw, thanks a lot for the ARC Jamie!
After the cliffhanger of book 1, not a horrible one but a cliffhanger nonetheless, I was really looking forward to read this one! It starts pretty much where Star Thief left us, with Renna in the care (and custody) of MYTH, while Finn and the Athena's crew have gone on the run.
This book has all the awesome things of science fiction like the obvious one of ships and stellar traveling and adventures and high stakes and ethical dilemmas about science and progress and humanity.
Renna continues to be a great main character, continually growing and trying to find out what she really wants to do, surprising herself when she finds herself doing things she wouldn't have done some time back and even when there's romance and a love interest, she doesn't really lose the sigh of what must be done, even when her subconscious betrays her in a biiiig way (not telling you want I mean with that, but it surprised me and I had a ball with that!).
I was rather surprised when the villain was revealed, because somehow I was not expecting it to be who it really was, and I won't be saying anymore cause I don't want to spoil it for anyone else! It was quite nice to see how a villain could be hidden in plain sight that way, that's all I'm saying!
There's a lot of action in this book, betrayal, unexpected meetings, a race against time for more than one reason and there's also romance. This is a NA book after all, so expect mature situations, so to speak! Very well done and with a great relationship starting to build up. Tension & difficulties but thankfully no love triangle at all!
There was a great build up to the final confrontation with deception, pain and rising stakes and I couldn't keep turning the pages fast enough, hoping that I was right about something very spoilery (I was!) and then we got a fantastic resolution with an ending that is a cliffhanger again of sorts but not the horrible one that leaves you mad and feeling like throwing the book away, but the kind that makes you go "Oooooooooh!!!" and "gimme more, I want to know what happens next!"
A very very well deserving 4 to 4.5 stars book, I know that whatever Jamie writes next, I want to read it!

I received this book through the First Reads program. Before reading it, I read the first book, which I already owned. That book left me with some reservations about the heroine, but I'm glad I read it as the action just picks up after the first book with no review of what had happened.
In the previous book my concern with Renna was her bragging, which wasn't born up by her actions. Those mostly were luck and winging it. In this book she doesn't brag, but is still immature emotionally. I suppose that is somewhat realistic given her upbringing, but her success is still based on luck rather than planning. She doesn't seem to do any planning at all. So, I'm not sure why she's always surprised when the villain has out-thought her. I was surprised that she's so upset when her past career comes back to haunt her. After all, she's made a point of building a reputation for being bold, a thief, and working alone. I was also surprised at the amount of (surprise) video footage of her, since she should have been very aware of cameras given her profession.
The technology didn't fully work for me. I wasn't concerned about the changes due to her implant. But I didn't buy the explanations for her body's fighting or accepting it. Where she ends up at the end of the book didn't work for me either.
Overall though, the book was fast-paced and an entertaining read. I finished it more quickly than I anticipated, and had no trouble staying engaged with the storyline. While Renna spends a lot of time pining over Finn, she doesn't let it take over her thoughts, and she isn't maudlin about it. She is also fine with keeping her romancing to the appropriate time and place; which I appreciated.
If someone isn't too much of a stickler for the scientific explanations, and can overlook the fact that Renna doesn't really back up her skills with action, the book is a lot of fun. Just make sure you've read book 1 first.

Renna wakes up in a medical facility. She has had an implant placed in her brain. She is trying to destroy Pallas, the traitor within MYTH that she believes has done this to her. The implant gives her special mental abilities, such as the ability to see maps, and to communicate with other electronic systems. Renna is worried that she is turning into a cyborg. (Think Summer Glau in the Terminator TV series from a few years ago.) Dr Samil tries to give her injections to control the integration of the implant, while Pallas is Meanwhile, Renna misses the captain of the ship, Finn, that she was on before being brought to the hospital. She may be faling in love with him.
That's just from the beginning of the book. I won't give away too much because of spoilers, but I didn't want to put the book down. The plot moves fast, with a lot of twists and turns that are unexpected. The focus is on Renna, and her increasing abilities with the implant. I found shades of Terminator, Star Wars, and 2001: A Space Odyssey in this book. Pallas is also trying to construct a cyborg army based on the implant.
This is book 2 of the series. I didn't read book 1, but the first few chapters brought me up to speed on the important things. It can be easy to get lost in the details, but I was able, after a few pages, to catch up.
I liked how the author showed Renna's increasing power from the implants, and how she is able to use that power to get what she needs. Again, I won't say too much because of spoilers, but the integration isn't always smooth, and its use isn't always perfect. If it were, it would have ruined the plot.
This was an ARC, so there were some spelling errors, which I wrote off as typos. I assume they will be fixed in the final copy. When I review ARCs, I make allowances for this, and just review the content.
The ending is a little ambiguous. It ends, but it leaves open the possibility for a 3rd book in the series. I'm not sure if that's going to happen, but I think I would enjoy it if it did. All in all, a good book.

Why you should read this book, the short version:
Renna (the main character) is the master thief of the galaxy, she has a rogue brain implant that will either awesomely upgrade her brain or implode it (tough to say just now) and the hottest (and most capable) boyfriend in the galaxy. Rawr.
Also: She knows about a double agent trying to take down MYTH, a black-ops government operation, but MYTH has no clue. And they probably wouldn't believe her, since she's a criminal and all. So Finn, the ultra-hot boyfriend, is pretending not to know where she is or what she's doing. So along with all the badassery is just enough pining and romance to make you swoon.
Also: There are hot aliens.
The longer version: Jamie Grey is a master of keeping stakes high in a story - all aspects of the story - and amping them up even higher as the book goes on. She's particularly good at building the characters so intricately, yet so subtly, that you think you can predict how they will act, which path they will choose, and then throwing a wrench into everything you think you know about the characters and the world she's painted.
I loved how distinctive Renna and Finn's voices were in Athena's Ashes, and after the first book so full of Renna's fighting against making friends, I loved watching friendships form and deepen between her and all the other characters. Finn's growth was more professional than personal, but if you know him you know that the professional IS personal to him. Going against orders, no matter what reason, is a big upset for Finn, and that in itself was delightful to watch.
I think what stands out to me most about this book is the balance of power and vulnerability between what the characters are doing and what they are becoming. My favorite part is at the end, when (no spoilers!) a part of Renna's past that even she was convinced was far behind her comes back to haunt her, and threaten everything she's spent the last two books learning to put her trust in. Still, at the end, she comes out stronger for it.
It's a fast read, but it's one with depth and a carefully thought out, twisty-turny plot. My favorite yet from Jamie - I can't wait for more!

I don’t have this happen very often with books, but when I keep thinking back on this book, I feel like I read it in first person. It’s not actually written in first person… but I think that Renna is a character I was able to relate to so well, I was able to truly connect with her.
At first, this book seemed much more contained than Star Thief. That didn’t last for very long, though, and I was quickly drawn back into the world contained within this book.
I really found myself liking Viktis even more in this book… and I really disliked Finn. I did feel that Renna came across as a really strong character in this book. She was really easy to empathise with and the implant that she was dealing with was pretty intriguing, as well as very scary at certain points. I felt the author did a good job of showing the development of the different abilities that the changed implant was giving Renna.
I liked the nod to various bits of Greek mythology, from the title to the codenames. Being a big fan of Greek mythology, I really appreciated those uses.
I really appreciated the fact that the author made the bad guys more human, rather than just evil for the sake of being evil. Villains who believe they’re doing the right thing are always the most interesting kinds.
I felt that the world itself was a really intriguing one. Although I didn’t see nearly as many of the alien races that I would have liked to, it was definitely clear that there was a much bigger world outside of what was going on with Renna and her ‘guys’.
I would have really liked to see more of Viktis’ romance… actually, probably just more of him generally. In many ways, he makes me think of Han Solo from Star Wars… the rogue who isn’t technically one of the good guys, but still comes through anyway.
I found this book to be really well-written and if you like young adult science fiction books, this series is definitely one that’s worth reading. At some point in the future, I’d like to read the novella in this series and I also plan to at least check out more books by this author at some stage.

'Athena's Ashes' is the thrilling second installment in a New Adult science fiction/fantasy series that continues to follow lead character Renna Carrizal across the galaxy - from being hired by MYTH, to falling in love with Captain Finn, and stopping the traitor Pallas and his evil plans. The story is full of action, adventure, and romance - which will appeal to readers who enjoy various genres. I loved continuing to learn about the world that the author created - exploring it, learning about the history, and gaining more information about MYTH and their enemies. The use of detailed imagery and vivid descriptions made it feel realistic and I found it easy to immerse myself into the book. The characters were all well written with distinct personalities and flaw - especially our main character Renna. She's the perfect anti-hero - a bad-ass thief who's a known thief and criminal, who takes on a job for MYTH - which basically goes against all she's about. She's smart and determined - whether she's using it for bad or good. I loved watching her character develop and mature throughout the story. As for the romantic aspect, I enjoyed watching Renna and Captain Finn attempt to figure out their feelings for one another and where things stood between them. The plot was fast paced and I loved the details that were included - Pallas and his evil plans to create a robot army, MYTH, and the lives of the characters - they all made the story incredibly enjoyable and a quick read. I'm excited to see where the next book will take us and to find out what will happen. Overall, I thought this was a fantastic second book in what continues to be an awesome New Adult science fiction series. Definitely recommended for fans of science fiction as well as action, adventure, and fantasy.

In this latest Star Thief Chronicles story, Renna is working with MYTH to track down the missing Captain Finn and the Athena, all the while using all her talents to try to find the dangerous traitor Pallas, who is out to destroy MYTH and wants to use Renna to complete the master plan. Renna is assigned the ship Eris and a crew to assist her on her mission to search for the Athena, where she acquires some new allies in Commander Jayla and Lieutenant Blake, but since she’s not sure of the identity of the traitor or who else is working with them, her options for trusting anyone with what she knows are limited. We see Renna’s skills as a thief come into play again amidst plenty of action, with a few surprising twists along the way. The romance is sprinkled liberally through the story, but there are times when I wasn’t sure if things were going to work out for Renna or if she was going to end up broken hearted; in fact, I wasn’t even sure if she was going to make it through the adventure in one piece. Luckily Renna had plenty of determination, courage, and even some hidden talents to get her through, but of course there are more adventures to come. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next, I’ll be eagerly waiting for the next book.

I liked who was the Pallas. I was so sure that it was Dallas or keva, I don't know why but I am happy that they weren't. It was so exciting to make assumptions who Pallas was and I got all wrong for which I am very happy. I like how much value the author has given to the ship Athena, when it was destroyed it almost made me cry.
Renna is an inspiration, how she fights for what she love and how she almost sacrificed herself to protect her loved ones.
I don't have much to say about Finn, I liked his character. He was nice to Renna and everyone. He was loyal to myth. I like the twist of the betrayal thing between Finn and Renna. It gives a nice touch to the story.
Viktis was such a charm. He is again my favourite character, I loved him. How he ran with Renna, his character development was so good. I really wished that we get to see more of keva and viktis.
The reunion between Renna and her mother was so emotional, I really liked how her mother sacrificed herself to protect her daughter. It gives some kind of closure to their story, I think.
I just wish there was also a reunion between myka and Renna.

Athena's Ashes is a fabulous follow up to The Star Thief. Well written, imaginative, exciting, with fabulous world building and full of so many characters I love - I loved seeing more of Viktis - including several strong female characters.
Renna becomes a more rounded character in Athena's Ashes where we see more of her past, see her strength of character and the lengths she's willing to go to in order to protect her new family. Yep, Renna the loner is no more. She has a family, people who depend on her and even more shocking - they trust her. At least for awhile.
Nothing is easy for Renna. She's facing the repercussions of the implant, of Pallas, of the struggle against the person who she was before - the way she reacts and the choices she made - and the consequences when tenuous trust is broken.
It's an exciting roller coaster ride of a story and Athena's Ashes wraps up in a satisfying manner while teasing what's coming in book three without the dreaded cliffhanger.

My main problem with this is I don't like the love interest/hero. I love Renna she is a great heroine. The story is good, as is the action. I really enjoy Vik and would have been much happier if Renna had decided to dump Finn and hook up with him. He certainly treats her better. Finn often judges her for being a thief (even though he used to be just as bad) and then he places his flawed organisation and the mission before her. I don't care if he

I really enjoyed star thief but Athena's ashes was boring. I liked the first half but when she separated with Finn again over his betrayal. Things got weird. this whole Pallas business was improbable they were building things too fast and changing people way too quickly. i mean like Renna is right behind Pallas by like a day at the most how could these facilities get built that quick. it was out of control with the unrealistic parts of this book.
I understand it's a science fictional book but I enjoy books that really take the time to look at things with a realistic point of view. this author did not do this.
i liked Renna's character a lot in the first book. the adrenaline of stealing and breaking into safes. this book didn't have those parts.
i liked Blake. he would be an interesting side characters series or separate companion novel. i was finding him very interesting.
anyway. glad it's over and we know who Pallas is and all the loose ends were tied up.

OH WOW. Just finished. Where to start? Um. Just wow. So Athena's Ashes picks up where The Star Thief left off, and takes you on a ride to places you'd never expect, with conflicts you'd never expect, and left me with a love for a certain space pirate I never expected LOL. This was a fantastic sequel to the first book, and although I had some issues with Renna repeating the whole "used to be alone/now have to rely on others" thing a lot, overall, I very much enjoyed this book.
And that ending! The ending!
If you're looking for a great NA Sci-Fi read, and love space, tech, and pirates, this is it!

Renna is a badass motherfucker. I loved reading this sequel, and of course I tried to guess what would happen in the end. I never really could considering there were many twists and turns that made this good book. The ending pleased me, of course. I'd say read it. It's not one of those books that pulls you in and then drops you like a bad date. It's not overdramatic either, in my opinion. Action and romance and many starships later, Athena's Ashes was worth reading.

First, I would like to thank the author Jamie Grey for giving me this book for an honest review. The story-line is really good. The world building is nicely done. The characters are well developed and written. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
