In the icy darkness of the Arctic Ocean, a violent showdown between ruthless whale hunters and fervent environmentalists ends in explosive both ships sinking into the frigid abyss. Marooned on a desolate island, the survivors, now bitter enemies, are forced into an uneasy truce to withstand the merciless cold.

Enter Jane undercover agent, razor-sharp and unflinching, wielding her wit as deftly as her fists. As she rallies the fractured group, they stumble upon ancient Viking ruins and awaken something primal and terrifying.

Deep beneath the frozen ground, the Draugar stir. Undying Vikings walk the Earth again, controlled by hive-mind parasites connected by three sinister queens. Capable of subjugating and preserving all mammalian life, they see the world through ambitious eyes, spreading to any creature they can find—bears, whales, and even people.

With time slipping away and the body count climbing, Jane must unravel the mystery of these parasites—whose origins may lie beyond the stars—and confront an unimaginable horror that transcends death itself. She fights not just for survival, but to prevent an unspeakable menace from consuming the world.

The Sentinel:The Complete Jane Harper Series
Books 1-3
by Jeremy Robinson
This was never boring! Lots of action and excitement. Most of the story happened where it was very cold, on the water, on snow or on ice, or in the mountains.
Book one really set the tone, met some characters, and gave a basic idea of what was happening. 4/5 stars.
Book 2 took the danger and plot further which kept the excitement full blast! The reader meets new characters and reunites with some of the past ones. This is easily the best book of the three. 5/5 stars.
Book 3 wrapped up the book but had a mission to accomplish before it was over. I did find myself a bit bored at times with this book. Definitely worth the read but slow in places. 3/5 stars. I'm glad I read it. Good action adventure, sci-fi thriller.

Vikings, zombie whales, and one badass heroine - how can you go wrong? I loved the first two Jane Harper books and was thrilled when I found out book three was in the works. What made it even better was that all three books were being released as one book/audiobook. That is a ton of entertainment for a small price. I love how this series mixes horror with humor, and being with these characters for three books made them feel like family. The narration for the audiobook was excellent and Eva Kaminsky did a great job of capturing Jane's personality. Thank you Jeremy Robinson for giving us this final installment in this high octane series-it was well worth the wait!

An absolute thrill ride from beginning to end! Jane Harper is quite possibly one of my favourite female characters - her guys, humour and snark is nothing short of legendary. And I might just have a little crush on Willem. This entire trilogy is amazing and the audiobook version is incredible.

In my humble opinion, of course 💙

Follow the hellish adventures of Jane Harper as she battles an unexpected enemy. The Sentinel by Jeremy Robinson was grusomely amusing, as well as edge-of-your-seat excitement. A must-read.

Came for the Rollins vibes. Stayed for Jane’s sass and chaos.

Told ChatGPT I needed something like James Rollins’ Sigma Force. Got this gem instead—and wow, Jane Harper is the badass chaos gremlin I didn’t know I needed in my life. Smart, savage, and always ten steps ahead (or faking it really well), she drags you through world-ending mayhem with a smirk and a plan that mostly works. Robinson delivers nonstop action, brainy plot twists, and just enough emotional gut punches to remind you you’re human. 10/10 would follow Jane into another catastrophe.

I picked up The Sentinel trilogy, the complete Jane Harper arc, that did not start as one written on an alternate name Jeremy Bishop, expecting a tightly wound survival thriller; what I encountered instead was a shifting beast, one part icy isolation, one part shadowy conspiracy, one part mythic monster lore, and that mixture is both the strength and the weakness. In recent years I've been a big fan of Jeremy's books especially those that have come over the last decade.

At its best the trilogy delivers precisely what I like. The lead character, Jane, is credible and compelling. She does not feel invincible, she feels earned & sometimes over the top. Jeremy gives her moments of vulnerability, humour and stubborn grit. In the first instalment the survival thriller elements are vivid, the cold, the sea, the helplessness and then the pivot into something larger. That transition works because we have already invested in Jane and the small team around her. When the world expands in book two and book three the stakes feel legitimately raised.

Jeremy is very good at staging action. The chase sequences, the hidden facilities, the turn of the mythic in the midst of the everyday, all land with a satisfying thrum. The writing moves, straightforward, unpretentious, with enough character detail to keep me grounded amid the explosions. And when the trilogy uses found family themes among survivors and the uncanny rises behind the scenes, it hits a good emotional note.

On the flip side, the trilogy’s ambition sometimes works against it. After the first book, which is meant to be tight and focused, the second book starts to meander. It attempts detours, introduces subplots that tug attention away, and the pacing wobbles. By the third book the scale has swollen so much that I found myself missing the intimacy of book one. The monster mythology is fun but when villains become more cartoonish and events pile up, the emotional core loses a little clarity. There is something to be said for “less is more” and in this case I wished for more breathing room for Jane’s internal processing rather than constant progression of threat.

In the way the tone is consistently decent. Robinson does not indulge in florid prose; he keeps things lean, which helps when you are reading a page turner. The dialogue is crisp, the chapters shortish, momentum maintained. Yet I felt the final instalment could have benefited from one extra quiet scene, one moment of reflection to let the journey land. Without that pause the finale hurtles at full speed and leaves a few emotional threads dangling.

If you enjoy thrillers that start small and end big, with science fiction monster hints, and you like a heroine you can mostly root for, this trilogy will give you a satisfying ride. If you prefer tighter focus, fewer plot detours and a maintained tone of grounded suspense, then you will spot where this trilogy stretches itself thin.

In sum, The Sentinel trilogy is a solid three and a half stars. It has standout moments, memorable set pieces and a lead worth following. It does not always maintain the intimacy and precision of its opening, but it delivers enough thrills and heart to make it worth your time.

I ended up enjoying this book but man, it could have been condensed into a lot shorter story, in my humble opinion. I was listening to it, and it was 27 hours. It did end up with a novel idea, but I thought of just not finishing it quite a bit. But if I never hear about "the Colonel" again, I won't be sorry.

I have 5 hours left to listen to of the 3rd book and I'm having an increasingly harder time due to how much I can't stand Jane. She's super tiny, beyond formidable, and just one touch bad ass bitch...we know, we know, WE KNOW! We know she's, "Jane F'ing Harper" and that her father is "The Colonel"! Her sarcasm is way over the top ridiculous. The way she talks about herself is so annoying. Maybe if it was in 3rd person it would be less grating. I almost wish she wouldn't make it out of one of these certain death situations but you know she's going to because it's in the 1st person! I'm going to try to finish listening to the 3rd book and if something changes and I suddenly decide Jane isn't the most annoying heroine ever, I'll update this but I think it's safe to say don't hold your breath.
Update: I couldn't do it - with 1 hour 43 minutes left, I up and abandoned it! Not only did it continue with all the Jane crap, the author threw in more and more poo and teenage boy humor which was so stupid and out of place. Now I'm giving it a 1.

I generally prefer some semblance of reality in characters' behavior even in SciFi fiction. I found the plot and most characters pretty solid. However, I found the lead, Jane Harper, character's behavior over the top with sarcasm, snarky comments and humor coming at ridiculously crucial and supposedly terrifying moments for the character. I thought Jane could have been portrayed as a much more believable, strong and believable woman. It was just the strength of the plot that pulled this up to a 3 star in my mind.

Wasn't sure exactly what this was about when i got it but it seemed worth a try. I got hooked from beginning with such great characters , Jane Harpers attitude gets uou through. otherwise i probably would have stopped as zombies aren't my thing. It has quite a few gross parts, more in book 3 so be prepared.
Overall fantastic series, awesome storyline, lots of sarcastic humor and of course a bit of romance.

Book 1:
Oh, shit! What an amazing adventure. Jane was such a cool character. I liked how, while she was intelligent and relied on what her father taught her to guide the group and be a good leader, she still displayed fear and uncertainty, which made her very relatable. Yes, she wanted to survive, but she was still scared, horrified at times, and felt sad when others would be in pain. Her quick connection to Jenny was amazing. I was kinda bump not everyone survived. My favorite character was Willem, the Viking! He was such a strong and reliable character, while Chase was geeky and a bit creepy at times when it came to Jane, Willem was flirty yet serious, and so strong. The fact that he and his dad survived made me so happy, especially because Jane saw her own father in Jakob, and this, I believe, made her firmer in her desire to save them. Like this would compensate for the fact that she missed her father’s funeral. Kind of redeeming herself for letting her father ‘down’ though saving Jakob. Overall, I really enjoyed the characters and the action. The gore was GORE! I could imagine everything through the descriptions, which, argh, is not the best idea to read before going to bed. There were times when I was screaming on the inside and scared for these characters, my god, what a rollercoaster.

Book 2:
As I continue reading this adventure, I wonder what is the point of introducing other characters when they will be killed? The characters here were easier to like than in book one. Nate, young and naive. Malik, strong and wonderful. Steven was sassy, and he didn’t deserve to die that way. The other two, Talbot and Klein, smart and badass. And then the Viking family: Helena, Willem, and Jakob, who are once again amazing. Jane, as always, was a badass. The plot of all the missing ships, the whales attacking, shows how the parasites are so smart. Every page was action and adventure. We see more of Jane and Willem, who we discover parted ways when they were released from the hospital. You can totally see their attraction. Jakob is being so sneaky and calling Jane “daughter-in-law”. The way Jane went to say goodbye to him. Why does the author enjoy killing everyone in this book? Why the characters when at the end only three survived? I don’t know how I feel about going into the book there. The author makes us enjoy and like the characters, and then Bam! they all die horribly. Not cool, man. Tho I did see cool when Jane is telling one of the Queens she will get rid of every single one of them. She’s such a badass. Off to book three now. To suffer when the author kills everyone.

Book 3:
Surprise, surprise, only two people die in this one! I was shocked! Usually, only three people survive at the end, so to see six did here was amazing. Tho I was sad Dove and Cole didn’t make it, they were good people. Overall, this book was much shorter than the other two. The gory here, my lord, was horrible. The scene with the people half-alive hanging and just asking for their own deaths was horrible. The climax felt rushed and a bit on the ‘let's leave it to the aliens to defeat the aliens’ which was weird, as Jane was considered the final boss during the two previous books and the Queens were so focused on getting her. This book was a bit … underwhelming. I don’t know, I wish it had taken a different course; however, I do see what the author was going for. This was mainly a fight between aliens who crashed on Earth. Overall, I wanted this to be longer. Once the Queen was dead, what happened on the island? How did people react? What was the aftermath? Did those hanged and left half alive survive, like at least one of them? Jane talks about how people fought, but I wanted to see, not be told so. I wanted to know how people on Earth reacted to the aliens, what type of farewell those who fought and died received, whether bodies were recovered for a burial, and how their families reacted. Like I wanted MOREE. I also wanted more of Jane and Willem. Overall, the last pages were very meh. Jane is getting a book deal, trying to make it a trilogy, and having a man write the books… a bit on the nose?

These books took me on a roller coaster of emotions. I look forward to rereading them.

Man, what a ride!!!

Let me just say, that I adore Jeremy Robinson books. They are always a good time. I mean, 3 chapters in and we are already deep into the action, and ships are going down in the Arctic! This is a complete trilogy in one book, which is fantastic. I also love completed series. I was enamored with Jane from her first throw of rancid butter. The main characters have a great rapport and the villians are atrocious. The insertion of certain characters that seem super familiar to me and any other members of the tribe made me giggle every time they were mentioned. I am so glad I waited to read this completed version. It was a wild Viking ride, full of sea battles, alien poop and lots of gross mishaps and psychological warfare. I hope there's a new merch launch for Jane Harper, as I absolutely need it in my life. If you like horror comedy, read this. You will not be disappointed!

I would say this is the worst book I've ever actually read to completion, but since I'm not sure the individual "books" in this "trilogy" are actually available individually, I have to admit I put it down 2/3 of the way through. And in fact, I may subject myself to the final third eventually.

To be fair, I can absolutely see why horror fans, especially of B movie style horror might love this. I came into it expecting more modern dark fantasy, not outright camp horror, and that might not have been fair. The dialogie is laughable stupid, the characters are stupid, the main character is a Mary Sue disguised as a pintsize anti-hero badass. The plot is absolutely riddled with more holes than a blue whale used for AK-47 target practice. But there is plenty of zombie carnage and the action scenes are often fun.

I don't like zombies or scary movies and if I had to watch a movie or show about that, well I wouldn't. BUT....
The amount of humour and constant thrills and turns in this novel (3 books in 1) makes it much more than entertaining.
The character of Jane Harper is wonderfully constructed. We all need a heroine like her. The rest of the 'team' also are brilliantly created, with great backgrounds, all resounding in a very entertaining crew.
Yes, I will recommend it to others, after also warning about the zombies and stuff. Not all us old cranky ladies can handle it.

Spoilers

Starts slow but picks up with some gripping and tense moments. However, the characters feel cheesy and predictable, and the antagonists (the virus) alternate between overly competent and strangely weak, which undermines the tension. While the premise is interesting and somewhat different, the execution felt uneven, making the book more of a slog to finish than a truly engaging read. Was also a bit longer than it needed to be given the content. Overall, just “OK,” though the series might be worth a second try.

Freaking Zombies?

I started this trilogy as it was by my favorite author long before I knew it was him. Originally written under a pseudonym I had no idea that it was written by Jeremy Robinson. Very quickly I recognized his writing style mixing pop culture with humor all the while putting together a gripping novel. Had a lot of fun with these books. Highly recommend taking the time to enjoy this work.

A flyer that landed

Robinson is hit-or-miss with me, but I keep coming back every so often because, well, the dude writes a lot of novels and I frequently find myself in a book hole.

The Sentinel is a big hit—especially the first two. The third book jumps the shark a bit, but at least those sharks have freaking laser beams attached to their heads.

Viking zombies. Who would have thought it would work? Glad this flyer landed. Thoroughly enjoyed.

The Jane Harper Trilogy has to be my favorite work by Jeremy Robinson to date. Norse Mythology. Zombies (kinda). Action. Gross stuff. His signature humor. Everything you'd expect if you've been reading his books for a while, and a lot more. Read it. Listen to it. Ingest it however you prefer, just don't miss it.

Finished the first book in this series about…zombie vampire Vikings, ha! There were definitely times when I was rolling my eyes, but for the most part this was actually pretty fun! I’ve started the second book, but am feeling the need to retreat to nonfiction for a bit. Will come back to this later. Probably. If I don’t forget…

So good! So worth it! And they even address my questions at the very end on why the third novel is so difficult to find. I’m extremely grateful that Jane Harper was brought back to life for #3 after the series licensing issues. Each novel was better than the last and now I feel compelled to pick up some of this authors other series, these books have given me life.

DNF. Was able to get through one book, but it was such a slog to get through. The characters are all annoying, especially the main one. Jokes are not funny anymore. Ending is quick and basic, and it takes forever to get anywhere. I would rather bang my head against the wall than try to get through the remaining books.

Interesting premise

I love a good zombie story, and while this trilogy had some good elements , I just really disliked the main character. By the third installment, the story had become very repetitive in both plot and dialogue. I found Jane too abrasive, rude, and annoying.
