OH WHAT FUN THIS WAS TO READ OVER THE WEEKEND!
The good thing about box sets is that no story is too long so for me, which weekends are very hectic, they are perfect to read each story in between my 'hectcism' time LOL

Scoundrel Ever After by Darcy Burke: I've decided not to read this novella because it the 6th and final story in a series and I fell it would not read well because of this. However, I have read many great reviews of this series, so I WILL be reading the entire series in the near future!

Lady of Pleasure by Delilah Marvelle: The story was funny yet tragic. Both sides very well done. This book is an emotional roller coaster you will not want to stop. Awesome page turned which hooked me on to a new author!

Sonata for a Scoundrel by Anthea Lawson: Great story with brilliant characters and a good bit of sex to boot :) That about wraps up a good romance story, if you ask me! LOL

To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield by Bronwen Evans: Fast paced and filled with sharp wit between our couple and plenty of heated passion all while gradually falling in love with each other and learning to appreciate what the other had to offer. Very well written! I cant wait to read the rest of this series!

Undone by Lila DiPasqua: OK, so I didn't really get the whole 'fairy tale' think from the blurb of the book BUT very well written with passionate main characters surrounded by love, drama, and action. It's a great, fun read that is easy to get swept up in.

The Problem with Seduction by Emma Locke: ok, so seriously, the concept of the story had me laughing. you can look up the blurb to understand what I mean. I won't give away the plot. this story was so well written you can't help but just love everyone.

A Dangerous Invitation by Erica Monroe: ok, so in a nutshell, the heroine is kick-ass but the hero is an ass LOL great story and one you don't see too often (mainly the setting), you just gotta get past Daniel.

Once Upon a Duke by Eva Devon: All I can say is you will be LOL constantly thru this book!

Great & Unfortunate Desires by Gina Danna: HOLY ANGST people! This story made me feel way too much but I LOVED IT!

Dark Surrender by Erica Ridley: I chose not to read this story because based on the few reviews I read before I was to begin, everyone talked of the 'gothic' feel to the novel and that is not something I enjoy. It would have been unfair to read it and try and rate it if I don't enjoy that kind of book.

OVERALL...This bx set rates a very HIGH 5 stars from me!!!

An Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book was received free via Netgalley for an honest review.

Overall, I am glad I read this set of books. Some were definitely not my cup of tea, but I did find some new-to-me authors that I really enjoy and whose books I am now reading because I first read them here.

Scoundrel Ever After by Darcy Burke: 1.5 - Once upon a time there was a book in a series that was not a standalone... and I read it. If I had read it as part of the series, perhaps I would have liked it better. Perhaps I could have forgiven some of the idiotic things the characters did. Perhaps I could have understood the characters better. Perhaps I would not have responded with "WTF did I just read?" As it is, Ethan and Audrey both acted like simpletons, the secondary characters - many of whom were from previous books - confused me and I could never really feel sympathy for any of them. Ah well, better luck next time.

Lady of Pleasure by Delilah Marvelle: 4 - An utter gem. Enough pain and agony to simply adore the characters. More than enough risqué fun for the time. Caroline and Ronan are perfect for each other and while there was far too much pain to call this book delightful, I enjoyed it immensely. I'm definitely going to have to get my hands on the other books in this series because this one had excellent characterization and, while the language wasn't exactly always appropriate for the time, it did work with a lesser seen scene in historical romance. I'm impressed.

Sonata for a Scoundrel by Anthea Lawson: 4.5 -Loved the fact that these weren't lords and ladies at endless parties. Loved the early celebrity status and groupies. Loved the translation of emotion to music. What wasn't to love? This really is a very different story and it was all the more awesome because of it. Really enjoyed reading about the inspirations for this piece as well. I learned a lot and that makes this story even better.

To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield by Bronwen Evans: 3.5 - A bittersweet story of family intrigue. Caitlin and Harlow were fun characters dealing with impossible situations related to their respective families. I liked how feisty Caitlin was and how frustrated Harlow was. While Harlow is an idiot three times over and I wish Caitlin hadn't been so nice in the end, I appreciate that they both had some hard decisions and choices to make. It's not exactly very true to historical conditions, but liking the characters goes a long way in making that palatable and at least seem like it could have happened.

Undone by Lila DiPasqua: 2.5 - No clue where the Rapunzel allusion came from. There is nothing even remotely Rapunzel-like in this story. It was an ok story, not really anything special. It includes a lot of history so bonus for that but it all felt tangential instead of interwoven. I felt like I was reading a contemp with some historical figures. It could be the very modern language with the very long ago time. Interesting use of those historical figures and their histories. It's certainly an underutilized time frame within romance, especially given the characters' situations.

The Problem with Seduction by Emma Locke: 3 - I liked it because it had some interesting gender role swapping. I didn't like it for the rather implausibly perfect ending. Overall, a fun story. Again, some very underutilized character types, which would usually get higher marks. The tie-in to a previous book made me feel like I was missing a lot and the obvious hook to another book, while intriguing, didn't really make this one better. It felt at turns overly funny and then overly maudlin, almost over the top which kept me from truly sympathizing with characters when I really needed to be emotionally cringing.

A Dangerous Invitation by Erica Monroe: 3 - This is the book that inspired me to pick up this set from Netgalley and the last book I read. I struggled through it, mostly. While in general I liked Daniel and Kate, neither inspired me to care about them all that much. The players in the game of intrigue and murder were often confusing. I did like the Author's Note and historical discussion of the resurrection men and the case that this book used to build the story. In the end, while I struggled to really enjoy the book, I did like it well enough and I am curious about the other books in the series.

Once Upon a Duke by Eva Devon: 3 - Two people in emotional agony: just my kind of catnip. Kate and Ryder are both wonderful characters. Each in search of surcease from pain and going about it in ways that don't help at all. Wonderful secondary characters in Hunt and Imogen. It ran a bit long and felt a bit more drawn out than it needed to be. A satisfying end to an emotional story.

Great & Unfortunate Desires by Gina Danna: 2.5 - A wild spy adventure set in the early days of the Victorian era. The romance felt more tacked on than anything. The villains were nothing more than Hans Grubers who somehow could compel someone much higher in station to betray his country. Pretty implausible. The truth is staring the reader in the face and I was left wondering when all the pieces of the puzzle would slot into place for the characters. It was a little too much of everything and it just didn't work all that well for me.

Dark Surrender By Erica Ridley: 2.5 - It started off so promisingly and then moved into WTF territory. Far too many loose ends, characters who were two-dimensional, and a terrible sense of time and location. I can't say I'm surprised, but I am saddened that it went downhill so very quickly.

This is a review for one of the stories in this anthology, specifically A Dangerous Invitation by Erica Monroe. Based on this book alone, there is no doubt that the stories in this anthology will all be a delight to read!

In this exceptional historical romance, we are treated to the story of Kate, forced out of her comfortable middle class existence to the shadows of thievery by the demise of her father's shipping company and Daniel, an alcoholic who fled a false accusation of murder, abandoning Kate in the process. Now recovering from his alcoholic addiction, Daniel is determined to restore his good name and rebuild his relationship with Kate - if he can convince her that he has changed and is worthy of her trust and her love.

There are so many aspects of this book that I loved that it's hard to know where to start. The setting of the story is original and unique, completely unlike any other regency romance I've read. Instead of the typical ballroom scenes, high born lords and ladies with perhaps a dash of the lower elements featured, this takes place entirely amidst the lower class, the thieves, beggars and prostitutes, the people struggling to make a living and stay afloat in a world that cares nothing for their situation. The attention to detail in the setting - the language, idioms, images and descriptions of everyday life bring the reader fully into the story and into the daily life of the average man and woman. No small detail is overlooked, from the description of clothing, to the buildings, streets and everyday actions of the poor and their struggle to survive. Yet it is not told in a depressing manner but rather with a matter-of-factness that enables readers to immerse themselves into the life being lived with no apologies.

Kate has been forced into the rookeries through the bankruptcy of her father's company coming as a direct result of his defence of Daniel, an employee of his company, accused in the murder of a fellow co-worker. When Daniel fled the charges, her life turned upside down - her father died, she was left destitute and she is eking out a survival for herself serving as a fence for stolen goods. Her character is expertly written as a strong confidant woman who will do what she must to survive. She has learned to rely only on herself and that trusting no-one is the only way to move forward. She is courageous, daring and suffers no fools.

Then there is the character of Daniel. Such a flawed hero! He knows fully that his addiction to gin has cost him everything - his good name, his employment, his relationship with Kate, and his complete memories of what happened the night a man was killed and he was blamed. Knowing that running away was the only option to save his neck from the hangman's noose, he abandoned Kate to her fate and continued down the path of alcoholic destruction until his memories of Kate haunted him into an epiphany that he must give up gin to save himself. His re-emergence into her life is the beginning of the story. He knows how much his betrayal has cost her, and how much he must do to redeem himself in her eyes. I loved the portrayal of his character, his continuing struggle with alcohol as would be realistic for any recovering alcoholic, his shame over what has happened to Kate and his attempts at forgiveness and redemption. He is dogged and determined to prove his worth once again.

The two characters together have an explosive sexual chemistry. From the very first pages their attraction to each other is undeniable and while Daniel wants to deepen their existing relationship, Kate fights the memory of their lovemaking, creating a delicious sexual tension for the reader. The author is skilled at building this tension and the ensuing and inevitable love scenes are steamy and well written.

Secondary characters in the book add flavour and dimension to the story. The suspenseful plot carries the reader along at a fast pace as the mystery of the murdered man is uncovered and the danger to Kate and Daniel increases. Readers will find themselves unable to put the story down as it races to its completely satisfactory conclusion.

In summary, this historical romance has everything I would want in a story - excellently researched setting, wonderfully realistic flawed characters, steamy love scenes, fast paced action and an overwhelming feeling of complete satisfaction at the end of the story. Knowing there will be more novels in the Rookery Rogues series is icing on the cake. 5 fabulous stars!

I will be updating this review as I finish each story...

Sonata for A Scoundrel by Anthea Lawson -
A really great read. The relationship between the characters built slowly, the writing was filled with charming references to the music. I really enjoyed how the story was really built around the heroine's compositions. For me it had a great flow. My only critique would be that I wish it had been even longer! I didn't want it to end. I was really hoping for maybe a debacle with the brother or father when he finally proposed, but instead it all went very smoothly. I would have liked to see her work things out with her brother just a bit more too. But all and all it was great. 5/5 stars

Scoundrel Ever After by Darcy Burke -
This story had a lot going on, but despite what was obviously a detailed background story it still made sense. I am definitely interested in reading her earlier works in the series, but I do think I would have preferred to read them in order. For a romance this one had a lot of action to it. It was an interesting read and written well, but not my favorite in the collection. 4/5 stars

Once Upon a Duke by Eva Devon -
This book had a few more typos that the others, which always bugs me. The story was centered completely around sex and love sort of followed after. Its not my favorite kind of plot, but it was alright. The romance wasn't actually that believable, honestly by the end its seemed like the only reason Kate was into the duke was because he kept buying her presents. 3/5 stars

Dark Surrender By Erica Ridley -
Despite the title, this was one of my favorites of the collection. The plot and characters were deep and intricate. They were flawed, and sometimes I didn't like their actions, but it made them very human as well. Ridley also did a great job of portraying the nine year old girl. Getting children right is difficult for many writers, but Lillian was a very accurate 9-year-old at least from my experience. 5/5 stars.

Undone by Lila DiPasqua -
I started this one and realized it was really going to be a tale of instant attraction. I didn't really feel like reading a book about some horn dog who is only into the heroine because of her looks, so I sort of skimmed the first few chapters. Once his feelings started to grow I appreciated it a bit more. The story was deeper and more historical than most romances, which I appreciated it. Slow start but 3.5/5 stars

To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield by Bronwen Evans -
This was one of the shorter in the series. It has a really good premise, but I think the characters feelings were kind of inconsistent and that made it a bit confusing for me. For example the hero would think something like "I can't give her my heart" then a few sentences later say that he loves her. Well to me those two thoughts just aren't consistent at all. This was true for the heroine's emotions as well. Maybe that's just the human condition to have contradictory thoughts. Even though sometimes the story seemed a little all over the place, I still enjoyed it. 3/5 stars.

The Problem with Seduction by Emma Locke -
Reading a love story about a mistress, is definitely not my ideal, especially one who was in love with a married man. It was really hard to relate, maybe if she was down on her luck I would have understood more, but since she was the daughter of an Earl I found her choices pretty terrible. That said the heroine was no Mary Sue, which was interesting, but also had me angry with her on multiple occasions. Her complete lack of faith in the hero got pretty annoying, especially towards the end. I understand she was battling with her conscience, but the way she withheld information that could help him and his family was pretty despicable. The story definitely had some twists I didn't expect, and maybe didn't appreciate either. Not my favorite of the collection. 2/5 stars.

My my my!! When it comes time for a little "ME" time, there is nothing that reading can't help you through. Image yourself curled up with a bottle of wine, an assortment of chocolates, and your favor place to be with a good book; maybe with soft classical music in the background. Sounds heavenly right?

That describes my lil' spot of happiness. When the world is too lonely, too blue, too small or just too much overall; my solution is Reading! I can go where ever I want with a a book in my hands. This has always been my way.

With 2388 pages in this box set, I was swept away to my happy place. This was in fact my "calgon" sort of reading. I was able to throw myself in each story with wild abandonment as I "turned" the pages on my e-reader. There was nothing like the feeling that I had knowing I could tune out the real world around me. With this, set no story seem to drag on beyond it's self. But each story was capable of being different with each other.

Some will have you giggling, snorting even. Then there are those tender moments that make you go "awww" and randomly sighing at times. Some moments would have you wanting to smack some characters and others, you want to give huge hugs to. Now I should warn you that it's possible that even a tear or two can be found gently gliding down your cheek. There is no doubt your emotional meter will run the gambit of feelings. You might find yourself holding your bottom lip as you breathlessly delve deeper and deeper in to the romance you can experience in these historical romances of eras gone by. But I say Go With IT!!!

You will come across several types of leading ladies and gentlemen. There are cute, shy, bold & serious ladies who know what they want. As for those gentlemen we do really have some rouges, cads and possible good for nothings. But you will have to read the set to see who and what is in each one of them. I'll tell no details beyond that then as I have said. The intrigue is exciting, entertaining and of course it's up to you to find out which is which.

So I'm giving this series as a whole 4.5 out of 5 stars my friends.

***Note*** I received this ARC from NetGallery for the exchange of my honest opinion of the book. Please remember that these are my own thoughts on this series of books

Christmas in July! Tempted by His Touch is one of the few box sets I’m looking forward to reading. Every story is a present to be opened. Let’s start with Undone.

I just love this book! From the gorgeous cover to the author’s ending historical note, I was hooked. Undone is the story of Simon Boulenger who desperately wants to be part of the French aristocracy and Angelica who is running from her noble birth. Each has their own secrets but finds a way to overcome these obstacles to be together. The story was laugh out loud funny in parts, but it could bring me to tears in the very next chapter.

Lila DiPasqua is a wonderful writer who knows how to keep a reader enthralled throughout the entire story. Her prose flows easily and magically transports the reader into a fairy tale (or should I say “fiery tale”) that is, simply stated, fun. The author deftly captures the reader’s attention by introducing believable characters. Ms. DiPasqua does a fantastic job of developing the characters into ones that I like and therefore, can believe their motivations and actions. I personally thought Simon and Angelica were some of the smartest characters I’ve read about in a long time. I liked Simon a lot. Even though some of his reactions to Angelica were infuriating, I could understand his thought processes. The author does a wonderful job of explaining his motivations throughout the novel. Angelica stays true to character throughout the story. She’s a strong woman who is not afraid to take risks.

This author can lead you to believe the story will follow a certain path then take you in an exciting twist that you never expect. Undone takes nothing for granted. For me, this story took a lot of turns like a roller coaster ride, but I enjoyed every one of them.

Undone is a story that stayed with me for days because it’s so good! I can’t wait for the next story Ms. DiPasqua creates. If you haven’t picked up one of her stories, what are you waiting for? You won’t be disappointed.

Now, off to the next Rogue or Alpha . . . so hard to pick.

I enjoyed this collection of Historical Romances. I found new authors I would love to read more of their works. This was also a good way to know which ones I will not like.

Scoundrel Ever After by Darcy Burke -
This story was well written and flowed wonderfully. It has action, romance, and a bit of everything else. The story shows that people can change for the better so one must never lose hope.

Lady of Pleasure by Delilah Marvelle -
The idea of a school where men learn to be romantic and/or seductive is a great idea and should be real. A lot of men could benefit from it. This story was fun to read.

Sonata for a Scoundrel by Anthea Lawson -
A woman writes music under a man's name and is urged to do so because of financial reasons. Under her brother's name they are invited to an engagement of the most famous maestro who catches the talent in the music and proposes a musical tour with him. This is where a new life and love began their story. Dreams can come true as the rags to riches love story had a Happy Ever After ending.

To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield by Bronwen Evans -
This novel was daring and seductive. A love story with a surprising twist and a flare of passion. It made my heart swell with a wide array of emotions.

Undone by Lila DiPasqua –
I liked the research the author put into this story. Action and adventure made this an enjoyable read.

The Problem with Seduction by Emma Locke -
I loved where this story began and where it ended. All the ups and downs made everything worth reading. I had fun imaging all the side stories too.

A Dangerous Invitation by Erica Monroe - --

Once Upon a Duke by Eva Devon -
This was a very sweet love story with a few tears and laughs in between.

Great & Unfortunate Desires by Gina Danna -
This is a great murder mystery with love lost and love gained.

Dark Surrender By Erica Ridley -
The story had a paranormal feel to it without being paranormal. A very good story idea.

Wow...it took me a while to slog through this whole collection of 10 books...it took awhile and this proved to be a mixed bag but definitely worth the look.

I have previously read two of the books and their reviews are here:

Problem with Seduction - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Scoundrel Ever After - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Lady of Pleasure was an unrequited love romp that was parts romantic and parts erotic...a few spots I got stuck on and needed a break to continue but a good read.

Sonata for a Scoundrel - Clara and Darien made beautiful music together after a series of discordant melodies in the beginning (all puns intended) - cute read.

To Dare the Duke of Dangerfield - this was a really engrossing and entertaining read. Loved Caitlin's spunk and Harlow's sense of responsibility and fair play.

Undone - Simon and Angelica are inspiring as they learn to trust and grow and to take on convention to make their love a reality.

A Dangerous Invitation - Daniel and Kate are survivors in every sense of the word, finding their place in the sun after a tragedy and learning to trust and love again. Loved the intrigue and their intrepidness...

Once Upon A Duke - naive Kathryn and jaded Ryder, though seemingly opposites, are both stubborn and opinionated. Lovely, lovely sparks!

Great and Unfortunate Desires - Tristan and Evelyn unknowingly share a painful past. This in their journey to come out of that past and into love.

One of the Book Groups that I am reading is Tempted by his touch. There is only 10 books so this should be a piece of cake, right? Right? Not so much here. I have gotten through 8 of the 10 books and have reviewed 2 of the 10 books. There are 6 in here that I will not be doing a review post on, because I did not like them. The authors writing did not appeal and I thought that they were not as refined in their writing style. I would not recommend them, but everyone has different tastes so please look at other reviews, and find someone close to your taste in books, and see whether they liked it or not.

I did not like this bunch of books, but thought it was just ok. The reason I did not like this batch was because they were either all about sex, or the writing was un-refined. Some times it was hard to turn the page to continue these books.

I did get one wonderful book out of this and that was Sonata for a Scoundrel. The descriptions in this book put your mind to work imagining what it would be like for you to live in a world with the characters.

I will be giving Tempted by His Touch two stars.

Definitely get this anthology for it has ten full length novels that will not disappoint you. I can't forget to mention that each story also has a very dashing hero...maybe dashing isn't the word to describe them but they know how to make our heroine fall for their charms.

Each stories has its unique plot that draws in the reader. One story would be sweet and beautiful and the next one is emotional and dark. There was one story that really have a history influence to it and I was intrigue. I don't read many historical romance books that would have a historical event incorporated into the plot throughout the book. That blew me away. It was a pleasure reading each of the stories because even though the novels in this anthology have been release by the respected authors before, I never got a chance to read them. With this anthology, I got a chance to read them all because it was a deal.

As far as this group of books you have something for everyone. There was a couple of books that I would not have bought but I found them very good. I give all the books 5 stars but there were 3 that I felt should be 10 stars. I feel everyone has to make up there own mind about this group of books so I am not going to tell you about each book.

I would recommend you buy Tempted by his touch and you will not be disappointed. These are very talented authors and I enjoyed reading there stories and will be reading more of there books.

Wonderful reads for a great price. So many of my favorite historical authors and a few new ones I plan on adding to my TBR list. If you are a fan of historical romance like I am this boxed will sweep you off your feet and allow you to escape back into history. These wonderful reads have a little of everything danger, passion, a few spots where you will be laughing and then crying and of course don’t forget the romance. Loved it!

**I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion**

I'm featuring Once Upon a Duke for review:

This was a fabulous read and everything I could want in a historical romance set in England! I hope there will be more stories from this "new to me" author! The characters and storyline were so devilishly clever and deliciously written, I could hardly put it down. I loved this story and hope you will, too!

With a collection of ten very different in style and content historical romances by a range of authors, anyone who enjoys this genre will be delighted with at least some of the novels included in this box set. The authors range from some I already had read to new ones who I will now look out for, the storylines are all different but many have strong female characters as well as male ones. This is totally great value for money and worth getting before it is withdrawn on 21st September!

There were a number of books in the collection that I really struggled with. I found them really boring and hard to finish. However, there were also a few (the minority of) that I did enjoy. Is it worth buying this collection? I would say sure! The price of each of the individual books was around the five dollar mark and I bought ten for 99c. I think that makes up for all the dodgy books in this collection quite adequately.

I fluctuated between 2 & 3 stars but settled on two as there were a few of these stories that were rather cruder in language and sexual description than I like to read! This box set was long (over 2500 pages) so these were not novellas which did make me happy! However after all is said and done the stories did sort of blend together even though I can remember a few.

What a fantastic collection of tales with dashing Dukes, Rogues and Alpha Heroes. If you are in need of one collection that you can take with you to the beach or on vacation to keep you busy for hours then this is a collection for you. Some stories may contain more graphic scenes and if you would prefer a less steamy set then this might not be for you. Overall they are a nice collection.

From making beautiful music together to mystery and intrigue this collection has it all. I enjoyed all the stories very much which I found refreshing because normally I end up not liking 1-2 of the stories in a big collection. Seduction is sweet. Scoundrels are scrumptious. A must read!

Next time I read one of these big box sets of full length novels, I am going to have to remember to jot down notes at the end of each story. It's been so long since I started this that I barely remember the earlier books, perhaps because some of the later ones dragged
