Chase Dagger Mysteries #2

Full Moon, Bloody Moon

Rate this book
A series of gruesome murders leads an Indianapolis cop and a university professor to the doorstep of Cedar Point P.I. Chase Dagger. They have a theory behind the killings. The professor believes the killings only occur just prior to and during a full moon on a Friday the 13th. He believes the evil is passed on from generation to generation. Dagger feels the professor knows far too much about the suspect and the murders. Chase Dagger is back after his debut in The Good Die Twice. Mystery author Lee Driver skillfully blends mystery with an element of horror as she touches on a little known phenomena -- on October 13, 2000 there will be a full moon and it's a Friday the 13th, the thirteenth such occurrence since 1800. You will never look at another full moon on a Friday the 13th the same way.

Second book in a mystery/horror series that has a light paranormal aspect to it. Well, light when compared to in the Urban Fantasy genre at least. Sara, even though she is a shifter, seems rather normal in comparison. Chase Dagger, the guy the series is based on, is a very capable PI with great contacts and abilities, and some big secrets that don’t come out until later in the series.

Two mysteries are being tackled. One involves the theft of guns and assault rifles from area police departments’ evidence rooms. And the other involves the horror aspect of a creature that is killing others so quickly they don’t have time to react. But we’re along for the ride from each victim’s point of view, bringing the horror the life. The full moon is when this creature will be the strongest and most destructive, so the race is on to figure out the who, what and where. And this guy is interested in Sara.

I’ve read all of the books in the series as soon as they’ve come out. What really grabs me about this series, besides the mystery, are the characters. Some you’ll love and some you’ll just love to hate. And it’s told from multiple points of view. We not only get the regulars, but the victims as well.

Reread this after a suggestion by the author who nicely offered this for free on Kindle in May since her new release, Nightfall, is tied to something that takes place in this book. I’m glad I reread it both for the reminder, but I find it enjoyable and want to go back and reread the rest of the series.

Well, I know I wrote a review for this book the day after I finished it. But, it seems to have gone missing. So, here is a new review of this one. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I was not paid in any way and all opinions are my own.

This is the first book I've read in a while that actually scared me a bit. I loved the story, I love shifter stories and such, but this one with the murders in strange ways and the history of the murders getting worse on a friday the 13th with a full moon, just got to me I guess. It gets into the head of the "bad guy", the bloodlust and desire to kill. I had a couple nightmares while reading this book, so glad the monster was stopped so I could sleep soundly. It really wasn't fear, just kind of a creepy feeling that lasted. Anyway, I still need to read the previous stories to get a bit more of an understanding of the character's background, but this story is full enough that it can be a stand alone book, leaving the reader wanting more.

This is a great read for anyone into shifters and liking stories a bit violent and creepy. The characters are very well developed, even without the background from previous books. Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

Book Description:

A series of gruesome murders leads an Indianapolis cop and a university professor to the doorstep of P.I. Chase Dagger. They have a theory behind the killings. Sergeant Marty Flynn has been tracking the suspect since March 13, 1998. Professor William Sherlock has been researching the killers for far longer. The professor believes the killings only occur prior to and during a full moon on a Friday the 13th. He believes the evil is passed on from generation to generation. Dagger feels the professor knows far too much about the suspect and the murders. When the two men ask, "Have you ever heard of a shapeshifter?", Dagger is forced to reexamine their theory. After all, Sara, his partner, is a shapeshifter. Sara has never known any other shapeshifters. And she doesn't believe something this evil could exist...until it starts communicating with her. FULL MOON-BLOODY MOON combines mystery with an element of horror. Lee Driver is a master storyteller. You will never look at another full moon on a Friday the 13th the same way. Book 2 in the series.

Good read with excellent characters...

Full Moon-Bloody Moon is a well written book with some very interesting characters. I loved the way the author made all of his characters in this book seem so human, with flaws in their personalities, just as a human would have.
The storyline is good but I think he needs to show a physical demarcation between scenes. I found myself lost for a few moments when the author did this.
Also I think that there were too many characters. They were hard to visualize at times.
I recommend this book to any avid readers of vampires and shape-shifters.

This was a pretty good mystery, with two shapeshifters- one working with Chase Dagger and the other a serial killer. I think I liked the lst book in the series better (The Good Die Twice). This one just didn't sit as well with me, maybe because of the pretty graphic killings, a few grammatical errors, and the portrayal of the female protagonist as technologically challenged. Even a sheltered person in the year of the book (2000) should be able to figure out how to pick a message off an answering machine, I think.
