I mean let's be honest. At this point, this is probably going to be a 5 star series read for me. I don't think I'm going to find much fault in any of these volumes because I relate to them so much

Volume 2 picks up exactly where we left off with volume 1. This one specifically focuses on the Kousei being roped into helping Kaori at her competition. He is supposed to accompany her while she plays the violin. The sheer fear that goes with performing in a concert hall is captured perfectly in this volume. Down to the body language and the way the music is expressed. I remember when I had to perform in a concert hall for my teacher's teacher. The nervousness and fear I felt on that single day was incredible. I can only imagine what that felt like for Kousei considering he took so much time away from playing and didn't really have the opportunity to study the music. While I won't reveal exactly what happens during the performance, I will say that Kaori is such a great supportive character. The amount of faith that she has in Kousei and his ability to play is so amazing and beautiful. It truly is the music that connects the two of them together. This is definitely a volume that is based in character study. Not only do we get better insight to Kaori and Kousei as characters, but we also get great insight to the side characters. There is a reveal related to Kaori that may indicate that we're going to get a sad ending and I don't think that I'm really prepared.

Estuvo bonito.

“This silence belongs to us… and every single person out there, is waiting for us to fill it with something.”

The sequel is every bit as good as the original! I like how it just kept going, and all the little character traits are quite useful. Kosei accompanying Kaori during her violin competition is my favourite scene. The manga's main focus is on this one event, and they couldn't have done it any better. I had the distinct impression of being at that concert hall.

I'm only halfway through the second volume, but I'm already hooked. I think I'll enjoy each book
more and more as time goes on!

There is something irresistibly enchanting about this series, and I simply cannot help but like it. Being a musician myself, may have a great deal to do with that. I love that our two main characters play the violin and piano, two instruments that I openly adore.

The majority of the book centres around the performance, which is done beautifully. I can almost feel like I'm in that actual concert hall. Performing in front of an audience in a concert, can be absolutely terrifying, and I can definitely relate to Kousei's nervousness. I appreciate the relationship that is forming between Kousei and Kaori, and the humour that the author brings in certainly helps with warming to those characters.

The artwork is wonderful, I cannot fault it. My only issue is, that is that I came to the end of this volume way too soon.

“everything you say, everything you do…all of it…shines so brightly. to me, it’s blinding. i have to close my eyes.”

i’m not gonna rate every single volume but i do like all of them don’t get me wrong!! it’s so painful in the early stages of this story when kousei hasn’t found his footing yet but the payoff at the end is so worth it 🤭 i’m for sure gonna be binging this manga nowww

This was a strong sequel to the opening volume and focuses on Arima’s and Kaori’s blossoming friendship over classical music. I had goosebumps reading their performance and the sheer passion they have for music is wonderfully shown on their faces. I feel like Kaori’s fainting spells are going to be the start of something sad though which I’m not looking forward to reading :/

I love how diverse Arima and Kaori are - the former is pretty introverted, shy and humble while Kaori is extrovert, loud and revels in attracting attention. I think they complement each other perfectly. Also love Tsubaki snd Watari as supporting characters and hope we get to see much more of them in future volumes!

The second volume is just as good as the first! I can relate to what Kosei feels on stage as he's performing. I've always wished I were more like Kaori—the music flowing out naturally and creatively.

Kaori in the hospital worries me, though. This isn't going to be a tragic manga, is it?

Great continuation, the author really knows how to capture what is like to be a musician from what I know of it being an oboe player for 7 years!

Reading this series makes me equally as sad and as joyous as watching it.

"Totally naïve. Utterly capricious. She's constantly throwing me around like I'm on a rollercoaster. This girl herself is like a journey to who knows where.

'You are freedom itself.'
'No, I'm not.
Music is freedom."

Obviously, this manga is about music, so I don't think reading it is as powerful as watching it because of that reason, but Arakawa still does a phenomenal job of making the performances and feelings come to life in this book.

~Also Saito is waaaaay more attractive in the show haha~

Have a wonderful morning 😎

Review for the entire series.

Naoshi Arakawa's Your Lie in April is a finely crafted work that will draw a steady stream of emotion from the barren crust of a calcified heart. It is a tearjerker, but it's actually a well-balanced work of humor, drama, and romance. At its heart, this story is a tragedy and a love story as well. It is a love story about life; and the tears it brings, whether from joy, sorrow, or delight.

I recommend you read this story along side the musical accompaniment it suggests in its notes. It will increase your enjoyment by tenfold.

The piano competition where Kaori is playing the violin with Kosei is her accompanist is perhaps one of the most intense segments I've ever read in a manga. So much sweat! It's hard work and Kosei is really struggling. As this volume ends, we see everyone striving so hard toward their dreams and not succeeding (yet?) This is a hard series, because there's no easy victories. I think that's the point.

Keeping reading today...I don't know why I put this down after the first volume. Now I can't stop.

I really adore the way this manga continues to unfold. Even if I know thanks to the anime that it goes on to explore more tragedy, grief and trauma, the manga reads fast and it's beautiful in the way it chooses to approach the topics it deals with and how it portrays its characters as very human kids.

Oh my god they play together and it goes so wrong.
I love how Kaori stops playing as soon as the piano stops.
I love how she supports and helps him take that step and Arima just finds answers for himself.
I love the friends who support and give their all and I'm happy for Tsubaki and would like to know more about her.
I will definitely continue reading this manga and highly recommend it.

There are some cheesy moments, and the main girl (whose name I can't remember offhand) is something of a manic pixie dream girl. But on the whole, the writing and the artwork are both quite good. And it's emotional enough that I can't help but love it, in spite of its flaws.
