When I had the chance to ask my father questions, I chose not to. But by not being able to direct those questions to him I was forced to confront them on my own. As my own adult life has progressed, my admiration for my father has grown. I wish I had asked more questions when he was alive. I wish I had tried to humanise him when I had the chance. I wish in vain; it was only when he died that the desire for answers arose.
