I tried to read this but it quickly fell apart for me. Started off decent, the first couple pages but then started to read like an outline. It became jumbled and rushed with no details. In less than 5 pages there is a failed presidential speech, angry reporters, an asteroid hits and some billionaires setup the apocalypse of the world but it fails as the virus turns them and many others to zombies. It was so rushed and jumped all over the place in way too short of a time-span. maybe it gets explained later, I do not know. with over 400 pages I hopes so but with how those pages were written and displayed I was sadly utterly turned off by the book.

I was excited when I read the synopsis. I thought, Yea an interesting new take on the whole zombie apocalypse idea, which I love. I am addicted to The Walking Dead graphic novels. I've been reading them since they first came out.

It ABSOLUTELY hate when people leave bad star ratings and a comment like, "I couldn't even finish it", how can you leave a review for something you didn't read? For that reason ALONE I read the entire book.

I have not researched the author, so I'm not sure, but this book reads like it is the first book the author has ever written. It had grammar issues that made a few sentences difficult to read/understand. The story jumps from story to story with no lead up or introduction or even a chapter title. It is difficult to keep up with which story the author was trying to tell. New characters were constantly introduced with little to no background or introduction. There wasn't a true plot to the story, what is the story about, where is it going... No point, just constant rambling. I told my husband it was like listening to an old man ramble on and on about the good old days with no point or direction. Think Abe Simpson, if your familiar with the Simpson's. There wasn't a large conflict and crescendo followed by a resolution or cliffhanger. There were only constant mini crisis events quickly over came and moved on to the next story from.

As far as the story is concerned, if this is what is left of humanity... I sincerely hope the zombies win! There were no "main " characters to speak of. Just many side characters none of which are root worthy. There weren't any characters I wanted to overcome all obstacles and rebuild the world. No, I sincerely rooted for their demise.

For reasons completely unknown 9 billionaires decide only 1% of the population is worthy and decide to kill the rest. As if that would ever be even a remote passing idea. Billionaires need the other 99% to make money. pfft The worthy 1% was magically vaccinated against whatever they planned. While sitting in a posh hotel in Vegas they unleashed their evil scheme only for it to go horribly wrong. *insert evil music* The worthy 1% became the only ones infected.

Somehow the infected 1% of the population end up being the seemingly entire population. Everyone, even the fatties *gasp* went on a bender. Sex Drugs and indulgence, anyone and every one was fair play. I'm surprised but thrilled the author refrained from depicting incest and child rape. The bender only lasts a short time and everyone becomes regular people eating zombies.

The book is the story and interactions of some of the worst humanity has to offer.

What did I learn from the book
1. Women are sluts who deserved to be demeaned and raped.
2. Only retards would be stupid enough besides children to become infected with a zombie drug.
3. All bikers are degenerate drug addict rapists.
4. Retards are good to have around to laugh at.
5. Fatties are disgusting and fun to laugh at too.
6. Coons, jig a boo, a few other racial slurs are good for grunt work.
7. Gooks (I actually had to Google to find out what this racial slur meant) are good for making weapons.
8. Even a teenager born decades after the fact knows the world would go to shit as soon as the darkies were allowed to vote.

I would NOT recommend this book to anyone. I was thrilled when the book was over, it's a 400 page book that easily could have been made 200 pages and told the same story. The fact the author is apparently making is a series is absolutely baffling. Even if it was free I will not be reading any more by this author!

The new idea that could have been great went horribly horribly wrong!

This was a very good book about zombies. I do not read zombie books, but a friend insisted so I tried it. Glad I did.

What I liked:
-The first symptom of the virus is everyone is super crazy happy (that's different).
-There are bikers, zombies, young people, old people, an undercover cop, and more.
-Some likable characters.
-a 22 cal with a silencer
-Creative sinkhole (you'll see what I mean)
-It finished strong.

What I didn't like:
-It got a little slow in the middle for me.
-There are some very rough racial scenes, bikers vrs. a black character.
-I got lost in all the characters occasionally.

Highly recommend.

While this was longer than a normal thriller, maybe longer than it needed to be, it was still a lot of fun and as realistic as a zombie book can get. Despite the description, I wouldn't consider this any more graphic than the typical apocalyptic tale.

The gritty and far-from-perfect heroes are a breath of fresh air in this genre. Don't expect some super warrior with a heart of gold to step in and save the day. You've got pop-culture obsessed, entitled kids and wannabe thugs trying to survive the end of the world. If you're tired of zombie hordes, rest assured they're merely a backdrop. Not the real threat. This story is all about rebuilding and the struggle among the survivors. Without giving anything away, the fighting is not random.

My only real complaint is the length. Euphoria borders on being an epic saga. There's so much action and conspiring in here that I'd expect a 2 or 3 book series.

Still, a fun, ultra-modern ride and more than just escapist literature. Definitely worth adding to your To Read list.

As is standard practice in this industry, I received a free review copy.

As a reader, nothing thrills me more than an author who can take an old (even overused) idea and make it new. Imagine if vampire stories had ended with Dracula? We would have never had The Historian, True Blood or Twilight. Well, that’s what Luke Ahearn has done for zombies. While Walking Dead fans are still waiting to find out what set off the apocalypse, Euphoria Z fans are well aware of the terrifying truth. He also puts a new spin on that dystopian society we’ve seen so much of recently; in this world, a sense of euphoria overtakes people even as they are being brutally murdered.

Euphoria Z drew me in with the first page, with plenty of action and the arrival of Cooper, the smart, sarcastic hero. I also loved the timeline of the story, a countdown that chronicles Cooper’s transformation from carefree every-guy to savior of his sister, and perhaps even the world.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that this guy can really write. Luke Ahearn has a rare and versatile talent to scare the heck out of the reader and make them laugh at the same time. Perhaps there is something to this Euphoria Z concept after all…

Can’t wait for the next installment of the series!

I read a shameful amount of apocalyptic novels and I don't always bother with a review. This book deserved one. The author has succeeded in creating an original spin on the classic shambling zombie tale. From Chapter 1 the action is non-stop and the gore is intense, but the author manages to weave some excellent character development and philosophy into the story as well. We follow the stories of several likable characters, as well as some intensely UNlikable ones. Really an exciting read and at over 400 pages - so worth the money!

Zu Beginn war ich wirklich begeistert, aber dann wurde es gefühlt unendlich lang.

Zu hektisch und zu viel los. Und für meinen Geschmack zu viele Kapitel von Leuten die ich persönlich nicht gebraucht hätte.

Euphoria Z is NOT for the weak stomach! Not only is the gore described in amazing detail, if bad language, racial slurs, and a constant barrage of other negative terms are a turn off for you… then you should stay away. As a matter of fact, I would suggest that you not read the excerpt either…. just stop now. If you can stomach all of that, then proceed.

This book started off a little slow, I did find myself struggling through the first couple of chapters trying to get a strong grasp on what was going on. It felt like we were being built up to some big event and then let down; but there was another event waiting in the background. I was left a little confused about that whole situation; but take a look below for a deleted scene provided by the author that explains in more detail what went down.

I loved all the characters….even the ones I hated. Character development is done directly through the dialogue. You get a true sense of each character based off the first conversation they have. In a world that has been devastated by God only knows what… there are two types of people left. Those who are looking to band together with other survivors and make the world as livable as possible and those who just don’t give a damn anymore and want to party…because obviously the end of the world is already upon us. The latter group of people seem intent on destroying everyone else.

We follow the stories of what start out to be random strangers, but in the end all their stories converge. Every action leads them closer to one another. If you are expecting a hero with a heart of gold, you won’t really find one in this book (even though Cooper and Jeff come closest).

Aside from being a little slow getting out the gate, the only thing I can come up with that might be a negative selling point is the length. It’s much longer than most apocalyptic/zombie stories and there are some parts that tend to run on. And if you are a fan of a singular point of view, the changing of POVs, sometimes mid paragraph, might throw you a little bit. Otherwise this is a great read! For those over 17 I would highly recommend this post-apocalyptic zombie story! The ending will leave you yearning for more!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.

I'm not really sure how to rate this one, let alone write a review for it. It was long, very long, and the way the zombies came to be was original. I've surely never seen that anywhere before. I think this would make a great movie.

What I liked:

-The beginning. Chaos ensues as the world realizes an asteroid is headed their way. Only, the day of expected impact comes, and...nada. Everyone's left like wah, wah, waaaahhh.
-Euphoria-Z. It was refreshing and original, and the images the words portrayed were creepy.
-The characters, they were real and flawed and true to their personalities throughout the story.
-The end!
-Cooper
-The descriptiveness. It's gory, and I loved it!

What I didn't like:

-The explanation (or lack thereof) of why the nine rich men wanted to end the world. They're timing was impeccable, they had more than enough funding, but....why? As I said earlier, I didn't realize this would not be a stand alone, so maybe that question will be answered? Doubt it, seeing as how all of them died..
-The bikers. Now, that's not to mean that they weren't written well, because they were. They made good villains, I just didn't like them!
-The story switched POV so much! Sometimes without warning, so I had to reread a little to figure out who was talking.

It was a long read, but overall, it was pretty good. Would be interested in the next one.

A particularly brutal depiction of life after a total collapse of order. I've read a couple of zombie novels but tend to watch more zombie shows. The shows I've watched can't compare to the detail of the grotesque state of the humans after they come back. There were a couple times that the descriptions made me both smile and go "eww". An added "He was wearing one shoe" at the end of a description about "flesh just gouged out of his body" seemed odd but was a nice addition.
What I liked most was the multiple character POVs and the connections between them all. As much as I would like to think the world and the people left in it would react better, I feel like Luke captured some real aspects of human nature. Whether they were good or bad.
Overall, I enjoyed the separate but related stories and characters. There were a few times where I had to reread a description of the action taking place. I'm not sure why but some of it just didn't seem to explain what was happening very well. After rereading it made sense, just disrupted my flow of reading enough that I had to put the book down a couple of times. I hope this is only something to do with me though. The book as a whole made up for it. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking to read more horror, post apocalyptic or zombie novels.

I received a free copy of this book to review. After a man made virus is release that eventually turns almost all humans into zombies, the main character Cooper searches for his sister. Meanwhile other survivors band together to make a new life where they not only have to avoid the zombies but other more devious humans. This is different then other zombie novels because of the author's detailed description on the virus from beginning to end. It's a fun read where you root for the main characters and sometimes for the zombies. The story starts slow with a lot of narration but eventually gets its stride.

Inhalt/Meinung

Was soll ich dazu sagen?

The writing was beyond bad. In one sentence, he used the same word 3 times in a six word span...and the sentence still kept going. And was then used in the next sentence. I had to re-read multiple paragraphs just to see where he was going.

The plot sounded good, but was poorly executed. I tried hard, because I love most things zombie and liked the idea, but damn, it was a very hard slog. I finally gave up about 75% in because I just couldn't take it anymore.

Welcome to the happiest place to die... the first time around. When the rich and powerful seek to gain control of the world they decide they only need a small percentage of it. Coming together in a plan to release a plague that would wipe out the majority of society, their goal was achieved at an unprecedented success rate. The people died euphorically, swarming the streets to happily partake in celebratory orgies and any and everything they could indulge in under the influence of the zombie virus.

Things quickly turn from weird to gory as the lustful sick begin devouring one another until suddenly, they all die. For a short period. The zombies rise and slowly try to kill of the living who are trying to survive in a world not only plagued with the undead, but also the violent, the prejudice, and the cultists taking advantage if the new free world.

There's plenty of zombie gore in Euphoria-Z and a very unique take on the zombie virus. The set up is perfect for getting everyone out in the open and exposed for the gruesome end of humanity. People are happy, they're walking by with smiles on their faces and asking their friends to come out and play and very few were hesitant to join the parties in the beginning.

The story line follows several survivors, there's no one main character. The reader is given the stories of all the survivors and what they're trying to do to keep things going. With no laws to restrict criminal activity it seems all the crazies and prejudice citizens have come out in full force to take advantage of the weak instead of putting differences aside and helping rebuild. A few details are missing that would help chapters flow more smoothly but we get a good sense of what's going on and what each character feels toward the situation.

Euphoria Z is a good apocalyptic, zombie book with plenty of fighting, gore, and rescues. It creates a unique and interesting take on the zombie virus and what would most likely happen in the event of the end of the world.

I won this book as a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

I'm absolutely speechless with this book, to be honest. I struggled BIG time to finish it because there was very little I liked about this, but finish it I did. Now I've read a lot of post apocalyptic fiction but none has come close to this in relation to the overall feeling of it. I'll start off by saying that how the Zombies started was unique, I mean the fact that they start off by being extremely happy and over affectionate was unique and I liked a whole 2 characters, Cooper and Sal but other than that, this book was, what felt like for me anyway, one long rant, debasing and derogatory story about fat people, gays, women, blacks and anything else they could find.

I know most post apocalyptic books have bad people doing even worse things and that doesn't bother me, but, this book was nothing but bad people doing disgusting things and the hateful and horrible stuff that was said was worse than the deeds. Example, and this is just the tip of the ice berg, laughing at a fat woman because she couldn't get up, calling women everything from bitches to whores, having them naked and locked in a cage, and as for the racial slurs!! It was just down right disgusting.

In all, this is a book I can't recommend, personally, but that's not to say that you won't enjoy it. I have book 2 for review but I'm not sure if I'll continue on. Maybe I'll listen to it for a while to see if the bad things above have become any better, but I'll have to see. My heart can't take any more hatred at the moment.

Roberto Scarlato did a good job. I had no problem at all with his narration, the book yes, but not him.

Euphoria-Z is definitely NOT for the weak stomach. The gore can be pretty descriptive at times, but it's enough for the kind of book it is. The character development was fantastic, I really was pulling for Cooper the whole time, then all of a sudden, we meet new people and you just hope beyond hope that they all find each other and oh man. It was so well developed. I would read this at work and would go home, thinking about how badly I wanted to keep reading it! It was very well written, not too many repetitions about the gore and such. Sometimes people will use the same phrases over and over and it's noticeable, but that wasn't the case with Euphoria-Z at all. The pace was well done also. I was hoping it wouldn't be too fast (like some of the novels I have read recently, where the action just happens so quickly, then the book is over) because I really wanted to see the characters and plot develop. And I appreciate that it was more of the survival of the characters rather than just watching the apocalypse just occur. It read similarly to World War Z, in that it was more of the aftermath of the epidemic, than while it was occurring. I think the only "fault" I could find was that sometimes the switch between character plots would happen so quickly, that I would have to go back and remember what had just happened before, but it wasn't too hard to jump back in.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I hope that I am able to review the next in the series!!!!

I like the author as I think he is very talented. He makes writing look very easy. The basic premise is the world is given a chance to "don't worry...be happy!" to the max. Society quickly breaks down, morality goes away quickly, people start doing things they would never -- in a normal world -- dream of doing.

Where did it come from? Was it part of a meteorite that passed through the atmosphere? Was it part of a comet's tail? Was it really a government plot to depopulate the world (not a great idea in this case because once the happy people have run their string, they usually stop, drop and croak)? If it was a plot, it wasn't the best plan in the world because the happy people become happy zombies, eating anything in their way, including themselves.

Not everyone in the world was affected by the pathogen and Ahearn's handling of their fight for survival is excellent. His descriptions flow easily while his dialogue just seems very natural. In other words, Ahearn has great writing chops and you really will enjoy "Euphoria-Z." The characters are real, their stories are real and their fear seems palpable as the zombies patrol looking for human kibble to eat.

It's an excellent summer read, although I wouldn't recommend it on a long rainy summer night because, if you dose on the couch, you may think there are people hiding under your couch, just waiting to get you! And, who knows, maybe there are?

First paragraph: One year ago…
“We are coming for you, you bastard!” The shout echoed through the forest. They’d been stalking him and now they were very close, but only because he’d allowed it.

I received a free copy of this book for a fair review. Thank you, Mr. Ahearn. Nice read.

I would rate this one a 3 1/2 stars, rounded up to 4. There are many elements of this book that I enjoyed - as zombie fiction, there was lots of action, gory sequences, hair-raising near escapes, and characters that you cared about. I particularly liked the clean copy - it's rare to find a zombie book that is free from horrendous grammatical errors, and this one was pleasantly so. In addition, it's even more rare to find a zombie book with a well done book cover, and this one's cover matches the contents of the book exquisitely. No stock image of a model who doesn't match the character, here you clearly know it's Cooper making his stand against the horde.

There a lot of characters running around in this book, almost too many, in my opinion. Also, some of the plotting and pacing of the book tended to ramble on, and I believe the book would be much more effective if it were tightened up and shortened. Although I really enjoyed the premise of the infection's origin, I thought the opening sequence with the asteroid hit was unnecessary. Sometimes too much is overkill.

Nonetheless, an enjoyable read, and recommended.

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

This is a fresh twist on the zompocalypse...but I still don't understand why these 9 rich dudes decided to wipe out most of the population....and they way this story hops around was really confusing at times....you really couldn't get a chance to solidly bond with anyone...that being said...Luke is a good writer...he is very descriptive, and paints a good clear picture...that is always an awesome thing in a book...especially in an audio book....

What I did like....I liked Cooper....he was really a good character...I would have liked this book more if his point of view and story was more of the focus...I liked the outbreak, how it started as a delirium and caused people to literally love each other to death...I liked Sal and the group...that is really needed in an end of the world situation...and I like the ending...it opened up this series to be something I want to know more about!

What I didn't like...The racial slurs, and fat hate...the multi character hopping around...the way certain parts made strippers look like promiscuous druggies...and bikers look like predators and women beaters...that is generalizing a whole group of people...and this story was very drawn out..it could have been condensed and been awesome, other than just ok....I still am extremely interested in book 2...I gave this a 4 for overall...the story itself without the narration, is really a 3.5 in my humble opinion....

You’ll get a strong dose of zombie gore in this book. Nothing you can’t handle though.

I was all excited about the comet that was going to strike. Then, once it hit, I was as disappointed as the characters. Nothing happened. But then it did. Just not how I expected.

People got happy, strangely happy, then they died horribly and rose again. The author got creative with this. It’s nice to find a new idea on how people came to be zombies.

You’re then in the beginning of the apocalypse, but the story focuses mostly on after it starts. You follow the characters as they first realize what’s happening and then through their struggles to survive.

There are lots of bad guys. Still trying to figure out why the rich dudes wanted to end the world.

One thing I had a problem with was the switching POVs. They happened suddenly and sometimes I had to go back and read again to see who I was reading about. Just got a bit confusing at times.

This is not a quick read. It took me several sittings to finish it. Not that I was bored by any means. The author gave me plenty of action, great characters to care about, and lots of zombies. I just needed to sleep sometime.

The only thing I’ll tell you about the ending is that it isn’t over.

I recommend this to anyone looking for a good zombie story.

I received this book for my honest review.

I agreed to read this book and write a review. So here goes nothing..... I totally loved this book! I almost said no to reading it but I am soooo happy that I did! I stayed up until 5am Saturday night reading it even though i had to get up at 830 the next morning. So I loved all the characters and how I got to see all the different characters pov, even the bad guys. The main character is cooper who is going to find his sister in a nearby city. I do wish the book would have been more about him bc he was such an interesting guy, but at the same time I really liked learning about everyone else too. And I loved Lisa, chic cracked me up. Hopefully there will be a lot more of her in the next books to come. I also really enjoyed how everything comes together. I don't want to spoil anything but I kept thinking how is this going to come together but it did and it was great. But the thing I loved most about this book is how the disease worked. Totally different than anything else I've read so far. It was a nice spin and I liked how Sal in the beginning even says he wanted to get it so he could be happy like everyone else! It's like the disease didn't even have to work hard to spread itself bc people WANTED to get it in the beginning. Crazy! Can't wait for the next one!!!!

* I will try not to include spoilers.

in this book the world has ended as we know it. People are infected. Do not let their carefree and happy demeanor fool you. They take a beating and still keep going all with a smile on their face as they come to feast off you.

Cooper is one of the few who manages to keep going despite the challenge he faces as he searches for his sister. As if, zombies were not enough he has to face some pretty crazy humans as well. Acts of kindness are questioned as some humans cannot be trusted.

Another character I truly felt for was Sal. He lost his wife and has to find the will to go on.

While this book was quite gory as to be expected with a zombie book I found this book to be a very quick read. I appreciated the new spin on his book. His take is refreshing. I entered a giveaway via Goodreads First-reads and was contacted by the author to see if I would be interested in reading and reviewing his book. I am very grateful and appreciative for the opportunity.

I will be writing a review of this book on my blog as well, very soon!

Euphoria-z by Luke Ahearn was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
This is not Luke's first book, he also owned his own computer game company and has published many books on the subject.
Luke is a talented Post Apocalyptic author and gives a refreshing new spin to how the zombie virus started. there is definitely no shortage of zombie gore in this book.

This is a tale about several people trying to survive n a zombie riddled land and not all of them are good. Sometimes fighting for survival doesn't always bring out the best in people. Follow these colourful characters as they find a way to make a home while fighting for their lives and not always against the zombies. Who will survive?

I will say i thoroughly enjoyed this novel it was very unique which is great because most zombie books read very much the same.
While there is no shortage of putrid zombies they are not the only scary things in this book. The characters colourful and not the normal people you usually read about in these novels. With over 400 pages this is definitely worth buying and is only $3.75 you can find it at Amazon. I give this book 5 stars for originality alone.

Euphoria Z

This story was a journey. I could not believe what I was reading, and i cannot still believe the

workings of the human mind when it goes into that bad, dark place. I cannot imagine how the author could have lived the experience of that book. I suppose in writing my books, I live the experience of the characters in the book for the book to become realistic. So writing that book would have been quite exhausting for me.

Thank God that it was prophesied in the Holy book that the world will end by fire, and not by any scientific concoction, or the mismanagement of it, by a plague. The book was the armageddon for me, a different angle on how the world will end. But we cannot tell God how. He already told us how. The knowledge that the book is all fiction spurred me to read the book through without the fear that the book was supposed to provoke in the reader. I have a grand kit that will love to read such scary book. It was indeed scary.

The beginning of this book is quite slow and taxing. I wonder how many readers were lost in the first few chapters. If you can get past this first part it does get better. It begins to chronicle two sets of survivors; Sal & Ron, and Cooper & Anna as they try to make their way to safety from the infected. In a plot we have seen before, some maniac wanting to depopulate the world and start over with himself or themselves in the seat of power. Of course this plan goes horribly wrong and the dead awaken. Sound familiar? Bikers appear on the scene and in order for Sal & Ron to escape they rig the motorcycles to crash when the bikers chase them. Problem is that the bikers survived and are now crazy mad to get revenge. If Sal & Ron didn't have enough troubles, now they got angry bikers on their tail. Cooper is in search for his sister and Anna tags along. Interesting tale, but nothing you haven't heard before. Book two is a debatable listen at this point. Three.point.five for book one.

3.5 stars for me. And here is why...

This book starts off like gangbusters. It has a lot going on and some very interesting characters. I also applaud the "twist" on the zombie epidemic. If you have not read "The Loving Dead" then you might not be in tune with this particular twist. Personally, I love when a writer takes chances. Luke Ahearn absolutely did just that. For the most part, it paid off.

For me, it just seemed to bleed into a slurry of characters that I could not discern between. It is very possible that the problem is mine alone, but I just never could get a solid connection with anybody.

The story is good. The book reads fairly clean...decent editing of mechanics. I say it is worth a read if you like zombies. It most likely won't move to the head of your shelf of favorites, but you will be entertained.

Really liked this one. A new twist on the old zombie theme. Easy to read with great story lines. Loved the way all the stories merged together towards the end in a believable, sensible ending. I will be looking out for anything else by this guy. One to re-read, after I wrestle it back off my son!

Another fantastic Good Reads giveaway.
