Zombieclypse #1

Dead Quarantine

Rate this book
Unbeknownst to two teenagers—Ralph worried about a history exam he didn't study for and Sarah having studied all weekend—a flu pandemic with apocalyptic proportions rages over the world. On Monday, they arrive at their high school besieged by men in hazmat suits, escorting infected teenagers to buses. Ralph is forced on one of these quarantine buses and Sarah, along with the remaining healthy student body, gets quarantined at school.

This flu however is worse than the 1918 Spanish Flu that killed a hundred million people—much worse. This flu turns its victims into the walking dead. The few not infected are left not only with the grief of their family and friends passing, but also with the horror of their families, friends, and neighbors trying to rip the flesh off them.

Ralph—unsure about the real destination of the bus and trapped inside with kids that are getting worse by the minute—may not get to the destination in time before the first one dies. Sarah, trapped at school, deals with a worsening situation that she soon needs to escape from.

Will the zombies feast on their young flesh or will they escape?

There are two main characters in this tale, Ralph and Sarah. Both attend the same high school yet are in different social groups. On the day of the big history test, strange events are afoot, one of which is a serious, mysterious flu that is effecting a huge number of people worldwide. Neither Ralph nor Sarah are effected. This flu turns out to be something more serious as a huge number of people die and become zombies.

Aside from a few typos and grammatical errors, the narrative is crisp, descriptive, and flows extremely well. Conversations and interactions between characters are realistic and add depth.

Unlike other zombie media, it is intriguing how this story focuses primarily on teenagers.

The characters are authentic and interesting. Throughout the adventures and trials of the tale, both characters grow, adding to the depth of the story.

Overall, an enjoyable read.

There are a few things that bothered me about this book. The first is the lack of development in the characters. They seemed very one dimensional, but teenagers tend to be one dimensional in real life, so I can overlook this. The kindle version has quite a few "typos". It would have greatly improved my reading experience if someone had taken the time to proof read the text and correct the mistakes. And last but not least, it just ended. It was open ended. I was so involved in the story that when I read "The End" I almost screamed "NOOOOOOO". I am so glad to see there is a second book because I have to know what happens.
In spite of the issues mentioned above, I still enjoyed the story so much that I will get the second book and I will definitely recommend this book to others.
I received this book for free from Library Thing in return for an honst review.

Was a very good book. the story was good. was different read about teens working together in a zombie Apocalypse work to survive not having the maim character be an adult. where the book had is issue the character development was a little bit weak. But had good pace and it was a page turner so the real rating 3.5/5

This first book to this Zombieclypse series was full of action and I liked the set up for the zombie apocalypse making it for the worst two days for a couple of teenagers who just thought the only thing they had to worry about was passing their history exam. I could really see this book being a tv mini-series, I do enjoy a good zombie show. For reading this was enjoyable and of course, there was your average teen angst and romance and typical zombie predictabilities along with some shockers. It would have been nice to have a little more character development with all the characters especially the ones that do not end so well, that would have definitely been more impactful. There are more books to this series and I am curious to see where the author is taking the story and how the two main characters will fair in this new zombie-filled world.

Horror and zombies are not my normal genre but I have read a few recently and been very surprised at how much I have enjoyed them. This one did not disappoint.

It is about a flu pandemic which sounds very similar to Covid 19 with one notable difference.......... the dead turn into zombies. It would seem that this pandemic may also be manufactured as clearly the government are involved. To what extent is not fully revealed in this, the first book in a series.

Interestingly, this book was actually published in 2012 so does not draw on our current virus or situation.

I got into the story from the begining and although some of what happens is quite horrific, I really enjoyed it. The ending left me wanting to read book 2 to see what happens to the remaining characters. Definitely worth reading if horror and zombies are your thing and maybe even if they aren't.

Terrible.

No editing at all, lost of misspelled words (loose instead of lose, solder instead of soldier, just to name a few), a storyline that doesn't even come close to being believable.

Like 200 miles worth of school buses filled with people on the way to incinerators. All run by the military who are just killing everyone for whatever reason (the buses would get to the end, be picked up by a machine and hurled into a single burning pit....).

Soldiers rappelling down to chase our heroes in the dead of night to shoot them, then give up and just nuke the city. Why would soldiers bother hunting down people using a helicopter if they were just nuking the city anyways?

For what it was at best OK.

As far as the zombie aspect of this book is concerned it is very well done- exciting, interesting and very creepy- all good right? Well, no. The author has decided instead of opening her thesaurus and using her excellent brain to write good dialogue she will pander to the baser sorts and fill the book with f bombs and other assorted foul language. Unnecessary for such a good writer to stoop to the level of a gutter snipe but what can you do?
I would love to continue the series based on the zombie aspect but am not going to because I refuse to fill my mind with more refuse. Sad indeed. Disappointing.

Not bad, kind of one demensional characters but not bad.

It's in need of some editing here and there, mainly little typo's and some weird stop and start moments but nothing bad enough to stop reading.

The only real problem for me was the ending, or more like the last 2 pages.

Fun read

I enjoyed reading this book. It is a typical zombie story, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think if you are looking for a story that you can just enjoy and be entertained then this is the book for you.

A fast-paced story and an entertaining one.
Unfortunately, there is some bad grammar.
Also, the author is far too fond of the expression "honing in" - especially since the correct expression is homing in.

Very YA and lacking some fleshing out of the story. However, it wasn’t totally garbage and didn’t have super obvious writing errors like some zombie books do. It was just kind of flat. So I don’t think I will spend time on the rest of the series.

Addictive reading.

Dead Quarantine was an excellent book. I loved the characters, especially Ralph. I know he's not real but I liked him anyway. It was non-stop action, on and on. The problem is that I can see the government doing this for real and that is very scary. It was a very easy book to read. I really recommend it.

This book is totally appropriate for younger teens, even tweens. Reflects on what our jh and hs students go through and deal with on a daily basis; parents scolding, assignments due, and the pecking social order at the school. Only...Oh wait, everyone's getting sick. Things go from bad to worse and suddenly it is a zombie apocalypse. I especially enjoyed when Ralph decided to fake an illness in order to miss his history exam. That totally backfired! The unique element of this book is that you watch people get sick and turn. You live through the eye's of the students while they try to process what's happening around them. It's not a dystopic story - ex post facto - where the zombies are already there and people are learning survivial skills. It's kind of a prequel, and it's pretty cool.

A good quick read

This is a good quick read, however the grammatical errors, and the author changing names was completely distracting. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the storyline thoroughly. However, when the author fumbles the names of the characters " Jake to Jack and back", or the usage of certain words " carbonated when I believe he ment carbonized", as well as misplaced he for her, or she for he. Or the placement of which character is doing some and switching between them. It can become quite distracting to the overall enjoyment. I personally wasn't too fazed by this, having raised two children. But the author should be aware of these mistakes and become all the better as he moves forward. I am quite ready to continue the series, apprehensively perhaps, but with a yearning to follow the storyline and the characters struggles.

This book started off kind of rough and jerky at first but smoothed out later on. It was an enjoyable, short read but could use a little bit of editing here and there. It is fast paced and fun, something I wouldn't mind having a physical copy of. The ending prepares for a sequel, one I would probably look into reading.

A fast paced zombie story told from several high school teen's point of view; where of course everything else seems more important than a weird flu-like illness that just happens to kill you and bring you back as a zombie.

If you like zombie stories, you wil prombably like this. The end did leave me hanging, so I will look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Would have been 5* if not for the errors in the book. Really enjoyed the story and the progression of it, but the errors just blew. Chapter Telve and an unknown character introduction by the name of Jack that I'm assuming is Jake to name a few.

Felt a bit amateur. I found myself scrolling through several pages at a time without missing a lot of the story.
