A bright high schooler has discovered to his horror that death is just a repeatabl event for him - and that humanity has no mercy for a demi-human. To avoid becoming a science experiement for the rest of his interminable life, Kei Nagai must seek out others of his kind. But what would a community of them stand for?
Volume 2 also includes the AJIN pilot chapter - File: 00 "The Shinya Nakamura Incident."

" Esos seres no mueren...esos seres reciben el nombre de semi-humanos". Aún es temprano para dar una opinión tanto positiva o negativa sobre este manga. No ha llegado ni al climáx (solo llevan unos seis capítulos, es normal) y la historia sigue tan enigmática como el primer tomo. Espero que vayan dando pistas sobre los orígenes de estos seres pronto.
currently, it's going pretty predictable, nothing too much either. give me more pain and character development, I want to see Kei destroy the association and grow smarter
I'm starting to love this manga! It has everything I love: •great art (especially the girls, they turn out to be very pretty; the fighting sequences & horror/gore panels look excellent, I like the characters designs!) • lovable main character with a good heart who finds himself in unfortunate and tragic circumstances (no, his name isn't Kaneki Ken, why would you ask?) • I'm very invested in the plot and the whole mystery of new species • discussions about humanity, choices, means to achieve the goal and other good stuff • is there humanity left in humans? • and as my favorite quote says "draw a monster, why are they a monster?"
This was ok. A little slower. We're sloy learning more about the world and characters. The action scenes are graphic and gory. I'll probably give this one more volume before I make my decision.
"I can't let them ruin his life just 'cause he's a demi-human that'd be shameful!!" "no, He's lucky. If he wasn't a demi-human he'd be dead. Wanna worry about people who'll never die?"

Great follow up to volume one, superb art and I like where the story is going. Chapter 9 in particular when Sato goes for Kei is some of the best action I’ve seen in manga!
I was a little hesitant, going into Ajin at first. The basic premise struck me as just another go at the tired "teens get superpowers they never asked for, and must fight against the people trying to track them down" trope. But the art was good, and the series had been getting a surprisingly positive reception, so I decided to give it a try.
Volume 1 wasn't bad by any means--a little unpolished here and there, but it seemed to be doing some interesting things with tried & true ideas. Nothing mind-blowing, but better than I'd been expecting. Volume 2 is where things kick into a higher gear.
The interplay between the various groups interested in demi-humans is really quite interesting. In true sci-fi style, the government's main focus is capturing and experimenting on the demi-humans at any cost, but given that the first demi-human discovered was a soldier who couldn't die, the urgency and ruthlessness of their rationale gains a level of believability. Likewise, the brutal tactics of the rogue demi-humans to try and recruit Kei to their ranks have their roots in anger, fear, and a desire for vengeance. They're cold, calculating, and just as twisted as the scientists whose abuse made them that way in the first place. And in the middle of it all, is Kei himself, struggling to hold onto his humanity, while everyone who's after him (on both sides) becomes increasingly monstrous through their actions.
That is what makes Ajin work so well. We've all seen the "who are the real monsters here?" theme bandied about from time to time, but something about the way it's presented here just works really well. Each side is motivated primarily by fear, and as such, it's hard not to sympathize at least on some level, with most of these characters. They put each other through hell (often in pretty graphic fashion), but that only furthers the motif of what happens when you let fear take hold of you.
Further complementing all of this is the excellent artwork. From creature designs, to faces (particularly eyes), to background details, it's been awhile since I've read a manga that looks this good. The quality of Gamon Sakurai's art takes an already-decent story, and cements the moments of horror, shock, and despair even more firmly in the reader's memory. I'm really enjoying this series so far, and I look forward to reading the rest of it.
Bukannya ceritanya ga seru, seru banget kok sebenernya. Sangat malah. Tapi tokoh utamanya itu lho pengen saya kelitikin. Kenapa? Soalnya ga konsisten. Kesampingkan soal sikapnya ke Kai.
Kei, si tokoh utama ini, seorang siswa SMA. (Pernah) bercita-cita jadi dokter. Ajin.
I wanna love this, but at the moment I just like it. It could all very well be because it's a bit confusing structure at the start. I also feel they throw characters out like you should know them. So when it's complete, and I know everyone, I think might like it more.
However the art is still on point, the vicious dissecting part made me nearly hurl, and man oh man the shootout scene was insane. So there's great parts to this volume no doubt. At the same time the prequel was questionable and kind of cliche. Also the characters explaining every little thing at times can be annoying.
I still can't wait to read more though. Horror manga/anime is one of my favorite things in the world.
Once again, this series entrances me. Everything I wrote in my review of the first volume applies to this second installment as well. The artwork, attention to detail, movement of the work, character development, world building, themes, background stories, suspense, character relationships, and action of the story is just as present in this second volume as it was in the first. I keep getting more and more story that was not included in the anime and I'm so excited about it! I was particularly thrilled in this volume to get the story of Shinya Nakamura, which has been alluded to in both the anime and the first manga volume but has not been revealed in the way in which it is at the end of this volume. I really hope to see more of his story and also the story which began on Kei's old high school friend in this volume. Seriously, this manga does such a good job at character development and uniqueness that I can't wait to see more of everyone's stories! Even characters barely shown. The artwork is as stunning as usual and the grittiness of it, which is even more apparent in the manga medium than in the anime, fits the tone and story perfectly. Have just ordered the next volumes so I can binge read this slowly and soak in all the details of this series.
Ajin: Demi-Human Vol. 2 is where the action truly begins and the story really starts to shape itself. While the first volume leaves some lingering questions and curiosities about the characters and demi-humans alike, the second volume begins to answer them.

At the end of Volume 1 and into Volume 2, Kei separates from Kai— on his own in the quest for survival. He travels to find the two other demi-humans known in Japan. One is named Sato (simply known as “Hat” to the Ministry), and the other, Tanaka.
Kei is then captured during his attempt to meet up with the other two demi-humans and is taken in for extensively torturous research. Though trapped inside the research lab for more than a week, the same demi-humans show up to save Kei.
Which leads me to mention how amazing this rescue was visually depicted. Sakurai’s artistry shows a bloodbath and a hell of an attack. The drawings really get a chance to shine in this volume; from the really cool kill scenes to the amazing and more plentiful depictions of the black ghosts that the demi-humans can conjure up.
We also get a sneak peek into what may happen to demi-human sympathizers. Kei-suke, one of Kei’s classmates/friends is one of them. We’re briefly introduced to his character as we see him browse the internet on ways to aid demi-humans. He ends up coming across a website for a group that advocates for demi-human rights and protections. Kei-suke signs up on the site, not knowing that he actually entered himself into a database run by Tosaki that tracks demi-human sympathizers. I’m very eager to keep reading because I just need to know what happens to sympathizers and Kei-suke.
There’s also a bonus chapter, The Shinya Nakamura Incident.
Again, another 5 star volume for me! Can’t wait to get Vol. 3 so I can fly through that one, too.
