Now it’s time for the B-Team to show why they’re so un-B-lievably B-loved.
That’s right, Bongo and Marsha, the super-spy Badgers, are on the case…and way over-budget. When S.U.I.T. realizes just how much money the Badgers waste with their gadgets and spy vehicles and custom plush toys, they’re sent to Bora Bora to investigate a case…the old-fashioned way. The bees—that’s “bee-ee-ee,” like the insect—that run the resort are hiding something under the tropical sands, and Marsha and Bongo are just the bumbling agents to crack this pineapple-flavored case wide open.
John Green grew up on Long Island and has worked in New York City ever since graduating from School of Visual Arts for Graphic Design in 1997. He was the comics consultant for Disney Adventures magazine, and in addition to Disney has written, illustrated, or otherwise worked on comics for Nickelodeon, Dreamworks, Scholastic, DC Comics, and First Second Books. When not drawing comics John creates artwork for video games, such as Emerald City Confidential, Puzzle Bots, and Nearly Departed. See more of John's work at www.johngreenart.com.
Cilantro is off on a mission in space, the InvestiGators are in Antarctica, so the B team gets called in to see what is going on at a Bora Bora resort. Everything is oddly pineapple honey flavored and guests are reporting items missing. What is going on? And can the badgers solve the case without breaking the budget again?
Bongo and Martha aren’t my favorite S.U.I.T. agents, but this is still an entertaining mystery. I have to admit, I did not predict what was going on at the resort (and I doubt many reader ever would), it is very imaginative. Every once in a while we get updates on happenings in the old base under the cornfield that was found in the first Agents of S.U.I.T. book as well as teasers of what the InvestiGators are up to. Hand this to fans of both series who want to find out what the agents are up to now.
Notes on content [based on the dARC]: Language: None Sexual content: None Violence: There’s an attempt to harm the agents 3x but the worst thing that happens is a bee sting. Ethnic diversity: Human characters have a variety of skin tones, but most characters are animals. LGBTQ+ content: None specified Other: There’s a possible ghost encounter in one of the side plotlines, obviously to be explained more in a later book. The bad guys have a plan to end world hunger but their methods have issues.
I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
More Agents of S.U.I.T. Adventures! I love the InvestiGators books, and enjoyed this spin off title set in the same high tech spy world, but following the adventures of the B-team. Kids of all ages will enjoy this colorful, silly mystery. The first half of this book did feel a little slower than its counterparts, but the pacing picks up quickly once the badgers are sent on their mission.
A huge thanks to First Second for accepting my NetGalley request to read and review this title. You've made my kids think I'm untouchably cool.
My little boy gave this 10/10, while my little girl gave it 1000/10. Unfortunately Goodreads only goes up to 5 stars, but we would have awarded more if possible! A great addition to the Agents of S.U.I.T. universe. I loved getting to see more from Bongo and Marsha, who have only ever featured as background characters in the InvestiGators series. It was an unexpected surprise that the storyline from the first Agents of S.U.I.T. book continued in this one, and it certainly kept us turning the pages until the very end. Bring on book #3.
An epic, hilarious adventure from start to finish that my kids said deserved “10 stars!” I don’t know who enjoyed this more - me or my kids - and we finished it in one sitting. We loved following Marsha and Bongo, S.U.I.T.‘s B-Team, as they went undercover to solve the bungalow burglaries in Bora Bora.
Packed with jokes and spy tech galore, plot twists, callbacks to book one, spectacular illustrations, and appearances by Cilantro, Mango, Brash, and others, this newest installment in the Agents of S.U.I.T. series is sure to entertain and delight readers of all ages!
I had the pleasure of meeting John Patrick Green at an author event and he was kind enough to sign and dedicate my son's InvestiGators book and we got to take photos with Mango and Brash. This series is an automatic buy in my house and this latest book of the InvestiGators series is no exception. From scenes in the city to outer space, to the Antarctic, what better way. to nurture a love for reading than through funny stories, cool characters, and bright, vivid illustrations.
Many thanks to the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Another delightful installment in the world of the InvestiGators. My 7 year old loves the antics, humor, and artwork; I love the word play that continues to build reading skills and vocab while reading for pure pleasure. Not going to lie, I laughed out loud myself, a few times too. The badgers are a duo after my own heart (though I'm glad I'm not footing their bill!).
God, this series and its spin offs continue to just make me laugh with all its jokes! So many twists and turns and dad jokes, paired with the amazing illustration and brilliant plot and the new Agents of SUIT is gonna be a proper hit in ALL the classrooms! My kids will be so jealous that I’ve read this!
While I like this story, there's an amount that I wish that the "alt-team" arcs didn't rely on the other teams as much as has happened. Sure, teamwork is good, but it feels like they can't do "solo" missions the way the InvestiGators did in the first books. Even in Cilantro's mission, the gators* complained about the camera following THEM when it was CILANTRO'S turn! (and guess who shows up in this volume? , actually)
*I believe Brash specifically, but my memory is fuzzy, and these books tend to end up donated to the local elementary's free library because I have to share, haha...
On one hand, I get it. Younger readers especially may like a secondary character and want to see more of them and can't wait for a whole other specific book for them to return. (Also, it's Agents of S.U.I.T., not "Specifically Cilantro or Marsha and Bongo of S.U.I.T.", I guess.) On the other, if Marsha and Bongo are your faves, it's a bit aggravating to have so many others take away screen time from them.
They aren't for me, sorry. I'm not a big fan of the "rampant destruction to recover a thing valued at much less than the cost of repairs" types like Demolition Man, even though that WAS a funny movie. I even gave up after one episode of the newer Danger Mouse because they took away a lot of the charm of the original while making him destroy practically all of London (or worse, I forget).
To be fair, I like how they carried out their VERY Away Mission, which only vaguely redeems them for the destruction from their initial mission. Can't go wrong with their disguises, too!
This was also funny!
Gotta promote the merch, after all!
Anyway, recommended for fans of the series. It's a little confusing for complete newcomers, but I think it will be easier than other books to pick up in the middle, though it's preferable to read it at least after the first Agents of S.U.I.T.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This was a new addition to the InvestiGators series and followed a lot of the same principles. Very punny which seems to be the norm for these books, although I will admit that it was less forced and less overwhelming in this story. Not sure if that was because Green has fewer puns or if it's just that they were better integrated. Or that I'm getting used to this style and able to see past it to the story behind.
As always, the artwork is consistent with the previous books. So, bright, colourful, with solid lines and easy to distinguish characters. Although I suspect this is for the target age group, it helps me enormously because I have a hard time with graphic novels where the people are all drawn the same or same enough that I get them muddled.
The badgers are not my favourite characters. They just seem a little too selfish and oblivious in some ways for me to truly like them and root for them. In the first chase, I was thinking it was ridiculous how much they were basically disregarding the consequences of their chase, so I was happy to see that they got brought to task for it. But if that's my only complaint, then that's not a big deal really.
I enjoyed the little clues as to what was going on in both storylines, and I am intrigued to see what happens next.
If you liked the previous InvestiGators, this one won't disappoint. At all. And if this is the first volume you're picking up, I think it does a good job of introducing the series without requiring reading the other books.
THIS. BOOK. IS. LIFE. Just like all the previous books by J.P. Green, this is absolutely the best! This is silly, it is weird, it is hilarious, it is filled with so many laugh-out-loud and snort-out-loud moments! It reads just like all the previous InvestiGators graphic novels, it is entertaining and fast-paced, it is a real page-turner that will keep any kid glued to the pages. Drawings are consistent with the previous books, text goes hand in hand also, it is perfect. I’m absolutely sure every elementary school and middle grade age kid who gets this book will enjoy it. Also, I have a special love for books that most definitely will work as a “gateway thing” to make kids interested in reading. Give this to ANY kid who says they aren’t a fan of books, make sure they are bored enough to pick up the book and look inside it, and boom, you have a kid who wants to read more. I have seen this happen to so many kids back when I was working at school 20 years ago – and back then there was not this huge abundance of books like this one, it was really hard to find “gateway thing” books. It makes me so, so happy to see that books like this are being created, printed, sold, made available to young readers and libraries. One more thing I’d like to point out that makes InvestiGators books good and useful is the quirky language, the creative use of language and puns, the word play there. I’m sure that also is something that gets kids hooked on reading those books, and makes them interested in exploring their own use of language.
The InvestiGators series is adored in our household! They're easy to read in one sitting because you want to know what happens next! Suit's B-Team, Marsha and Bongo the badgers, solve bungalow burglaries in Bora Bora - how's that for alliteration! This series is perfect for independent readers or reading together with a parent - plenty to keep parents engaged :) Highly recommend!
My 8.5yo says "It was so funny, as usual. I liked it when GI found out that they had six-star hotel rooms and he went "Oh I thought they only went up to five..." I love all the B "bee" jokes like "what should bee do" and when Bongo said they were European, a lady said "well if you're a-peein go to a restroom" I laughed out loud!! There was also a samurai bee with a stinger sword. At the end there was a ghost that was the general inspecter... I think that's a prequel to the next book and I CAN'T WAIT!"
**I received an ebook ARC from Netgalley and the publisher. This is my honest review.**
Sons review: I loved it. It was good. It was funny. I loved Bongo and Marsha. My favorite part was the ginormous rocket. 5 stars!
Moms Review: The second book in the series built well off the plot of the first book while introducing new characters Bongo and Marsha. It was fast paced, funny, and full of action. I am really intrigued by the b-plot where we got to check in with Monocle at the farm base. I also didn't expect that villain in the main plot. Overall I felt more interested and engaged in this book than the first one, so solid 5 stars.
Overall this series has been one my kids happily read and reread. The characters are fun, the humor on point (though sometimes a little too punny for mom) and the story pulls you in on a wild ride.
My son has been a huge fan of the InvestiGators series, and we had read the prior Agents of S.U.I.T. book. I was so excited to read this with him. This book followed the "B Team" of Badgers Marsha and Bongo. It took them to a tropical island where people's electronics kept disappearing. Marsha and Bongo worked to solve the case. My son is 7 years old and loved this book! It was entertaining for me as well. I enjoy reading these with him every night before he goes to bed. This is a great book and series for anyone who has kids who enjoy graphic novels. It was simple enough for him to follow, but complex enough of a story for him to stay engaged. I would highly recommend it to any of my followers who have children. I look forward to reading any future InvestiGators or Agents of S.U.I.T. stories with my son!
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The story follows the endearing duo of Mango and Brash, two alligator investigators who are members of S.U.I.T. (Special Undercover Investigation Teams). Their latest mission involves a mysterious plot with a mischievous badger, and readers are taken on a hilarious ride as they uncover clues, solve puzzles, and navigate through witty banter and unexpected surprises.
"InvestiGators: Agents of S.U.I.T.: From Badger to Worse" is an absolute joy to read, making it an excellent choice for bedtime stories or reading sessions with family. Its clever humor and engaging storytelling will keep children eagerly flipping through the pages, and adults will appreciate the book's smart wit and hidden gems.
Excellent continuation of this InvestiGators spin off! My seven-year-old read it in one sitting, he loved the humor and the story, and has already read it again. We'll be getting a physical copy for his InvestiGators collection as soon as it is released in February, as he always comes back to the series.
Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC from NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review. Wish me luck explaining to my son that it will be a longggg time until the next book since he got to read this one months before it was out. Ha!
Read this out loud with my 7 year old daughter. We are loving this spin off series. We love that Mango and Brash make cameos in the Agents of SUIT books and even Cilantro makes a cameo. We LOVE the B-Team, Bongo and Marsha. Hilarious as usual and lots of puns and jokes and even some pop culture references that I got and flew right over my kids head. These are absolutely wonderful graphic novels for kids and adults alike. I enjoy them as much as my kiddo (maybe more so? lol) They are books we enjoy reading together, can’t wait for more!!! Definitely read these books with your kids!
With the InvestiGators off on another important mission, the B-team takes center stage in the latest installment of the InvestiGators/Agents of S.U.I.T series and they do not disappoint. Spy badger duo Marsha and Bongo are dispatched to a tropical island to solve a series of electronics burglaries. Chaos and mishaps ensue as the pair work to find the culprit. The bumbling of the B-team badgers as they investigate makes for a fun and wild ride. Full of the signature puns and colorful artwork featured in the rest of the series, From Badger to Worse! will be a big hit with InvestiGator fans.
From Badger to Worse follows super-spy Badgers Bongo and Marsha as they are sent to Bora Bora to uncover a theft ring. However, for this case they have to go old school without all the fancy gadgets and equipment as the agency is cracking down on their wasting resources. You simply will not beelieve what they uncover under the resort. This is a quick story full of delightful puns sure to give readers a good chuckle.
Thank you to @Netgalley, @JohnPatrickGreen, @ChristopherHastings, and @PatLewis for the ARC.
Book 2 in the spinoff series has Marsha and Bongo the badger agents getting sent on a mission to BoraBora that is more of an exile punishment for having crashed a jet and wrecked a bunch of spy equipment--they're the "B Team" of agents, after all, not the "A Team" of gators, and as such they spend too much agency money on gadgets and don't always do the best job of investigating. But they're adorable and hilarious! I love the puns and the pop culture references--quotes from 2001: A Space Odyssey among them! A giggle a minute.
Thank you for NetGalley, John Patrick Green, and First Second publisher for a chance to read this advanced reader copy.
My son is the biggest fan of this series and he was ecstatic to see that we had the opportunity to read it in advance. We thoroughly enjoyed this title and have already preordered our copy. As always, this book was again written cleverly and there were plenty of funny puns included. My son was a big sad he has to way until February to get these in his hands.
This was a cute book but I didn't like it as much as the invesigators stories or the first agents of suit. I find the badgers to be kind of annoying.
There is a lot of play on words in this book, as with the others in the series. Weirdly, I almost feel like Green went too far with the puns this time as it started to bother me. I'll still get this for my school library because I know my students will enjoy it.
I did not like this book. low grade humour, possibly suited for upper elementary/middle school but seriously there are so much better books out there on the market. Is it better than not reading anything? YUP. but it's not interesting. The characters were sorta developed, but mostly just did things that seemed counter-intuitive, felt very disjointed to read.
Great colour palette throughout, excellent text for reading.
A hilarious adventure with S.U.I.T.’s B-team, b for badger that is. As a fan of the original InvestiGators series, I am thrilled to get to see the other characters from the agency get some adventures of their own. Once again John Patrick Green’s delightfully punny humor is the star of the show. Bongo and Marsha are delightfully oblivious to the world around them while working the case and this leads to some of the best parts of the story. Overall a wonderful addition to the InvestiGators universe. Thank you NetGalley and First Second Books for early access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
While not quite as fun or funny as the main Investigators series, this side series is still definitely worth checking out. Full of terrible puns and silly situations, kids will eat it up just as surely as they do any of the books in the series.
I would like to thank the author, publisher, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you for the chance to read this advance copy. I am always happy to be back in the world of the InvestiGators, this time having an adventure with the B-team. This book is clever, funny and has so many good puns. This is one of my favorite graphic novel series. I've already got this one preordered.
Graphic Novel Readers meet other S.U.I.T. teams and go on adventures with them. In this book, we travel with the Badgers and see how they manage to solve both cases through ridiculous antics. We also see other agent adventures interspersed. Mid to upper elementary readers will appreciate the absurdity.
This book is full of puns, wordplay, and dad jokes. If your kids love that sort of thing, then they will love this book. It's surprisingly long for a graphic novel. Lots of beautiful colorful comic illustrations. It does feel a bit like your missing out on some of the jokes or references if you haven't read any of the previous stories.
This graphic novel was recommended to me by my seven-year-old son, who loves these books (he even recently went to a book talk/signing by Green). Am I the target audience? No, but that's okay. I can see why he likes it: it's very silly with lots of silly puns and a silly plot. Not deep but entertaining, and that's fine.
My daughter and I read this together. She absolutely loved the book and thought idly was funny and couldn’t get enough of it. As a parent reading it I wasn’t overly impressed but I’m not the target audience for this. Overall it’s a great book for younger children into silly spy books.
