The high-stakes sequel to Thieves' Gambit, for fans of Jennifer Lynn Barnes and Ally Carter.
It's been six months since the end of the Gambit. Instead of winning an impossible wish, Ross has the threat of her family’s execution hanging over her head. Devroe, the only person Ross thought she could trust, could wish the Quests into oblivion at any time. Shockingly, despite his betrayal, Devroe is still making a play for Ross’s heart as the two work together pulling jobs for the Organization. But Ross has learned her lesson: A Quest can only trust another Quest.
When Ross finds herself at the center of a power struggle within the Organization, she sees her chance to change her fortunes. As a new deadly Gambit develops for control of the criminal underworld, Ross strikes a risky deal to guarantee protection for herself and her family.
In this final clash, Ross will square off against a ruthless opponent who will stop at nothing to seize power, and in their corner will be not only Devroe but his mother, who wants to destroy the Quests at any cost.
The new Gambit takes Ross and her crew into the intoxicating casinos of Monte Carlo and across treacherous snow-covered slopes in Antarctica as Ross competes against Devroe in a fight for her life. Loyalties will be tested, backs stabbed, hearts broken. May the best thief win.

i had as much fun with this one as i did with the first book! it was just as addicting and i couldn’t put it down! i’ve come to love these characters so so much and their friendships mean everything to me :,) the ending was bittersweet for me, i loved it yet im sad to have reached the ending of this story and saying goodbye to these characters… that’s not stopping me from rereading tho which i will definitely be doing a lot!!! i could honestly say that i could read about these characters and the heists and never get tired of it!!
thank you to netgalley, the publishers, and kayvion lewis for the arc in exchange for an honest review! <3
Looking for a book that matches the vibe of 'Money Heist' and 'Now You See Me'...congratulations, here it is...🥁🥁
If I'm being very honest, this book failed to impress me as much as the first book did, maybe because of my too high expectations lol but it was still pretty good. I really enjoyed it, especially in the beginning.
It's got one side hate? (idk if that even is a trope, she hates but he is trying to win her back), a gambit between thieves and lots of plot twists. Trust me, I'm a person who can easily guess plot twists and see them coming from miles away, so this book taking me by surprise? means it's actually got something. And you NEED to try it out.
Book 1 was an absolute masterpiece. A gazillion stars to that, i don't even have words. But this one was a bit of letdown? in comparison to that. It was missing out the angst and the tension between the characters like it had in the first book. Ross and Devroe's romance was practically non-existent 😭😭 they barely interacted throughout the whole book wth. Secondly, idk it just didn't have me as hooked. I wasn't as entertained as I had hoped for. Not sure if I can actually put it into words but it simply didn't have the same charm. Which is the biggest heartbreak when it happens to your most anticipated read but nevertheless...
It was still quite an enjoyable read, so yeah, totally recommend 👍
(GO READ THE FIRST BOOK NOW!!! YOU'RE MISSING OUT ON SO MUCH GO GO GO!) I'm watching you 😤🔪

This is one of those series I would die for but is criminally so underrated. I'm so so so excited for this book!!

Yeah so this one was definitely not my fav... 😬😬 I read Thieves Gambit as a light and easy pallet cleanser last year, and if I am being totally honest, I wasn't sure I was going to end up reading Heist Royale, but here I am 😅😅 Ngl if I didn't end up adding this to my 25 books to read in 2025, I would have probably dnf'd in the first 20 pages, and whilst the plot did get more interesting, the characters however, did not 😞😞 I was so excited to see all of these characters again, and I was shocked by how annoying, boring and bland they were, especially Ross 😒😒 I did really enjoy the second heist in particular, but overall, unless you are 100% invested in this series, I would just recommend looking up spoilers for this book, and not waste your time like I did.

❥ Ross: I hate to say it, but if Ross has zero haters, I'm dead 😔✊ I loved her SO much in the first book, and idk what happened here 😖😖 She was SO annoying, her dialogue and inner thoughts made me cringe SO MUCH, and how stupid almost every decision she made was 😒😒 She grew a tiny bit on me by the end, but overall, I still really didn't like her character ☹️☹️ Also the way she treated her friends, especially at the start wasn't right either, and she did get slightly better, but that's not saying much 🙄🙄
❥ Devroe: Um so whatever? I don't particularly dislike Devroe's character or anything, but he just did nothing to me 🫤🫤 In the first book (yes I know I keep comparing them, I'M SORRY) every second line he said had me giggling or blushing, yet in this one, he had no effect on me whatsoever 🥲🥲 He could have declared his undying love to Ross in the most romantic way possible, and I would have merrily blinked 😔😔 He could have thrown himself off a cliff and I would barely flinch, that's how much I didn't care 😭😭
❥ Other Characters: So, all of the side characters were a little better, but they don't exactly have the strongest competition ☹️☹️ My fav character by far was Noelia, she was so badass, and I loved her 💪💪 (I lowkey wish she was the mc ngl 🙈🙈). I didn't mind Mylo or Taiyō, they were ok, and were cute together, but nothing special 😥😥 I feel very conflicted about Kyung-Soon, but I think I like her...? Hate both Diana and Rosilind 😤😤 sorry not sorry I didn't like Count, and I really didn't like Baron either 🙄🙄 (Have you picking up on the overarching theme yet?)
⁀➷ 𝓡𝓸𝓶𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮
❥ Ross + Devroe: Ughh I feel so conflicted 😩😩 I loved them so much in the first book, and was fully rooting for them, but now... idk so much ☹️☹️ I get what Devroe did had a big impact on Ross, but after six months she was still fully shutting him down, and acting like an *ss, only to then get back together with him 😕😕 Don't get me wrong, I did like their ending, it was very cute, but other than that it ngl felt forced imo 😭😭

Overall, this definitely wasn't my fav read ever, and whilst book one did end on a massive cliffhanger, this book still for some reason didn't seem necessary?? Anyways, if you made it this far, thank you so much for reading my hate rant, and if you loved this book, I'm so happy for you!! It just wasn't for me, which is totally ok. I would still recommend the first book if you are looking for:
✅ Fast paced and bingeable ✅ Leaves you on the edge of your seat ✅ Ya mystery ✅ Tiny romance subplot

✧₊⁺ Heist Royale by Kayvion Lewis ✧₊⁺
It's been a while since I started this duology, but I remember it being really fun 🤭🤭 Hoping that it will just be a quick, light and easy pallet cleanser 🥰🥰 I have been seeing a lot of mixed reviews about this one lately, so I'm not going in with the highest expectations, but fingers crossed it surprises me 🤞🤞 Also why don't books come with recaps 😔😔 Ngl I'm going to have to look up spoilers for the first book bc I can't remember a thing 🙈🙈
edit: I just read a full spoiler summery, and I now remember everything. Can't wait to be back in this world again 🤭🤭
Heist Royale picks up six months after Thieves' Gambit, and it was even better than the first novel! I was so excited to get back to this world full of heists!
All of the gang is back, but not in the same teams, which makes things interesting, and there are a lot more interactions going on. I appreciate that it includes some of characters we already know but gives them more depth and introduces also some new characters. I have to say that I adore the transformation Ross underwent as a person! After years of missing and longing for the world outside the island, she was able to finally experience it.
Compared to the first novel, I found this one to be much more enjoyable. The characters in this novel have more opportunities to shine and establish a connection with the reader. Without going overboard, Lewis' writing allows you to vividly visualize the setting. The heists are high-stakes, thrilling, and almost fatal events that happen in stunning and intriguing locations.
I find it difficult to say goodbye to these characters, even if Lewis gave the novel a nice conclusion. I could read about all the different heists that this group pulls off over and over again.
This book will not let you down if you enjoyed the first one. And if you enjoy heist novels and movies and haven't read the first book yet, you should absolutely check out this series!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I enjoyed the first book and was excited to see this sequel. It took place not long after the first one and was still full of angst. I felt for Devroe stuck between the girl he likes and loyalty to his mother. Ross is doing her best to keep everyone who betrayed her at bay, even her mother. Until a series of events leaves them stuck in another gambit, this one with certain death waiting for the losing team. This book was full of action and heists, romance and angst. And a revolving game of who can you trust. While the book left us in a much more solid place I wouldn’t be disappointed to see more books in this series because I would love to see Ross continue to grow and combine her amazing heist skills with the empathy she is slowly letting loose into the world.

❛ My god, it’s like the worst high school reunion ever, Noelia whispered.❜
this book was such a good conclusion to the series!! even though i enjoyed the missions and heists of the first book more, i still enjoyed the relationship between the characters shown on this book more! i would give this series a solid 4 stars; very fun plot with such interesting characters! and i love how in both books she switches locations between missions so us readers wouldn’t get bored <3 (we went from antartica to monte carlo in this book ahh!!) and what i want to praise kayvion lewis for is how she’s able to create such a cinematic reading experience omg (since i’m one of those people who see a movie playing inside of their head when reading 🤭) i must say she creates such great thrilling scenes! the fact that i can still play out a specific scene from the first book in my head when i read it like almost a year ago must say something about her writing skills 💗 if you enjoy jlb books, love ya mystery books with lots of action, adventure, and heists, this is the perfect book for you 💌
I had just as much fun with Heist Royale as I did with Thieves' Gambit, but I have to say that the first book was more to my liking, even though this one had more character development.
It was just more exciting, and I couldn't stop reading, while I was okay with putting this one down a few times before finishing it. It's still a fast read though, and perhaps a bit short for a book that's supposed to end the series.
My favourite part was the casino heist, it gave me the same feeling I got when I was reading the first book, and I wish the rest of this one followed suit.
In the romance department, nothing much has changed for me, I'm still not Devroe's biggest fan. But to be fair, he didn't have much of a chance to convince me he was the right person for Ross, because they didn't have a lot of interactions together.
A certain other side couple was adorableeeee though, all the stars for them. I'd totally read a novella about them after the scene in the casino (you know which one).
I liked the ending, I knew we were heading in that direction so it was satisfying, but it was wrapped up a bit fast. I wanted at least 50 more pages, not necessarily of the ending, just of the characters existing, hanging out, etc, if this really is the last time we'll see them.
Which I'm hoping it won't be!! Because these books are so fun and so underrated, I wish they got the same hype as some other YA heist books, because Lewis is truly a great writer. I'll be seated for whatever she writes next.
Really enjoyed this! Loved the high-stakes heist vibes and Ross was such a fun lead. A few chapters dragged a bit, but overall this was fast-paced, smart, and super entertaining. Solid 4 stars from me.
What can I even say? I still adore the first book so much more—by a lot. This one was undeniably fun, fast-paced, and packed with all the impressive moments you'd hope for. But... the ending? It felt really rushed, like not-enough-for-me rushed. That’s my only real gripe—I just wanted more. More depth, more time, more closure. After that epic cliffhanger in the first book, I was hoping for a stronger, more satisfying resolution. What happens now? Where do they go from here?
That said, the characters absolutely stole the show for me again. Their bonds, built from scratch in the first book and only growing deeper here, were just chef’s kiss. The way they came together was everything, and honestly, that alone made the experience worth it.

15-11-2024 Imagine my surprise and my squeal when the doorbell rings, and I cross the diatmce to unlock the front door, and in front of me is standing my salvation, I mean the delivery man, no no, not the delivery man but the package in his hand. I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED. LET'S GET GOINGGG.
12-11-24 IT'S OUT, IT'S OUT, IT'S OUT! My neighbor’s son is getting married today—an auspicious day, if there ever was one! Happy Devuthavavni! 🎉 The ‘dhol-nagada’ is shaking the entire neighborhood (noise pollution? Who's she?), and I’m pretty sure my neighbors thought my scream was just me out-celebrating their celebration!
When the heck is it coming? 😩 I CAN'T WAITTTTTTTTT
After recently picking up and loving Thieves’ Gambit, I was so excited to get approved for the ARC of Heist Royale and it did not disappoint at all!
With the sequel, the author expanded more on the relationships and there were just so many interesting dynamics going on. At the forefront is Ross’ complicated relationships with her mother and Devroe after their respective betrayals. While I enjoyed Devroe’s usual charming self, I’m not sure how I felt about the romance between him and Ross. I wanted a bit more grovelling from him. There was another romance going on that I honestly adored much more. In case of spoilers, I won’t name the two characters, but they were too cute and absolutely won me over.
I also loved getting to read more about the friendship between Ross, Mylo and Noelia. Their banter and chemistry was written very well. Noelia actually became my favorite character by the end of the story. I just loved her attitude and sass. When it came to our protagonist, I found Ross to still be unimpressive when it came to her thieving skills. She just didn’t seem to be able to keep up with the rest of the characters and ruined a lot of their plans. This didn’t really bother me as much though since she does admit and recognize her shortcomings.
As for the plot, it continues to be fast-paced and full of action. The twists and turns never seem to end and kept me from ever wanting to put the book down. I found the heists this time around to be even more entertaining than the first book. The ending was a bit rushed, but that didn’t bother me too much.
I’m not sure if there will be another book in the series as everything was wrapped up rather nicely. I would be happy if there was more, but if not, Heist Royale was a satisfying conclusion to the series and I’m going to miss these characters so much!
Thank you to Edelweiss for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I really enjoyed book one but this felt like a real step down. The character motivations were very odd and cheesy, the plot recycled from the first book. Alas, not a vibe.
🏦~💎~🥷~🎭~~~~𝕆𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕒𝕝𝕝: I really can't decide if I liked this better than the first book or not but I still really enjoyed it. This was really fast paced and I had a great time. I think it also helped with getting rid of that reading slump as it started to seep through. (Cant say that the slump is fully gone rn but not our topic so…)
🏦~💎~🥷~🎭~~~~ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤:
I still love how there were really diverse characters in this story and idk if I have the energy to go through them all but I love them all so much. So many of the things they did or said, the side characters in particular, left me smiling and giddy with happiness.
The main character got lots of character development as well which was so sweet bc watching her slowly grow out of the bonds that had kept her trapped was so… 🥹🥹
🏦~💎~🥷~🎭~~~~𝕍𝕚𝕓𝕖𝕤:
Hear me out ok, this is a group of teenagers doing heists with high stakes and amazing plot twists. You’ve got sneaking into balls and casinos, stealing things and breaking into places they definitely shouldn’t. It’s like, think of that one music playlist you have that makes you want to jump up and run around (probably in your room at 3am) in anticipation. Thats what this was like.

The duology was so so so so good and honestly deserves so much more recognition. The fact that its underrated makes it feel kinda special to me tbh but still- GO PUT THE FIRST BOOK ON YOUR TBR NOWWW (please) I WANNA TALK ABOUT THE BOOKS WITH SOMEONE 😭😭

Post Read: Oh god did I just finish that???? NOOOOOOOOOOOO PLEASE I WANT IT TO LAST FOREVER 😭😭😭😭😭
Anyways, rtc and yell at me in the comments if I forget 👍
tl;dr Fast-paced heists once again take center stage, with plenty of family complications stitched in.
Thoughts I thoroughly enjoyed the first book. It was packed with clever heists, compelling characters, and a fun competition. But I've found that the book after a competition plot tends to fall flat for me. So how does Heist Royale fare? It runs another competition! And honestly, it absolutely works. The gang's all back, although not necessarily in the same configuration, which keeps things fresh, and there's a lot more going on in terms of relationships. Romance, friendship, and family tangles all come into play as characters race across the globe trying to out-steal each other. It's a fast-paced adventure with all the adrenaline of the first, and plenty more character development for everyone. As with the first book, the friendship between Ross and Noelia hit for me more than the romance with Devroe, but there's also a cute secondary romance that I did not see coming. There's also a casino heist in the middle that could practically be a book unto itself, with a new character who I love probably too much. If you liked the first book, this one won't disappoint.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group for an advance copy. All thoughts in this review are my own!
I loved Thieves’ Gambit and was eagerly awaiting Heist Royale, but sadly it fell pretty flat for me.
The story picks up 6 months after the end of book 1 and I probably should have refreshed my memories before diving into this one. The author doesn’t really use any page time rehashing what occurred in book 1, which made me feel a bit disconnected from the characters. The pacing was also very slow in the beginning and really didn’t pick up until another gambit begins (around a third of the way in). Even with this new gambit, all of the mystery, excitement, and high stakes from book 1 were missing. The second chance romance felt very forced between Devroe and Ross and honestly, I’m not sure how she got past his betrayal in book 1. The ending was also pretty anticlimactic and didn’t leave me feeling 100% satisfied with where our characters ended up.
Jade Wheeler did a great job with the narration and I’m not sure I would have continued reading this if I didn’t have the audio.
I loved Thieve's Gambit and was really anticipating this sequel, but I felt like this one fell flat for me. It's still fun and fast-paced, but because it focused so much on the ongoing conflict between the two main characters, it lacked the engaging elements that was present in the first book, such as the intense competition, well-planned heists, high stakes, and a clear end goal. The resolution of the conflict also felt too predictable and obvious.
That being said, I still enjoyed the characters and the dynamics between each of them. The heists were still fun, especially the second one, which felt more in line with what I loved about the first book. I also really enjoyed the tension between Ross and Devroe at the beginning. She really made him grovel, and I loved that.
Thieves’ Gambit was a fun read for me and so was this one! It had the same action from start to finish with several different settings from Brazil to New Orleans Mardi Gras to Antarctica to Monte Carlo to Tokyo to South Africa.
It’s got the same Ocean’s Eleven heist vibes as they go through another gambit of stealing valuable things. I think it’s called Heist Royale because a large chunk of it takes place at a casino where they have to cheat the system to earn a certain amount of victor chips. So it also has the movie ‘21’ vibes as well.
“Two hundred square feet of booze, luck, loss, and temptation… secrets, hidden currency, and danger.”
Even though it’s technically a life or death competition situation, this is still a pretty light, easy-going read. There’s fighting and some shooting, but most of the violence is more in threat form than anything else. The romance factor (you know… Ross’s “ex-crush-turned-almost-murderer”) is also fairly minimal as the focus of the book is the heist action. Some reviewers would have preferred more romance or character growth interactions, but I was here for the action so I was happy with the way the book was written.
To give you the basic plot: Heist Royale takes up 6 months after the first book where Devroe won a wish— a wish his mother wants him to use to have the Quest family ‘erased.’ Devroe and Ross are both committed to a year of working jobs with the Organization. But the Organization is in disarray as the Count’s leadership is in question and another member wants to overthrow her.
The squabble turns into a competition. A three phase gambit: “Whoever won got to lead. Whoever won got to live.” Ross and her friends end up picking sides: the Count or the usurper, Baron. The real conflict, though, is the beef between Ross’s mom (Rhiannon) and Devroe’s mom (Diane). Rhiannon won the Gambit back in her day and instead of using it to get Diane’s husband medical care, she used it for something else and Devroe’s dad ended up dying. Diane now wants to get her revenge.
Who will win the gambit? Who will survive?
As I mentioned with the first book, there is suspension of reality in a book like this, and that includes the ability of 18-year-olds to be calm, cool, collected, (and witty) while their very lives hang in the balance. Where they have to act the part flawlessly. We just have to be okay with them being smart, funny, heroes at a young age.
However, I would LOVE to point out a very realistic part of the story where pre-heist Ross does the most obvious thing with her hair: “I’d pulled my braids into an efficient ponytail.” It’s one of my pet peeves when people with long hair go do fighting and competition stuff with their hair flying all over the place— nope. Ross truly understands the realistic need for a ponytail and I’m here for it all day.
The first book did seem to have more character interactions because Ross was developing friendships for the first time and learning how or if she could trust others. In Heist Royale, the friendships have largely already been established. There is still an element of learning to trust, but there isn’t as much ‘getting to know one another’ type of scenes. And Devroe and Ross don’t have a lot of ‘screen-time’ together since they’re working on opposing teams… and because Ross hates Devroe at the moment:
“Devroe is a playboy traitor who might have enough empathy to back out on family genocide, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was manipulating us throughout the entire Gambit and now he’s just holding this wish over my head and for all we know he’s already well aware what his mom’s been up to.”
The romance side of things is Devroe trying to win Ross back and Ross going from hating him (although we know it’s not a true hate but more of a rebellious hate) to wishing things could work out between them. It’s the forbidden love because their moms want to off each other.
There also is a small romance between Mylo and Taiyo because of course we need to have that.
Let’s just say I could probably have done without all the ‘melting’ commentary.
The other character relationship at work is between Ross and her mom. She still hasn’t (understandably) forgiven her mom for her part in the first book. Her mother’s reputation is ‘ruthless efficiency’ whereas Ross has a heart and is not willing to betray her people to get what she wants.
But she can’t deny the usefulness of her mother’s reputation:
“I guess when word gets around about you betraying best friends, manipulating your daughter into death games, and letting your own sister get kidnapped in exchange for half a billion dollars, people decide they don’t want to screw with you.”
Ross still struggles with wanting to be like her mom and become the best. She’s conflicted between thoughts about what her mom would do or think in a particular situation and what to do when they bump into her own moral boundaries.
“Trust over viciousness. Loyalty over lies. Maybe that route could be just as effective as Mom’s.”
Recommendation
It very much fits the YA genre because teens love to read about other teens doing awesome, heroic things and putting their friendships as priority number one and also flirting while their lives are in danger. Checks out.
As an adult, I can put my youth face on and read these kind of books and still enjoy them. And sometimes it’s really nice to get all the action packed suspense without the dark violence, f-words, or romance scenes you’d rather not be a part of.
So yeah, I would recommend this book for sure for teens, but even for adults. And definitely if you like heist plots and stealing competitions.
It seems like this might be a duology, but if there does end up being a third one, I’d read it for sure. Good writing, fun plots. I’ll be keeping this author on my radar!
[Content Advisory: 15 d-words, 3 b-words; no sexual content other than kissing; two somewhat prominent LGBTQ characters]

As a follow-up to the first book, this book surpassed every expectation I had. And then some!
This book picks up where book one left off. Forced to work beside the guy who betrayed her, Ross will not be crossed a second time. But things aren’t always that easy. It’s all on the line this time. Ross needs to win to secure her spot at the top but also to save herself and her whole family.
This book has the same fast-pace with even better cons and lots more action. You won’t be able to put it down. I loved how the other characters came back - they’re the best cast of characters!
I’m sad to see this was the last book. This is my most favorite duology ever! Your heart will pound and your hands will sweat - you can literally feel these con scenes. Which is a testament to this authors writing. Simply amazing!
I can’t stress enough how much fun this book was.
And that ending? Puuuurfect! 😉
This duology I couldn’t recommend more! They’d also make for a great gift to a younger reader but can fully be enjoyed by anyone.
