I am a tea lover so I loved all the information in the front of this book. I was interested to find out what is the finest tea. I then ordered some OP tea and it is amazing. The recipes are a special bonus.

I am a huge fan of Downton Abbey. This season was so good and ended on such a happy note I decided to host a Downton tea party out on the lawn with for my daughters and granddaughters. We'll dress up, serve little sandwiches, cakes and scones--and maybe play some parlor games. I picked this book to read because it is written by an Englishwoman, Elizabeth Fellow who loves the English tradition of tea time. She is doing her part to revive this tradition (I didn't know it was failing--but I live across the pond so what do I know?). Ms. Fellow gives a brief history of the tradition, as well as a guide to proper tea etiquette and what to serve. She includes recipes that are named after the characters of Downton (I love that), but since it is an e book there are no luscious pictures that should be part of any good cook book. There is an interactive table of contents though. I am a little intimidated as some of the recipes are not cooking procedures I am familiar with. But I am not afraid to learn.

This is a nice, short offering that would benefit greatly from an editor and a page layout designer. Fellow includes some fabulous tidbits about tea time in early 20th century England, including both a brief overview of how tea time got started and some facts that are unique to the time and location. The recipes included are a nice range from easy to time consuming, covering the three staples of tea time: sandwiches, scones, and dessert.

However. The layout of the pages is wildly wasteful on space and design. It would be nice to see some photographs of the delicious recipes included. There are a sprinkling of grammatical errors throughout. Recipes also occasionally miss vital information or are arranged in a way that would make baking these treats an exercise in frustration. It's obvious that this was either an html document or ebook first (the stylized hyperlinks are still visible) and the text needs to be rearranged a bit to make it more user-friendly.

Definitely a choice for fans of tea time and its history; some, but not as much here for Downton Abbey fans.

This is a slim book but Ms. Fellow's did a nice job filling it with relevant information. A quick history about the practice of afternoon tea with some interesting recipes. I didn't make any of the recipes so I can't speak to how well they work, but she has the basics covered (scones & jam) as well as some more unusual sandwich recipes. The book also has some nice pastry tips and recipes but I require pictures to be successful at pastry and there are none. All in a nice collection of, some true to the Downton time period, recipes. It's the kind of book that may or may not prove useful but would make a great gift for an anglophile friend. Enjoy this book with an Assam and a scone spread with lemon curd!

Just what I needed .....

In honor of the end (sob) of Downton Abbey, and my new found life and friends in Florida, l am planning a Downton Abbey tea and have been searching for inspiration. While I probably won't tackle most of these luscious recipes, the tips in this book will help me find modern replacements

I haven't tried any of the recipes yet.

The beginning of the book is about English Tea and how the custom started, why it has died away. Contained some interesting information.

While I enjoyed this little book, I would not have acquired it if it hadn't been a kindle freebie at Amazon.

A short and concise view of Afternoon Tea. I wish there had been more recipes and pictures of the settings would have been a bonus.
