Unfortunately this was the first book in the Death Lands series I could get in epub, which kind of sucked since it's the second book in a trilogy. Still, it was good to return to the series after being away for so long. (having constantly read the series as a child)
This novel contains very little in the way of the norm for the Death Lands series. The crabs were interesting and unique, but almost seemed excessive. The interplay of politics with the infected baron was interesting to watch as it played out, keeping me engaged where the usual adventures of Ryan and crew would have lost its luster quickly.
Overall, this is your standard Death Lands novel. Adventure, action, and the usual cast of characters with the same ol' blasters. Veteran readers can expect the usual, and if you are new to the series, I would recommend starting somewhere back at the beginning of the series.
