Presents four tales of terror in the spirit of the original EC Comics series, including the tale of a young man whose online multiplayer role-playing game life turns into an obsession that blurs the virtual and the real, with horrific consequences.
Pretty lame... Cheesy stories with dumb endings. I guess after watching such movies as BORDELLO OF BLOOD and RITUAL, I had forgotten that TALES FROM THE CRYPT could be targeted towards kids. This comic contains a lot of ads for HARDY BOYS and NANCY DREW, so I'm probably WAY too old to be reading it.
Well, this is another Tales from the Crypt volume, and here's what I thought of each story:
EXTRA LIFE by Neil Kleid features a very bored and confused guy called Andy, or Evenblade. When his real and online world collide, things don't turn out well...
This story is a short and seemingly straightforward tale introduced by the Crypt-Keeper. I say seemingly because nothing about Andy's life is as it seems. Or as he thinks.
THE QUEEN OF THE VAMPIRES by Marc Bilgrey features Tanith and Sybil, two close friends whose friendship deteriorates after one wins a contest to meet their favourite author...
This story is introduced by the Old Witch, because the Crypt-Keeper is playing an Ogre game. As much as I like vampires and stories about creepy writers, I found this one totally ridiculous. 🫤
GRAVEYARD SHIFT AT THE TWILIGHT GARDENS by Rob Vollmar is introduced by the Vault-Keeper, and is SO BAD that I won't even bother saying much about it. Except for this: it's an incoherent, boring mess that supposedly ties into the previous story. 🙄
KID TESTED, MOTHER APPROVED by Jared Gniewek features Jimmy, a kid who doesn't eat his cereal and this decision has a monstrous effect on him...
This story is once again introduced by the Crypt-Keeper and isn't too bad. Not great, either.
These stories were all different, but I didn't really enjoy any of them.
A few of months ago, I read Vol. 2 , and it was okay. But this volume was not up to my expectations-which were already low- as the stories were kind of lame, and the art was not good enough.
A lot of reviews are 1-2 stars. Like, dude; you KNOW what Tales from the Crypt are about!! Seriously?? Do not pick these up looking for stellar plot, deep meanings and shit. This is just pure entertainment with immature humor.
I remember watching some of these stories with my children when they were growing up. I just remember them as being weird, nothing scary about them, just them being odd and them giving me something to think about. I saw this title at the library and thought it might be fun to read and it was. Inside I found four short graphic novel stories, where one of them was just not for me, one of them made me laugh and the other two, well I rather enjoyed them.
The first story is The Crypt of Terror. This story is about a teen who is obsessed with his computer games. I thought this one was rather good as I could relate to the craziness that surrounded Andy a.k.a. Evenblade. Killing ogres, winning gold, and hanging around with lots of individuals, Evenblade was the man! Andy spends more time online being Evenblade then living in the real world. His online world mixes with his real world and soon he is paying the consequences.
In Queen of the Vampires, this story was fun. Small town college campus and two female roommates are discussing their favorite novel. They discover that this author is having a contest, the winner will get to spend an evening with her in her mansion. Of course, one of them has to win, she is their favorite author! The other roommate is jealous as the winner is announced and is determined to be the winner. I had to wonder who really was the winner when I finished reading this one.
I didn’t care for Reading Graveyard Shift at the Twilight Gardens. I didn’t like how the story was progressing as I read. The main characters is starting a new job which he thought would be a breeze but there are just too many temptations in his way. He knows he has to stay clean but it’s so hard! His boss is all over him, do this and do that and the pressure is mounting. I just didn’t like this one at all.
The Kid Tested Mother Approved was funny. I really enjoyed this one. You know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so they say. So, when Jimmy’s mother forgets to buy milk, Jimmy decides to skip breakfast. He hasn’t skipped eating these tasty balls of chocolate his entire life! What is he doing? He is hounded about a well-balanced breakfast, he is told to eat his cereal dry, she chases him with the cereal, and she even calls the principal and has him talk to him about it. Jimmy is about to make a huge mistake! Big laughs for me as I continued with this story and I bet it will be the last time Jimmy forgets.
Back to the crypt! I think the previous issue had slightly better plots, but I still enjoyed the stories of this collection. The cheesy writing and the sketchy art are just so... Zombielicious!
I picked this up for the one at home who wasn't awaiting Mockingjay. It may be too scary, what with the crypt keeper and all, but I loved horror comics as a child so I thought I'd take a chance on it. We'll see.

She's enjoying the short story format, I think. Last night she let me read the first two stories, while she re-read them over my shoulder. The twists are predictable if you've read many horror comics, but are still unexpected to some. I really like the character of Victoria Price, the writer with the giant creepy house who writes about vampires.

I spent Halloween morning on the sofa with the PandaBat reading horror stories. Life is rarely so perfect.
Yes, I did it. I read a book out of chronological order! Someone lock me up and take away the damn key. I think with stories like this, there is no order, I certainly didn't see any connections, so I'm not worried, but I'll admit it was hard to do it.
This was interesting enough but certainly for juvenile, sadistic children. I mean why do things like this exist? Well, I give it one thing, these are fun stories, and slightly if not very disturbing. If Stephen King had his way with these, a whole new generation could be insomniatic.
I still enjoyed it, but the sub plot was cheesy and unoriginal. Just weird really.
This is one of a series of graphic novels featuring using the EC comics approach. There are several stories. One concerns a guy who becomes totally obsessed with an online frp game, and how that changes his actual reality. A second concerns a woman who is a fan of a female writer and ends up killing a friend just to meet the woman, which turns out to be a major mistake.
One story is about a greedy worker at a hospital. Another is about a kid that changes into a monster if he doesn't eat his breakfast.
These are well done stories, and there's quite interesting, also.
I enjoyed vols 1 & 2 of Papercutz' Tales From the Crypt gns enough, but this collection is a different story. This book is a mess. But I'll give vol. 4 a chance when it hits. Maybe this was a fluke. Or maybe the title "Zombielicious" gave me way too much excitement.
