Yuri Drewes, the grand magus who initially summoned Sei and Aira to this world, has awakened from his coma and now wants to perform an Appraisal upon both of them. Sei is less than thrilled - despite her saint-level display of powers in the previous volume, she still hopes to live a quiet and relatively anonymous life.

Although the results are inconclusive (sort of), several things are now coming to a head. From the start, Prince Kyle never even acknowledged Sei's existence, much less her possible status as the Saint. Since then, Aira's abilities have grown at an amazing rate, but she hasn't done nearly as much that might indicate that she's the Saint as Sei has. Also, while Yuri technically hasn't confirmed that Sei is the Saint, her abilities have intrigued him, and he's not the kind of person to let interesting new magic pass him by. One way or another, Sei will have to further explore her Holy Magic, even if she isn't yet ready to admit that she's the Saint.

I'll start by saying that this wasn't a good book. However, I enjoyed it anyway. It just makes me cry a little, thinking about how much better it could have been.

From the start, this has read like a wish fulfillment sort of series. Sei was an exhausted office worker who rarely had time to relax. She was summoned to a new world in which she was snubbed by the prince for not being as cute as Aira, a teenager, but then everyone else practically fell over themselves to make her happy, arranging work for her that she enjoyed and shielding her from anyone or anything that might bother her or make her uncomfortable. Everyone she encountered (except Prince Kyle) loved her, and she easily adjusted to being in this new world. Albert, a polite and handsome knight, behaved warmly towards her even though he was normally cold to other women.

Like many other current light novel series, the author doesn't bother too much with descriptions, is overly reliant on summarizing events rather than showing them, and doesn't spend much time considering how her characters would react if they were real people. I found some of this more noticeable in this volume than in the first one, probably because I just watched the anime a week ago. While the anime definitely had its problems, there were several things it did better than the novels.

One specific thing that stood out to me was Aira's reaction to finding out that she'd likely never see her parents again. In the anime, tears began streaming down her face and then she broke into sobs. Prince Kyle, shocked into remembering that he was dealing with an actual human being, rushed to her side and tried to comfort her. She cried herself to sleep that night. It provided an excellent foundation for Prince Kyle's later behavior, as he did everything he could to ensure that Aira could be happy in his world and find a place for herself.

By contrast, in the book Aira cried a single tear. This so moved Prince Kyle that it provided the motivation for all his later actions. He was a much better character in the anime, and it was disappointing to see how badly Tachibana bungled things with him. Then there was Aira - the single tear thing was stupid, but I did like the way Tachibana presented Aira as a weak person who was used to others (first her parents, and then Prince Kyle and his friends) making her decisions for her. I thought she might turn out to be even more interesting in the book than in the anime - a storyline about her personal growth in this new world would have been fun. Instead, Tachibana did absolutely nothing with any of that. It was incredibly frustrating.

Speaking of things Tachibana didn't follow through on: Sei and Albert's romance. They had some great scenes in the first book, and I happen to know from the anime that Sei's feelings for Albert will prove to be an important part of the story. Too bad that Albert's such a cardboard character in the books, and barely even present in this one. Tachibana should have spent more of this book fleshing him out and creating a stronger foundation for their romance and, instead, readers got a dancing scene and Albert briefly escorting Sei, and that was pretty much it. I hate to say this, but Albert is as bland as any of the interchangeable cute girls with a single quirk found in your average harem romance series.

The writing was repetitive, sometimes telling readers information that had just been stated one paragraph prior. Also, Tachibana can't write action scenes well at all, so I'm hoping there are fewer of those in future volumes. This was quick and easy reading, and there weren't any sentences that were so badly written I had to pause to figure out what they meant, but I still can't honestly say this was well-written.

And yet I enjoyed this anyway and am looking forward to reading the next book. It's light and low-stress reading - nothing truly bad ever happens and, for now at least, the wish fulfillment aspects work for me. We'll see how long it can manage to hold my interest.

Extras:

Three full-color illustrations (the cover image, the back cover image, and a character page featuring Albert, Erhart, Sei, and Yuri), black and white illustrations throughout, and a 5-page afterword by the author. The afterword made me wince a bit - it laid out Tachibana's thought processes and reasoning for the book's different Acts, and it was clear that she'd hoped to get the story to a particular point (for example, a more solid romance between Sei and Albert) but wasn't able to manage it.

Had to finish this before I got further in the anime - if I had to guess the anime will finish this volume (as of ep 8, we were only one chapter from the end of the book) as the season will only be 12 eps and I can see the aftermath of the Western Forest event taking an episode, the events with the King taking one or two and then the final tea party taking an ep.

Anyhow - everything ramps up in this volume as the pieces are set for Sei to no longer hide at the Research Institute (how she thought she could...)

I have to say that reading this in conjunction with watching the anime has been fun. While there are asides in novel, they focus on the "men" of Sei's life trying to keep her life simple and quiet. The anime devoted an entire EPISODE to showing us what its been like for Aira as well as numerous scenes of Prince Kyle being a bit more...sympathetic. Sort of. His reasoning for being an ass in the anime makes a lot of sense and even makes him seem much cleverer then he appears, which we don't see in the novel.

The novel however excels at getting across Sei's resourceful and quick thinking. We're in Sei's head for the most part so we see her draw the connections and hear her dry commentary about everything going on.

We also get a little bit of romantic push between her and Albert? Even the author acknowledges she wanted more lovey-dovey closeness but the book didn't allow for it (so instead we get more! mwaha)

Drewes (Yuri) is hella scary though so if he could tone it back...slightly... I'd be grateful. So would Sei.

In all looking forward to the next adventure Sei finds herself in!

Easy to go down, but doesn’t stick enough in my memory. Ended up rereading parts of vol 1 to follow up things mentioned in vol 2. The introduction of Yuri really helped move the story along and I do enjoy reading it that I will probably stick around but moving to digital only. The author sets up a lot of things but doesn’t always follow up with it.

Enjoying the series, and now I'm beyond where the manga has brought me, so it'll all be new from here on out. (I got 3 and 4 for Christmas, and yesterday I was talking about the books with my dad, so he Amazon primed me book 5. LOL)

It's very enjoyable. The story is fun and Sei is still a massive Mary Sue, and there isn't a lot of overt tension. I dislike Yuri Drewes because he's annoying, but that's not a criticism of the story--I think he's supposed to be annoying. I wouldn't say the writing is artful, but it doesn't have to be. It's just a lot of fun, and I read the book in a couple of sittings.

3.5. It's the same sort of fluffy pleasant read as the first book, but Aira and Kyle just felt a bit flat to read. Or maybe glossed over, maybe? But Yuri, the Grand Magus, is so fun to read. Overall it's a tad weaker because it's less focused than the first book, but it's a nice read still.

I’ve just finished reading the second volume of *The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotence*, and I have to say it’s a clear step up from the first volume. According to the afterword, Yuka Tachibana made several changes from the web novel version to improve the structure and content, and it definitely shows. The timeline of events feels more cohesive: the story picks up right after Sei performs a mass healing at the hospital, and while Yuri, the Order Master, can’t definitively prove she’s the Saint, the suspicion continues to grow. By the end of the book, it’s confirmed, which fulfills Sei’s fear that her life will change drastically—though this shift ultimately stems from her own decision to proactively help those around her. In doing so, she’s already begun to fulfill the role of the Saint even before it’s officially acknowledged.

The biggest improvement, especially in the first four novel-exclusive chapters, is how much better we can track Sei’s character development. This is largely due to her dynamic with Yuri. He’s introduced as a highly intelligent character with a deep knowledge of magic, but even he doesn’t fully understand the phenomena surrounding Sei’s holy magic, which glows gold compared to typical healing magic. Meanwhile, Sei has the magic within her but doesn’t yet know how to control or understand it. This creates an interesting interplay between them throughout the book. Sei has to learn how to control her powers from Yuri, but she also helps him develop theories about her unique abilities. Unlike in the first volume, where Sei just used mana and got great results every time, this time she has to actively train and refine her skills. However, this process doesn’t diminish her importance, as she contributes to Yuri’s research along the way.

There are still moments where ideas are introduced without being fully explained (for example, there’s a part where Sei is said to apply herbs “this way and that,” but it’s never clarified what exactly that means, leaving us uncertain about what she actually did). But compared to the first volume, the narrative takes more time to explain her attempts and struggles, showing us where she has trouble, what alternatives she tries, and why she ultimately succeeds or fails.

One thing I found interesting in the afterword was the mention that the series is intended to be a romance. This was previously hinted at, but could have easily remained a subplot. As a result, the political landscape, Sei’s journey to master her holy powers, and action sequences like monster hunting are more like vehicles to support the love story. This becomes clearer in the fifth chapter, where the budding romance between Sei and Commander Albert Hawke starts to take shape. Sei’s holy magic activates twice—once when she thinks of Albert thanking her, which makes her heart feel warm, and again when Albert is attacked by a monster. This subtly highlights Albert’s special connection to Sei amid the "beautiful men" in her orbit and suggests that her Saint powers are tied to her emotions, specifically her feelings for Albert, something that will likely be explored further in future volumes.

Tachibana reflects in the afterword on whether the pacing of the book might feel drawn out, and while I think the overall structure is sound and necessary, the storytelling still feels a bit slow at times. There’s a tendency to casually repeat semi-important information (especially regarding Aira), and large sections are written in prose that doesn’t always feel dynamic or lively. There’s a lack of non-verbal cues or body language to bring scenes to life, and although this volume does improve in that regard compared to the first, it still feels a bit monotonous. As a result, despite the book’s brevity, it can feel like a bit of a slog to get through.

On the positive side, Aira’s storyline finally gets some attention, and we start to see things from her perspective. Giving her a focal chapter was a good move, though it would’ve been more impactful if it had been narrated from her actual point of view rather than through an omniscient third person. Still, her conflict—where her normal behavior from Japan is seen as inappropriate by her classmates because of their engagement customs—was well done. We also see her grow from being passive under Kyle’s influence to standing up for herself, finding real friends, and becoming more confident, largely due to her friendships with Liz and Sei. It would have been nice to see more of the steps in her development, but overall, it was a solid arc.

In short, this second volume is a definite improvement over the first, though there’s still room for growth in the storytelling department.

I like the series, and the novels flesh details out so much better than the manga or anime. The complaint I would have is when Sei seems to have forgotten certain things she’s already concluded (“I wonder what the infinity sign by holy magic could mean?” Uh…that you’re the Saint, which you’re already pretty sure you are? I mean, I think that’s what it says in your stats?). Or saying “probably” no one has higher holy magic than her (harder to get higher than infinity…). She’s trying to hide her abilities, while at the same time not hiding her crazy MP levels and enhanced potions - she doesn’t know what is “normal” so this isn’t working out for her.

I think those things are only added to make it seem as if there’s any mystery over whether she is the saint. It doesn’t actually make any sense to do that from the reader’s perspective, and honestly makes me feel like they are very slow as they continue to debate which of the two summoned people are the Saint despite the overwhelming evidence that it is Sei. I’ve noticed that in light novels the characters often are a bit simpleminded, which I attribute to inexperienced/clumsy writing. For example, Sei meets the king and realizes that his looks and name must mean he’s part of the royal family, and notes that he is very similar looking to *that person* (aka Kyle) but is absolutely shocked to discover that he is Kyle’s dad, the king. Or being surprised at the reaction of the knight whose arm she casually regrew…

The mystery of Sei’s miraculous powers comes to a head in this volume.

I’m enjoying reading how Sei comes to grips with her Sainthood while dealing with the hopes and expectations from those around her. There’s a big payoff at the end. Sei remains grounded throughout.

I didn’t like the resolution with the other Saint. Apparently, fans in Japan influenced the author to soften her fate. Palace intrigue and a war of succession during the final conflict with the miasma in the deep forest sounds pretty exciting. Too bad the story shied away from that topic and chose a more sedate resolution. The ultimate conflict was nothing more than an angry argument in the hallway, leading to the king to arrive, shuffle off the players to a room, and resolve everything off page. Fortunately, the conflict with miasma was very exciting. There was a believable sense of danger so when the Saint stepped in to save the day, the resolution felt satisfying.

I hadn't planned to read this one so soon after the first. It's not fair to say I had nothing else to read, but I kind of bought it for that reason. I'm actually glad I did.

Volume 2 progresses through Sei being acknowledged as the Saint. The situation with Aira is resolved. We get a bit of real action, though the overall nature of the story is social. Sei learns the horror of corsetry. There's a lot less messing around with game stats, which was something I found jarring in the first volume. Generally, I found this book more enjoyable than the first one.

Interestingly, I've found that light novels seem to suffer from a sharp drop-off in quality after the first book. Not necessarily the plot or characterisation, but the quality of writing seems to slide off into amateurish. That was not the case here. Maybe it'll go downhill after this, but the writing was as good as in the first volume. I have higher hopes than I might have had.

This one is still as lighthearted as the first book, though now we're getting properly into the whole "Who is the saint?" thing. There were times when Sei's apparent obliviousness (over her status as said saint and of certain romantic moments) were a bit annoying, though some of it was her being willfully blind on purpose (and if there's a reason, I hope it gets explored at some point). I like how the conflict between Sei and the other Saint + the prince was settled; although the other girl was pretty bland as a character, I could kind of understand her motivation for going along with the prince's whims, even if I thought she was also wimpy for never asserting herself in the slightest. This volume also has more action in it, what with Sei finally being able to use her saint powers, even if she is barely able to understand the how or why. It's great seeing such a powerful character still struggle to do things~

Once again, the light novel allows for some details added in that were not clear in the manga version of the story and covers a lot more ground as we're now somewhere in volume 5 of the manga with this only being the 2nd installment of the light novel. It's also really funny to see Sei continue to think of Al's brother as Lord Smarty-Glasses and we get a lot more of her internal dialogue as she attempts to navigate this world. All in all, she really does adjust far quicker and easier than Aira does. We also get a bit more on Aira's story back home with her family, which makes it even clearer why she was so docile and allowed everyone else to make the calls for her until the confrontation in the corridor when the king himself is forced to step in. Fortunately, she seems to be coming out of her shell now that she has Liz and Sei to rely on instead of a group of boys who put her on a pedestal, so hopefully things will turn around for the better for all of the main characters here.

I did watch the anime for this series which bring us to the end of volume 3. So reading this didn’t provide me with as many new developments as I was hoping it would. I actually think most scenes were adapted much better than they were written in the novel. That being said this volume was just OK for me, I read it quickly and we are getting more into the world building and character traits. We are pretty much waiting for them to start going on their adventure. A big plus for reading the light novel for me is that we get to see actual stats for characters and more of the magic system in this world than we get to see in the anime.

I mostly found only half of the chapters interesting and the other half to be boring as well. The side characters that get page time here really fall flat and the conflict they had wasn’t relevant imo.

Finally made my way through the second volume. I did a re-read of volume 1 then jumped directly into this one. I feel largely the same about the series so far. It’s a very comforting read for me and just all around cozy. If you enjoyed the first volume you will likely enjoy this one as well since it follows a similar structure and continues the slice of life style narrative.

The new characters introduced and previous characters being expanded upon really worked for me and I’m glad to see everything progressing.

I will be continuing the series but I’ve realized that this series falls under my “break in case of emergency” book so I’ll get to volume 3 when the glass needs to be broken. All around still really loving this series

Waiting on the next book

I like the way that the story is going, was happy to see the prince get his. It would be nice to see Aira be with the second prince. Be nice to see how the relationship between Liz and the first prince go. It was good to see Sei use her power to protect Albert. I am glad that she is coming into her own and that she has feeling for Albert, waiting for them to becomes a couple. Liked it when he would not let the prince touch her. Hopefully when she goes to the outland area that she goes with the third knight order. Also good to see she keeps her job with the researchers.

3.5/5

I don’t want to be overly negative about this book. I do like the world, the setting and the plot is interesting too.
However, the writing is what lets it down I think. Sei is a 25 year old woman and yet from the writing it makes her sound like a teenager. This does take away from how interesting the concept and plot is.

Overall though, it was an enjoyable read and I do really like Sei’s character, although I feel like the characters need more depth and development in order for me to continue the series.

I did like the expedition, but it felt like I had been waiting for the whole book for something action related to happen.

While I am still interested in the further adventures of Sei and her budding relationship with the flirty knight captain (and the several other uniformly hot men around her at all times), the plot continues to be pretty sparse, and the prose dry. Though this is ostensibly about a kingdom in danger, the way Sei effortlessly navigates through every problem presented to her lends to a story that feels lacking in stakes or danger. It's still very good at delivering feel-good fluff, but I can't help but wish there were more substance at this point.

I like this series. The characters are great.

This book introduces the Grand Mage, and he's a pistol.
The relationship between Sei and her BF is put on a back burner, but it's still there.
Now that Sei is officially the Saint, I'm guessing book 3 will deal more with the monster threat?
Maybe we will find out why Sei and Aria were summoned?
I wonder if Sei is the Saint, and Aria is supposed to be a bodyguard or helper?
I will be looking forward to the next book.

Still a fun and light read. This novel felt a little less substantial in terms of the story than the previous novel. Some of the chapters that were written specifically for the light novel publication (as explained in the author's afterward) were my least favorite parts because they were boring and didn't add much to the story, but they weren't awful. Just another pleasant and breezy light novel read.

In this volume,

- Sei goes on her first expedition
- Sei's and Albert's romance is developing nicely
- Sei starts to explore giving blessings to herbs
- Sei is acknowledged as the Saint
- We're given a glimpse into how Aira's life in the new world has been
- Aira's finally able to make choices for herself!

It was a great read! And the manga does a great job of adapting the light novel too, so I didn't feel like I was missing out on any nuances!

This is a fun series. An interesting universe were the Saint and her powers will help them against the monsters and other problems. Sei is of Japanese origin and her upbringing has made her shy. This has kept her from asserting herself as the Saint. She feels the title will be a burden for her.
It's a great story. One that mixes fantasy, magic and other things.
I look forward to reading the series.

As much as I liked this story I had to take a Star off. The writing was a bit repetitive. Some facts were shared too many times. And also I really thought there would be more of Sei and Albert but they hardly had any special moments together and I didn’t really feel like she had fallen for him. That was disappointing. Hopefully in volume 3 there is some progress in their relationship and the author doesn’t repeat the same information over and over!

As often happens with second of series..

Quality down a bit though still better than most light novel series. Author comments at the end spotted flaws better than I could. I think Kyle's punishment should have been even lighter and Aria was a bit dense not to realize other girls had valid complaints. Kyle's toadies might be a political problem.

After several months unconscious, the Grand Magus, Yuri, has finally woken up. Sei's attempt to disguise the fact that she's probably the Saint won't last long with him on the case. But as her powers start to affect more and more, Sei still tries to hold on to some control over her own life.

Yuri is by far my favorite character in the series. He's incredibly smart, a powerful mage, and an even bigger research nut than Sei. Magic is his life. If the topic involves magic, especially new, mysterious magic (like the Saint's) he's all over it. He's also a battle maniac, which is hilarious. I mean, if you want to get stronger in this world, you have to kill monsters, so in order to do more magic he ended up going out alone to hunt them.

Sei is wary of being involved with someone like Yuri, but he knows the limits well enough that he's never actually a threat to her. Instead, this is a time where she can use his vast knowledge to start building up her own.

Although she's still pretty clueless about a certain Captain's romantic overtures.

Overall, this ties up many of the plot threads from the first volume, and in some ways feels like the other half to the book. I rate this book Recommended.

Loved

Couldn't put this down! Even though I'm still annoyed how dumb the prince seems to be like really how arrogant I loved the relationship Sei has with everyone. I can't wait to read more on how she grows more in the next books. Here's hoping the next book comes out quickly.

More please

A very cute and easy read, just what you need when being coped up for so long. I found it funny that Sri was so easily embarrassed but was also glad see wasn't a pushover. Looking forward to the next book.

Good stuff

I'm a sucker for these kinds of stories. It's very similar to a slice of life anime. It's very slow but builds up a humble protagonist who is actually pretty over powered. Yes it's a power fantasy isekai but sometimes that's what you want.
