I’m continuing my re-read for the 2025 read-along of the Innkeeper Chronicles via the Dramatized Adaptations by GraphicAudio.
=====
Sweep with Me is a novella in the Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews

This was a fun novella. The Andrews team packed, so much into this short story.

I loved seeing Diana and Sean again. Dina is upset, sad, and worried about something big, but the Inn is never quiet and some big things happened that take her mind off of all those worries. In the end Diana takes care of all her guests in true Innkeeper fashion and solidifies her standing with the Innkeeper Assembly.

Sweep with Me packs a punch. There is no shortage of creativity, action, emotions, and fun!

Our profession was old. By chance, Earth sat on the crossroads of warp points and dimensional gateways, a convenient waypoint on the way elsewhere. We were the Atlanta airport of the galaxy.

The Gertrude Hunt Inn will always be a favourite literary character of mine as well as a favourite fantasy (a house that self-cleans and -decorates and -stores ... oh yess, pretty, pretty please!!!!).

Add Dina and Sean and Orro and Caldenia to the mix with all the Galaxies and Baha Char and I am perfectly happy.

As a novella, it is not a strong as the full novels, but it transferred me to one of my happy places, so it gets the full 5 stars. Also, the all-cast Graphic Audio production is great.

Also, experiencing Orro's epic battle against and defeat by cheap hamburger was hilarious.

The perfect diversion for a Friday evening when you're not feeling up to scratch. I've really enjoyed these full cast productions. This is the shortest book of the Innkeeper Chronicles, so it was easily consumed in a single evening. Exactly what I was looking for.

I have read this series so many times that it's embarrassing. (I know that GR clocks this as the 3rd time, but I'm not always honest with my re-reading on the platform. Shocking, I know.) The last few years have required special measures in order to stay happy and centred.

Loved listening to the Graphic Audio version with a great familiar cast who caught the holiday tone and the usual intrigue that happens at Gertrude Hunt for Dina and the gang. Stellar voice acting, music, and sound effects.

After the amazing grand finale events in One Fell Sweep, I wanted more. I love the world of the series, the cast of characters, and yes that low buzz of a romance for the Innkeeper and the werewolf. So, this novella was welcome.

Sweep with Me carries on during the events off world in book four and is part of a series that must be read in order.

Dina and Sean prepare for Treaty Stay, the biggest holiday on the Innkeeper calendar. Gorgeous decorations, generous food, but above all, the Inn hospitality is wide open and no guest can be refused. With a mysterious and reclusive powerful alien leader and her entourage, a large contingency of debating space chickens, and a pilgrim from a killer race, Dina and Sean have their hands full.

Sean is so new to his chosen place at Dina's side as an Innkeeper and she is still recovering from the hardship of losing that baby Inn and the rest of the catastrophic events in One Fell Sweep that her confidence in bringing it all off is shaken. But, each of her friends, Sean, and Gertrude Hunt itself teach Dina that she is not on her own and it can all be done when they work together and she learns to rely on and trust them and herself.

Sweep With Me was a lovely standalone interlude in the series. I loved seeing Dina and Sean continue to gel as a couple and a new pair who have very different skills and ways of doing things trying to work together. Orro has his own culinary crisis that was fun and Caldenia and Officer Marais are as entertaining as ever. Those who have not tried this series and love a mesh of urban fantasy and sci-fi really must give it a go.

Re-read started September 8, 2025, finished September 9, 2025.
======

I’m continuing my re-read of the Innkeeper Chronicles via the dramatized adaptations by GraphicAudio with Sweep with Me, the fifth title, a novella set during the same time as book 4, Sweep of the Blade. I originally read and reviewed the ebook back in 2020, and my review can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

This review will focus on the graphic audiobook aspect of the book.

While Maud is off world with Arland meeting House Krahr, Dina prepares the inn for Treaty Stay, an important Innkeeper holiday. Sean is now fully committed to Dina and the Innkeeper life. Sweep with Me returns to storytelling via Dina’s first person POV and once again features Nora Achrati as the solitary narrator. Ms. Achrati excels as Dina, using a solid southern accent and adding plenty of emotion into her performance. After listening to the series, she has become Dina for me, and I don’t know if I’d like anyone else playing her part. She’s captured Dina’s sensitivity, hope, and frustration perfectly.

Each character’s dialogue is performed by a different cast member - just like a play or TV production. Much of the cast is familiar as the story returns to Gertrude Hunt. I continue to enjoy the performances, especially from Scott McCormick as Orro and Karen Novack as Caldenia Ka Ret Magren. Overall, the cast is well-suited to their characters, and the performances are full of energy and emotion.

As in the past, I enjoyed the added music and most of the sound effects. With this being a shorter story and the fifth time I’ve listed to the dramatized adaptation, I found the added sounds and features to just be part of the story, without interrupting the flow.

In the end, I really enjoyed the Dramatized Adaptation version of Sweep with Me and hope the production team at Graphic Audio puts together the adaptation of the most recent story, Sweep of the Heart, soon!

My Audiobook Rating: A- (performance only)

Cute novella, where Dina and Sean have to host a treaty anniversary at Gertrude Hunt. We get to see other aliens of this fantasy universe. And Dina is in her Element.
It was a quick fun read. And I need to start saving up, because I need the graphicAudio and ebooks of this series!!!

I was expecting a heartwarming holiday novella featuring Dina, Shaun, and all the inn residents. What I got was another epic adventure at my favorite space station. Was I a little sad I didn't get a Christmas tale, Yes, but did the magical battle at the Inn make up for it, Hell Yeah it did! Let's not forget the major bonus of listening to it in Graphic Audio. I can't say enough good things about Graphic Audio books, they're the Gold Standard of audiobooks, I just wish they would do a RH series!

This novella was jam-packed!! The signature world-building and humor were on point. As always, new alien species were introduced, and I loved how many we met—including philosophical chickens 😂😂 While Dina and Sean worked to recover from the fallout of the events of One Fell Sweep, their relationship continued to flourish and I just loved the two of them together. The various journeys the guests of the inn undergo were relatable and also such wonderful teaching moments. Some of our favorite recurring characters made appearances, and I especially loved Orro’s attempts at replicating a fast food burger and the cooking show incident. The celebration of the Treaty Stay holiday was beautiful and added a lightness to the story. Though a lot happened in this novella, it was a respite from the intensity of the last two novels.

The GraphicAudio was amazing!! The full cast was so fun and I loved the aliens’ voices. The music and sound effects were entertaining and added extra layers to the story.

I just love these books so much and can’t wait for the next one!!

A quick and fun read for the fans of this series. You get to spend some more time at the inn with Dina, Sean and Orro, and I loved every minute of it. Especially any scene where Orro was involved.

Basic Plot: The Treaty Stay is an important Innkeeper holiday that brings some new and unusual guests to Gertrude Hunt.

I do not know how I managed to not review this the first time I read it, so I guess I'll get on that now.

This was only a novella, so much shorter than the usual offerings from this series. Here we see Dina and Sean figuring out how to work together to run the inn and its unusual clientele. We get to meet yet more new species from the widening universe and meet some new characters. Dina also deals with some of the aftermath of the previous book, and her residual anxiety from losing the infant inn. As always, House Andrews provides heart, humor, and action in equal measure. My only complaint is that is was over far too soon.

The Graphic Audio adaptation of the book's full cast makes it very worthwhile. I loved the actor for First Scholar Thek, and the actor for Orro continues to be my favorite. I'm going to be sad when I run out of Graphic Audio adaptations of Ilona Andrews novels. I do plan to see if any other series I like have other adaptations available. I've been listening to all of these for free via Hoopla, through my local library. It is a glorious program.

Spoiler warning! This is the fifth story in the Innkeeper Chronicles series, and this review may contain spoilers for previous installments. If you want to start at the beginning, Clean Sweep is the first book.

For Innkeepers, the biggest and most sacred holiday of the year is the Treaty Stay, which commemorates the ancient treaty between the first Inns, their intergalactic guests, and the agreement to keep humans safe and completely unaware of the presence of alien visits to Earth. During a Treaty Stay, Inns have to open the doors to anyone who seeks lodging, which is how Dina and Sean, who have only barely managed to recover from the last very dramatic events at Gertrude Hunt, find themselves preparing to host not only a large flock of philosophically minded and argumentative space chickens (no, really) but an extremely powerful and notoriously difficult to please space warlord, who has some sort of important meeting she needs to attend to on Earth.

Orro, Dina's neurotic perfectionist of a chef drives himself nearly mad trying to produce the food request that the warlord has asked for as her first meal. He's also gotten himself addicted to fast-paced reality cooking shows. Sean is having fun upgrading the inn's defenses, which is urgently needed, considering the ruthless businessman that their alien guest is meeting with keeps trying to send mercenaries to break into the inn. Dina still feels a bit lost and out of touch with her Inn after the near-death experience she's still recovering from. She worries that she won't have the full control and power she requires to see to the safety and well being of all of her guests during the Treaty Stay.

This was a holiday novella that Ilona and Gordon (the writing team that make up Ilona Andrews), as always first released in free installments on their website and then published for fans to buy. It made my Christmas and New Year's holidays a happier place to be, certainly.

I love how, even in a fairly short story, the authors manage to balance humour, romance, friendship and the importance of family (Caldenia and Orro's presence at the inn is clearly a given for Dina, and I suspect she considers them family just as much as Maud, Helen and now Arland), with suspense and action. As always, there were laugh out loud bits, and there were some action sequences that would make your jaw drop if you saw them play out on a movie screen.

These are bonus stories that IA generously bestow on their fans, in between writing their other ongoing series, and I've come to really enjoy the extended cast and the strange little fantasy/sci-fi blend they contain. I don't want to become complacent and take these books for granted, but I hope the authors continue to occasionally release new installments, especially now that they've teased us with the possibility of Klaus, the elusive, missing Demille brother.

Judging a book by its cover: The covers for the Innkeeper Chronicles continue to be among the best that Ilona Andrews have for their books, probably because they pay someone to make them, so they have full creative control. While I think Sean looks uncharacteristically pouty, I like Dina's powerful stance and her sweeping (see what I did there) robe, as well as the festive (and plot appropriate) lanterns in the background.

2/22/24 reread

Another amazing reread with the graphic audio. I highly recommend these audiobooks. It was very amusing hearing chicken noises for the koo-ko. I am going to need to find more graphic audiobooks because they really bring a series to life, especially urban fantasy books.

Series: Innkeeper Chronicles #4.5
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

Every winter Innkeepers celebrate their own holiday, Treaty Stay, which honors the ancient treaty that united the inns and established the rules to protect them, their guests, and Earth. Dina has her hands full this holiday though with dangerous guests.

This novella takes place shortly after the third book, One Fell Sweep. I am so glad we get more of Dina and Sean again!. Dina is struggling to deal with the trauma of the seeding dying and it is affecting her ability to connect with Gertrude Hunt. She has to juggle dangerous guests, the holiday, and learn to cope with that trauma. I love how the guests helped her in small ways to get back to normal. They may be guests, some permanent, but they have become Dina’s new family.

I love that we get Dina and Sean learning to work together to run the inn and take care of the guest. They both have different approaches but they work well together. Their different strengths make them a great team and they will be prepared for almost anything.

I loved the new aliens in this one. The Drífan were fascinating and very deadly, the koo-ko were hilariously smart chickens, and the Medamoth sounded fascinating and I wish we had learned more about them. But my favorite part was Orro! He has been my favorite since he was introduced and I love him. He needs his own cooking show!

I love this world and the unique aliens within it. I really hope we get another book because I can’t get enough of this story.

Funny and full of action

To say that I laughed with this one is an understatement. Space chickens!!! What's not to laugh when there are space chickens? And they delivered the funnies.

As with the rest of the series, this one also features a lot of action, but also some insight into a beloved side character, which made me understand him to a whole new level, and love that character more if that was possible.

Of course, Dina has a lot on her plate with the Assembly meeting looming over her head, but that doesn't stop her from taking some new visitors apart from the space chickens, and working with Sean to make everyone's stay comfortable and, it seams, memorable.

Another terrific one!

Sweep with Me Dramatized Adaptation (Innkeeper Chronicles, #4.5) by Ilona Andrews 2024 relisten:

Original reviews on the "regular" edition page:
2023 Graphic Audio version "re-listen": Not much to add but I agree with Sean--Space chickens! *gigglesnort* Will definitely listen to the final book once it is available with the full cast.

2023 relisten: This is a fun one.

Original review: This is a short little exclmation point to add to the series. Dina and Sean are settling in to each other and Gertrude Hunt Inn. On a holiday of great import to the Innkeepers, they are faced with a disparate group of guests who are nothing if not a challenge. Despite lingering doubts caused by events in a previous book, Dina accepts the test of her abilities. Entertaining, lively, and true to the series. I do hope there will be more adventures sooner than later. 5 magical ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Don't let the short run-time fool you, there's a lot packed into this novella! Peace treaty negotiations, neighborhood sex scandals, philosophizing space chickens, alien moth men, family drama, and an operetta in two acts about the quest to make the perfect fast food burger and the disillusionment of meeting one's heroes -- all performed to perfection with a full cast, music, and sound effects.

I may be biased since IA are my among my favorite authors, but it's a comfort knowing I'll always have a good time reading their books. The humor is dry and unexpected, the world-building is creative and fresh, and the characters are full-bodied and substantial. I've read entire series with characters who have less dimension than a side character in an IA novella has. Masters, I tell ya.

Laughed out loud multiple times.

This is the first time I have listened to a dramatized adaptation. I really enjoyed the different voice actors for the different characters and it really made the dialogue so funny. On the other hand I found some of the background noised and music distracting, making it a little harder to concentrate on the storyline.

This was a fun, quick and enjoyable novella. I really enjoyed this series and was happy when I found out there were more books out. The characters are loveable and I really enjoy the alien aspect given to supernatural beings. It is a great blend of sci-fi and fantasy.

It seems although I own this is several formats I have not read it after the initial online serial. So this was my first time with audio. I chose the Graphic Audio version.

I love Sweep With Me as I love every Ilona Andrews book. It is sort of a transitional book. Sean is just adjusting to being home and becoming an Innkeeper with Dina. Everyone is working through their insecurities about Dina nearly dying after trying to save a baby inn. Dina has her own grief from it.

With Treaty Day, guests can not be refused. A violent species has requested a stay. A family of 61 wants to come and debate their family dispute. It's amazing Dina can know and handle all the different customs and manners for the different species.

Sean is restocking their weapons. Dina is preparing the rooms which is tiring as she and the Inn are not in sync. Orro has discovered cooking shows and is challenged by trying to create a fast food meal. Caldenia has tapped in to all the neighborhood gossip.

I love all the varied guests and their issues. The unfolding of all the morality and compassion is expert world building. Dina has to keep them alive and watch Sean as he is new to the issues. He is a little fast and loose with the rules. Dina is amazing. I loved all the guests at the final dinner.

I was able to listen at 1.7x speed.

Beautifully written and acted, as are all the books in this dramatized adaptation series. I prefer the full-length books; this one didn't feel as well-rounded/complete as the first four volumes of the Innkeeper Chronicles. I think this author duo shines at their brightest when they have time to fully tell the story, and they manage to do it without ever getting repetitive or boring -- with the exception of the first 10-20% of book 4, which almost had me quit the series because I thought the rest of it was going to consist of re-heated leftovers. But I'm glad I didn't!

An engaging novella that brings us back to Dina, Sean and their inn back in Texas. Dina's meeting with the Innkeeper Assembly has been postponed due to a unique set of visitors for Treatise Day which contain immense magical power. Joining them are also a warrior on pilgrimage and a bunch of debating (ahem) philosophical chickens. Will Dina be able to avoid disaster and keep the inn in one piece?

Another fun tale in the Innkeeper Chronicles that had me laughing out loud.

As always, Ilona Andrews leads the urban fantasy genre over almost every other author. Yep, I am opinionated about excellent writing -- all parts of it. Now with the GraphicAudio full cast treatment another wonderful experience occurs. The incredibly creative alien worlds and characters, dialogue, plotting, every small nuance of all of the above shines. A treat to enjoy over and over again.

The growth of the relationship between Dina and Sean is very central in this book. With their new decision to be together, and Sean becoming an innkeeper, it is full of trials and emotions while they figure things out. There is upheaval and danger with every new set of special guests. I just really enjoy this world so much. The different races and the universal politics are so unique and engaging.
