After finally reaching the Southern Kingdom, Skye soon realizes it isn’t the nirvana she always dreamt it would be. Through a series of events, Skye must face the Queen of the Eastern Kingdom once again and discover for herself what the true difference is between a harvester and a human.
Once upon a time, a little girl was born on a cold winter morning in the heart of Seoul, Korea. She was brought to America by her parents and raised in the Deep South where the words ma'am and y'all became an integrated part of her lexicon. She wrote her first novel at the age of eight and continued writing on and off during her teenage years. In college she studied biology and chemistry and finally combined the two by earning a master's degree in biochemistry. After that she moved to Yankee land where she lived for four years working in a laboratory at Cornell University. Homesickness and snow aversion forced her back South where she lives in the land which spawned Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey, John Grisham and B.B. King. After finding her Prince Charming, she gave birth to a wondrous gift named Caylin and they all lived happily ever after.
The second book to the Harvester of Light trilogy will be available for purchase no later than December 2012.
Hope is book 2 in the Harvester of Light series. In this book, Skye finds herself under the evil influence of her biological mother, the Queen. The Queen succeeds in turning Skye into a harvester devoid of human emotion. As a harvester, Skye is desensitized to the horrors of the harvester camp which are grim and cruel. She also finds herself in complete allegiance and devotion to the Queen at the expense of all those she formally loved; Jace, Zoe, and Ian. The Queen uses AI to impregnate Zoe with triplets, the father being Ian, in hope of creating babies with a multitude of superpowers. Although humanity tries to creep into Skye's psyche, Zoe's pregnancy and the birth of the triplets awakens the human in Skye, especially Hope, the baby with a birth defect. This causes Skye to renew her fight against the queen and restores her integrity.
I did like this book, but I wasn't as excited about it as I was the first. At times, the superpowers aspect was a little over the top for me. The time traveling and appearance of Ian, Simon and Rose from the future was a bit unbelievable, especially when Ian brings back supplies for the babies from the future...please! I found Skye's narrative as a harvester interesting and the diabolical, twisted actions of the Queen towards humans in the harvester camp was riveting. I also appreciated a glimpse into the Queen's childhood and troubled upbringing, even if there could never, ever be an excuse for her evil ways.
Although I didn't love this book, I'm still invested in the series and I'm starting book 3 immediately.
This book is the perfect complement to Harvester. It is full of unexpected twists and provides a lot of information that I feel will be important in Dawn, the third book of the trilogy. West delivers this information in a plausible and interesting way.
The first third of the book progresses at a fast pace with lots of action. It is also during this segment that Skye realizes some inconvenient truths. There is a lot of shock and awe here.
The second third of the book is the critical information gleaning stage. It includes shocking, heart aching decisions. Also, it is difficult to see just how cruel some people can be. It is also encouraging to see how unconditional love can be.
The final third of the book provides a lot of character development for Skye, and delivers Hope, and makes me cry… a lot. Grab some tissues and this book. It is truly a great read.
Heroine, Sky and her friend and fellow soldier, Jace, find that they're true emotional and physical love and zest for life will never die.
Book 2, continues with their raw, fast paced, post apocalyptic lives, fighting for each other and the future of our planet.
Sky, Jace and their clutch of extended family ... fall ... are tortured ... and run for their lives from the evillest bitch who ever lived and destroyed the world, Queen Lucinda (or Lucena).
Book 2 doesn't disappoint, continuing Book 1's, magnificence and with 31 flavors of, "WHOA"!
I'm pumped and ready with Book 3, HOPE, by S.J. West.
THE HARVESTER OF LIGHT TRILOGY, is a gift to readers everywhere.
This book is totally mind blowing! Just when you think it can't get any better it does. I was hesitant to start this series but have found that I can't put the series down. I have read books 1 and 2 in under 48 hours, thank God it's the weekend! S J West is a master at weaving a good story, this series isn't just a love story it's a tale of saving mankind from those who want to play god and we all know that is never a good thing. I can't wait to see how everything unfolds. Happy reading!
I did not know what to expect with this series but it has been an emotional unexpected turns and twists in book 2. We have Skye being captured by her biological mother, Queen. We have unexpected kidnappings, growth spurts, pregnancy, good and bad alliances with twists and betrayals, sadly a lot of deaths. Will finalize the trilogy tomorrow in book 3 to see what the future holds.
Don't forget about some steamy scenes in this book :)
After Skye is separated from Jace once she makes it to the southern kingdom and is reunited with Ash all is calm and peaceful that is until the queen gets board and decides to take Skye for herself. The queen is Skye's mother and has plans to turn her into the thing she hates most, a Harvester. After the capture of Skye, Ash, and Zoe the queen impregnates Zoe for experimental purposes. It is up to Skye to save the babies and her family in her new Harvester state.
Hope is the second book in the Harvesters of Light series and it continues the story of Skye. The reason I read this book is because of it's author who also wrote the Watchers Trilogy, Watchers Chronicles, Caylin's story and the Redemption series. I so love the authors writing style and the way she can engulf you into the story and characters. This series is well worth the read as is everything Sandy writes.
After finally reaching the Southern Kingdom is reunited with Ash and someone who she never thought she would see again. It isn't happily ever after though as Skye will do anything to get Jace back from the Queen. But something then happens to Skye her worst nightmare. It isn't all bad news for Skye and her friends as something happens to Zoe which makes Skye come back to her kinda normal self all because of Hope. Jace meanwhile doesn't give up on Skye no matter what.
I'm so pleased to see this author progress into one worth reading their work. I truly like this series and found it very hard to put down. I have read 8 of the books now and find it easy to recommend this particular series. The characters are interesting and the plot is very good as it develops. I am definitely anxious to read the final book in this series.
I loved this series. I have to admit that I wasn't expecting Skye's role in this book (Hope), but it was a great twist. I'm not one for spoilers so I won't tell anything, but I will say that it brought some tears to me eyes. Definitely a great read.
I have really enjoyed reading these books. This one was a bit slower than the first and Skye annoyed me a bit, but I still liked it. I'm excited to see how the story ends.
At the end of hope, Skye's best friend gave her life to save the world because she has a power that is like a shealed to protect part of the world for many year so that skye can kill the queen witch is also her "mother".
Well damn, this book was even better than the last one and dammit I hate Lucena Day so much! Poor Zoe and ash couldn't have their happy ending... I think and to quote deadpool: all these timelines are confusing! But I hope everything turns out well in the next book
This is an excellent continuation of the first book. Lots of character growth and struggle. The plot twists and keeps the reader guessing. A must read!
