Wow, this volume really upped the ante from the previous one! We got more lore, more horror, and more mysteries and I ate every little bit of it up. This is one of those series that after I read it, my brain starts analyzing it, but then I have to go back and reread certain parts to make sure my analysis makes sense, rinse and repeat. There's just so much to think about and chew on, from the overarching mystery of the house itself, to the Shadows themselves as well as their relationships with their Living Dolls, to themes of identity and worth and what these literal children are willing to do to find both, there's so much that's overwhelming but fun. No joke I've been writing essays in my head discussing the themes discussed as well as how the art and paneling highlight said themes.
Anyways, enough rambling, this was a great second volume and I can't wait to read more.

This series continues to give all the mystery, suspense, and even horror with the very subtle, yet creepy imagery while being surprisingly light-hearted and an exploration of relationships and one's identity. I can't wait to see where this series will go and see how it will continue to surpass my expectations.

The second volume in this delightful series! We have a sootproblem and see what happens when soot starts living and takes over a puppet/human, Kate is discovering her powers, the debut is coming up and in the last chapters of this volume is there and things are getting exciting, we meet new characters and I was just crying to see Rum again, ah yes Ricky before/around the debut he was so punchable then, I love how things get a bit darker and how you see that not everything is so good at Shadows House as you may think.

If the first volume moved more slowly than the anime, the second moves a bit more quickly, ending with the start of the Debut arc and introducing Robe-sama. This is another case where hindsight is 20/20, and seeing how Somato lays the groundwork for what's to come is fascinating. (And Edward still sucks.) Definitely recommended, especially if you've seen the anime.

Toujours sympathique. Le décor , les dessins sont toujours plaisant. On en apprend un peu plus sur l'univers des shadows. Assez intriguant, on est tenue en haleine et on a envie d'en savoir plus !

Les couvertures ont de suite attirés mon regard. Je les trouve si belles! Et puis je dois dire que lorsqu’on les regarde de plus près c’est hyper intriguant! Je dois avouer aussi que je les trouve absolument mignonne comme tout! En me penchant sur le résumé, j’ai vraiment été intrigué comme pas possible par ce manga! Il nous met l’eau à la bouche et nous promet un excellent moment pendant la lecture Et bien, je peux vous confirmer que ces deux premiers tomes donnent clairement le tondu manga et nous donne clairement envie d’avoir la série entière sous la main!
C’est une ambiance particulière que l’on retrouve ici. Mais une ambiance qui m’a énormément plu! On va se retrouver au coeur d’un manoir, le manoir des Shadows. Les Shadows sont des personnes sans visages qui dégagent de la suie. Ils ont donc des poupées vivantes qui vont leur servir de visage, elles devront retranscrire les émotions de leurs maîtres etc, mais aussi effectuer le ménage. Etant donné que les Shadows dégagent énormément de suie, les poupées sont constamment obligé d’effectuer le ménage.
Si dans le premier tome on va surtout suivre Mademoiselle Kate et Emilico. On découvre la vie des poupées vivantes en même temps qu’Emilico qui vient tout juste de commencer son travail. On découvre donc en quoi consistes sa mission. Et il faut avouer que l’univers est tout de même particulier. J’ai beaucoup aimé le personnage d’Emilico d’ailleurs. Elle a du mal a respecter les règles, ce qui met très souvent sa maîtresse en colère. Mais elle est très touchante, elle est persuadé qu’elle est une poupée defecteusue et qu’elle va donc finir à la poubelle. J’ai vraiment beaucoup aimé son personnage. Celui de Kate également, on le voit qu’elle tient énormément à Emilico mais, evidemment, ne le montre pas.
Dans le deuxième tome on va découvrir pas mal d’autres poupées vivantes. Certaines sont très gentilles, d’autres sont peu commode et certaines je ne sais même pas trop quoi en penser. J’ai beaucoup aimé Lum et Shawn. Lum m’a beaucoup touchée et je dois dire qu’elle m’a même d’ailleurs beaucoup fait de peine. Elle se sent nulle et défectueuse, mais elle va trouver en Emilico, une amie qui va tout faire pour l’aide à la sortir d’une mauvaise passe, quitte à prendre des risques! Shawn est très plaisant également comme personnage, j’ai hâte d’en découvrir plus sur toutes ces poupées.
Les Shadows m’ont mise extrêmement mal à l’aise! Le fait de ne voir qu’une tâche noire sans visage m’ai vraiment mise très mal à l’aise. C’était vraiment très perturbant d’être face à ça pendant tout le long du manga. Enfin je ne sais pas vous mais mois en tout cas ils m’ont fait cet effet là! Ce fut vraiment très perturbant. Mais malgré cette gêne, je trouve le monde des Shadows relativement intéressant à suivre. J’espère qu’on en apprendra bien plus sur eux dans la suite de cette série.
En tout cas, il me tarde de découvrir la suite des événements. Emilico et Kates arriveront-elles leur exhibition? Qui était l’ombre à la cape? J’ai tan de questions qui restent en suspens! He amado varios arcos de este manga. Me gusta que hayan aparecido más personajes y que se haya profundizado más, también me ha gustado que hayan mostrado un poco de la relación entre los muñecos y sus dueños, y se haya profundizado más sobre la señorita Kate.

Una serie gotica dai toni molto oscuri e dai messaggi tanto misteriosi quanto inquietanti.
La storia narra della vita di Emilico, una bambola vivente che deve servire costantemente la sua nobile ombra chiamata Kate Shadow, considerata tale perché completamente ricoperta da fuliggine autoprodotto e richiamata in base al proprio stato d’animo. Il compito di queste bambole, risiede nel pulire costantemente l’alloggio dei loro padroni dalla polvere nera e istruirsi insieme alla figura nobile, imparando ogni sfumatura del carattere e flebile espressione. Kate Shadow è una delle regali figure che necessitano di una bambola vivente per mostrare ogni singola espressione facciale e proiettandosi verso questi oggetti realizzati appositamente per sembrare la copia esatta. Emilico è una bambina molto spigliata, sempre pronta a fare del bene, estremamente maldestra ma tanto cara alla giovane Shadow che non manca di rimproverarla quando serve.
Questo castello nasconde tanti oscuri segreti che vengono svelati, in parte, nei primi volumi della serie. Divorata in un soffio, imparate a conoscere la gerarchia primaria e il ruolo molteplice delle bambole, e soprattutto il fatidico giorno del debutto dove verrà ufficializzato il vero volto del nobile. Capiamo fin da subito che qualcosa non torna e le bambole sembrano guidate da un volere troppo affabile nei confronti dei loro padrone, senza un minimo di “volere” personale ma prettamente dedicato ad accontentare il capriccio altrui. Tanti piccoli servi. Ebbene sì, il castello di Shadow è composto da diverse persone che verranno mostrate nel corso della serie, imparando a capire di chi veramente fidarci.
Mi sono molto legata a questa storia, perché mi ricorda la simbiosi che tutti noi ricolleghiamo a Peter Pan e proiettandoci esattamente all’opposto del concetto da noi giovincelli appreso. L’ombra, in questa serie, è la parte primaria che possiede un cervello pensante al punto da “ordinare” e “comandare” il corpo delle bambole, nate ed istruite per seguire l’ombra e non viceversa. Il concetto in sé, ha complito subito il mio palato affine alle storie strane. Lo stesso “auto-chiamarsi” è una peculiarità del libro perché le nobili ombre tendono a parlare come se fossero spettatori di sé stessi e richiamando l’attenzione con gesti pretenziosi ed evidenti. Tranne nel caso di Kate, tutti i componenti sono particolarmente estrosi e dall’obbiettivo chiaro e trasparente.
La cosa che noterete subito, è la continua ripetizione del ruolo delle bambole, cose se l’autore cercasse di creare una “cantilena” dentro alla nostra testa e far passare il lettore dalla parte delle creature senza cuore. Marionette nelle mani regali. Questo clima, verrà ampliato dal tono deciso e tetro che prenderà piede nella storia, ammortizzato dalla dolce pulizia delle bambole, sempre vivaci e allegre di esaudire tutti i desideri e ligi al proprio lavoro.
Ogni singolo volume, possiede la sovracopertina e alcune pagine a colori, che giustificano il prezzo piuttosto alto per un manga. Troverete all’interno una carta fisica che rappresenta una immagine di quel determinato volume e situazione. Un manga molto ammaliante e ipnotico, dai costanti colpi di scena dal 3 volume in poi, e dalla sotto-trama che non vedo l’ora di scoprire. Alcune tavole rimangono particolarmente impresse e credo proprio di aver intuito che esiste anche la versione anima con sottotitoli in italiano. Veramente consigliato per chi desidera qualcosa di diverso.

August 23, 2021Pierwszy tomik serii zawierał dość mocno enigmatyczną fabułę, która pozostawiała czytelnika z wieloma pytaniami. Cała pierwsza część głównie skupiała się na dwójce bohaterów, panience Kate Shadow oraz jej służącej Emilico, oraz relacjach panujących pomiędzy nimi. Dopiero pod sam koniec mangi, autor pokazał odrobinę szerszą scenę akcji.
Część druga od samego początku stawia na bardziej obszerną fabułę. Tomik skupia się mocniej na funkcjonowaniu całej rezydencji, ale również o wiele lepiej pokazuje inne „żywe lalki” oraz ich misję służenia arystokratycznej rodzinie. Najważniejszą postacią jest tutaj wspomniana już Emilico i to dzięki niej czytelnik ma okazję odkryć zasady panujące w rezydencji, poznać hierarchię „lalek” oraz zanurzyć się w niebywale wyjątkowej atmosferze, która ciągle skrywa przed odbiorcą masę różnych tajemnic. Punktem kulminacyjnym jest tutaj dzień „debiutu”, który może zaważyć na przyszłości nie tylko panienki Kate, ale również jej „służącej”.
Pomimo tego, że tomik nie jest tak mocno „tajemniczy” jak początek historii, to nadal mamy tutaj do czynienia z masą niejednoznacznej treści, która potrafi być mocno wciągająca. Shadows House to seria, którą naprawdę trudno jest zaszufladkować w jednej konkretnej kategorii. Tytuł łączy bowiem elementy dramatu, okruchów życia, komedii z dawką psychologicznych treści i niesamowitym klimatem, którego nie powstydziłby się niejeden horror. Kontrast pomiędzy urokliwymi postaciami i niebywale sugestywnym „mrokiem” jest tak groteskowy i zachwycający, że trudno jest nie dać się tutaj porwać historii.
Sam klimat to jedno, ogromną zaletą tytułu jest również postać Emilico. Ma ona problemy z przestrzeganiem pewnych „zasad” i często bywa niezdarna. Przez to cały czas obawia się tego, że może być nieprzydatna dla swojej pani. Strach skrywa ona jednak pod szerokim uśmiechem i niebywale pozytywnym nastawieniem. Kontrastuje to mocno z innymi „lalkami”, które z założenia powinny być pozbawione własnych emocji i stanowić idealne odbicie swoich właścicieli.

Coagle Troubles
Before saying anything about this book there is at least one moment of abuse between a resident shadow and their face (the human looking dolls.) Regardless of the face asking for the abuse to help her grow it can still be a bit traumatic for some to watch the limited striking as she faces the wall with a gag in her mouth to keep her cries from spilling out. Honestly their are some dark elements coming out in the story already and if not for the ever positive and passionate Emilico I fear the story would be much darker sooner.
Starting out like we are reading from Emilico's diary we get an idea of the characters we are going to meet in the upcoming chapter and in full color making for quite a nice guide to the ever growing cast of shadows and faces we meet as the mysteries of the Shadow House are revealed a bit at a time. With the Miss Kate and Emilico's debut coming up in the future Emilico learns more about what it takes to be a face to the shadows who rule as royalty within the manor. When a bit of soot gaining limited sentience starts trouble the dolls spring to action showing how each is capable of handling dangerous situations as their lives are potentially put on the line. Then to discover why the soot creature called a Coagle was formed in the first place some of the faces are put on extra duty (I imagine as a sort of punishment) leading to more mysteries of the house to be exposed while new mysteries come to the light.
I still question whether the boys and girls acting as faces are actually dolls based on the shadow they are assigned to or if perhaps the shadows are not a result of the humans (and not really dolls) tat are trapped within the manor devoid of memories of their previous lives. Only time will tell as we haven't even seen any of the really important shadows yet, or have we? :)

With the Miss Kate and Emilico's debut coming up in the future Emilico learns more about what it takes to be a face to the shadows who rule as royalty within the manor. When a bit of soot gaining limited sentience starts trouble the dolls spring to action showing how each is capable of handling dangerous situations as their lives are potentially put on the line. Then to discover why the soot creature called a Coagle was formed in the first place some of the faces are put on extra duty (I imagine as a sort of punishment) leading to more mysteries of the house to be exposed while new mysteries come to the light.
I still question whether the boys and girls acting as faces are actually dolls based on the shadow they are assigned to or if perhaps the shadows are not a result of the humans (and not really dolls) tat are trapped within the manor devoid of memories of their previous lives. Only time will tell as we haven't even seen any of the really important shadows yet, or have we? :)

This volume gave me a lot of that world-building I wanted! Introducing the complex mechanisms of the world while still leaving a lot of good questions unanswered that can be covered later. This reminds me a lot of The Promised Neverland with its dark themes and a situation in which these children (the Living Dolls) are not free to leave and live their own lives.
It’s fascinating how different the Dolls are compared to their Shadows! Some are very similar, but others are totally opposites. It’s interesting! I look forward to meeting even more of them. The last chapter of this volume was actually really bittersweet, I found Kate’s thoughts really heartwarming.
However, content warnings for physical abuse, derogatory language, and the abuse of positions of power. I sense this series will hinge a lot on Emilico’s curiosity and show us even more of the dark underbelly of this manor.

Shadows House continues to be sumptuous and unsettling through the eyes of Emilico. The strangeness of the place grows as the reader learns new aspects such as the little stickies and the frightening apparitions. One of the living dolls, Mia, is suffering terrible abuse and a cloaked Shadow stalks the halls at night. There is a subtle game of proving a Shadow and their living doll are most proper and appropriate Kate and Emilico must pass. Most terrible of all are the deadly traps preventing one from leaving the manor. Through it all, Emilico remains optimistic, but how long can she keep this up? The sheer mystery of the manor and the growing cast and their relationships will keep readers coming back for more. My only problem is how many of the living dolls are light-haired, light-skinned girls with wholesome appearances; it makes a number of them difficult to tell apart.

En este nuevo tomo he conocido un poco más la casa de las sobras, Emilyko a recorrido más y a podido conocer nuevos compañeros y muñecas vivientes que están en otra posiciones. Hay una jerarquía entre ellas.
Me parecen más humanas que muñecas.
También me gustó ver otros debutantes y saber cómo se vinculan con sus sombras. Cada uno es diferente.
Por último odie a Sara no se trata así a una muñeca y más si está tiene sentimientos es una relación muy abusiva.
Ya quiero ver cómo sigue el debut.

Unlike Volume 1, the second volume is heavily character and story-based. I really enjoyed watching the characters have their development in this volume, but also how the story started folding.
I still recommend the two volumes. It's a nice switch of story and pace and also the environment.
The reader gets to know a whole lot more in this volume about the place and the "debut" of the shadow dolls' human beings.
