Lot of action action and amazing artwork. I really enjoyed this book. I love the gaming style of levelling up within the book. Link learns new skills, gains new weapons, as well as making and inspires new friends. As soon as I finished this l, i wanted to jump into the next book.

A good installment! Not as strong as some of the previous ones in terms of story, but a necessary step in the overall epic. We do finally get some answers to the mysteries provided from book 1. The explanations were surprisingly simple, but reasonably so.

Spoilers incoming!

.....

An unexpected delight is the turn in Shad and Link’s relationship from slight rivalry and irritation to genuine and hilarious friendship.

Midna is back to being mean again as she recognizes how important her friendship with Link has become and how in conflict that is with her goals. She backtracks again to the whole “I’m just using him.” Ugh. Gurl. Be more honest and stop confusing the poor lad.

There was also some development with the Bokoblin King and I’m not entirely sure how I felt about that, although the sentiment was nice.

Which brings me to sweet Ilia. Ilia who definitely loves Link and who I’d say Link has love for....but as far as romance goes, I can regretfully see how it won’t work out. Dear sweet Ilia needs a man who can come home safe every night and well....that ain’t the Hero of Hyrule. As Link realized in the previous volume, his duty is not to the king or princess, but to people in need. And even when Ganondorf and Zant are defeated, I don’t see Link’s inner fire cooling.

It really is a pity that this Link and Zelda have spent so very little time together, cause once again, they’d understand each other best in terms of experience and how they view the world and their own purpose.

Now I just have to wait months for the final few volumes...........

Once more, I love the insight, the in-depth feelings expressed by so many characters. It sheds a whole new light on an already familiar story, and makes favourite characters even better.

Link not only having Midna but a human counterpart makes the story so much more engaging and I again wish they would use the manga to recreate the game. Adding the abilities and development we see here would absolutely revolutionize the way we look at the series I feel.

This was an OK installment. Not the best, as it felt a little like it HAD to be there because it was so in the game and that the authors didn't really know what to do with it, but it still wasn't bad.
Honestly, I never did understand the Sky Temple in the game either. It seemed really random to me.

A fun follow up to the awesome seventh volume, more focused on links training with the hero of time and his adventure to the city in the sky. It does a good job setting up for what I expect will be the penultimate volume in this great adaptation of Twilight Princess.

I really enjoyed this one, even more so than I was expecting to. It was a little slow at the start, but I enjoyed how so many of the side characters are getting more character depth and story time than in the game. It was also nice seeing at least one more glimpse of how Zant’s machinations are effecting the people of Hyrule and not just Link and Midna. I do still feel that action sequences don’t really translate very well in graphic novel format as it gets so muddled and hard to follow, but I’m getting used to it. I think they handle those moments as well as they can be handled in these volumes.

Can’t wait for the next one!

This was a nice read but not much more. I agree that the series is going on a bit long and there is not much happening in one book. I was always mad that Ocarina of Time only got two books but maybe it was better this way.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed it like all of Himekawa's work. Link's design is so good in this series and Shad looks cute - I really liked the dynamic between those two. Another thing I always loved about the Zelda manga are the fighting scenes and the facial expression that are good here as always.

There is a lot of action & fighting scenes in this volume. A short part is Link in the Temple of Time, then in the City in the Sky, the worst temple in the game (in my opinion.) Side characters like Shade have bigger roles here than in the game. Some things are also added to flesh out the story but I feel it is mostly fillers.
Not sure how many volumes are left in this series but I feel the story is dragging a little bit.

A great addition to the series so far! This one actually felt like there was a lot of plot progression, which was really good. I feel like this series is gearing up now towards the final battle, which I hope will be just as exciting as the video game. I also loved how these artists were able to add a lot of depth to the Hero of Time and his role in this series, which definitely makes a nice addition to the Zelda lore. This certainly gets me pumped for Breath of the Wild 2!

All aboard the Twilight milking train. Next stop? Volume 9. The train is going until it runs out of fuel.

Let’s be real, it’s starting to drag. Link talks too much. In his head, outside his head, doesn’t matter. The interactions with the characters were tolerable to begin with, but now it’s shining a certain light on Link that just isn’t ACTUALLY there. I’m not talking about the beginning with the Hero of Time, that was cool to an extent, it’s Shad. Shad’s manga existence pushes the plot. Don’t dote on it. And not just Link interactions….Illia with her captor…I ain’t even touchin` that load of crap.

These minute variations and differences have earned quite the sizeable tab. Too many changes at the expense of what I love about Twilight Princess. Perhaps it’s also the rinse and repeat process. The first few volumes kicked off fresh. It no longer feels like I’m breathing clean air, slowly but surely I’m getting recycled material (narf narf). I’m still here simply because I’ve been keeping up with the series.

Let’s be petty? The review is getting longer than the series has any right to be anyway. The translation had a few minute, but noticeable slip-ups and the art while still spectacular utterly lost its vitality in the second half. There are one too many Link close-ups and hell if I have any idea whats going on in that last segment (particularly battle) at Sky Temple. I can understand using omission to your advantage but there were panels where visibly I don’t know what’s going on and too many jumps were being utilized in what felt like a lazy manner rather than a meaningful one.

The author’s note leaves some promise. I can dig the next few volumes, not like there’s much else for me to be reading at the moment. Here’s to hoping!

For whom does the bell toll? It tolls for thee.

Link continues his training in the Temple of Time improving both physically and mentally as Midna
finally realizes the undead guardian's real identity after some self reflections. However time is not always stable in this temple and the piece of the mirror they seek is near as the once pristine temple suddenly begins to show signs of age concluding Link's impromptu training sessions.

I hope you don't have arachnophobia dear readers because Armogohma has come to play as the boss of the area and keeper of the mirror shard. One thing I noticed about this series is although it has plenty of action and great artwork the fights can be a bit rushed (which is probably a good thing considering the series is already 4 times larger then any of the VizKid line of Zelda manga already available.) I suppose it would be a spoiler to say Link wins the second shard of the mirror but honestly if you want to see Link fail that badly you are welcomed to play the game. :)

For the rest of the book we are treated to more scenes from Hyrule Castle Town and its many interesting characters but for his part Link knowns just the guy to talk to about where to find the third shard of the mirror and the two of them will face new perils and challenges as they find their way to a world long considered legend. Of course enemy sighted, some quick action scenes, and third shard is now acquired so there is a lot going on in this action packed volume. If that is not enough to wet your appetite Midna and Link are taking one last moment together before they go to the Twilight Realm and we are left with a cliffhanger as to what happened to Midna before she came to the world of light. :)

Edit 4/14: I JUST learned that the Hero's Spirit is the Hero of Time from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask?! It makes sense, as it was mentioned that he had been a hero of Hyrule before, and the story directly links back to Ocarina of Time in ways that none of the other stories/games has, but I somehow didn't make the connection or bothered to look into it until now. Since I've been reading the non-Twilight Princess books by Himekawa recently, I've been doing research surrounding some of the older, smaller legend of Zelda Games, and WOW has my knowledge of LOZ lore expanded. I always assumed the Hero's Spirit was some random dude but now that I know it's and old Link I feel so much more connected to him. But that raises the question, how has no one realized that every single hero's name is Link? I understand everything with Zelda because every Zelda is a reincarnation of the Goddess Hylia herself, but I still don't understand what's up with Link.

I've binged the series up until this point but I can't read the next book yet! My library doesn't have a copy of the 9th book yet, although I'm sure it will get one soon, and obviously the tenth book will probably not be released in English for a while. Ah, I honestly feel like I'm going to die because I've been loving this series so much, and this book was no exception, but now I have to wait to read more! I started this series just because it was Legend of Zelda and because I wanted something fun to read, but I ended up becoming way more invested in the story than I originally intended. Man this review is already starting out overly emotional for no reason and now I'm going to start crying before I actually start talking about the story. It's not the end but for some reason it feels like it is anyway.

Edit 2/11: My library just ordered the next book! I put it on hold and I'm going to read it as soon as it comes in! :D

Midna certainly had an interesting role in this book, and she's always been a very unique character, but this book really showed her struggles as her and Link are getting closer to their ultimate goal. She clearly really cares for Link and his enjoying his friendship, but she is struggling with her responsibility as the leader of the Twilight Realm, and it creates tension within herself as she tries to decided whether to live with her brain or live with her heart. She's realized that she cares about Hyrule and the World of Light, despite the way leaders of Hyrule have treated the Twilight Realm in the past. Part of her says that she has the right to be selfish because the Twilight Realm has been mistreated in the past, but she also doesn't want to hurt any of her new friends either. And now the book has left us on a cliffhanger because Midna was about to tell a bit about her past, but of COURSE the book ended.

I really liked getting to see City in the Sky, because it is a place in Hyrule that I am not very familiar with. The whole portion of the book revolving that location was amazing- discovering the location, getting there, meeting the adorable Oocca, and fighting the dragon. I feel kind of bad that the roof on that Kakariko Village building got blasted off, but I liked how Link and Shad Revali-Galed themselves into the sky. The Oocca might be one of my favorite creatures that we have gotten to meet so far and they were so adorable. They had super cute designs, and I loved how funny they looked when they weren't super detailed. They were such an expressive group of individuals, and they really were the sweetest things. They remind me of the koroks, and I really hope that they make an appearance in BOTW 2, which would be quite appropriate for that game. The way Ooccoo cried when he was showing all the buildings that had been destroyed broke my heart, and I the FACT that something happened to upset one of my babies makes me want to run around in a murderous rage.

Now I want to talk about the only thing that I would consider as cute as the Occas- Shad. Oh man I absolutely adore him. I mean, how can you not? He's the klutzy nerd character who is really sweet, but inside is an incredibly intelligent character who is much more well-rounded than you would have initially thought. I fell in love with Shad when he first appeared in the fourth book, and I'm really glad he got to shine in this book. It was so cute watching him and Link become close, to the point that Link thinks of him as his friend, which I thought was sweet. And of course Shad is also a great comic-relief character as well. This series is relatively serious, so we rarely get to see any of those classic funny expressions that you commonly see in manga and anime, and about 90% of those moments in this series were through Shad. He's so expressive and hilarious, with my personal favorite moments being when he fell of the building and got scooped up by Ooccoo, who is such an amazing babysitter, and when the Ooccas sent him down in the little pod and Shad screamed his head off. I'm sure he's alright, but I'm curious how he got down. Maybe there was a little parachute? At least he can use the pod as proof of the City in the Sky.

This wasn't really a proper review- it was just me crying about the fact I have to wait for the next book and me fawning over the Ooccas and Shad. Oh well, I couldn't just not talk about that. I'm really upset that I have to wait because the story is starting to near the climax, and I'm really excited to see what happens next. I could honestly look up the ending of Twilight Princess, but at this point I don't want to spoil it. I know in the end good will prevail, but I know I'm still going to get really nervous during the final fight. I'm guessing in the next book Link is going to go after Zant, and then probably in the next two he'll fight Ganondorf, which I am so excited for. I honestly don't know if I'll be able to survive the two-ish year wait for the final installment to come out in English.

This volume showed more of Link’s training. I really enjoyed this sequence, but the fact that they took the exact techniques that are taught in the game and put them in here felt awkward. They tried to explain each move and I think it didn’t quite work, but because it was following the game, I was able to look past it.

This volume did have a lot of action. I have really liked how these volumes have done the boss battles and combat. It makes for an enjoyable read.

This volume did feel more rushed than the others in this series have. However, this faster pace was well done and it doesn’t feel any corners were cut in order to fit everything in. This volume also feels like the beginning of the end. I am unsure how the rest of the game will fit into three volumes, but I am excited to keep going.

i cant believe this series is almost over but i dont want it to be over yet!! 🥲🥲🥲 link's grown so much since the first volume though he still has so much to learn,, i really loved seeing how midna feels towards her friendship with link in this volume and how her duty as the princess of the twilight realm affects it... someone please tell her that she can be concerned about zant while having friends at the same time i beg you

also this has probably one of the top 10 anime redemptions ever HASJKA im joking but shad's starting to grow on me a little because of this volume hes honestly better than what i initially thought

i love ilia's growth too,, i don't know if she has less character development in the game than in the manga but the fandom really needs to appreciate her more!!! anyways 4.5 ⭐s rounded up, this was a really good volume!!

Link trains with the Hero Of Time, before heading into the City In The Sky to face off with a dragon, and worse, the creepy-looking Oocca things. Then it's the calm before the storm as he and Midna grapple with the impending end of their journey.

You know the deal by now - this is great. The fight scenes feel especially kinetic in this volume, and while it'd be easy to get lost during the gymnastics involved with the dragon fight if it was drawn by a lesser team, there's no worry of that here. There's some more development for side-characters like Ilia, Shad, and even the Bokoblin King (which I wasn't expecting).

I'm curious as to how many volumes we have left - I can't see it being more than two more?

This series is getting better and better, I love the details, and the pictures are absolutely amazing. Link's journey will soon be over and I am so excited to watch him defeat Ganon. I have really enjoyed reading this series, and it is definitely making me want to play the Twilight Princess video game.

It was hinted at that this next volume will contain more of Midna's backstory, and that is something I am definitely looking forward to.

Have an amazing day everyone, and I hope you enjoy my review.

I really like what they are doing with this. They add little things to make sense of parts of the video game, and then they only base it on the video game which really gives it a new life. For instance, without spoilers, the dragon in sky city. Or the depth in Midnas character or link as the imperfect hero, or the swordsman that was not explained or elaborated on in the game. Really enjoyed this, but I hate how long I have to wait for volume 9!

Ahh, we're getting so close to the end! Really enjoyed the way they tackled the City in the Sky portion of the story. I wasn't sure how they were going to adapt it into a way that would flow well, but they nailed it. Glad to see Link and Shad getting along as well. And Ooccoo!! Can't wait for the next one.

The artwork is still stunning, wish there was a bit more written word; but the art does a good job of conveying the plot. My nephew can't wait for the next volume to come out in a couple of weeks. As 80's kid, I love that all my nieces and nephews love Zelda and Link too.

As Always, Happy Reading!
