Tara Maya has lived in Africa, Europe and Asia. She's pounded sorghum with mortar and pestle in a little clay village where the jungle meets the desert, meditated in a Buddhist monastery in the Himalayas and sailed the Volga river to a secret city that was once the heart of the Soviet space program. This first-hand experience, as well as research into the strange and piquant histories of lost civilizations, inspires her writing. Her terrible housekeeping, however, is entirely the fault of pixies.

I loved having these 6 awesome books in one collection. All 6 books are amazing and written by amazing authors. When I started reading this collection, I started with Alexia Purdy, then I slowly continued on with the other 5. I was already a fan of Alexia, but up till then had not read any of the others.

After reading all the books in this collection, this is a set that you need to check out especially if you are already a fan of these authors or if you want to experience new reads by authors you have not yet read. You will not be disappointed, I know that I wasn't.

One out of all the books I would think about continuing with the series. They were ok. All YA.

Ever Shade (A Dark Faerie Tale, #1) by Alexia Purdy

DNF in the first chapter. I just can't. It is very simply written. If I were 10 or 11 I would eat it up and love it. But. I just can't.

The Unfinished Song by Tara Maya
I liked this book, I loved Dindi. I just wished her and Kavio had more time together, there wasn't a lot of romance, which I like my books to have. Some of the characters were really rude and mean to Dindi because of what her dream is, "it'll never happen, goat-legs," snickered Kemla. "No one in your scraggly clan has ever been chosen as a Tavaedi. The closest Lost Swan clanholders come to dancing magic is to go mad and run off with the fae." Hadi he was just a boob, "there you are! An important guest has arrived for middle-meal and Great Aunt Sullana will chop off your toes if you miss it. And on top of that, I'm starving. If you make me miss middle-meal, I'll tell her you went off dancing with the fae again." Kavio I just loved him right off he was an honest person, and he's I just love him, "no. I'm going to free the old man. You're going to try and stop me. Then I'm going to kill you." As I said I really wished there was some romance blooming between Kavio and Dindi, I mean this is a start of a series which meant (sadly) a damn cliffhanger. Wasn't pleased with that as I'm never pleased with cliffhangers.
The Changelings by Elle Casey
Jayne is an interesting character she has such a potty mouth, and has this attitude of 'I don't care what others think.' She reminds me of the song, "I don't give a damn about my bad reputation." I forget who sings it but that came to mind, "not really, dude. She is too stuck up to even see you. I'm actually thinking about going back there and punching her in the face." Tony is her BFF well I should say trusty sidekick those two are like Bonnie and Clyde but doing PG things instead of what Bonnie and Clyde really did. "yes. Because even when you have your head totally up your butt and drag me to Miami with only fifty bucks in your pocket, you still make sure I have a nice, clean place to sleep." This book and what the characters go through kind of remind me of that show Survivor, "there will be ... obstacles... in your way; things designed to keep you from reaching your goals. You are permitted to use whatever is at your disposal to ... eliminate or incapacitate those obstacles." Jayne is a little protective of Tony, "no effing way are you kissing my Tony with that mouth." I liked the book this seemed more of what I read and in the age group that I read about.
Fairy Metal Thunder by J.L. Bryan
This book was alright, not really my cup of tea, there was no romance, well maybe one smooch towards the end of the book, "but she had kissed him, and Jason knew she didn't hate him. Far from it." There were some funny characters like Mitch, "what's wrong?" Mitch asked. "Were you going to drop a number two?" And of course what would a faery book be without a name you can't pronounce, "the elf named Hokealussiplatytorpinquarnartnuppy Melaerasmussanatolinkarrutorpicus" there was a third part of that name but it was to long. As I said I need romance in my books and this one didn't have it well it had love for music but that's not really the same thing, you can't smooch music lol.
Feyland: The Dark Realm by Anthea Sharp
This book had the start of romance but not really, well I mean it's a series so the start of the romance really will probably be in the next book. I've been dying to get my hands on this series to give it a go, and I did but honestly I don't think it's for me. I mean I love faeries and the mystical stuff, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Why is it authors always tend to put those characters in the book that you just want to haul off and punch? "So, you're too good to answer?" Marny asked. "What are you doing here, anyway? Looking for a cheap boyfriend?" I mean I know kids are like that I lived through it, I'm sure others have lived through it, it's just tough reading about people who are rude and mean. Jennet she's a good character, "you're not spoilage," Jennet said. Then tilted her head, giving him a long, level look. "I think you're fine how you are." She looks past Tam's poorness and likes him for his gaming talents which is a new attraction to me, I never looked at someone for the gaming talents, probably because I'm not really a gamer. Toward the end you can see that the two characters have been through so much together and I guess that's where the romance maybe starts to bloom, "I'm alright. But how could you sacrifice yourself like that, Tam? I nearly lost you." Although this book wasn't my cup of tea I bet the gamers out there would like the book.
Faelorehn by Jenna Elizabeth Johnson
This book was more my style, it reminds me of Julia Crane's books and I just love her to pieces! Cade he's I just loved him off the bat, "I often heard the spoken insults of the young people attending your school, but I never paid them much attention." He speaks so weirdly that I find it cute. He's also always so proper that just really pis*ed me off at times, "tomorrow, this will seem like a dream, but in a week's time I will send Fergus to you. Follow him, and I will introduce myself properly, at a more reasonable time of day. Then I'll explain everything." I didn't like how the book ended but it's a first book in the series no there was no cliffhanger it just I didn't like how it ended.
Ever Shade by Alexia Purdy-
Yea Jack, hottie was my first thought, "He wore a tight black shirt with a leather belt tightened around his waist and multiple items strung onto it, including a sword." Men who carry sword I have a fetish for that haha. Soap he cracked me up fell in love with him as well not to mention he's good looking, "He was tall muscular and his long brown hair was tied back with some loose wisps framing his face. He wore form fitting armor and leather, a sword strapped to his back." Mostly though he cracked me up, "Sorry, you just crack me up. My dear Shade, I meant no disrespect. You're so like a young child in that you know almost nothing about the Fey. That's how we'll pass the time, I guess chatting about our peculiar lives. To answer your questions, yes, there are better ways to get around than on foot..." Jack is VERY protective maybe he has a little crush on Shade? "That's enough Dylan," Jack stated firmly as he put himself between the Captain and Shade. "We have no quarrel. We are under Teleen protection and you act hostile towards your own guests. The Queen will not be pleased knowing your hostility was lacking so." Dylan at first I didn't like him but he sort of grew on me, "You alright there? The wall isn't going to kick you back you know, it didn't really do anything to you." There may even be a little somethin', somethin' going on between the two, (yes I said that about Shade and Jack as well but I can't help it there's a lot of good lookin' men in this book) "Dylan's arms felt warm and strong around her, and she only hoped he would continue to hold her this way." I'm hoping to see more of Dylan and Shade, well I mean this is a first in a series so I'm sure I will but I want to see their bond grow and live happily ever after with some smooches. So I guess that means I'm Team Dylan haha.
Overall Thoughts-
Overall I thought the publishers, or whoever put this book together did a good job getting the reader's attention there are definitely a few series that I read in this book that I will go out and get to see where the stories lead, other not so much.

Thanks to Netgalley and Indie Inked for giving me this book review.

Faery Worlds is an enjoyable collection six books by six different authors about Faery.

Tara Maya – Initiate *
Dindi is a young woman who dreams of becoming a Tavaedi, but cannot do anything right and prefers spending her time dancing with fairies. Kavio is a power Warrior-dancer who is exiled from his home for a crime he did not commit. I just could not get on with Initiate as I did not care much about what happened to the characters, and the plot was a bit confusing. If you enjoy fantasy books with fairies in, I would recommend Winter Queen by Amber Argyle.

Elle Casey – The Changelings ***
Jayne Sparks has always felt something was missing in her life. After running away from her troubled home life with her best friend Tony, they meet up with another group of runaways. Together they are sent to a forest with magical dangers everywhere. The Changelings is an enjoyable paranormal book and it was very fast paced. I liked how Jayne and Tony were just best friends, unlike most other paranormal novels, they were not romantically attracted to each other at all. I would recommend The Changeling to fans of action-filled paranormal books.

J. L. Bryan – Fairy Metal Thunder ***
Jason is the guitarist in the Assorted Zebras with his friends, however, they have no gigs and no one has heard of them. That is until Jason follows a thief from his house, and ends up in the world of the fairies. He decides to take some magical instruments for his band, but they are destructive and lead him and his band members into a dangerous chain of events. Fairy Metal Thunder is a light fun paranormal book with some action but does not take itself too seriously. I like the POV of Jason and his struggle to become famous and win the girl of his dreams, but I prefer Aoide’s POV as it was interesting to see more of the fairy world and I felt sorry for her and her band mates. I would recommend Fairy Metal Thunder to people who enjoy light paranormal books with fairies in.

Anthea Sharp – Feyland: The Dark Realm ****
Jennet is lucky enough to try the prototype of the world most immersive computer game, Feyland. However, she soon figures out that it is not a game, and that part of her soul is trapped in it by the Dark Queen. Jennet must find a person who is better at playing computer games than her to save it and her life. Tam is brilliant at playing games but with his flawed family barely scraping by, he does not want to let Jennet into his life. Will the two of them be able to save not just Jennet’s soul but all of the human world from Feyland? Feyland is a very interesting book which is a mixture of paranormal and sci-fi. I like Jennet and Tam as they are both very relatable, but I preferred Tam as he is so strong from having to look after his family. I would recommend Feyland to fans of unique paranormal books.

Jenna Elizabeth Johnson – Faelorehn ***
With eyes that change colour and being able to see and hear things which others cannot, Meghan has always been an outcast. With her visions getting worse, Meghan starts to think she is going crazy. That is until she meets Cade, who might have the answers she needs. Faelorehn is a enjoy book which is a quick read with Celtic mythology. I like Meghan and her friends and I felt I could have fit in well in their group. We did not see enough of Cade and I hope we see more of him in the next book. I would recommend Faelorehn to people who like Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey.

Alexia Purdy – Ever Shade ***
After seeing two faeries fight, Shade is whisked into the world of faery, where she is caught in the middle of the fight between the good Seelie court and the Unseelie one. Sent on a quest to stop the Unseelie court, with a band of warriors sworn to protect her, is she able to bring peace to the faery world? Ever Shade is an enjoyable paranormal book, which has a fantasy feel about it as even though it is set in modern day, Shade and her friends go on a fantasy type quest. Shade was a bit clueless as she wandered into a forest with a total stranger and did not think twice about it. I would recommend Ever Shade to people who like paranormal books with fantasy elements to them.

A lot of things have happened since. 2014 Was a very hard year for myself so all the reviews are showing up on the same date. I can't explain why they are, if the ratings are justice or accurate I can also not say when I truly read these. I'm just going to say 2014 on the same day added just to keep the year right if not the month...

Okay

Three of these books were pretty good and I bought any sequels, but others just weren't my style- characters that I couldnt get into or the writing style just grated me.

Ok, the ONLY book that I enjoyed thoroughly was the War of the Fae by Elle Casey. I ended up buying the entire 10 book set, that’s how much I loved it!
Honourable mention for Fairy Metal Thunder and Feyland: The Dark Realm. The stories pulled me in and the characters were decently fleshed out.
The worst: Faelorehn, The Unfinished Song Book 1, and the worst by far, Ever Shade. Holy sh*t I hated these books. Poorly written, poorly edited, ridiculous dialogue (saying the persons name that you are talking to in every sentence is not natural, nor does it EVER flow well, ie “how amazing, Dylan!” “Where are we, Dylan?” “Way to go, Shade!” You’re the ONLY TWO THERE!!! Ugh.) and also poorly described main characters. Occasionally there’s snippets of something being interesting, and you can tall that the author has a lovely imagination, but they are shackled by their loose command of wording. If you’re interested in any of these books, I believe they’re all free, so do yourself a favour and just download them one at a time instead of this 6-pack of bullshit.

THE UNFINISHED SONG (Book One): INITIATE - TARA MAYA

WAR OF THE FAE: BOOK 1 (THE CHANGELINGS) – ELLE CASEY

FAIRY METAL THUNDER – JL BRYAN

FEYLAND: THE DARK REALM – ANTHEA SHARP
didn't even start this because I DNFd the prequel novella. The scenario with a computer game landing the MC in another reality feels old to me and I'm not really interested in teenage heroines.

Great Adventures!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this box set. The stories sucked me in and the characters are rich, although some of them make me want to smack them! That's good writing when you feel so attached!

Some powerful stories.

I believe these are all supposed to be Young Adult. A few have attempted rape and violence. All the books are part of a continuing series so while they don't end in cliffhangers there is no HEA yet. I have put two of them on my wishlist.

I'm going to err on the side of a higher rating, although my experience with the books inside this collection was mixed.

First the good:
FEYLAND: I've read this book before, and liked it enough to get the rest of the series. Computer games and Faerie are a good mix. It's the reason that I gave the rest of the books a chance.

WAR OF THE FAE #1: The very beginning left me a little skeptical, but once the adventure gets started, this is very compelling. I have already made plans to buy the next book in the series and see what happens!

FAIRY METAL THUNDER: This one really surprised me, but I loved the idea of magical rock stars! The theft at the center of the story kind of bothered me, and I wasn't thrilled with the B-plot about the investigation / recovery attempt, but on the whole this was a solid story and I'm glad to have had the chance to read it! I think I'll definitely check up on what happens next with these rock stars.

Then the not-so-good:
THE UNFINISHED SONG: Actually very polished as a whole, and an interesting setting with a sort of semi-neolithic culture interacting with the fairy elements. However, the continual misfortunes of the central characters were too depressing for me to want to continue to witness their downtrodden-ness through the rest of the series (although one hopes that something eventually goes their way!). Plus, I'm kind of attached to a vaguely European-medieval world of Fae, so although this rethinking of it was intriguing, it just wasn't my thing. Good book, but just not my cup of tea.

FAELOREHN: There were flashes of real promise in the setup, but the story just never really delivered. I felt like the heroine mostly sat around and waited for things to happen to her, and couldn't really get behind the romantic subplot. A little too angsty and teenage for my taste.

EVER SHADE: I had a hard time getting into this novel. I couldn't connect with the characters and the different fairy races / powers were confusing. On top of that, most of the interaction seemed to be typical high school soap opera plotting, which didn't really work with the quest format (at least, I don't particularly like having the two kluged together).

This set is definitely worth buying especially at the great low price I got on Amazon (always keeping my eye out for a deal). It's a great group of books that introduced me to authors I may not have found/tried otherwise.
War of the Fae book one, A Dark Faerie Tale #1, and Faelorehn are three great action packed books that I had a hard time putting down. All three with great characters and story that pull you in and keep you reading. All of them the first books in series that I then devoured one right after the other. All of which I highly recommend. I would have similar things to say about the Feyland (and the rest of its series) although it took me a bit longer to get into it but would still recommend.
The Unfinished Song was different but interesting and I do plan on reading the rest of the series.

THE UNFINISHED SONG (Book One): INITIATE - TARA MAYA

WAR OF THE FAE: BOOK 1 (THE CHANGELINGS) – ELLE CASEY

FAIRY METAL THUNDER – JL BRYAN

FEYLAND: THE DARK REALM – ANTHEA SHARP - 3 Stars
When lines are blurred between reality and gaming, Tam Linn discovers that a game can turn into a different realm making him the hero of the show. As his world is turned upside down (for the better) Tam is tasked with helping the rich-girl Jennet pushing their limited in the Dark Realm of the Fairyland.

The world building the author is able to create was fun and inventive with the characters flowing in and adding to the concept. I thought the rich girl, poor boy kind of thing was a little overdone with the characters styles but overall I found them to be well developed.

The book that really got me into wanting to read this collection was War of Fae by Elle Casey. I never heard of any plot like this and was very interested by it. Needless to say I wasn't disappointed! Once I get paid I am going to buy every book in this series! Jayne seems like every other teenager really I mean in high school minding her own business then wham! It almost seems like Hungry Games and I didn't even like those movies or books but I loved this book. With the other books I already read Ever Shade by Alexia Purdy and I loved it! I am actually on book 3 of that series. Alexia is a very talented author and I always awaiting her releases. I would recommend this amazing collection of full six novels to anyone who loves paranormal.

I am really surprised at how well written these books are, and for the price that they are, I would be willing to pay more for them. None of those ammeter written books you come across so often on e-books, rather, engaging characters and story lines which are original and interesting, I just can't put it down, and with 1500 words, I won't need to for a while which is another big plus!

I have read two books so far and will certainly be looking for the sequels to both! I have personally not read many faery fantasy and I can honestly say, this has really got me hooked!

It was a good collection, a nice, enjoyable read. The last story, "Evershade (A Dark Faerie Tale #1) by Alexia Purdy started out slow and I almost gave up on the book. Then it got interesting, and turned out to be good, a 3 rating. It had one major writing flaw near the beginning of "Evershade", and that was the introduction of Ryan. He was introduced to Shade, and in the next paragraph, she asked "Who is Ryan? I don't remember him being introduced." It was not due to her mind having been elsewhere at the time of intro.

Meh, If it hand not been a promo on Amazon Kindle, I probably would not have read this. Most of the stories read like a YA w-angsty, Mary Sue story. There were a couple of gems in the chaffe. Feyland: The Dark Realm by Anthea Sharpwas an interesting take on how Fae is surviving in the modern world. The Unfinished Song: Initiate by Tara Maya was a fair good read; I'll probably check out the other books in the series.
