All your favorite Pokémon game characters jump out of the screen into the pages of this action-packed manga!
As the battle between Legendary Pokémon Groudon and Kyogre rages on, so does the battle to control the orbs that control them. Then, when tragedy strikes, long hidden secrets are revealed, and Ruby comes to a profound realization.
Now, what role will Ruby's secret sixth Pokémon play in turning things around...?
Meh. I was pretty underwhelmed throughout the Ruby/Sapphire series and this wasn't an exception. It wrapped everything up but in a satisfying conclusion? Eh... not my favorite of the manga series thus far.
I've been devouring the Pokémon Adventures manga over the last few days, so I'm only going to write this review for the last volume of the Ruby/Sapphire arc. Now, if you only know the anime as the single longest form of narrative to this series then you're missing out. Great art by Satoshi Yamamoto, phenomenal characters expanded upon by Hidenori Kusaka, and amazing battle sequences litter every issue of the "chapters." I believe Satoshi Tajiri, creator of Pokémon, even said this is the way he imagined the world of Pokémon to look like when he was creating it. Battles, especially, are intense and inclusive, where the trainer doesn't stand behind some kind of podium but rather is involved in the crossfire. The get hurt. They get attacked. Suddenly, this fun kids game has become a struggle for survival. And it's brutal. And they don't hold back. One thing I admire about this series, besides everything I mentioned earlier on, is the storied don't talk down to kids without crossing that line in being TOO adult. There are stakes, lives are lost, and the protagonists kids (Ruby and Sapphire, respectively) are always given a chance to show why they matter and are the only ones to stop the crisis. Even if they're not the strongest, they're the only ones who can. That's an important message. You may not be the best, but you might be only one who fits.
i LOOOOVED the characterization, especially for ruby and sapphire, they have such a good chemistry they make me SICKKKKK and also have some amazing character development, i loved that the gym leaders had a huge role and conflicts and personalities, and team aqua and magma's main grunts were also done beautifully
the writers managed to fit both ruby/sapphire and emerald's plot points in a single story, also adding backstory and making some points more clear or interesting
also some parts were DARK, like ruby's daddy issues (fuck norman everybody hates norman) or the whole climatic disaster that is kyogre and groudon's fight, PEOPLE DIED!!!!!! AND IT WAS SHOWN CLEARLY!!!!!! and that's where my only nitpick is, i'm ok with some very important characters' death, but then their death had to be undone with a very dumb deus ex machina which came out of nowhere
i will be reading emerald and oras🫡
to quote ign, 7.8/10 too much water (that's not true i'm giving it 9.5 trumpets out of 10)
I know it's aimed for younger audiences, but the deus ex machina of suddenly revealing that Ruby had Celebi this whole time and then reversing time so those who died weren't dead was a bit much. I don't think it was needed, considering that Ruby and Sapphire had just defeated the heads of Team Magma and Team Aqua. It was just an excuse to show off Celebi and undo the deaths for a happy ending. I liked the grittiness of how dark it was becoming, and how this darkness was affecting the way Ruby and Sapphire saw the world around them. But the end was very bland and happy-go-lucky. It was a conclusion, and I did enjoy Sapphire and Ruby's adventures, but I'm excited to see what Pokemon Adventures brings next.

Loved this finale and I will miss Ruby and Sapphire. I like how the little cliffhanger at the end shows the return of Team Rocket after their defeat at the end of the Gold, Silver and Crystal chapter.
Not sure how to organize my thoughts, so just going to bullet point my main thoughts
-Feefee returning, and Ruby's speech on Beauty was great, 10/10 highlight
-Archie and Maxie returning was cool, as they became quite cruel and hatable, but like with the fight at Seafloor Cavern, I wish the fight had a bit more focus, as really Ruby and Sapphire do a single combo move, then the Leader's run away
-Courtney's back story was good, and made her inclusion interesting. Also, the girl in the flashbacks alongside her is definitely Daisy Oak, right?
-Sapphire was way out of focus, and she definitely should've gotten mad at Ruby at somepoint for the betrayal/ pushing her away. Tricky being clutch was also great -Found it funny how Ruby straight up just stole Troppy, it is actually on his team in the between Chapter status updates -Norman backstory was good. I think? I feel like theres some more to be said about Ruby and Sapphire's backstory, but it is overall solid
- And last but not least, -Epilogue stuff! I Liked how Sapphire got tongue tied at the end, kinda wish we could see her Gym fight with Norman. And I like them walking home, actual friends with a shared wink. - Team Magma got a lot of focus overall, as both Courtney and Tabitha are shown to surrvive, but no one on Team Aqua gets a single panel. So Ruby is really the main focus overall. Speaking of, Tabitha at the hot springs is great, and I enjoy Flannery noticing him, thats cute. - Overall- I like Ruby and Sapphire, it handles the Legendary conflict quite well, the characters have good backstories and development, but sometimes it doesn't share focus well, and has lack luster battles(Examples being the Maxie and Archie fights, and Chic's double kick strategy against Brawly just feels like a weak win) But its great! It goes hard with backstories and legends, and is quite fun.
As a whole Ruby and Sapphire saga is kind of just ok as both of the main characters are kind of dull with Ruby being the better of the two because the conflict with Norman does add more to his character even if parts of the conflict feel kind of stupid and even though I do like they actually had more moments of Team Aqua and Team Magma fighting each other but the leaders are still just bland villains but they do get better during the final battle as they give up on their plans and just want to murder Ruby and Sapphire for ruining their plans. Sapphire feels like the more neglected of the two as she does not really do anything during the final fight. I do like what they did with Wally by making him more involved with the Rayquaza story and Wally has always felt like a character that was underutilized in the original game. I do feel the Regi's were just kind of pointless as they do not contribute much except giving the Elite Four something to do.
This was a wonderful ending to this arc. I really enjoyed every moment of these books. Ruby and Sapphire were such fun characters throughout them, their hilarious interactions and their serious ones too, their relationship together was quite an eventful journey from start to finish, they learnt to trust each other and more. Wally was an amazing addition to the story he was such a sweet character. My favourite character was definitely Steven. He is an amazing champion. Hoenn was a nice place to explore, many new characters, a couple of old ones mixed in too, the region was beautiful, the story was magnificent and the pokemon were all incredible. I'm really excited to read more of the books.
I think this is the first volume of this series (I mean out of the 22 so far) that I have actually devoured. You know what I mean. You can't put it down because you have to know what happens next. Yea, I didn't agree with everything about how the story was going. It's my same old gripes, but woah,
When I started this manga, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Ruby/Sapphire weren’t my favourite games in the series, so I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy it. It took me a while to get used to the new characters, and at first I want sure how I felt about Ruby and Sapphire. But they grew so much over the series, and Ruby is in my top five favourite Pokémon manga characters; he was just so unique and adorable! I’ll definitely be rereading this again sometime.
The Wally story comes into play. Ruby and Sapphire do some cool stuff. The final fight was pretty exciting. However, the Celebi time travel copout seemed pretty dumb. Why wasn't that used at the start of the whole thing? Overall, it started out exciting but ended on a weird note. At the end, the Red/Green saga begins again.
idk how they manage to make an amazing ending that finishes everything off perfectly yet leaves room to link to the next gen every single time- it’s amazing

Oh dude!! This was so beautiful, the whole volume. I cried when Archie kicked Mimi and Ruby said that beautiful speech to her. EPIC BATTLES!! I would like to see more about Winona and Wallace (My second favorite couple) and was awkward when Sapphire tried to talk about their love with Ruby and he didn't reply...
Re-Read: 12 August 2016 OMG! So many feelings! I re read this volume because I bought the paperback and I had so many emotions as the first time. I can't wait to re read the entire Ruby and Sapphire arc and buy the new arc!! So excited!
