This book was very disappointing. First, it should be title "New Voices in Fantasy and Science Fiction" since the a lot of stories are almost pure fantasy. Second, most of the stories had very similar writing styles (and there was even some overlap in themes). And I found that writing style to be tedious. I didn't even finish reading 3 of the stories - as short as they were, I just wasn't willing to waste my reading time on them.
This is an interesting if uneven anthology that Resnick edited in 2003, attempting to collect the next generation of superstars in the speculative field. Many of the authors selected have not found much subsequent success, but it does include stories by Tobias Buckell, Kage Baker, Doctorow and Stross, Julie Czerneda, etc. Many of the stories are actually fantasies, but what the heck. It's a good book to skim and skip to the next entry when one story doesn't grab your attention.
