An old photo brings a shocking revelation and it's up to Emily and her best friend Olivia to solve the case!
Fourteen-year-old Emily O'Reilly and her best friend Olivia Webster have a knack for solving mysteries. Emily has been busily training her new puppy Sherlock to be a Search and Rescue dog so that the two can lead search-and-rescue missions someday. So when Emily stumbles across an old photo of Olivia's adoption day--a fact that has never been revealed to Olivia--the two quickly decide to uncover the mysterious details surrounding Olivia's birth parents.
But the two bite off more than they can chew as they dig into learning more about Olivia's adoption without notifying her parents. And to make matters worse, Emily's mother Marika, a convicted felon recently released on parole, will stop at nothing to contact her daughter--a fact that Emily is not happy about.
When her beloved stepmother Naomi disappears, Emily takes it upon herself to connect the dots and conduct her own snow-bound search-and-rescue mission with Sherlock. Will Emily ever find the secret behind Naomi's disappearance? And will Olivia ever learn the truth about her adopted parents?

I really liked this book, and I could not put it down, I stayed up to like 2:30 AM reading my book it was so good!! I would for sure recommend to preteens or even teens. I think I have finally found a good book to remember and share with others.
3 stars. { Might be best for younger readers who were adopted to read with a parent. } While I wasn’t so sure about this book at first, I did like the ending. It’s really neat to read about the Search and Research dogs and their handlers, which makes this series stand out in my eyes. Because of some content, it probably would be best for those around Emily’s age.
This was a bit cheesy, the main character doesn't know where she fits in the world. She wants to act like an adult but keeps making kid mistakes.... so lots of lessons learned. There is a religious aspect to the book that was not overdone. The girls have lots of life issues going on, one has just found out she is adopted and the other has a mother who is court-ordered to stay away after a prison stay, but she isn't reporting the violations. There is a crime ring, dog searches, missing people... it is a pretty busy book but geared for YA reader, although I did enjoy it.
AWESOME. I like this book a lot because Emily works with search and rescue dogs, and I really like here because she gets to have her own dog Sherlock. I like her cause she's responsible and honest and kind. Great book!

Ok story about a kid who gets in over her head when she takes matters in her own hands to find a friends birth mother. She uncovers a crime ring...a little far fetched and hard to keep going

Emily and Olivia have a new mystery on there hands when they find out that Emily was in fact adopted. Emily's mother is in town determined to see her. Add in the disappearance of Naomi and the girls are pushed to their limits as they use Sherlock, the dog has been training to work in SAR, Search and Rescue.
A great adventure mystery for, but not limited to, young readers. I read this book with my great-niece. When we talked on the phone to discuss the book I found enjoying for myself. Written on a level for easy understanding and able to hold the interest of a ten year old. Share the adventure with someone you love or just read it for your own pleasure.
My rating of Lost and Found, the second book in the series, is 4.25 out of 5 stars.
I liked Rock Harbor: Lost and Found better than its predecessor. For one, there was much less about boys. Emily only notices Josh once, but she realizes she’s too young for dating. Olivia still has her crush, and there was also two kids that were boyfriend and girlfriend though I don’t think they did anything but hold hands. When a boy was describing a hot woman he uses sexy twice. I was very disappointed in that! Maybe it is modern vernacular, but I don’t want that in a Christian book for kids/young adults. Another thing I liked about Rock Harbor: Lost and Found was that the stakes were higher. I think that lent a somewhat more intense feel to the book. Lastly, I enjoyed the ideas of forgiveness and why God would let certain things happen. They were interesting and real life questions. I will say that it drove me slightly crazy that Emily wouldn’t tell her parents everything that was happening to her. Your psychopathic mother keeps showing up to you when you’re alone and you wait to tell them because you don’t want to upset your brother? I understand the reasoning, and it is dealt with in the book I guess, but come on! The same goes for when Inetta Harris tells you to stop digging into a certain subject because she found out they’ve been known to deploy HIT MEN to prevent you from doing such things, and you DON’T tell your father or the authorities?! Seriously?! I get that your stepmom is missing, and you don’t want to stress your father out any more than he already is, but don’t you think he’d want to know if you were in danger?! It also seemed a little far fetched to me that Inetta Harris treated Emily and Olivia basically like adults. They’re not. They’re fourteen years old. I liked the dogs. Anyways, Rock Harbor: Lost and Found was a good, Christian fiction, suspense book.
Really liked this one. The main character is continuing to grow up. All the emotions that are so close to the surface for 14 year old girls are there, together with that balance of character and perspective. Her lack of judgement (as benefits a 14 yo!) comes into play here, but so do her parents both understanding and not understanding her.
A really good balance of character, talking it out, misunderstandings, fixing those... all those things that make up every day life, without bogging the story down in details. I look forward to reading more in the series.
The story was full of fun and excitement. Once Olivia finds out she is adopted, the search begins for her birth mother. While the mother may be open to being found, someone involved in the adoption my have something to hide and go to great lengths to keep the secret from being revealed.
The story is tagged on GoodReads as "Young Adult", "Middle Grade", "Childrens", which I didn't notice until after I read it. While the main characters are teens, this didn't feel like a kid (or even teen) book, but rather a clever and interesting suspense story (so don't be put off by the genre tags).
Emily and Olivia had been best friends since kindergarten and would always remain friends. They looked out for each other through everything and this time was not any different. This time was different because it involved Emily's real Mom, kidnapping, the school being set on fire, and really not being able to put this book down. All ages will enjoy this book. You feel yourself running through the forest looking for any sign of Naomi.
LOST AND FOUND is Book 2 in the heartwarming Christian Middle Grade Series ROCK HARBOR SEARCH AND RESCUE. When Emily's best friend discovers unexpectedly that she was adopted, Emily dives into help. Then trouble arrives in the form her long-absent and deliberately abusive mother. Will Emily's faith sustain her?
First time in ages I've read a story from a teenager's prospective. It was actually really good. It also brought to mind that parents suffer from the actions and decisions kids make but happy endings make a great read.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was one person the whole time and it wasn't til the end that the other was revealed...I suppose I just didn't think they would. But it made sense. I loved the whole family that you got here and how things went with them.
A wonderful story of love, adventure, teenagers, and dogs.
I would think that teens would enjoy this mystery. It is full of emotion, rebellion, and victory. All dog owners would be enticed to read about the training of these rescue dogs.
Colleen Coble and Robin Carroll in their new book “Rock Harbor Lost & Found” Book Two in the Rock Harbor Search and Rescue series published by Thomas Nelson gives us another adventure with Emily O’Reilly.

Emily and her Search and Rescue puppy, Sherlock, are back in a second adventure and this time she really has hands full. Emily and her friend, Olivia, are on a search to find out the truth behind Olivia’s adoption. Their actions set in motion all kinds of events that the young girls have to deal with. At the same time Emily and Sherlock launch their own Search for Emily’s Stepmother who disappears. Danger, suspense and mystery “Rock Harbor Lost and Found” has it all. This book is all about family. It also is about secrets and how kept secrets can be dangerous and have the power to destroy if we continue to keep them bottled up. Ms. Coble and Ms. Carroll know exactly how to bring all of that to the story and more. This is a fast-paced read that will keep you flipping pages to keep up with the story. Ms. Coble and Ms. Carroll have done an outstanding job. I am looking forward to more stories about Emily O’Reilly at Rock Harbor.

I enjoyed this book, greatly. It was fun, enjoyable and full of drama. It was aimed at younger readers, which I refreshing and loved that there was not much of a romance aspect, but love for family and friends was showed throughout. The only part I did not like was all the religion.
4 out of 5 stars
Step by step overview
0% – I have not read the first one in the Rock Harbor series, do not think I need to. Looks like a good mystery told from two young teenagers points of view, lots of secrets to uncover.
10% – Interesting so far, nice writing style, aimed at younger readers but a nice easy read for adults. Lots of drama and secrets to unfold, but not only the ones in the blurb. Emily and Olive’s friendship looks healthy and solid, nice to see in books for younger readers.
20% – Looks like a close net community, where people all band together . I like books that feature them, they give a safety feeling and when something goes wrong it’s even more gripping. I like how the author is dealing with adult issues, the 14year old protagonist hears adults talking about them in front of her, but later she actually gets talked to like an adult. I like it because for younger readers they can just read on and not know they have missed anything, adults will understand though, it’s nothing integral to the plot.
30% – I think I know who started the fire, but only time will tell. There’s a wee bit too much praying and talking about God for me, but that’s a personal belief.
40% – Looks like I was wrong about who the jacket belonged to, but maybe it’s not over and they weren’t the one who started the fire.
50% – So a second person is missing, are they linked or is it a big coincidence? Personally I think they are not linked. I am enjoying the story, there is not a dull moment but it is not full to bursting with action either.
60% – True friendship, not letting the other one go alone even when you know it is wrong and possibly dangerous. At least one half of one mystery is solved, but just lead to more questions.
70% – I like how the author drops hints at several possibilities for each mystery, keeps you guessing the whole way through.
80% – Hopefully we are close to finding Naomi. She is a nice stepmother, glad there was a stereotype. This time it was the mother who was a nasty piece of work.
90% – I think Olivia is Grace, (if you read it you will understand what I mean). Hmm maybe not. Marika (Emily’s mother) is a horrible person who is only out for herself and doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process.
100% – Charlotte Travers, oh my what a witch, what she did was inexcusable. I did not expect that person to be behind the kidnapping of Naomi, but I suppose there was not anyone left. It was a really good story. I was wrong about somethings which I liked.
TITLE: Rock Harbor Search And Rescue #2: Lost And Found SERIES: Rock Harbor Search And Rescue #2 AUTHOR: Colleen Coble
GENRE/AUDIENCE: Adapted for Middle graders from the adult series. Particularly of interest to Christian girls (9+) by content of story. PUBLISHER: Thomas Nelson Specialty PUB DATE: Oct 8 2013
REVIEW: Emily and Olivia are best friends who are like sisters. Things get complicated fast when Emily's real mother is released from prison and starts harassing her, despite an order for protection. Olivia finds a photo with a caption that reveals she was adopted! The girls investigate without telling their parents. And then, Emily's step-mother is missing. Mothering issues are big ones, and this book is chock full of the meaning of mother, the difficulties of mothers, and the children who need them. Christian themes of honor thy mother and father are also explored...do you have to honor a dishonorable parent? Do you really have to forgive them when they did/do awful things?
READ-ALIKES: There is a book 1 of this series, Rock Harbor Search And Rescue, already out. ----- ABOUT THIS REVIEWER: I am a book lover and aspiring librarian. My passion is in reader's advisory -- finding the right book to be read next! This means I read very widely. My Blog on Blogger had over 700 hits in July, 875 hits in August. http://martysreads.blogspot.com/ Share the word!
I really enjoyed the first Rock Harbor SAR book with the dog training and Search and Rescue missions that went on in the book. This book gets a little lost in Emily's and Olivia's family drama. There is some SAR training in beginning, but Emily's puppy gets lost in the drama and seldom does it talk about the daily routine that she should be doing with the dog for its training. Olivia discovers that she was adopted, something her parents never told her. Something I find odd in this day and age.
Emily has her own family problem's and then her stepmother goes missing and she is not allowed to go on the search for her. She has helped on a couple of other searches, but the SAR, supposed one of the big plugs for this series, takes a back seat to the dramas of the families.
Perhaps if only one of the girls had a problem, although I know in real life it doesn't always work so neatly, this just seemed like overload in a book. I was expecting it to be more of working with the search and rescue dogs, with a little drama thrown in, but this was all drama with a little search and rescue thrown in. We all face problems in our lives, some much bigger than others and 14 year olds perhaps don't always make the best decisions, but when a book is based on the premise of a girl and an SAR puppy, you sort of want to read more about that along with her problems.
Rock Harbor: Lost and Found By Colleen Coble and Robin Caroll
Emily O'Reilly's puppy Sherlock is everything she had hoped for in a search and rescue dog. But Emily has a knack for getting into trouble and she's about to get into more trouble. Her mother is hanging around trying to get Emily to spend time with her. There is a suspicious fire at the high school. Emily and Olivia uncover a secret - a big one. And bad things are about to happen to the O'Reilly family and Emily thinks that she's to blame.
Emily learns some valuable lessons in Lost and Found including that some secrets should never be kept and she learns that there are hidden dangers on the internet - dangers that almost cost her more than she ever imagined.
Emily wants to help but her impatience and curiosity have a way of make her act without thinking things through. I also think that Emily's dad can at times be just a little uptight, which is understandable with some of Emily's stunts. But both come off as real people which makes this a believable story that subtly teaches middle grade readers a valuable and cautionary message. This is a worthy sequel to Search and Rescue.
I was provided loan of a digital ARC of this title by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
This is the second book in the Rock Harbor Search and Rescue series. I didn't read the first one, but I would suggest that if you read this series, you start at the beginning. Lots of the minor characters and back stories carry over.
Emily's birth mother has shown up again, and she makes Emily nervous. Emily's best friend finds out a big secret and the girls start investigating. Meanwhile, people start disappearing and nobody seems to be talking. The girls must work together, with the help of a few friends, to locate the missing people and uncover the real reason that Emily's mother has returned.
This is a Christian fiction novel for middle grade readers. There is a lot more religious content in it than in other books I've read for the age group. Some of it felt natural, and some felt forced, but I liked the themes of forgiveness, honesty, and faith that wove through the story.
The book was okay. It didn't blow me away or keep me on the edge of my seat, but it was clean and well written. Some things didn't strike me as believable, but I think kids will enjoy this middle grade mystery.
Source: I received a digital galley of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The back-cover blurb is spot on: this is a mild mystery which is aimed at a young, female audience, but which will appeal to fans of Coble's Rock Harbor series. As an older male, I found the story to be a quick, worthwhile read. It helps that I have read enough Rock Harbor mysteries to feel like the characters are old friends, and it also helps that I'm a big fan of large, intelligent dogs.
Parents can hand this book to teen readers knowing that this is a completely safe, edifying book. The story carries some lessons about honesty, self-control, and Christian forgiveness, but it isn't at all preachy.
I didn't notice any distracting problems with the story line or with the writing itself (hooray for excellent editors!). The only nit I have to pick is with the cover, which prominently features a helicopter which is absent in the story.
Key characters: Emily O'Reilly and her dog Sherlock Olivia Webster Naomi O'Reilly and her dog Charley Bree and her dog Samson Ranger Kade, Sheriff Mason Kaleva, Reporter Inetta Harris, Marika, Mackenzie
This is book #2 of the Rock Harbor Search and Rescue series. This book is written for younger kids but I found it enjoyable for a middle aged person (although my daughter says I am not middle aged since I won't live to be 98).
Lots of stuff going on to keep your attention. Emily is back and she has a new puppy she is training to do search and rescue named Sherlock. Emily's birth mother is also back which is bad news for Emily. Emily's friend Olivia discovers evidence that shows she might be adopted. The girls then begin their search to see if Olivia was adopted, who her birth parents were and why they gave her up. Throw in the high school being burned and Emily's step mother Naomi turning up missing for many days and you have a book that is pretty hard to put down.
Everything gets sorted out in the end by Emily with help from Sherlock and Olivia. Through in a Christian undercurrent and you have a good book for you or your kids to read.
Fourteen year-old Emily O'Reilly and Olivia Webster, Emily's best friend, have a love for solving mysteries together. When Emily and Olivia go through Olivia's mom's hope chest they find shocking news. They find Olivia's adoption certificate and baby photos. The girls are shocked that Olivia was adopted and the did not even know it. They go on a quest to find her birth mother. When Emily and her search and rescue training dog, Sherlock, are training a fire breaks out at her school. During all this Emily's birth mom came in town to spend time with her after she got out of jail. Days later Emily's beloved stepmother, Naomi disappeared and they don't know why. They launch a search party to find Naomi. Emily has to learn to trust God and people. She needs to uncover the mysteries presented to her. Colleen Coble draws readers in with her kind and loving characters. This book appeals to tween girls who enjoy Christian Fiction.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so I was looking forward to reading this one. Search and Rescue dogs are so impressive and fascinating, so it was fun to read about Samson, Charley and Sherlock and learn more about SAR dogs.
This book had a couple of really strong mysteries going on and lots of good lessons woven seamlessly into the story. While I liked the first book better, I still really enjoyed Lost and Found and hope there will be more books in this series.
Emily and Olivia have a knack for solving mysteries. Emily is even training her dog to be a search and rescue dog. The story is filled with a lot of suspense that starts when the two girls find an old photo. Olivia knows nothing about being adopted, but the photo puts the girls in high gear to uncover the details surrounding her adoption.
I so enjoy these precocious 14 year olds and their families. The stoyline with the rescue and search dogs is something I think we don't think about much and I appreciate the training and skills needed. Great couple of twists in the story.
