Honor hurts…all the time. The doctors say she’s fine – it’s all in her head. But Honor feels pain. What she doesn’t know is…it’s not her pain– it’s everyone else’s. Seventeen year-old Honor Stevens is not an ordinary teenager. Sure, she looks like one on the outside…but on the inside, there’s a whole world of pain going on. Honor is an empath. That means she can feel other people’s pain – like that of the girl who is about to be raped in the woods, or the girl who is dying of cancer, or her mom…who is suffering a heart attack. What she doesn’t know is what Ethan Sutherland comes to town to tell her – she can save these people. But at what cost? For every life Honor saves, she knocks years off her own. When Ethan comes looking for her, he isn’t counting on falling in love. Now that he has, he wishes he hadn’t told her about her abilities. Though he tries his best to talk her out of saving every soul, Ethan loses the battle – Honor’s too nice for her own good. Then there’s the matter of Ethan’s estranged, morally corrupt half-brother, Storm – he loves Honor too. And because Honor is intrinsically empathic, she’s aware of Storm’s softer side and begins falling for him as well. When the two brothers are forced to work together against a group of evil empaths who are after Honor, they need to put their differences aside and focus on saving the one girl they both love. A Touch of Honor is a paranormal love story of a different kind. In a world gone mad with vampires and werewolves, A Touch of Honor tugs at the heartstrings with a girl out to heal the world…one person at a time.
J.P. Grider is a New Adult and Young Adult author who is a sucker for a good love story - whether it's reading one or writing one. And when she's not reading or writing a fairy tale, she's living one.
Empaths, they’ll drive you crazy with an emotional roller coaster. J.P Grider takes her emphatic characters through feelings that double up because of their own nature. She did a great job at pushing these emotions out to her audience without making one sick of them. Instead they pulled me from one chapter to the next. Honor the lead protagonist of the story jumps in to save those that were close to death, even though it would shorten her life, Because of her nature she could never say no to helping someone. You want to tell her to stop, but at the same time you want her to heal those in pain. J.P Grider makes us want both things to happen and in a sense gives us an inside look to what it means to be an empath and the choices they have to make. I Thoroughly enjoyed A Touch of Honor and would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something refreshing and original to read.
Honor has been to doctors and they can never find what is wrong with her. She hurts all the time and there is no reason why. It isn't until a new boy shows up at school that she finds out why. Ethan seems to be always watching her and it after she confronts him she finds out she is an empath. She can feel when other people are sick and more importantly she can take it away from them. It comes at a price every time she heals she takes time away from her life. Ethan wishes he hadn't told her as she wants to help everyone she can and he has falling in love with her. Storm Ethan's brother also shows up at the school. He has a darker side and is connected to some very bad people. Bad people who want something Honor doesn't even know she has and for darker reasons. While Ethan doesn't like Storm and wants Honor to stay away she can't help be close to him as she sees a side of him no one else does or can. The brothers must work together to keep her safe and keep her from giving her life up.
Honor is such a sweetheart. You can not help but like her. She is so good it just shines thru the pages at you. She wants to help everyone she can no matter how they have treated her. Usually people with powers have to watch so they don't use them to do bad, with Honor you have to make sure she doesn't kill herself for others. Ethan is so protective of Honor and he does love her. My only fault with him is at times it seems he wants to keep her locked away so he can keep her away from everyone so she doesn't throw her life away.Storm have to say i love the bad boy here. Looking at him thru Honor's eyes you get to see the good in him and see who he really is.
I really enjoyed this book! The characters are wonderful and it is nice to read a book about a different subject. You really get into the story very easily and it flows very nicely. You feel like you are in Honor's shoes as she has to decide if it is worth it to save people and as she tries to stay safe her self. She really only wants to help everyone and at times she puts her self in danger. There is an element of danger as people are hunting for Honor for dark reasons. The love triangle while I know this puts many people off I really did enjoy this one. I think because of the type of person Honor is you really get to see how hard it is not to be put in this situation. I think most people who want a good clean book with some great characters and a different paranormal thing will enjoy this. I look forward to seeing where this series goes.
A Touch of Honor (The Honor Trilogy #1) Author: J.P. Grider Theme: Paranormal (Teen Romance)
Honor Stevens is no ordinary seventeen year old girl, whom struggles daily with constant physical pain. Doctors run tests and scans and find nothing. Ethan Sutherland the new mysterious loner boy at school with blonde hair and violet eyes that always seem to be staring constantly at Honor. After one day at school Honor suffers from an intense migraine and fed up with Ethan’s constant stares, she confronts him. ”What is it you want from me?” Honor beginning to feel fear rise up her throat. Ethan nods. “I want to be sure you’re okay,” he says to her softly. “Really? You’ve been watching me and following me in the hallways…and…in the library parking lot just staring at me when I was walking in these past two days..just to make sure I am okay?” His head drops in shame. “You saw me…at the library?” “Yes.” “And you didn’t report me for following you?” he asks, looking back up with a smile pasted on his face. From that moment on a friendship develops. Spending a lot of time together Honor opens up to Ethan and tells him everything. Ethan helps Honor discover that she’s an empathy, feeling other peoples pain. Feelings deepen and grow between the two and Etan’s older brother Storm shares the same feelings his brother feels for Honor. This irritates Ethan and warns Honor. I got lost in this story every time I read more and more that I can actually picture it as I read further, feeling real.
I got lost in this story every time I read more and more that I can actually picture it as I read further, making it so real . J.P. Grider’s “A Touch of Honor” takes you into her world with her character’s and scenes that get you hooked. I was floored by J.P. Grider’s creativity skills in keeping me interested in reading til the last page and succeeded. I highly recommend this book to any one up for a great story, this you must read.
What would you do if you could feel peoples pain? How would you feel if you knew you could stop that pain, but in doing so, you knock years of your own life?
Honor is an empath, and that's the situation she's in.
Unfortunately, the story didn't catch my attention, and i ended up bored though most of the book.
Honor was a good person. There aren't many people who would save someone they didn't like, knowing that it would knock years off their own life. Though, i really wanted to shout at her at times.
She wrote notes in class about what was happening to her, completely forgetting the fact that she could actually get caught.
The whole romance between Honor and Ethan annoyed me. She found him creepy at first, but then fell in love with him quickly after. I found Ethan to be a bit too protective. I understand he was trying to save her from an early grave, but i doubt he would like it if she told him who he could touch all the time.
The revelation with Storm was quiet good, but it wasn't enough to make me want to read a sequel.

A very original story line, this book would have been brilliant if it weren't for the fact that it read as if its for a much younger person, it's content is really suited to teen audiences. I loved the idea but the execution was a let down, this could have been a great book and the second and third probably do make up for the first but it still ends up a short story.
I did read the first book in under two hours and after falling in love with the blurb i though it would be full of intrigue, suspense and mystery but its all simple and predictable so far, you know the plot even before you start the first page. There's very little lead up to her discovery of her power and there very little growth of characters. Honor is quite frankly a cry baby and Ethan is a controlling stalker. Its all a bit of a let down and a shame. Would of loved to see a bit more of background shown more on Honor's parents, more on Honor saving Tamilyn and more on summers death not just casual mentions but a chapter on the actual events. loved all the empath details and the family drama but not the cliche phrases and repetitive conversations.
Its a nice book but i'm of the opinion that there are just so many love triangle books out there and i hope when i read A man of Honor that it's a bit more sedately paced. It's odd to go from thinking Ethan is a stalker to having a crush on him and becoming his boyfriend so quickly. Not the best example to set to readers. It will be nice to see things from Storms side in book two. Also to see how honor handles both boys and her new found knowledge and abilities. Its a good book but more depth would make it great. Over all I've only read book one and not sure if i want to buy the others on my kindle or not. It would be more suited for younger audiences probably pre-teen is best suited to this style. I have to say though, that the story is a great one for someone who's not 22. It would also be a great movie series as its not 'simple' so much as subtle. would love to see it in motion as i think it would be a hit.
"Storm Sutherland is still trying to ignore the fact that he’s fallen for Honor Stevens. And now that she’s gone and brought him back to life, it’s even more difficult to get her out of his mind. With Ethan and Honor still going strong, Storm battles between his impulses to win her heart, regardless of his brother’s feelings, or walk away, leaving the only girl who’d ever breathed life into him. But before he walks away, he must find a way to stop the man who is out for Honor’s blood, the result of a two-hundred year old vengeance against her grandfather that Honor must pay.
Will Storm come up with a plan to end this war before she pays the price?" But before he walks away, he must find a way to stop the man who is out for Honor’s blood, the result of a two-hundred year old vengeance against her grandfather that Honor must pay. Will Storm come up with a plan to end this war before she pays the price?"
I've just received my copy's of book's two and three in the post. I have just read half way through A man of honor - presently i find it to be vastly better than its predecessor. I like Storm even if he is portrayed as a 'slightly superior, jerk' he's now more 'human' forgive the pun and he's been developed more as a character with more simple emotions and hopes for the future that most people struggles to comes to grips, with at some point in their life. I look forward to finishing this book and the next, finding out the conclusion to this intriguing story. The book is great and i love the plot so far, the writing is easy to follow and for it's target audience - young adults it is suitably penned and engaging, if a little bit rambled, as if it's a direct link to Storms thoughts. Slightly scrambled and confused yet the meaning and message is clear and concise. we know what he wants even when he struggles to choose. The 'arc' is unfolding well and at a steady pace with time between to let you guess as the next move of the characters.
I just read the rest of book two- it was good. The fierce protection Storm has for Honor has given Me hope for book three and I and interested in how it will play out. I'm glad there was a change in direction between the characters and the development in them being more relate-able to. I find that a book is more captivating if we see something of out self in it. It tugs at us, makes us ask how someone else would act in a similar situation or circumstance. Such as a loss in the family, conflicting emotions, dealing with another's pain. I would say there is some language in the book depending on your attitude to it that is a little mature, mostly it's 'clean' but as a side note it's worth mentioning.
Seeing how things resolve in book three will be fun. I just spent four hours straight reading book two through - i honestly could not put it down, and will probably stay up late to read book three.
I also have to say that these books are gorgeous, i love the covers and the copies i have are lovely, perfect size and well spaced. They haven't creased along the spine yet though may in time after multiple reads. Just right for lounging on the couch and diving into.
Heart of Honor "IN ORDER FOR HONOR TO SURVIVE, WHO WILL MAKE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE? When confronted with Honor’s mortality, Ethan finds his rusty empathic powers are no match for the damage that's already been done to Honor’s heart - if she doesn’t find a donor, Honor will die. In the third and final book of The Honor Trilogy, teenage empath Honor Stevens is fighting for her life, while her first love Ethan Sutherland and his half-brother Storm Sutherland are fighting to keep her alive. But even if a donor is found before Honor’s heart gives out, Ethan’s worst fear has come true – the government has been made aware of Honor’s healing abilities and now they have come to take her away. Both Ethan and Storm have to make sacrifices to save Honor from both her fates, but who will make the ultimate sacrifice?"
As I'd hoped for 'A heart of Honor' is a brilliant book. I would not say it's a conclusion to the series in truth, as it did leave me with a few questions, but the direction of the book feels so different from the first of the series that it's like reading a whole new story. I liked it because the arc was more developed, more than the love triangle route many books get stuck in, this book made you feel. The emotions and plot where written in such a realistic and understandable way (ignoring the 'supernatural' powers bits) that you knew straight away what was going on, you could understand the characters and make a guess where things where moving to in the plot. Though there where some unexpected twists that had me hanging on to the book longer to get past certain events. One so much i missed my bus stop, but worth the return trip. I also liked how something so supernatural was so eloquently and naturally portrayed: Empaths, souls, ghosts and the like, many people straight up turn their noses up when you mention anything out of the ordinary but this book, or this Author really has written it in such a way that you could see it being real, and normal. I loved the interaction between Honor and Storm near the end in relation to this, it was bittersweet and heart-warming to read. The bad now, Mostly I just didn't want it to end, i put off reading it a little just so i could spend longer on it. Alone the three books are short and quick reads, reading them sequentially i stretched it out a bit over a few days. My main issue is the unanswered questions i had in the last few chapters things are brought up that really are not explored- The safety of the brothers, the new children, Ethan's future (is touched on but more would be nice), Tamilyn and Shelby arc's ran a bit dry by the end. I hope that a fourth book (???? :) ) is in the future, maybe a book set in the future with Ethan or one of the other Sunderland boys?? We could catch up with Honor and Storm from again another perspective?? I'm not sure but even reading the last few pages of book three these just jumped out at me.
I loved the idea of empathy and the healing of others it fit well together, as well as the eventual strain on Honor's own health and the Government finding out. It all fit neatly together by the end i was hooked. The relationships side added a needed depth and realism to it that made it relate able to for the reader - young adults. I found that by the middle of book three i just suddenly clicked into the writing style, which is more teen language than I'm used to, it took a little effort before but i found the style suited the story, characters and audience well. Over all i found the books to be very good and would defiantly recommend them.

(Source: Downloaded for free from Amazon.co.uk.) 17-year-old Honor has had a constant headache for months, and she’s about to find out that it’s because she’s an empath – and she feels other people’s pain. What does being an empath mean though? Can she really heal people with her hands? And what will happen if she does?
This was an okay paranormal story, but aspects of it were just not good.
I’m a little bit torn over this one, because while I thought it held promise, there was also parts of this that were just ridiculous.
Honor was a girl who couldn’t bear to see others suffer, and wanted to take away people’s pain, even when it meant sacrificing her own health and life in the process. I thought this was quite noble, but unfortunately it is also a bit stupid. Why cut years off your own life to save the life of someone who has made your life a living hell for so long?
The romance in this book was okay, although Honor went from thinking that Ethan was some crazy stalker, to having a crush on him really quickly. It was literally ‘Go away. You crazy stalker.’, and then the next day ‘I was starting to develop a massive crush on Ethan.’ Other than him comforting her briefly over a sick teacher, very little had actually happened between them between her telling him that he was a stalker, and her suddenly liking him! This was all just a bit sudden for me.
There were also some lines in this book that were just bizarre, I mean really;
"Ethan" I quaver; I'm so on the verge of tears right now. He knows I'm a loner.
WHAT?! How is being called a loner a good thing?
"My head throbs, my bones ache, my chest hurts"....."It's all good though."
"He just killed her? How?" "With his bare hand." "Oh my gosh. Can't you call the cops now?" "It was seven years ago. There was never any case. Our family tended to live under the radar. My parents didn't want anyone to find out about us."
What? So they just let him kill their daughter and then covered it up?
This book did hold promise for me, but the execution was just off, and although I thought the story was slightly better in places, I still found it a bit difficult to look past stuff like this: "We sort of buried the dead bodies under some brush. Hopefully they'll stay hidden for a while."
I think a different author or a more experienced author could have probably made this storyline work, and this book could have been good, but in its current state, it’s just not there yet. Overall; an okay paranormal story, but it has its flaws. 5 out of 10.
What if you could heal whomever you chose to touch?
Honor's parents have home schooled her since she was little because when she is around others, she gets very sick. Her bones actually ache. Keeping to herself is not going to work this last year of high school though. Honor quickly saves a girl from being raped because she could literally feel it happening, as if to her. They quickly become friends but still Honor is at a loss as to why she is in pain all the time.
Ethan is always looking at Honor, he wants to talk to her, he wants to date her, but Honor can't figure out why this hot guy is so vested in her. After all everyone else thinks she is a freak. When the two finally talk, Honor quickly finds out that she is an em-path who can heal others that are sick or hurting with just a simple touch. Pretty cool right? The clincher is.... the more she heals others, the more chances are that she will die young. When she heals others, she takes on their pain and eventually her body will fail her or so Ethan claims.
I found myself extremely caught up in this story, and the twists and turns Honor's and Ethan's lives take. The relationship they form together is real and undeniable. Until one day, Ethan's brother Storm who he can't stand, signs up for high school. Then things really heat up. Honor finds herself attracted to Storm but still feels a strong emotional connection with Ethan. She can't figure out where her feelings lie and if she really cares or if her em-path abilities are just confusing her further.
Such a fast moving, non-stop heart pounding story of a girl who can save people from pain but then suffers the consequences of her actions. The author J. P Grider does an amazing job in this first book of a three part trilogy. Although I am only reviewing book one for this blog tour, let me just say... the rest of the series is just as good as this first installment.
"He asks, and I literally feel his hurt deep in my heart. Storm is hurting and I don't want to make it worse, though I cannot explain why."
Lovers of the paranormal will eat this novel up for its true to life mix of high school with a paranormal flair. Readers who enjoy young adult will devour the love triangle that ensues with Honor, Ethan and Storm. Finally, you fantasy readers will enjoy this book for its amazing and detailed story of an em-path who can't decide between saving herself or others.
At first glance Honor is just like every teenage student going through every day teenage worries, but Honor is different she feels everyone else's pain. Honor doesn't realise this until the hot 6ft something Ethan comes along, Honor had always thought that it was her that was ill, she is infact an empath, not only can she feel their pain but also remove it from them.
Honor and Ethan soon become an item as he tries to help her deal with her emotions, this doesn't run smooth especially when Ethan's evil brother Storm turns up (this bit reminds me of the Vampire Diairies), Honor is torn as she doesn't believe Storm is as evil as Ethan makes out. Storm also brings news that a mysterious empath wants something that was left to Honor by one of her relatives. This starts Honor, Ethan and Storm on a course to find the item left to Honor.
As this book is told from Honors point of view in parts of the book I did feel sorry for her as she struggled with her powers and with her selflessness of wanting to make everyone better, in other parts she was annoying and I just wanted to give her a slap, but I guess all teenagers are annoying at some point.
I liked Honors quirky friend Tamsin, Ethan and Storm were both likeable characters, I like complexity of Storm and felt sorry for him as his story unfolded.
It didn't quiet grab me as much as Twilight or The Vampire Diairies, I was disappointed at that but it really started getting interesting at the end, building the story up of not just the love triangle between Honor, Ethan and Storm, by the end I had to continue to find where the story went.
I admit that I was disappointed with A Touch of Honor. When I found it one Goodreads, I was really excited because it had such an interesting premise. I don't think I have ever read a book with an empath as a main character before, so that really appealed to me. When I finally got it and had time to read it, I knew it wasn't going to be a book that I loved. First of all, the writing style was not for me. The way the author tried to imitate the way teenagers talk was completely unrealistic. Being a teenager myself, I know that we sometimes talk in weird slang but no one talks in the way the author portrayed it. I like how J.P Grider tried to incorporate that in order to make it more realistic and capture young readers' attention but it had a negative effect for me. Secondly, I really didn't connect to any of the characters. If they died I would have felt sad, but there wouldn't have been any onslaught of tears and anger. This also brings me to the romance of this novel. While the romance between Ethan and Honor wasn't horrible, I did not like the love triangle between them and Storm (Ethan's brother). I am still debating whether or not to read the second one since I was sorely let down by this one.
This book was painful to read. I wish I could give it no stars. The writing really was not good and I had to force myself to finish reading. Thank goodness it was a short book. I really dislike it when an author tries to write like teenager talks. "Yo, man...ya gotta listen to me" "D'ya understand? We're gonna do it this way.." You don't need to write like that to capture the young adult's mind. Similarly, several times throughout the book the author wrote "Effin". This is a book for teens, if you want your character to swear, then just swear, otherwise leave it all out. I really didn't care for any of the characters. I made no connections to them at all. I was sure glad I didn't pay for this one. I got it while it was free on amazon.
I love the premise of this story line I have yet to read a paranormal book where the main characters are empaths. I really liked how honest the author was in her approach to Honor's feelings, yes she can readily accept what she is, after years of doctors telling her there is nothing wrong with her, here is finally an answer. Unlike other heroines in stories she is able to be a girl and be confused and cry, have temper tantrums, and still be a strong interesting character. The relationship between the brothers are volatile at best, there is strong mistrust between the brothers and a short life time of hurt, but they are willing to work together to help save Honor from the bad guys. I bought this book because I won the 2nd book via Goodreads First reads giveaway. I don't think this is a series I would have normally picked up, but it is a good read. For me, it tends to be a little on the younger side (yes I know its 'young adult'); Honor's age certainly shows, with her feelings going back and forth between Ethan and Storm..She made me roll my eyes a few times and want to shake her, but I guess that means her character also pulled me in. I do need to know how this will all end with the men out to get Honor, and the relationship(s).. Book 2 and 3 here I come.
The synopsis of this story was the most interesting part. The story is too choppy to really flow easily. There were also parts of the story that moved you to quickly from one scene to the next. In some parts it felt more like an outline of a story than an actual book. The empathic thing had the potential to be really interesting, but this book just kind of fell flat. The story line as well as the characters were very one dimensional and they stay that way though the entire book. I am glad it was a free book, that way all i was out was time.
Honor is no ordinary teenager. She feels pain on the inside and outside. Honor is an empath.
An empath feels others pain and she can save lives but her life is put in danger each soul she saves. Evil of a different kind weaves through the circle. Will she be able to battle between the love between both brothers, Ethan and Storm? Will she survive or find immortality to save more lives?
This series is a love triangle with a paranormal twists. Fall in love with Ethan, Storm and Honor.
Some really Cheesy parts in this book like romance novel cheesy. I felt like I was missing large chunks of this book. First off girl with violet eyes Honor has super powers learns about them from a guy like her. More drama of the high school variety. Saves her friends and her enemies. I feel like she is a really great heroine in that way super forgiving of those who are terrible to her. It is an enchanting fun, quick novel can't wait for a sequel.
A Touch of Honor was a easy quick read. It was overall a good book especially for young adults. It definitely has a different story line than most books out now which is a nice change, but I see a love triangle in the future. I liked almost all of the characters in the book but unfortunately I didn't really like Ethan. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and can't wait to see what happens next.
I chose this rating because it was the best book I've ever read its very passionate,it has romance, fiction it's a very heart warming book.I would recommend this book to ever person who feels like they know what love is but don't know really and who loves romance. I love this book and I think you will love it too. Also if your sad or start to cry and you don't know why maybe you could be felling other people's pain...............
I'm on chapter 13 and I find Honour irritating. The story is poorly executed. Dialogue is painstakingly boring. It could have been so much better. More passionate, gripping, entertainingvand interesting but its very slow paced.
I'm going to persevere but its tipping of 2 starts at the moment.
Update: I finished book 1. I have books 2 and 3 but I have no interest in reading them
I probably would have enjoyed this more if the dialoge didn't seem so forced, it also seemed to me that the author was forcing Honor and Ethan together. I mean come on Ethan goes from creepy, to friend, to the love of Honor's life in the course of a few days. That really doesn't ring true to me. I also noticed that for one sentence it changed from first to third person! Editing is useful. Use it!
What great book! It was so easy to read, very quick. The story line kept you thinking and wondering what would happen next. Can't figure out if I'm team Ethan or team storm yet....patiently waiting for books #2 & #3! Nice job JP grider!
