Since I can't figure out how to add comments, I want to assure folks that there will be more Will Trent books coming up. I hope y'all enjoy Cop Town in the meantime. I just love Will and Sara so much that I want to make sure I always tell the best stories for them. Sometimes that takes more thinking time than others. Stay tuned!

Before starting this book, I was heading into a reading rut...but I have learned that whenever I feel myself slipping into a reading rut, to pick up a Karin slaughter book. It works every time!

Ive been skimming this book once again before starting The Kept Woman tomorrow with some lovely ladies.

This book.....this series is AMAZING! I cannot recommend it enough.

At the end of September I started this series. I had no idea if I was going to like it or not. I had never read Crime Fiction before and didn’t know what to expect. I love Romantic Suspense but these books were definitely different. There really wasn’t any romance at all in the first two books. Well, there was some but nothing like what I was used to.

By book #3 I realized that it didn’t matter one bit. Where the romance was lacking, the strength in the characters and the depth in the plots made up for it. And this continued throughout book #4, #5, #6 and #7. With each book everything got better. With each book the plot was unique. Karin Slaughter continued to reveal just a little bit more of each of the characters teasing you with information from their past and giving you smidgens of what the future might be.

Unseen was perfectly written. Of course that is just my humble opinion. By now you all know that I have fallen head over heels in love with this fictional book character Will Trent. He is perfectly damaged, quirky, funny, loyal to a fault and sexy in a way that even he himself doesn’t even realize.



For once in Will’s life things may actually be going his way at least for the moment. His relationship with Sara is new and still being defined but he is finally happy. And his relationship with Angie has completely unraveled as it should have. She was poison.

But the new case that Will is working on crosses a line that he and Sara were not prepared for. Will is unable to stop the storm that is about to roll in and he is holding on by a thread. He needs Sara in his life. He can’t go back to the way it was.



The past is never easy to face and Sara is struggling to let go and move on. Anger has a way of eating away at you until it is the only thing you know. When a crisis brings her back to her past, the events that happen not only dredge up her past but it threatens her future.



Once again Karin Slaughter gives us her all. In Unseen we have Lena back and Jared too. Things get ugly really fast. There is heartache and pain. There is a feeling of loss and an ache for happiness. Faith and Amanda were present but more so in the shadows. This one was about Will and Sara. And I loved it. Every painstakingly I don’t know if I can take anymore minute of this book. ❤



And now I wait. I wait for book # 8 The Kept Woman. The expected publication date is July 2016 which is completely dreadful. Ugh……

Oh and one last thing. I’m going to put it in a spoiler for fear it might be a spoiler for some. This might sound silly but this song has been stuck in my head. I always think of Will and Sara when I hear it. I’ve dubbed it “their” song. If you have read the story you will get it.

Karin Slaughter.. you sure know how to get me all riled up! Right when I said that I was ready to move on and leave the past in the past you bring it back. How could you?! (Baah!)

Detective Lena Adams is now a Police Officer with the Macon, Georgia Police Department. Her husband Jared Long is also a Police Officer with the Department. Lena, as you may recall, was once a Detective in Grant County, Georgia. Her past is both traumatic and sordid and somehow, someway, trouble always finds her. Even after trying to make a fresh start with her husband in Macon - it happens again, when armed men break into her home and start shooting.

Will Trent is an Agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He is currently working undercover as an ex-con on a case he can’t even disclose to his girlfriend, Dr. Sara Linton. Yes, that Sara Linton, formerly of Grant County, who has a past with Detective Lena Adams.

Why oh Why, Karin Slaughter did you do this to me? Pitting Lena and Sara against each other yet again? Bringing all those emotions? (It’s not like I’m actually over what happened, but I’ve been trying!)

So here’s me, texting Kaceey (my trusted book buddy, who's already read this entire series and who finds my texting her my feelings over Sara and Lena (and Will and formerly Jeffrey)) extremely amusing:

Kaceey: How are you?
Susanne: Ok here, except for being emotionally exhausted over Sara and Lena! 🤦🏻‍♀️🥴🙈. So, Sara goes to the hospital to see Jared, and Lena is in his hospital room. Sara and Lena therefore, see each other for the first time in 5 years.
Lena says: “Sara.. I can’t.. I can’t. I can’t live without him.”
Sara’s response: “Good. Now you know how it feels.”
Susanne: Really?! I mean. REALLY?!?

Lena had a horrible childhood. Her sister Sybil died. She was raped! Because of all of that she got involved with a bad man, Ethan, who was physically and verbally abusive. What happened to Jeffrey was not her fault! She’s a good cop. Hot headed and stubborn, yes, but a good cop. I don’t know yet what happened to Jared, but I am betting that it wasn’t her fault either. Sara is a selfish 💩!
Why am I the only person on the planet that actually sees that Lena has been a victim her whole life? Why am I the only person who actually likes her?

Now, I realize that this is FICTION. However, Sara is NOT perfect, though she pretends to be. That said, she judged Jeffrey (a lot), she judges Will, when he neglects to tell her things and of course, she judges everything Lena does. Yet, Sara is having an affair with a married man and has been for years now… that is all.

Anyhow, aside from the Sara/Lena storyline, Unseen was a taut thriller, involving both a police investigation and an investigation by the GBI. It completely captured my attention and made for a fantastic mystery/suspense. I like Will and his partner Faith Mitchell investigating cases with Detective Lena Adams - it’s too bad there’s drama involved. Baawaahh!

I am betting that everyone else’s reviews focused on the mystery/suspense aspect.. so I hope you’ve enjoyed my take on this fabulous thriller! I, for one, hope that this will be Ms. Slaughter’s last “Sara/Lena” installment for a while. My heart can’t take it!

I have to admit I hoped Karin Slaughter was finished with Lena's character, because I basically can't stand her. She's cruel to the ones she loves, being unwilling or unable to give anyone a break. Her personality for me can be illustrated by the fact that in the first book of the Grant County series, she feels no sympathy for women who are raped. Granted, she is just as tough on herself, but she is a hard woman to be around, especially for those who care about her. That being said I don't think she was responsible for Jeffrey's death.

In this one, Lena seems to be back to her old patterns, creating a swath of destruction in her path. A raid has gone terribly wrong and some colleagues got killed and her husband is knocking on death's door after he and Lena get ambushed at home. Will must figure out what's going on, as he is working undercover in the same town. Will is keeping secrets from Sara too and she is hurt and lonely. This was a fine mystery, that I almost figured out for once before the shocking denouement.

I'm too tired to do a proper review. Great book. Looking forward to more of Will and Sara.

This was number seven in the Will Trent mysteries, and out of all of her books (and for those of you who follow my reviews, you know I adore her) it was my least favorite. The plot was hard to follow, and the story was done rather like a patchwork quilt. I had to try hard to keep up with what was going on. Still, the characters were full and vibrant, and there was plenty of action to be had. Number eight was wonderful (I accidentally read it after number one), and her newest novel is coming out Tuesday, and has already received high marks for those who have read it. I'm keeping the faith, and am going to jump on reading that just as quickly as I can! 3.5 stars rounded down for this installment though.

Will Trent is undercover as ex-con Bill Black, working at a hospital in Macon, Georgia. Lena Adams is now working as the lead detective for the Macon Police Department's tactical unit and is trying to takedown a notorious drug dealer. The two collide when two thugs try to kill Lena and her husband, Jared Long, in their home, seriously wounding him. Jared is Sara Linton's stepson from her marriage to his biological father, Jeffrey Tolliver. She's got to once again face the woman she holds responsible for getting Jeffrey killed.

This story was outstanding on several levels. First, the case was a poser because of the elusive kingpin, Big Whitey, who is supposedly heading a major criminal enterprise reaching beyond the county into several major cities. They're not even sure if he's a myth or real and discovery of his identity is crucial. Next, the story begins with the assault on Lena and Jared and then works backward, looking at prior events that may have precipitated the attack. Also, the showdown between Sara and Lena has been years in the making, fraught with extreme emotions and pain. Lastly, Will and Sara face the most serious challenge to their relationship to date. All of these issues are woven together brilliantly, never leaving me bewildered or burdened by the complexity.

I was frankly fascinated, hanging on to every sentence because they were so meaningful. The narrator, Kathleen Early, is perfection as she never gets in the way of the story that needs no drama or extraordinary emphasis. There were so many twists and unforeseen outcomes that the suspense almost did me in. Typical of this author, the ending left me so conflicted I was ready to jump right into the next book. This series is pretty incredible.

I felt a little let down by Unseen. Usually the Grant County and Will Trent books by Karin Slaughter are excellent crime thrillers, featuring gripping investigations by Will and Dr Sara Linton. This time around the investigation stalled for much of the book, as the focus was shifted to the return of Detective Lena Adams, last seen a couple of books ago. Lena and Sara have a full on feud going, and this is the book where it all comes to a head. Sara blames Lena for the death of her husband, and when tragic events draw them together, the fireworks start up.

Sadly, I am not such a fan of this long burning feud. It has gone on too long, and although I did enjoy some of the scenes between Sara and Lena, I really wanted the focus to move away from those two and onto the investigation which has Will undercover, trying to break into a drug trafficking organization. I recognize that as far as the series is concerned, it was necessary to have the collision between Lena and Sara, but I feel that the weighting of that versus the investigation wasn’t correctly proportioned this time, which is truly unusual for this author.

When the focus finally shifted into the investigation, my interest picked up and the pages flew by. Double dealing, dirty cops, human trafficking, violent crime... it got pretty exciting. I feel sad that there were very few clues to pick up though, and I didn’t feel that it was possible to piece them together and theorize on the real story, which is something I very much enjoy usually from Karin Slaughter reads. A number of chapters focused on days preceding a pivotal raid, and these were illuminating but also infuriating; they were positioned in such a way to initially cut the pace and then rapidly drive up my anticipation. The following chapters generally had little to do with them, and went on too long to sustain my enthusiasm for the plot developments. I suppose what I am trying to say is that, for me, a great story has moments of rise and fall in pace, but there were too many little peaks and long troughs here.

The previous book in the series, Criminal, was absolutely excellent, and I would strongly encourage fans of crime thrillers to start up this series if they haven’t already, with the totally chilling Blindsighted. Unseen is a rare dip in quality from my favourite author and I hope that the next book will see a return to form; this book didn’t feel quite done yet. Perhaps though the characters have reached a point where it simply isn’t possible to run an investigation like they used to; a lot of water has passed under the bridge now. I will keep my fingers crossed for the next installment because even a slightly sub-par story from Karin Slaughter is still miles better than the closest competition.

Another book that many have enjoyed with a 4.2* rating that I thought was good and give it 3.5*. Since the book was written 12 years ago, it has been reviewed multiple times. I did not think it sounded dated but did have some issues that strained credulity of how hospitals and staff work. Child abuse, drugs, and murder (a bit graphic) are part of the plot. Excited to continue with the series.

Bill Black was deeply involved in the drug culture in Macon, Georgia, when he went with a small time con man to stand watch at a house, while a burglary took place. But the house belonged to Lena and Jared, both Macon cops and when gunshots were fired, Black raced inside. Bill Black was actually Agent Will Trent from the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) and had been undercover for some time. But with Jared shot, close to death, and Lena traumatised, by his bedside in the hospital, Will struggled to maintain his cover.

Dr Sara Linton had immediately driven to Macon when Nell, Jared's mother, had phoned her. Once again Lena had led someone Sara loved into danger. But what Sara didn't know was that Will, the man she knew she loved, was working the same case that Sara had now become attached to. Danger was following Bill Black and while he tried to remain in tough con mode, being beaten senseless made it difficult...

Unseen is the 7th in the Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter and it was another intense, electrifying thriller, hard to put down. Corruption was rife, danger was close at hand. Will Trent is an admirable character and I'm looking forward to #8 soon. Recommended.

I can't believe I made it through the whole series! Well, almost. Still waiting on another release!

This was another fabulous episode in the life of Will Trent. I cannot express to you how much I love this man. He is ... everything. What a wonderful character Karin Slaughter has created.

These stories are intense, I can't imagine having a job where your bad day at work leaves you DEAD, or worse. One thing these books have made me realize is that police officers are highly underpaid.



Unseen takes us back to Macon, Georgia and the dysfunctional life of Lena Adams. Will is investigating undercover this time as the elusive Bill Black, and on a motorcycle to boot... fuck yeah.



The case is complicated. So much so, that I had a hard time keeping up. There are quite a few players, and they are playing very dirty. The bad guys are uneducated rednecks, sadists and pedophiles. I don't know anyone who would want to die at the hands of an ignorant redneck.

Will and Sara's relationship has progressed. They are both deeply involved. The "L" word is definitely in the works now. But Will's new assignment has him lying to Sara right off the bat.



And he knows the mistake he's making is going to destroy him in the end. Because if he loses Sara, he loses everything.

"Sara, please - "

I don't really like Lena Adams all that much. Her husband, Jared Long... yes. Faith was present, but only in the periphery. Amanda even less so. the story was a bit confusing. But it all worked out in the end.

“I can’t—” Lena repeated. “I can’t do it. I can’t live without him.”
Sara gently pulled her hand away from Jared’s. She smoothed down the sheet, tucked it in close around his side. She looked at Lena—really looked at her straight in the eye.
“Good,” Sara told her. “Now you know how it feels.”

I am really looking forward to the next chapter in the series. I WANT MORE WILL!

I am beginning to think that Slaughter can do no wrong when it comes to writing these gritty crime books!

Will Trent is working undercover using the identity of Bill Black. He is posing as an ex-con motorcycle rider. He has a job working at the local hospital and has also gotten a job as a lookout for a home robbery (or so he is told). Will is back in Macon, Georgia Jeffrey Tolliver's home town.( Jeffrey from the Grant County series/ late husband of Will's girlfriend Sara). You know form this alone things are going to get messy. Even better...he can't or wont tell Sara where she is. He does not want her mixed into his undercover investigation.

Oh! But Wait! Lena is in this one. She is the Queen of Messy. She is married to Jeffrey's son, Jared and they both work on the police force there. Just knowing she lives there you KNOW the shit is going to hit the fan.

And it does. The SHIT hits the fan. The home robbery is actually Lena and Jared's home and Jared is shot which brings Sara to town. You just know this is going to be a cluster fuck. Sara blames Lena for her late husband's death. She blames Lena for Jared being in the hospital fighting for his life.

The usual suspects are in this one. With each book, I like Faith more and more. She is a strong woman who is taking no prisoners in this book. She can hold her own and kicks some ass in this book. Amanda continues to be her own strong self. I loved that Faith sees Lena the same way that Sara does.

I am not going to give the farm away for free. You need to read this book to get the story. It will help if you read the others in the Will Trent series first. Hell, start with Grant County so you get to see Sara in a previous life so to speak. This book did not disappoint. There are secrets, angry exchanges, allegiances, twists, turns, revelations and some romance. I have said it before and I will say it again, I love how we learn more and more about Trent with each book and there is character development.

It was so addictive but that's Karin slaughter for you , especially if you read Grant series the very long and painful history is very captivating ,i really think that the author enjoys torturing and messing with her characters which is great for us but bad for them... Anyway: I'm really glad i picked up this series .. Waiting for my next fix YO :0

Maybe because it has been a while, but I loved being back in the world of Will, Sara, and Lena and the very evil criminals that they always seem to find. Once I got started, I couldn't wait to keep reading this to find out what would happen.

This time Will is undercover in Macon, working maintenance at a hospital and trying to figure out who is behind the drugs in the community. Lena, a character who has appeared in earlier books, is now on the police force in Macon and she and Will cross paths.

Lena and her husband Jared are the victims of a brutal home invasion and Jared is now in the hospital fighting for his life. Jared happens to be Sara's stepson, so soon she is in Macon too and Will is avoiding her since she doesn't know he's undercover on the case.

Things are very complicated in this one as we get details on a raid and little pieces of the puzzle start to come together. Will seems to be battered over and over in this one and I worried that he might be seriously hurt. Sara and Will have a fiery confrontation and their relationship is in peril.

This one kept me engaged the whole time and I really enjoyed the time with Lena and hopefully she's finally at peace with Sara. I'm almost caught up in this series and I've enjoyed it immensely! I hope that Karin Slaughter has a new one coming soon with these characters!

Unseen, by Karin Slaughter, is the 7th book in her Will Trent series. Combined with her Grant County series it is one of my all-time favorites.
Unseen is an exceptional addition that's story focuses mostly on Will, an undercover GBI agent and Lena, a Macon County detective whose paths cross when all hell breaks loose.
Two investigations collide with intense and shocking twists and turns involving both sides of the law.
A dynamic cast of familiar characters, emotional rawness and spine-tingling suspense kept me on the edge of my seat and is everything a violent mystery/thriller should be.
I highly recommend this series!

Another great read from Karin slaughter,love the will trent series lena in trouble again and Sara blames her for her stepson Jared being attacked and seriously injured in an attack. lena gets the blame for what has happened Sara doesn't trust lena after the death of her husband,now in a relationship with will he goes undercover will Sara forgive him when she finds out.great series recommend her books best to start the grant county series first to know the characters.

“Detective Lena Adams...” Those are the first three words of Karin Slaughter’s Unseen, the seventh book in her Will Trent thriller series. “Uh-oh,” I thought, or perhaps it was, “Oh, no!” That’s because wherever Lena Adams goes, there is sure to be trouble. Lots and lots of trouble. Sure enough, there was mayhem and death, and some folks thought it was Lena’s fault. Dr. Sara Linton did. To say that she does not care for Lena Adams is the understatement of the century, and when the most recent fiasco hits Macon, Georgia, Sara is certain Lena is to blame.

In a curious coincidence, this is the second book of my last three thriller reads where a major investigator has uncharacteristically taken on an assignment to go undercover. In this case, it’s Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent Will Trent who poses as a motorcycle-riding ex-con who winds up in Macon. He must hide his mission from his lover Sara. Because Will already knows about the incident involving Lena and her husband Jared, he feels incredibly guilty for withholding information from Sara, but when Sara shows up in Macon to stand by Jared (her stepson) and his mother Nell, the situation becomes very tense.

Meanwhile, Will and his partner Faith Mitchell have their hands full tracking down the bad guys. They are drug dealers, thugs, and worse. Much, much worse. There is a name they keep hearing – Big Whitey. Some say he doesn’t exist; others swear he does. Can Will, AKA Bill Black, and the GBI track him down and shut down his operation before too many lives are damaged or lost?

What about Lena? In previous books she’s been in and out of trouble so many times it’s hard to count. Sara holds her responsible for her husband Jeffrey’s death, and now she’s married to his son, a son he didn’t know he had until it was almost too late. There is much to dislike about Lena, but I’ve always thought that she might turn her life around. Somehow, she manages to screw up most of the time, but there is a ray of goodness in her too. I may be in the minority, but I am always pulling for her to do something right for a change. Is this the time when it turns out right?

On the other hand, Sara Linton seems to be seen as the golden girl. Doctor. Married Jeffrey Tolliver, the sheriff. Can’t have children and is still heartbroken about that. Then Jeffrey was tragically killed. Poor Sara. Now life is good, isn’t it? She has Will. But she still seems to have a martyr complex. Still holds on to her anger and her grudges with a tightly clenched fist. I do like Sara. But I don’t love everything about her. Can she and Lena just learn to disregard each other? Can Sara accept Will’s assignment the way he would accept doctor-patient confidentiality? Of course, there is great fear there. She already lost her cop husband. She doesn’t want to lose another lawman to a duty-related incident, especially if Lena is somehow involved. But is she?


Ms. Slaughter builds so much intrigue. I gave up trying to guess who the mole might be, who Big Whitey might be, and what really happened the night of the raid. The author shows us bit by bit. She goes back and forth between past and present. There are some nasty dudes in this one. It wouldn’t be Slaughter without some vile, ugly scenes. I got a bit confused by some of the names toward the end. Cops and bad guys ran together, and since I was reading a hardcover version, I didn’t bother flipping through pages. By the end, I got the gist of it, and I was somewhat surprised. But I found that the answer didn’t really matter because I was really more into the characters. Will and Faith are such a great team. What about Denise Branson, the tough-acting major with the Macon police? Whose side is she really on? What happens to Lena and Jared? And Sara and Will – do they work things out? At what point will we accept that Will is just another agent? Yes, he had a terrible childhood and is dyslexic. He has been able to make adjustments for his shortcomings, but he is who he is. That doesn’t always work in his relationship; he tends to be very guarded. As this book ends, it sounds as if he may be ready to reveal some of those things he’s kept private. We shall see. I’m sorry it took me so long to get around to reading Unseen. Once I started, I finished it in three days. I look forward to reading The Kept Woman very soon.

So good!

Loved Sara and Will together!! The declarations, the understanding, the passion and desperation. Oh, my heart! And that was just the romance.

The mystery was pretty darn good, too! Had a different opinion of Lena Adams by the end. Some people do learn from their mistakes.

And thank you, thank you, thank you!!! : No Angie (HATE that bitch!!) in this one!! *throws confetti*

"You're going to stalk me?" He shrugged his shoulder, as if this was all a done deal.
"I love you."
Sara finally laughed. "Well, that's a really shitty way to say it."

Her response came as naturally as taking a breath before jumping into the deep end of the water.

4Stars - “I really liked it”! Review to follow.

Here is a “quickie” review because I have just noticed that I said “Review to follow” and I had not done so.
July 6, 2019 – I started listening to “Unseen”, only to put it back on the shelf on July 9 so I could listen to “Red Sister”, (19+ hours long), which I finished on July 18. (It was great!)
When I picked up "Unseen" again, I had to re-listen to almost the whole book as I had lost the plot, literally! It was 15:20 hours long and I listened to the remaining 09.00 Hours in literally one 'sitting', including lying down!
As I say in my initial comments above, it was a most enjoyable story, not as gorily blood-thirsty as some earlier Slaughter novels, and the finale was wrapped up in a most satisfactory manner. Of note was the narration by Penelope Rawlins of "#7, Unseen" which was far better than the readings by Jennifer Woodward in books #5 and #6.
The requirement to re-look at my notes and comments to write this skimpy review, has motivated me to re-think my first feelings about "Unseen", plus seeing the hearty 5-Stars awarded by a number of GR friends and those I follow, have all moved me to change my own 4-Stars up to 5-Stars.

Everything, everything, everything a violent crime thriller should be, and the best Slaughter book to date. I am even more irritated with The Shining Girls now. Grrrrr.

Even the good dudes are bad. If you want to study the cracks of our society, the miscreants that have taken away every good and decent character and sucked it into a giant black hole, leaving us with this dark void that hovers around like a bumblebee, then Karin Slaughter is an author that should probably appear on your radar, if she hasn’t already. Her characters ooze evil through their pores, and I can’t seem to contain my enjoyment for her novels. Not sure what that says about me, other than the fact that everyone has a bit of evil mixed in with the good. After all, it makes us human.

Her characters, on the other hand, thrive in the underbelly of humanity. With horror and terror and sins and misdeeds and law-breaking deviants leading the charge like some sick and tormented and suave serial killer, who may or may not go by Hannibal Lector. There’s a fine line between good and evil, and her characters dance all over this line like John Travolta in his heyday.

Running from your past isn’t an option, as Sara and Lena and Will prove in this suspenseful, lightning fast read. Just the right amount of the past mixed in with the appalling present kept me on the edge of my seat throughout much of this tale and kept me guessing until the end. The way these stories collide made for one spectacular fireworks display. And child abduction never felt as horrifying and realistic as it did painted on the pages of UNSEEN.

Equal parts mystery and thriller with more than enough substance to fill just over 400 pages, this is one scarily realistic read that caused me to question my definition of humanity.

I wasn't going to award UNSEEN with full marks because of the sheer amount of anxiety it gave me but I'm really happy with the way things turned out for a certain character who gave me a lot of grief in the Grant County series. And also because of the way things went down with Will and Sara in this one. Their relationship is so strong, even when they doubt it or think they doubt it, and the way they fought each other, fought for each other, was heartfelt and sexy and tender and swoons. This was a big chapter for them. So, yeah, maybe not as good as my last five'r but definitely topnotch.
