A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.
Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

The only argument in my defense is this book is like a trainwreck, you can't stop watching. In this case, reading.
Allie, the MC, along with her friend, Jess, accepts a job working in her father's hotel, in New Orleans.
Having previously said that she's done with guys - first or second page of the novel - of course the first thing she notices, when arriving at the hotel, is the hawt guy at the bar, Levi.
By now, I was pretty sure they were meant to be. Because I'm psychic, obviously. Shh.
Levi is the most obnoxious, infuriating, arrogant and frustrating jerk ever. He also can't take a bloody hint. Sure, she wants him. Yes, she's lying to herself when she says she doesn't. The lady doth protest too much, you get me? But you know, OUT LOUD, she actually says no, repeatedly. What more does he want?
Moving on. He orders for her, embarrasses her in front of her parents, lies to her and eventually puts her life in danger, but let's circle back to that later.
I didn't like Jess any better. She starts off as a ditzy kind of friend, a total slu..flirt and an irritating drunk. Guess what? By the time she's out of the picture, there's no character development whatsoever. Shocked? I know, baby, me too.
Characters and a proper, good, enjoyable characterization, really make a novel, but I can still partially enjoy it if, at least, the plot is interesting.
Sadly, Flight has little plot to speak of. Moreover, it doesn't rear its ugly head until close to the end.
I liked the lore, unbelievable as it was (bird-shifters at the top of the supernatural chain? Color me skeptic), but the way it was handled and the execution were poor and lacking.
Levi, Owen, Jarred and Hailey are all crow-shifters. After spending a couple of days with Allie, Levi decides to bring her in on the secret, because..I don't know. Because she's "beautiful" and he wants to get in her pants, I s'ppose.
Allie reacts like a normal person, freaks the fuck out and gets the hell out of dodge. ~The End~
..
Gotcha! No, I wish that was it, but no. She thinks it's cool. A couple of weeks pass and Levi gives her a gift, an old family heirloom, a ring with rubies. Which, of course, means she's been tricked to be his mate, can't take off the ring and can never leave New Orleans again, because people want her and she's in mortal danger.
She runs, she gets kidnapped, she gets saved.
I did appreciate Allie's character, for standing up for herself when it comes to calling out Levi on his lies and not forgiving him off the bat. My psychic powers tell me it's going to happen in the second installment, though.
Levi's reponse to Allie accusing him of putting her in danger? "I didn't put you in danger, you put yourself in danger by running away".
Jerk.Jerk.Jerk.Asshole.Possesive, asshole-y jerk! Oh, and liar.
He asks her for one more day, to try and convince her to stay.
Naturally, Allie - freaked and shaken as she is - says no and gets the hell out of dodge. ~The End~
...
She really doesn't.
..aaaand, venting finished!

Warning this review is very sarcastic, contains very mild spoilers & it basically just gifs.. It all starts out with a road trip to New Orleans, where Allie & Jess are working for the summer. Jess is a bit of an airhead.. constantly drooling after guys.. Allie seems to find it all a bit Then something happens with Jess & she ditches Allie to run back home.. great friend.. Allie & Levi hang out, get close.. he always has something to hide, always hold back.. yet she falls for him, leaving me asking So trying to appease her, her shares one of his many secrets.. she reacts like this.. Normal people would be like this.. So Levi & Allie continue the love connection.. Levi continues to hide like his entire life from her.. I think he needs to Then Levi surprises Allie but it turns out he is just being more of a douche! I mean she still doesnt even know what he works as.. though I have an idea.. *giggles* Cue bad stuff.. fighting, etc. When Allie & Levi try to talk it out, she is all Everyone is like, "come on Allie" And she does.. which leaves me thinking they are all a bunch of Now with such a random, sarcastic, verging on negative review you are thinking that i do not like this book.. but you are wrong And after you have read it, you can come back to this review and comment saying, "Wanderlust.. "
This was my first audio book and I feel like it was a total waste! Not only did the narrator sound like a robot, our leading lady is an absolute bitch! 1 & half stars.
It all starts with two best friends (Allie & Jess) on a road trip to New Orleans to Allie's dad's hotel, Jess ends up going home for a stupid reason, Allie stays for a guy but makes out it isn't because of him. Ends up in a sticky situation which I still don't understand why...
Allie acts like a super bitch to everyone, not only at one point does she say something like "you know your hair is the same colour as your car" to her new bestie and when the girl hits back "least my car isn't lilac" Allie hits out with "low blow"... UM WTF? So, Allie, it's ok for you to say someone's hair is bright red but anyone else says anything back to you god forbid. Plus she tries to play hard to get and being awful but admits to liking Levi?!
I could go on for ages, I didn't connect with any of the characters and I'm bored of writing full reviews for books that I really don't like, sorry! I won't be carrying on with this series.
WOW loved this! Another favourite to add to the long growing list. This year has been one of the best book-wise. I loved Levi and Allies banter and how she played hard to get and always had something to say and they challenged each other. It's like Levi didn't know how to handle her because no one had ever not melted into a puddle at his feet and done everything he asked and Allie and him were perfect together because she wouldn't let him intimidate her. Man he was gorgeous! I also loved Hailey, she's a friend anyone would be lucky to have. I'd love to room with her.
Allie meets Levi at one of her dads hotels that she and her best friend Jess have agreed to work part time in to gain work expierience. She sees him instantly and notices how Immensly hot he is however she has sworn off guys for the summer. She sees him again that night and Jess latches to one of his friends- Jared and she bregrudginly agrees to go for a drink with Levi and his friends who also show them around. Their compatible not just because they are both attractive and challenge each other but also because Levi's dad also owns a successful string of companies so they know their not just using each other for money. Slowly Levi and Allie grow closer and they can no longer deny there's something between them, so when Jess decides to leave and go home Allie relies on Levi for company. But Levi is actually a shape-shifter and Allie is the only person he's ever shown. But there's something else Allie should know about Levi and she is definitely going to find out- and in the worst possible way.
This whole book was full of adventure, fun and surprises and I loved it from start to finish.
Started my review...deleted...started again...deleted. Can I really begin my review with 'Well, I didn't hate it'? Because I really really wanted to like it. I read the synopsis and thought...Yes, ok - sounds interesting. And really, I did like the premise of the story originally! Reality is...well, I didn't hate it.
Our girl Allie is on her way with her flirty/boy-crazy BFF, Jess to New Orleans so they can work in Allie's (mostly absent) father's newly renovated hotel for the summer. Allie has just broken up with her boyfriend and she has decided to swear off men. They enter the Crescent City Hotel and Allie immediately locks eyes with a hot guy in the lobby. So much for the no men thing. Meet Levi...the hot (aggressive, confident, arrogant, bossy, doesn't-know-how-to-take-no-for-an-answer, infuriating, yet once in a while sweet)guy and his group of friends. After a couple of outings, Jess goes too far for her own comfort with one of Levi's friends and decides to leave the job, the boy and her friend behind to go home. Inexplicably, this also causes a rift in the friendship to the point she and Allie barely speak. Umm, ok *shrugs*. Enter Hailey, one of Levi's friends, to take the newly available BFF spot. (#convenient)
After hanging out for a couple weeks, Levi decides to tell Allie his secret...or show her, rather. See, he and his friends are shifters...crow shifters to be exact. Yes, I said crow...as in the bird. They have big wings that come out of their back, but they stay humanoid otherwise - and they can fly (as Allie discovers when Levi pulls her off of a tall building), they are strong...and surely have some other super-human powers that we will discover in the next book. And there are things like vampires (at the bottom of the paranormal society totem pole...they suck blood, you see), werewolves and werecats as well. And the crow shifters are the leaders of this hierarchy. Oh, and they are rich. Of course. And Allie's reaction to all of this is ...no, not a mental break with intensive psychiatric counseling...no, she doesn't freak and get the hell out of dodge...not at all. She is cool with it - no biggie! Well. Ok.
So, after knowing each other for a couple months...Levi takes Allie out on a 'real date' to a fancy restaurant and gives her this bright shiny ring with rubies on it. She is a little wary (she believes this is a summer fling that will end when she goes away to college). But yeah, she still takes the nice ring. On the way home, there is kissing, groping and steaminess - a veritable spike in hormonal activity, which leads these two back to the 2BR Hotel suite Allie's staying in (did I forget to mention that earlier?)to explore their hormones in the dark together. Soooo, the next morning things are all good...until Allie discovers she can't get the ring off. Huh! Hailey, being the good crow-shifter BFF, explains that the ring and the er..consummation..while wearing said ring, now makes Allie tied to Levi as his 'mate'. Yup. (And the ring can't come off. Well, maybe if she amputated her finger or something, but apparently its like fused on there good.) Yeah, Levi did that...without telling her what it meant. Douche!! Jackass! Controlling, manipulative asshole! WTF??! Etc.
Allie THEN freaks and leaves town. What the BFF neglects to mention is that her new 'mate' is the crown-Prince of ...well, whatever this paranormal society is called...oh wait! I believe its The Society (Yes, that makes her the Princess) and, she is unsafe outside of New Orleans - which is the seat of power. (Just stay with me here...) Long story condensed...kidnapping, attempted rape, rescue, returned to New Orleans, talks to/doesn't forgive Levi for asshole-ishness, she is told she cannot leave the city for her safety (and to keep her other family safe - it would be bad if she were to expose them to this life) so forget Princeton, and then onto a forced engagement party. The End. Wait, what?! Oh that's right. Book 2.
My thoughts: OK. So, I liked the setting of New Orleans. The description of the locale was pretty great. I actually liked the premise of different shifters, and a society of these paranormal beings with a royal hierarchy. It could have been really good. I liked the IDEA of the main characters...they had real potential. Levi was a guy, if done well, you would love (and love to hate). Allie is a girl you could really like (smart, independent, stands up for herself) as lead character - but there was just something missing.
What was missing: 1.The characters. Yes, I just got done saying I liked them...or really WANTED to like them. However, there was no depth. Very little character development whatsoever. It was all ...they did this, they did that, they said this...blah, blah. But you never really feel the relationships between the characters. You never really gain any insight into what any of them are thinking...even Allie's thoughts are shallow and vague...flat. The different relationships between ALL characters in the book are surface only, and makes it hard to really care about them (or believe they really care about each other). Extremely disappointing, because I think that it could have been really good with proper development.
2. The dialog. Holy crow (see what I did there?), it was bad. I had to actually force myself not to skip dialog. Honestly, I found myself adding descriptors into the sentences as I read them (about how the words would be said, the expressions on the faces, the little impressions that give insight and feeling to the words) that were just...missing. When I read some of the dialogue I thought - no, this is not how a college Freshman going to Princeton (!), and a guy going into his Senior year at Tulane would have a conversation. It was immature and unrealistic (read:middle school). The thought processes/arguments for the events that took place the way they did, were weak and didn't appear to be well thought out...contrived. Pet peeve of mine was the seemingly excessive and gratuitous use of "Really?" and "cool" by our girl Allie.
3. Major glossing over of LARGE parts of the whole supernatural world that was introduced, but never explained...at all... in the book. Yeah, secret basement headquarters under the Hotel (read:upscale batcave?). Levi says Allie can ask anything she wants, but refuses to answer pretty much everything. Then Allie just doesn't ask anymore. There are so many loose ends and unexplained elements to the whole 'Society' - that it leaves you confused as to why it was ever brought up to begin with.
4. The fact that the ending of this story is that the girl must essentially give up her family (to keep them safe), her Ivy League education (because she won't be safe on her own), and be engaged to a guy who tricked her (by lies of omission) and took away her choice for her future due to his own selfishness. But, yay...she is a Princess. (Kill me now.) And yes, I get the concept of letting go of one version of your life to start another...I just don't believe this was executed well in this story.
#Frustrated. I wanted to like this story a lot. I liked the idea of it, and parts were ok. I wanted SO much more. I am not sure I will be able to continue in the series...which kind of irritates me because I think the story line could be interesting. I just do not think I could endure the lack of development and dialog for another whole book.

Allie starts Princeton in the fall so she wants one last adventurous summer away from her ex-boyfriend. Allie and her friend Jess decide to work at her dad's hotel in New Orleans. Jess is a bit boy crazy and immediately wants to check out the New Orleans night life and eye candy while Allie wants to stay boy free. They meet Levi and his friends who are more than happy to show them a good time. Jess ends up deciding she wants to head home and Allie's plans for a boy less summer are failing because she has no one to hang out with and of course Levi's sexiness and persistency is hard to resist.
I loved the paranormal aspect of this book. The synopsis doesn't give much away and neither will I because I don't want to ruin the surprise. It is totally different than anything I have read. The whole time I'm wondering who and what is this supernatural society?! When some of the info does come out Allie takes it surprisingly well. There is a good and fun side to it that she enjoys and I would too. She is open to what is happening but doesn't fully understand the implications she could get caught up in. There is always a downside to everything isn't there. Especially something you don't fully understand. I will say I loved the underground world, party and interesting hierarchy that was mentioned but the end had also had some scary scenes and showed the evil side of the paranormal world as well.
Levi is sexy, sometimes arrogant, but also sweet. From the moment he sees Allie he knows he wants her and he won't give up. He doesn't get too stalkerish or psycho but he is persistent. I loved Levi but towards the end he does something bad and sneaky and totally wrong but I still have hope that they will work it out. I have so much I want to say but I am trying to keep the supernatural society mystery so I can't get too into it but I just loved it!!!!! I could not put the book down and read the entire thing in one sitting. I honestly don't think I even took one break. lol I really really need the next book already!
"You're so beautiful. So unbelievably beautiful..." he trailed off as his lips met mine. The kiss started off gentle but neither of us could keep it that way for long. It might have been our second kiss, but it was our first real one. I realized quickly that the first time at the bar we had both been holding back. Levi deepened the kiss, his arms wrapping around me tighter before lowering me onto the sand.
Wow. That was legit terrible. Hero was like a creepy, full of himself, frat boy. Heroine was annoying AF. Jess was a terrible friend. And the writing was cliche and cringe to the max.
Safety:
No clue except heroine has been in a few relationships (still wouldnt surprise me if she was a virgin since this is cliche), and hero gives off huge manh*e vibes.
I really enjoyed Flight and I'm super excited to see how the story will continue in the second book!!! The only thing I complain is that Allie pissed me sometimes she just keeps shutting Levi down admittedly he does something majorly wrong to her at the end of the book but I still was frustrated with Allie for the way she handled the situation.
Maybe I missed a memo somewhere. Are all paranormal romance books 15% paranormal and 85% romance? It sure seems like it after the last few I’ve read, and I can’t say I like the trend. Flight is no different. While there are paranormal elements sprinkled in and some of the main characters are paranormal in nature, the feel of the book is almost entirely that of a YA/New Adult romance. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m perfectly fine with reading romance books, though I prefer to know how heavily those elements are going to be used beforehand, but it needs to be done right.
Unfortunately, for me at least, Flight was not. I wanted to like this book, the writing was great, the style choices and pacing Alyssa Rose Ivy went with fit perfectly, but the romance… well it had some of my least favorite things, including the worst offender of all. That’s right, the dreaded insta-love strikes again. I don’t care one iota that Allie “resists” Levi in the beginning, which really is more her fighting off an instant attraction (ugh) for a while and eventually giving in one level at a time. Can insta-love not be a thing? Pretty please? Can’t the romance develop naturally and not be painfully obvious? *sigh*
I wish that was the only problem, but Flight committed another “crime” of romance books, the overly dominant/controlling male. Yup, Levi is one of those guys. He acts like he has control over her almost immediately, he refuses to take no for an answer even when she actually meant that she didn’t want anything to do with him, and acts like a jerk for half the book. I don’t want to spoil it, but there is a scene where he essentially gives her no options and just makes her get what he wants her to, I don’t care that she might have enjoyed the result, I can’t stand that. Let her decide what she wants! That goes for everything, not just that one scene.
To do further damage Levi near the end tricks her into something that she can’t escape from (no not that) and it’s despicable. His intentions weren’t even pure, it was crap and he did it because like all macho guys seem to be, he was scared. Not good enough. The guy may care for her, but he acts like a tool, and refuses to let her just be. Ugh.
The writing really was good, but even the few action scenes couldn’t save this for me. I have the second book in the series, Focus, but at this point I’m really not sure that I’ll read it. If it is anything like Flight in the balance of romance/paranormal, and if Levi doesn’t change at all, I guarantee it would be a DNF, so it’s probably not worth the time or effort. We’ll see, I’ll let it sit in my kindle for a while.
*I gave this Audiobook a C- for the book content and B+ for the narration at AudioGals*
Flight, the first book in the Crescent Chronicles, is a Young Adult paranormal romance. As is typical of Young Adult romances, the intimate scenes are very tame and could easily be appropriate for listeners of junior high age on up. Additionally, the plot is mostly focused on the paranormal world and coming of age of issues, once again making this title suitable for almost all ages of romance readers.
One area that I found lacking, however, was the romance. While I’m used to the passionate descriptions in this sub-genre being generally glossed over (or avoided altogether) the romance is usually epic. In that regard, images of Bella and Edward from Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight or Katniss and Peeta from Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games comes instantly to mind. In Flight, however, I felt the romance was superficial and rushed, thereby leading to my dissatisfaction with the one element of YA romance that I have come to count on and highly enjoy. The paranormal world building was also brief in nature, perhaps due to the short-length (only about 5 and a half hours) or to the fact that this is just the first in a series of five books and novellas. Fortunately Amy Rubinate does render her typical talented performance, thereby at least ensuring the narration is a plus for this title.
I did not like this book. Unfortunately this was not for me, maybe I am the wrong age group or perhaps I was swayed by my dislike of chauvinistic, cavemen badboys.
This was a book about a girl who falls into the world of 'were-crows' while she is on a working holiday at her mega rich fathers hotel in New Orleans. Allie is smart, apparently, and she is not adverse to danger while at the same time remaining sensible and after a string of bad choices has decided to hate men...So why is she still so boring, predictable and annoying? I dunno. But she is.
The whole story line was just too artificial and unoriginal. like, new girl in town falls for alluring, mysterious boy.
Mysterious boy is very aggressive to everybody and overly possessive of our heroine.
cliched secret power discovered/revealed; ensue shock, horror and fascination.
Heroine refuses to fall for him until she realises that he has changed his badboy ways for her and is now no more than her lap dog/guard dog.
Something terrible and scary happens near the end of the book that makes us worried, but deep down we all know it is just a plot device to keep the teenage love story from being totally boring.
It really annoyed me how he just tricked her into marriage like she was a possession, simply due to his own petty insecurities. This was immature, disrespectful and chauvinistic. Basically the whole thing about him being a prince and needing a mate to breed more crow people was a lame reason to force his gf into an un-consenting marriage. It made me feel sick when they mentioned there was a hundred percent chance their kids would be born as shifters. So she really is only useful as a wife and breeder. I hope in the next book (which I won't read) she turns into a werewolf after being bitten, I seem to remember Levi calling them dogs disdainfully.
I know authors are afraid to make their character to 'Mary Sue' but if they don't give the heroine any real skill it is just boring, (yes I know we were told Allie is going to Harvard and is very smart but I did not feel like she ever used that brain of hers).
I did not buy the reason that the crow-boys were keeping all other supernaturals in control and therefore their marriage was for the best of New Orleans. That is utter Bullshit....and why are all other wereshifters so dumb/feral in this series? I know the Corvus family of birds are dead smart... ...I used to have a pet jackdaw. He was very cute and could be pretty smart but my sheep dogs on the farm were far smarter, and as far as keeping the animals harmonious our jackdaw did the opposite. He just wound everyone up, pecked at peoples eyes and stole shit the whole time. I would not say he had leadership skills. This may not be entirely relevant though tbh.
Also I am so frigging sick of this whole selfless heroine. I love reading about some one compassionate but there is nothing cool about a girl who just lies down and accepts her fate. And don't even get me stared on the way the kids spoke:
"We still have some vineyards in Bordeaux..."
To me it seems like over kill to have more than one vineyard in Bordeaux, one should at least vary the regions or something?
What an excellent, exciting book. I enjoyed it all. This was an Audible book and the narrator was awful. There was just something about the way she talked. It drove me nuts.
Reading it with Alisa! :) yay!!! Had a huge head start for this cause she's a pretty fast robot. :O So I put off my other CR for this one! :) I hope this one is good! I don't really read the blurbs anymore. Um, yeah, cover snob. :o
4.5 stars.
Flight is an easy to read book. Just like the title, the flight is relatively easy, good and fast. I totally enjoyed it. I actually thought it'll be about werewolves since it was shelved in that category but NO, it was NOT about WEREWOLVES perse. It is about shifters.
In this first book, the paranormal world is not really that much um, existent? I mean, it's not like Twilight where the readers are sucked--pardon the pun--into the vampire world. It's like... Blood and Guitars. You know there are that kind of uh, not people, but for the lack of better word, lets call them people.
How can I explain it in English? Oh my god. >_< The world they are in are not YET fully explained. Ivy kept Levi mysterious but well, some of the questions had been answered. Still, at the end, it was such a cliffhanger that I wanted to read the next book right now. Sadly, it'll be released next year.
I enjoy the easy banter of Levi and Allie. Guess that cocky guys are really in demand right now that I've read lots of them and absolutely love them. Lol. Allie is sometimes annoying for being hard to get for a minute and then goes 180° change, then goes back to being hard to get. >:( Although I fully understand her for reverting back.
Hooray for finishing it for six continuous hours of reading! well, it's only 162 pages or something so I'm bound to finish it less than a day. :O
Allie thought spending the summer at her father's new hotel working would be the perfect opportunity to get acclimated to living on her own before college at Princeton started up that fall. She also thought she would be spending that summer man less. That is until she walks into her father’s hotel and locks eyes with a gorgeous guy. Yep, who was she kidding? Her summer was about to get a whole lot interesting.
I have been on a roll lately reading some pretty awesome books and Flight was no different. I inhaled that book until there was nothing left. (I obviously mean that in a good way.) The whole storyline was fun and kept my interest the entire time. I loved the idea that Alyssa presented to the readers and her writing is spot on. It was the perfect story rolled up into a perfectly paced phenomenal read.
As for characters I wasn't sure if I would like Levi at first. In a lot of ways he reminded me of Kiran from Rachel Higginson’s Star-Crossed series. And if you know me you know I cannot stand him any longer. So I was a little scared that Levi would fall into that category of ‘Infuriating Guys’. But luckily Levi redeemed himself a little bit and all is right with the world….for now.
I like Allie’s character too. Obviously she doesn't have the best track record with guys if she has decided to swear them off for the summer. But Lord help that girl when she takes notice of Levi…the girl doesn't stand a chance next to him. And I liked her relationship with the girl characters of the story. The dialogue was exactly what you would expect from a couple girls who just finished high school. Everything flowed well and was easy to follow.
Alyssa Rose Ivy I am diggin this new series of yours…A LOT! I am in desperate need of the next book, Focus, like now! So if you are in need of a good read with a different take on paranormals…please, please try Flight today.
A fav scene from the story… “Vampires are low lying?” “They suck blood from people, how much more of a bottom dweller can you imagine?” “True. But I don’t know…they seem more glamorous in books and movies.” Yes, because books and movies always get things right.” He shook his head.
There were some big mistakes in the book some more beta reading could have avoided (transition missing. Example: they tell Alex and Tobby they won't see Levi and co anymore and next page, new chapter they're all doled up to go outside with them without any hint it would happen or they've been contacted or...).
I could not read/feel Levi at all. He obviously is hot but I can't go in his head and had not any clue he was so serious about her. Alli is also hard to read and connect with as she seems so distant and interested but not so interested in Levi. What does she think really?
What was also unsettling was Alli's relationship with her parents. Her dad is uncaring I did grasp it but they say she is close to her mom and yet, there's much she does not know...
That said, I loved reading about New Orleans, about these special shifters as I never would have guessed what they were and her friendship with Hailey was endearing. I also think ther's more to Jess's departure than what it seems and she may come back with a big surprise in the next book.
It was a pretty good read. The idea of the Pterons was new.Allie was also a very interesting character. She was capable of resisting Levi's charms.About Levi..in the beginning I kind of liked him.He is so hot.*sigh*.But what he did in the end was really outrageous.I just wanted to slap him on the face for it.SERIOUSLY.I cannot say anything else without giving the plot away.Anyway I am curious to know what happens next.I'll have to wait till the next book comes out.
Fast n easy read.. Different from other shifter books . I loved Allie's attitude even though she like attracted to Levi she fights knowing when she was lied and betrayed too..though levi is hot n yummy...i was sad to see he lied to allie like that..and i think anyone would have reacted like Allie..i was seriously pissed and angry but oh well i also want to see how he woos her back and makes her to his side!It was definitely a fun read! I just hope everything goes good in next book :) Sri.
"I only read books that are rated four or higher" "It's a four I promise" ...
I started reading this book because it was so short, and because y's recommendations are generally pretty solid and I've enjoyed them all. EXCEPT this one. It was like a train wreck that kept getting worse, and I have absolutely no attachment to any of the characters. I don't like a single one of them. This book was so bad that I couldn't even DNF it.
There were really mature themes here that were approached and then COMPLETELY brushed off. MMC stalks FMC, then secretly binds her to him and she's in massive danger but he doesn't tell her, then she gets kidnapped and sexually assaulted (with absolutely nobody caring about this key detail), and then he says 'give me one night to make it right' and it's their ENGAGEMENT PARTY? With his mum guilt tripping her into staying??? AND SHES STILL IN LOVE WITH HIM. DISGUSTING.
This isn't even touching on the weirdness and possessiveness of the MMC in the first half, or the awkwardness and lack of inner dialogue (major case of tell not show in this book).
I've just lost a week of reading I'll never get back and yes it's half my fault, but I'm still blaming the book.
When Allie receives an invitation from her father to work in his new hotel in New Orleans, she sees it as a chance to experience something new before heading off to college. Allie is looking for a summer of adventure and excitement--what she gets may be more than she ever expected. After breaking up with her boyfriend before leaving for New Orleans, Allie swore off men. But when she catches the eye of Levi Laurent in the lobby of the Crescent City Hotel, everything changes--for better and for worse.
I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who could relate to Allie. She has her life planned out and anything that doesn't fit into that plan she immediately dismisses. But then a wrench is thrown into her plans--in the form of Levi--and she's left floundering. I figure it this way: When your life is all planned out, the way Allie's is, there is no room for change or surprises, and because of that you could miss out on something truly great and, for Allie, life-altering. Although there is also the chance that the change coming your way is not so great and you're left lost and wondering what went wrong. Change is a double-edged sword that can cut both ways, and in Allie's case, Levi--the wrench in her plans--caused her great happiness, but also great hurt. But it's the way you bounce back that counts.
Levi Laurent is arrogant and very persistent. And let's face it: No one that gorgeous can be human. And he's not. Levi is a Pteron, a race of shapeshifter that long ago used to turn into crows, but now are more of a hybrid--they remain in human form, except for massive black wings that sprout from their backs. Allie is the first and only girl Levi has ever flown and shared his secret with. I think that Allie's introduction and acceptance was a little too smooth, and that's where the problem started. Allie accepted what Levi and his friends are, but not their culture. Although, in Allie's defense, Levi was too close-lipped about how things work in their society, and Allie had to learn about it secondhand from someone else. Because of this, Allie got into a situation that caused her great hurt--mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Levi's massive screw-up basically brought their relationship to a screeching halt. I can't blame Allie fro being furious with Levi, she has every right to feel the way she does. But I do believe in second chances. Though Levi was stupid, he did what he did out of fear of losing Allie, and he truly loves her. I believe that he should be given one more chance, if only to try to make things right again. The fact that Allie still loves him, though she'll deny it, gives me hope that time might heal her hurt and her love for him will be strong enough to survive the coming challenges.
Flight is an engrossing read--I never wanted the story to stop! With the way the book ended, I'm dying to know what happens next for Allie, Levi, and the Pterons.
The moment that I saw the book cover for Flight by Alyssa Rose Ivy, I knew I had to read this book. Within the first page I was completely pulled into the story and I could not put it down until I reached the end.
Because of the title, Flight, I immediately thought that the book was going to be about angels and I was happily surprised to find out that Alyssa Rose Ivy had come up with a new and interesting paranormal creature that is all her own.
In Flight you follow Allie as she heads down to New Orleans for the summer to work at her dad’s hotel after her high school graduation. After breaking up with her boyfriend Allie decides to swear off men for the summer, however, when she meets Levi all of her thoughts begin to change. As their attraction for one another becomes stronger Allie is thrown into a supernatural world that she never knew existed. When the summer comes to an end, Allie is forced to make a choice. She must decide to continue on the path she has always been on or help save a city and a supernatural world that she never knew.
I absolutely loved the world the Alyssa Rose Ivy created. The backdrop of New Orleans allowed for a magical and mysterious element in the storyline. The characters are just as colorful as the city of New Orleans and are fully fleshed out and most importantly believable. The relationship between Allie and Levi is heartwarming and intense. Their banter back an forth left me laughing out loud and I kept reading to find out where there relationship would go.
In Flight there wasn’t a dull moment and I was kept entertained throughout the whole story. The ending was such a huge cliff hanger that I am now eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series!
Alyssa Rose Ivy has quickly become one of my new favorite authors. I give Flight a 5 star review and I highly recommend it!
* Please note I was given an e-book copy of Flight for review. The opinions expressed are 100% honest and my own.
I did a cover reveal for Flight and when I read the blurb I knew I had to read it. Lord was I not disappointed! Flight takes place in New Orleans and if any of you know New Orleans is beautiful. Hurricane Katrina tore it apart but the folks put it back together and most of the historic district was saved. While reading flight I kept picturing certain places in my mind and I am so glad I had those extra visuals because this book had me hooked from the very beginning.
Allie has sworn off all guys for the summer. She is determined to work at her fathers hotel with her best friend Jess and enjoy the summer and what it has to offer. Only when they get to the hotel Allie sees this gorgeous guy and his friend. Jess wants to talk to the friend and the guys invite them out for drinks. Allie is very cautious about Levi and takes the time to get to know him. So when Jess decides she is going home earlier than Allie Allie decides to stay.
Allie and Levi get closer and Levi shares his secret with her. Once Allie knows what he is she decides to stay by him. Only Allie doesn't know the whole truth and in the end once it is revealed Allie will have to make a decision that will change her life forever. What will she do? Will she stay with Levi? Will she go home? Come along on a fantastic ride and meet some great characters and enjoy the New Orleans scenary while learning some serious secrets.
I mean...WOW!!! Flight's so much more than I've looking for yet expected from it. I even barely remember the sysnopsis before I started read it. Maybe I wanted something that unexpected without even peeking for it.
And yeah this is paranormal romance story I've never had read before. Alyssa has brought me into a new story of the paranormal world and I believe this also an epic paranormal story even though there were more bout romances than the paranormal elements as I thought it should. I used to be drawn into angels and vampires stories but shapeshifters. That I would say I really enjoyed the story. Yet I never have read anything like relationship between human girl with the prince of paranormal world. Could you imagine how interesting it would be after the girl realized she has being tricked to be bound with the prince??*giggles* ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Three Stars: An interesting paranormal read with a lackluster romance.
Allie is excited to settle into her summer job at her father's hotel in New Orleans before heading off to Princeton in the fall. Allie plans to enjoy her summer with her best friend without any romantic entanglements since she has sworn off guys. Her resolve is immediately tested when she catches the eye of a handsome stranger at the bar when she enters the hotel. Levi is handsome and charming and hiding a big secret. Will Allie find love in New Orleans? What I Liked: *For a self pubbed indie book, Flight has a lot going for it. If I had read it a couple of years ago when it released I would have been more impressed. This book features an interesting paranormal shapeshifter that is original and exciting. If you are looking for something fresh and creative when it comes to paranormal romance give this little indie book a chance. *I liked the big twists and turns and all the action packed in at the end. There are some startling developments that I am interested to follow up on in the subsequent books. *The romance is a slow burner. It does start out as an immediate attraction, but Allie holds her ground and continues to push Levi away as she tries to maintain her creed to avoid men. However, Levi wears her down, and the romance builds from there. It is a romance full of ups and downs and strange developments. After the big events, I am not sure how I feel about the romance in the future. Levi has a lot of groveling to do, which I want to see. *This is a self pubbed book, but I had no issues with it. It was well written and edited. The writing was good and the story delivered. I picked this up as an Freebie and I am glad that I took a chance. And The Not So Much: *Had I read this a couple of years ago, I would have liked it better, but unfortunately the romance and bad boy, Levi failed to impress me. I felt absolutely no attraction to Levi, and I kept thinking that another guy was going to come along and sweep Allie off her feet. No love triangle develops which is a good and bad thing. I felt no connection to the romance, and I didn't like Levi, especially after what he did at the end. For most of the book, I wanted him to go away. *The big paranormal reveal was a big of a fizzle. I wanted to know so much more about the shapeshifters, but the details were scant. The world building was lacking *I was excited to read this because it is set in New Orleans, but the story doesn't take advantage of the setting. There is hardly any mention of the city, and it doesn't play a major role in the story. Too bad. *I was left with a lot of questions at the end, and the book ends on a cliffhanger. *I found Allie's best friend Jess irritating. She is an empty headed, boy chaser who ends up going home after a stupid decision. I was glad she was out of the story early on, but I felt like there was something more to her departure. *What was the deal with Allie's dad? He was pretty much non existent in the story. Where was he?
Flight was a bit of a disappointment to me as I felt no connection to the romance, and I felt the world building was weak and that the book ended on a cliffhanger. Still for a self pubbed title it was well written and it had a good story line. If you are a fan of paranormal romance and you want something original as far as paranormal creatures go, give this one a chance. I can't complain as I snagged it up as an Amazon freebie.
I purchased a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for this review. Posted@Rainy Day Ramblings.
I really (almost) wish I hadn't started this book.
Why you ask?
Because, it is going to be an awful long wait until the next one is out and that, well, that just makes me sad. I didn't want this one to end.
I wasn't ready for it to be over. I want more. More Levi, more Allie, Hailey, Owen, Jared. more of the story.
What happens next? Do they make it? Where does their story go from here?
So yeah, needless to say, I fell in love with the characters, the writing, the story, the whole thing.
I loved the whole idea, the concept, the uniqueness that made up the whole world that Ivy created. It was full of win amd darn it, I want the second book to be out, like now.
I am not even going to go into the details of this story because I don't want to ruin anything and it is hard to know what I can and can't say that will give something away.
I will give you a little hint though, if you like hot leading men with a little bit of an alpha complex, a heroine that is just your average girl but is feisty and can hold her own. And yeah, a world full of the paranormal in the spooky city of New Orleans, then this is the story for you.
The romance in this one was perfect, not over the top or insta love at all, in fact, the ending will surprise you even.
No body is perfect in this one, the hot leading man Levi? He made mistakes, big mistakes in fact but I still loved him and was still rooting for him, which honestly surprised me.
And Allie, well, she isn't perfect either. She is stubborn and head strong and isn't always smart either and that just made me like her all the more too.
That doesn't always work in a story, but it did in this one.
Ivy did a beautiful job making it all work. It wasn't perfect and things were left out of the story, everything didn't end happily and all wasn't explained but, hey, that makes me want to read the second one all the more. Because, I want all those questions answered and all the details to be uncovered. And yes, I want more Levi. I can't help it, he did a crappy thing but he did it out of love and because of that, my hopeless romantic side can't hate him.
So well done Ivy, you got me hooked! I will anxiously be awaiting the release of Focus.
So I have only read one other of Alyssa' books *Derailed* which is a contemp book. We should all know by now that while those are not really "my thang" I do enjoy them every now and then. Derailed was Great! I thoroughly enjoyed it. So I thought hey I like the way this gal writes... let's see how Flight is.... So.Glad.I.Did this book was like Woah!
That COVER could not be any more perfect! Every aspect of it fits in PERFECTLY!!
Allie.. What a great female character! Pretty, smart, wealthy*but doesn't flaunt it*, strong character... what is not to love. She has sworn off men after some trouble and well when she arrives in New Orleans, let's just say she doesn't stand a chance. I love how she handles herself, in all situations. Her friend Jess.. she was ok but I couldn't really get into her other than she was there. I really got pissed at her at one point.
Levi.. What can I say... *Hottness* arrogant? yes... But as the story goes along, Not so much! This guy has it all! He is smart, sexy and Alpha! Adventure is sure to be had anytime Levi and his buddies are around.
"Quote" "You said you wanted an adventure," he said quietly, teasingly, as he tightened his hold. "Quote"
He has that "bad boy" appeal to him. I fell for him with his smooth talking and not giving up attitude. He wan't pushy and never took things "too far" when he met Allie. There are times when I would be all swoony over him and something he says...
"Quote" Levi moved toward me, practically pinning me against the wall. "Your opinion always counts, but I already told you I'm not calling you what everyone else does. I'm going to have my own name for you." "Quote"
The story line was great! NO, you won't get spoilers from me *winks* It's unique and exciting... Then it gets dangerous! Cannot wait to see what happens next! The other characters Owen , Jared, Haley .. I adored each of them although at one point I wanted to punch one of them in the face... he totally made up for it later!
Allie has just graduated and is about to start college. When her father invites her to spend the Summer working at his hotel in New Orleans, she jumps at the chance, partly to have some fun before college, and partly to get away from her ex-boyfriend. Allie drags her best friend off to New Orleans, determined to keep boys out of the picture. Then she meets Levi…Can she resist his charm and is she strong enough to handle the secret world he is involved in?
I honestly struggled with this novel and there were many times I seriously considered giving up. The characters just seemed very two dimensional, and many of the scenes came across as contrived and under-developed. The story was slow to start too. I found it difficult to connect with Allie because she came across as disjointed - strong sometimes and insipidly weak at others. Levi was not a likable character either. He was arrogant and rude at best.
Yet the setting of the novel kept me reading. The author’s descriptions of New Orleans with it’s non-stop night-life were intriguing. Near the end of the novel, the plot picked up and there was a little more action, but here again, I felt that the character’s actions were just not believable.
So, while I was entertained, I sadly will not be continuing with this series.
I hate being too negative in book reviews. I respect how much effort it takes to write one. But I’m sorry, this was bad. I kept reading it because I was curious if it would redeem itself a little bit. It did not.
I was hoping this free kindle book would be a light and fun paranormal read. What I got was a problematic story filled with terrible characters that set terrible examples. Here is a brief list of issues... 1. Teens drinking. But more than that...Teen girls accepting random mixed drinks from strange men who refuse to tell them what the drink is. (What the heck?! Don’t ever do this!) 2. Older males preying on teenage girls 3. The idea that you can be a dickhead as long as you’re attractive. It also helps to have important parents 4. It’s cool to forget all your morals and good sense if a guy is hot enough 5. Give up your plans, college, friends and future for a controlling guy who lies 6. Absent parents who leave their teen daughter to her own devices with a penthouse suite and lavender Range Rover. 7. The pacing of the story was odd and the interactions were not natural. So many details were nonsensical.
Ok I’ll stop now. It was bad.
