The Trailblazing Life of Daniel Boone and How Early Americans Took to the Road by Harness, Cheryl [National Geographic Children's Books, 2007] Hardcover [Hardcover]
While the facts of Daniel Boone's life were very interesting, and I like Cheryl Harness' illustrations, I'm giving this a 3 because of the voice of the text. She wrote it in a folksy voice in imitation, I'm sure, of how Daniel Boone might have spoken. I found it very distracting at times, and would have preferred straightforward narration. Now, if Daniel Boone had been telling his own story, that type of voice might have worked well. As I said, though, the information was interesting, especially the chapter at the end that discussed how transportation changed and developed since Boone wandered along the Wilderness Trail.
my 10 year old son was doing a report on Daniel Boone and this was a book we checked out for him to use. I ended up reading it and learning things I didn't know. There are some illustrations in it and it is written in a way to make it interesting and engaging for younger readers.
I love the timeline on the bottom of the pages. Daniel's story starts at 1734 and ends in 1820 with major events in the US mentioned (the French and Indian War, the Revolution, etc.). Modes of transportation/roads/travel are discussed after Daniel's story is finished. This book would make a good addition to a homeschool shelf.
This is a book of a series. This is a very good book. The text was very good about his and his families life. Along with issues occurring in what was to be the United States. Written in a way that is interesting and attention getting and keeping. AND along the bottom of each page there is a timeline per years that the story is occurring of various things around the world. Like the birth of certain people and the dates of certain events. This series (or at least this book) would be great to just read (like I did) or to be used by a student as a book report. Very good.
Folksy look at life of Daniel Boone. Based on previous knowledge (admittedly sketchy), this book seemed to be accurate. I really enjoyed the illustrations, presentation and especially the time line of current evens in the world during the narration. I look forward to reading other books in the series.
enjoyed this author. My favorite part of this book was the horizontal timeline that is on the bottom of all the pages telling what all happened during the life of Daniel. I believe she does this for all in this series.

The book I read was based on the adventurous and dangerous life of Daniel Boone. The book that I read was basically a timeline of Daniel Boone's life. Daniel Boone went to places, and visited Native Americans. One of his passions was shooting. He was awarded for his amazing shooting skills. Daniel lived for many more years than the average man. He was around 80 years of age when he died.
There wasn't really a theme to the story, because its was a nonfiction biography. But if I had to choose it would have to be live your life to the fullest. Daniel Boone lived a life not many people could live. He went on so many adventures and met so many people from other parts of the world while many were stuck living in a small house and having to work to make money. These were many pieces of evidence from the book on how Daniel Boone lived his life.
