I think Clare should donate some of her money to her fans for being so loyal and buying every piece of garbage she manages to crap out of her ass. Just, UGH. What's next, huh? A video game?

August 27, 2014i enjoy city of bone as graphic novel more than the novel , , i still can't stand the characters for some reason , but i really want to give it another try and pick the 2nd book , hopeful that i can enjoy it

Aunque el arte usado no me ha convencido en ciertas cosas (algunos personajes como Magnus) y en otras sí que me ha gustado (el diseño de demonios, los hombres lobos), he disfrutado recordar esta historia a través de una novela gráfica. Me da pena que no acabaran de publicarla entera pero por suerte están las novelas gráficas de Cassandra Jean.

Este comic es la primera adaptación gráfica que tuvo "Ciudad de Hueso". Igual que futuras instancias, el material funciona bien en este formato, aunque en esta oportunidad, queda por debajo del nivel que esperaba.
Lo primero a mencionar es que la adaptación comienza muy cercana al libro, tratando de no omitir nada y hasta tomando líneas de diálogo. Es un lindo guiño, pero se vuelve insostenible enseguida.
Respecto al arte, las portadas son muy atractivas, con un estilo acuarelado que le queda bien, pero la calidad de las ilustraciones internas es despareja. Muchas de las expresiones son exageradas y parece que están siempre enojados o gritando, no hay sutilezas.
Uno de mis problemas principales con el arte es que todos los personajes pasan por blancos (voy a suponer que a Magnus lo quisieron plantear como asiático y no se nota) y a su vez, parecen mayores de lo que deberían ser. Está bien que vemos a pocos adultos, pero no hay diferencia estética entre Jace o Luke.
Para la parte 6 cambian el estilo un poco más oscuro, que no ayuda a la historia. Es bueno que hayan regresado a la ilustración original para la parte 7.
Una queja personal es la ropa. No es que esté mal, pero todos usan lo mismo en diferentes colores. Eso hace que cuando Clary comenta que "no se viste como Isabelle" se vea raro porque... están vestidas igual, con jean y musculosa. O cuando Simon menciona que Jace parece un gótico, pero lucen lo mismo y ni siquiera se encuentre de negro. Son frases que vienen textuales del libro y que no se transmitieron bien al papel.
Volviendo a la historia, el ritmo es raro, arranca tratando de adaptar todas las escenas posibles, pero de pronto empiezan a saltear algunas. Lo que no sería un problema si no fuera que los personajes hacen referencia a las partes que no sucedieron en página y no dan contexto, asumen que uno conoce lo que pasó.
En general, aunque es una interesante adaptación. Es una pena que la hayan cancelado sin llegar al final o al menos darle un cierre.
Y esta queja es para la versión digital, pero muchos de los globos de diálogo apuntaban a la persona incorrecta haciendo que se pierda el ritmo de lectura.

As with other iterations, the original source works really well as a comic. This adaptation uses dialogue lines directly from the book so, if you already read it, it's a nice nod.
Regarding the art, I really liked the covers with the watercolor style. They are intriguing. But the illustration's style inside the book it's not my cup of tea, some expressions are overdone and it looks like everyone is mad or screaming all the time.
Part 6 of the compilation has a new artist that really lowers the quality trying to be edgier.
My main issue was with the character design, all of them pass as white (which is a problem in Magnus's case) and they all seem to be the same age, which ends with about teen MCs looking like ground-ups.
If I'm going to be nitpicky, the fashion style looks weird too, all of them are wearing the same in different colors. The art gets better in the last part but it's a little too late.
One of the things that didn't quite work for me was using the book for dialogues but not matching it with the art. For example, Simon mentions that Jace is a "goth boy" because it's a line from the book but he is not wearing black so it makes no sense.
Concerning the plot, it has some pacing issues, especially near the end. In general, there are missing scenes, that it's OK to remove but then the characters mention those scenes and expect the reader to understand what's going on.
Overall, it works only if you are familiar with the source material. And it's a shame the publisher did not allow it to finish the run.

Clary is just a normal girl living a normal life until her Valentine captures her mother. He takes her because he believes that she has the immortal cup. A powerful cup that can turn humans into demon hunters.She learns that she has the sight to another world that no else can except the demon hunters and the demons .A boy name Jace ends up helping her through this. As she stays with Jace she learns that her mother has another life that she didn't even know about, and Valentine has a part in it.

Clary Fray is a normal girl just trying to get into art school when, on a night out, she watches 3 mysterious teens who no one else seems to be able to see attack and kill what looked like a man. She tries to write it off as a hallucination, but she comes home to find her apartment trashed, her mother missing, and some sort of horrible creature waiting for her. She is rescued by one of the teens from her 'hallucination,' Jace Wayland, who tells her that she is a demon-slayer, a Shadowhunter. The only safe place for her is with her kind. As Clary learns more about her past, she, Jace, and her best friend Simon try to find her mom and foil an evil plot.
The novel version of this has been made into a half decent movie and a sub par television series. Of all the incarnations that are not the novel itself, this is definitely my favorite. I think Cassandra Clare's writing is phenomenal and her plot twists are magnetizing. This is probably my favorite series of all time though I think the graphic novelization leaves a little something to be desired.
I would not use book in my classroom. If I were teaching middle or high school, I might use a short passage to show my students an example of imagery or alliteration. However this book is not too appropriate for a classroom. Though I want to share it with everyone, it would be a little unprofessional of me as there are some adult themes and a fair amount of violence.

This was so good. It literally took me 7 hours to finish the thing because of the details in the picture. The pictures were perfect. The Illustrator captured the looks of the characters perfectly. This was exactly how I saw them. Jace was awesome. (If you guys want to see some great art for the series search "taratjah"). There were a few mistakes though like putting the wrong speech bubbles on the wrong people. But I didn't really mind that. My only problem is where they ended at. I don't know if it was only my book but they ended at when Clary got the cup out of the Tart Card. I was actually really looking forward to the parts at Renwick's...
I really hope that they continue graphic novels for the rest of the series!!!

I loved it, it was amazing especially when I wanted to read the second book but my mom said that I couldn't read it till after her, she takes forever to read it. I loved this book.

While I read the original book for the city of bones reading the graphic novel was a whole new experience for me. Being able to see how Clare pictured her characters was interesting because a lot of the time I did not picture the characters the same way. Also another thing I would like to point out is that while reading the original book was interesting the graphic novel had me more invested into the book. Also, Magnus Bane is my favorite character but I did not like how the graphic novel portrayed him.
I believe that graphic novels would be good in a leaning environment would be because children are still interested in picture book even when they are 8 or 10 and giving them a picture book that also has a great novel behind it will be beneficial for those kids.

City Of Bones is a very good and exciting book. It is filled with action and supernatural drama.
Clary and her mother get in a fight, and while clary is out with her best friend Simon, her mother is kidnapped by Valentine and his crew. Clary must find her mother before it's too late.
I recommend reading this book, especially if you liked the Maze Runner.

I'm not usually a fan of fantasy, but I picked this up for Book Club at school. So glad I did! I ended up reading the entire trilogy in a month.
