USA Today bestselling author Sylvie Stewart loves bad jokes, dirty rom-coms, country music, and baby skunks—preferably all at the same time. Most of her steamy contemporary and romantic comedy novels take place across her favorite state of North Carolina, and her characters never run out of snarky banter or snacks. When her laptop closes, Sylvie is a sucker for hugs from her twin boys and a good laugh with her hot-nerd hubby. If you love smart Southern gals, hot blue-collar guys, and snort-laughing with characters who feel like your best friends, Sylvie's your gal.
I am regretting picking up this book. I hesitate at first because I have no like feeling towards Miss Steward books. And... I am paying for my decision.
Nothing in this book connect with me. I even fall asleep listening to this book. The characters, plot, story, is just off. I think it is too dragging.
(audiobook) Though it wasn’t my favorite in the series, I was pleasantly charmed by this book. The characters were interesting, and they had good chemistry.
One of the aspects I enjoyed the most was how Jax was building a relationship with his daughter. It wasn’t easy–because of family drama that was a bit too much, the girl’s mother sure was something else. And I loved that Ari helped.
Ari was a great character, with ambition and a good head on her shoulders, but also with talent and creativity, and she’s overall good people. Which made some of her choices questionable. It takes some time for her to redefine her priorities. But that’s the character’s journey, and it was enjoyable to see her grow.
The banter was fun, there was a little bit of steam, and many characters from the series made cameos. What’s not to love?
The narrators did a good job with the characters. They played the characters’ strengths pretty well and gave them the right energy. The weak point was the other sex’s voices, but it wasn’t outrageous. It was a pleasant listen all in all.
Quickie
- Series: Carolina connections #6 (can be read as a standalone) - Hashtags: #romcom #single dad #estranged daughter #teen daughter - Triggers: mild psychological abuse and manipulation - Main couple: Ariana Amante & Jax Crosby - Hotness: 3/5 - Romance: 4/5 - + I loved the support they offer each other - – the family drama was a bit too much

This was interesting from beginning to end. Three amazing characters that you can easily enjoy reading about. Ariana is a singer, web designer and just an all around girl. She is one amazing girl who wants a life of her own. Her and Jax are friends but the chemistry between these two is absolutely off the charts hot. But there is a small complication between these two Ariana and Jax don't know what each other wants. She wants to build her business and feels like she doesn't have time for anything else. Jax has just learned that he has a daughter who is 14 years old and wants to be in her life. But things aren't so easy for either one of them? It was very well written and enjoyable from beginning to end. I absolutely loved the chemistry between all three of these characters. It was a great storyline that was downright enjoyable. This is a book I highly recommend. I am hoping to be able to read the others in this series.
With Stewart’s signature lightness and humor, The Runaround is romantic comedy done right. There is some fantastic banter and great chemistry between our couple. And while neither Ari nor Jax has the type of personality I typically seek out in my romance novels, I still rooted for them to find happiness.
The story follows Jax, a carefree and charismatic guy who tends to steer clear of commitments. Last year he exchanged some heavy flirtation with Ari, a feisty and independent woman who has a reputation as a bit of a maneater. They both expected to have a steamy (and short term) fling, but Jax ghosted on Ari before things got to that point. Turns out he discovered that he has a teenage daughter he never knew about, and his life has changed drastically over the last several months. Now that his daughter is looking for some singing lessons, Jax knows it’s time to seek out Ari again - because she’s the perfect woman for the job. But what was once a simple flirtation becomes more complicated when Jax lets Ari so deeply into his life.
I really love Stewart’s writing style, and this book is certainly no exception. These two are no strangers to connecting with people, so their flirtation and banter were the best parts of the book. I personally don’t love characters who treat sex as an exchange of Os, so the fact that both Ari and Jax do made it difficult for me to connect with them on certain levels. It’s a great story though, and beneath all of the humor is plenty of depth. These two grow and change throughout the book, ultimately becoming better versions of themselves together.

The Runaround was a great 5 star read and book six in The Carolina Connections series.
Ari is a very busy woman with a lot of goals. She isn’t looking for any type of relationship. One night while DJing for Karaoke night she sees Jax. She had helped him a while back with his website and he is very hot. She is surprised when he approaches her and asks her for a favor, he would like her to give singing lessons to someone.
Jax was surprised with the news that he is a father. He is trying to build a relationship with his daughter so he gets her singing lessons with Ari. Ari is someone that he is very attracted to, but the timing is very off for any type of relationship for him. As they spend more time together, things start to change between them. They try to keep things a secret from their friends.
How long can they keep it a secret? Can these two get their lives straight and have something together?
Overall I really enjoyed this read. All of the secondary characters were great, I really liked Ari’s family. It was interesting to watch how their relationship developed and the direction it went. I’m really enjoying this series and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
The Runaround is the sixth book in the Carolina Connections series by Sylvie Stewart. It is a fun, light-hearted romantic comedy. It may be the sixth book in the series, but can be read as a standalone. But, after reading this book, you will definitely get a taste for Ms. Stewart’s stories, so be prepared to want to go back to read the other books in the series, too. I loved the funny, flirty banter between the characters. It really made the story for me. Jax and Ari certainly give, and get, The Runaround- and I enjoyed following along for the ride. This is a sweet, steamy, funny and very entertaining story. Such a fun read!
I’m annoyed and charmed in equal measure by the sweet talking Romeo. The fact that he’s doing his best to connect with his teenage daughter is a plus in my book but the way he’s totally oblivious about his feelings and effect on women is riling me up. He has more than a few flaws, making him all the more lovable.
Ariana is hard working, intelligent, creative, beautiful and caring. She’s not very good at choosing the right boyfriend but at one point she starts to question her decisions. Knowing that she’s more than likely to get her heart broken again she fights her attraction to Jax.
They both try to hide their relationship from their fellow group of friends, and they don’t even acknowledge their feelings in the beginning. The back and forth is like a tide, never ending and unstoppable. I’m intrigued by the way this evolves and how much help they need to get to their happy ever after. When the teenager seems to be the wisest and the love advice come from a tv show nothing can go wrong, right?
This is the 6th book in the series so far and I have enjoyed every one of them. I always know that I'll have a funny down to earth romance book when I pick up a book from this series. The characters are what makes the story amazing! I couldn't get enough of Jax and Ari. They had me rooting for them from the beginning. As always, I am looking forward to reading more by this author and I am would recommend this Book to a friend! Happy reading!
The Runaround by Sylvie Stewart a flirty four-star read. This is number six in the Carolina Connections series and they can be read as stand-alone but honestly they are so much fun I would advise to read them in order as they do build form each other and they show us the talent that Sylvie Stewart has as a writer. Ari you have a drive that not many would, that made me smile so much, and she just made me feel like I had some get up and go just reading her story. Jax is a confusing character but when you read his story you start to see why. This was a great story, about timing issues and also worry about others, and overthinking, we all have these in our lives and I think that’s why you will be able to identify with something in this story and that will make this a great read for anyone.
The Runaround: A Single Dad Romantic Comedy (Carolina Connections Book 6) by Sylvie Stewart is a sweet romance story. Where the man has so many flaws but they make him that much more lovable. I was in fits of laughter as I read this but there were just as many heart felt moments. It is a well written and fun story that makes for a great read. Sylvie’s stories always make me smile so it’s a no brainer when her books come along. I loved the banter between the characters and the flirtation were so entertaining. Strong and independent with lots of sass and his flirting charm will get under your skin.
Ms Stewart never seems to fail with her sweet and fun stories. His charm and her sass was a perfect combo. How can one simply resist the southern charm man and a strong woman. This is not your typical single dad story. There is pain and growth, luv and hurt. Lola is amazing on how strong she really is. What she went thru would have broken and adult little alone a teenager. Jax is to cheeky for his own good but u can’t help but love him. Ari is fun and witty. Strong and independent but still little broken. I loved every aspect of here. She has it together but yet not.
I just love this series! It is definitely a top 5 for me - I could read these books over and over...especially the audiobooks. The characters are gold; they make me laugh and I’m instantly in love with each one. This couple couldn’t be more entertaining. I love their back and forth; they fight the love they have for each other, but love always wins. I can’t wait for the next Carolina Connections book! I received this ARC for an honest review.
An incredible fun well written single dad romance story. This engaging storyline had some drama, funny banter, unexpected surprise teenage daughter, lots of depth, flirtation, and love that had me interested as every page turned. The characters are interesting and relatable with amazing chemistry. It was wonderful watching them grow and become better versions of themselves as they journey towards their HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC.
I loved this book SO much!! Ari is hilarious, and Jax makes me swoon. I adore Lola, and the whole family dynamic was so well written. I thoroughly enjoyed this most recent installment of the Carolina Connections. Keep ‘em coming, Sylvie!!!
I just knew Jax and Ari were going to be explosive! This book was hot yet so sweet. There is nothing better then a man afraid of love and commitment being brought to his knees in love with an amazing woman. Really enjoyed this storyline.
I really enjoyed this book, love the way the author draws you into the story, this series is fun to read and the characters have great chemistry. I would definitely recommend this book. I received an arc of this book.
I always enjoy Sylvie Stewart's books, and this was no exception. I loved the characters and it was nice to see some familiar faces from the rest of the series.

If you’ve been reading through the Carolina Connections series (of which this is the 6th book) you will know of both Jax and Ari as they both popped up in several of the previous books in the series. But don’t worry if this is your first foray into Carolina Connections or indeed Sylvie Stewart, as this book stands completely alone with its own HEA.
At first, our heroine Ari comes across as a bit of a party girl - reeling men in with her pin-up girl good looks and then discarding them when they no longer served a purpose for her. But as we get to know her, we realise that nothing could be further from the truth. She’s actually an overly sensible girl (yes, still with the pin-up girl good looks) who is very unlucky in love and works damn hard so her dreams can come true. I liked her immensely. She was sassy, mouthy but still sensible - I think I might have fallen in love.
In the audiobook, Ari is portrayed by Reagan West and a great job she does of her, too. Her tone and inflection are just as I would suspect Ari’s would be. She got the nuances and she was a joy to listen to. I did feel that Ms West’s accent when depicting Mr and Mrs Amante - Ari’s parents who are supposed to be Italian immigrants - was suspiciously Indian sounding. But the meaning was there so it didn’t affect my rating.
Jax is our hero and never a more laid-back, Southern charmer of a man was there. His drawl was delightful and the push and pull between him and Ari was really fun to listen to. Part of the background for Jax’s character was his sudden fatherhood. While children are never a plus point in romances, for me, Lola was a peach and the growing and changing relationship between father and daughter really added to how much I liked Jax. And Lola, too.
Jax is voiced by Matt Hicks and if slow talking, shucks y’all, laid back men are your thing, darlin’, then you will adore this listen. He is the perfect Jax and portrayed him well.
This book reminds me of the first two books in the Carolina Connections series. It’s got that sparkle and joy about it and it’s also ridiculously funny. Ari and Jax are the perfect pairing. They love hard and they bicker and banter just as hard. This is a delightful book and the perfect showcase of Sylvie Stewart’s romcom expertise. I laughed out loud on many occasion - an actual LOL. This book reminds me why I’ve come to love Ms Stewart’s writing style and why I’m rating another of her books with 5 stars.
The Runaround Carolina Connections, Book 6 By: Sylvie Stewart Narrated by: Matt Hicks, Reagan West
I loved everything about this book, from Sylvie Stewart’s writing style to the wonderful storylines and characters she creates. Carolina Connections has become one of my favorite series, each book is unique in its own way featuring characters who may have been secondary characters in earlier books or newcomers to the group. I love the friendships and camaraderie amongst them and bonds that have formed throughout the series. This book brings us to Ari and Jax’s story, after meeting Ari in Liv & Brett’s book I knew she had to have her own story, she is full of personality and sass. Ari is a strong and independent woman, she works holds several jobs with an idea of working for herself one day. She does not have the best judgement when it comes to men and when she sees Jax she sees trouble. Jax Crosby recently found out he has a teenage daughter, Lola. He is usually a charmer with the women but he has no clue how to talk to Lola or how to get her to talk to him. He comes up with a plan, knowing Lola likes certain music he asks Ari to give Lola music lessons. I adored Lola, she comes off as a typical angsty teenager at first but she turns out to be much more perceptive and wise beyond her years, as most teenagers, LOL! She often stole the show in this story. I loved Arie with her and then Ari with Jax after she realized what was going on. I loved how everything plays out in this book, there is never a dull moment with plenty of drama, angst, lots of great humor and laughs, heartfelt and moving moments and some hot romance. Sylvie Stewart, thank you for another awesome book, I love your work!
I listened to the Audible edition, Matt Hicks and Reagan West are terrific narrators and voice artists. They did a great job portraying the characters and bringing them to life, giving each their own voice and personality. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured and projected the characters emotions into their performance. They landed the humor flawlessly too. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank your for this great listen🎧
Sylvie Stewart does it again. Her humor is laugh out loud good and this has to be one of the best books yet. A single dad with a teenage girl and an ex who hates him. Ari is a woman who believes men are just there for the short term. When these two get together, the banter is hysterical. I had to stifle quite a few giggles as to not wake anyone as I listened. There is so much in this story, there is drama and angst but the comedy helps to balance it all out. I could not get enough of Jax and Ari. Being a mom of adult children, I easily remember those teenage years and related well to Jax. Ari is such a strong, determined woman. It was fun to follow Jax as he broke through her walls. THis series has been so much fun, I cannot wait for the next installment.
Matt Hicks and Reagan West really brought out the laughs with their narration. matt was the perfect Jax. He really brought Jax to life. Matt has a great voice to listen to and I enjoyed his narration of Jax. Reagan really brought out the strong characteristics of Ari. Ari was an intriguing character, and Reagan easily brought her to life. Matt and Reagan's narration enhanced the overall experience of this story.
Freaking Fantastic. I am so loving Sylvie Stewarts words and The Runaround is yet another Amaing read,I really Loved it.I Listened to this in Audio and it was just briliant.!!! Jax is pushing 40 and has just found out that he is the father to a 14 year old teenage girl Lola, their relationship is strained to say the least. So in an effort to help Lola and help them bond he hires Ari to give Lola singing lessons. Sparks fly between these two and they have amazing banter and sexual chemistry...but as with all things romance nothing goes smoothely...Ari finds herself becoming an important fixture in Both Jax and Lola's life. There is drama and angst, romance and steam that will keep you on your toes as Ari and Jax try to not fall in love with one another. This is such a wonderful read and I give it all the stars. The audiobook is excellent. Matt Hicks and Reagan West are incredible they are perfect as Ari and Jax. Matt Hick's voice is enough to make anyone with a pulse lose their mind. The rumble in that mans voice will leave you breathless I definately want to listen to more of his narrations. I have listened to Reagan West before and she always gives a magnificent performance, and being Ari was no exception. A Superb read, listen and story. I highly recommend it.

I've gotten use to Sylvie Stewart style of writing so I knew I was in for a emotional rollercoaster with the final book of the series! Sylvie doesn't pull punches, she lays it out there with a spectacular plot! The way I see it Darcy was the source of hurting 3 unsuspecting people, lying to her daughter for years, assuming Jax wouldn't think twice about his daughter and abandon her like yesterday's trash, and Mitch for telling him the kid was his. Jax and Lola are two innocent victims in this plot and so is Mitch but he pulls a BS move that I can't abide by, but thank God Jax stepped up like he should even though he got a late start out the Daddy's gate! I think the entire cast of characters throughout this series are Bat Sh#& Crazy and you're gonna love each one 😅😂😂😂 Happy Reading Everyone
Ari a single gal working 3 jobs to make her dream come true of owning her own business. She sings karaoke, works at a real estate office and works her internet website business on the side. She is not looking for a long term relationship and not interested in any man. Now in comes Jax, a 40 year old bachelor that just found out he has a 14 year old daughter. He sees Ari in a bar working the karaoke stage and takes notice. His daughter decides she wants to take singing lessons from Ari and the story picks up there. The back and forth banter and characters that bring the story to life including Ari's friends and family are laugh out loud. The book drags a bit but the story keeps you interested and hoping that Ari and Jax make it together. Enjoy the fun read.
Sweet and sexy. Not my favorite in the series, but Jax and Ari are definitely a cute couple. I loved Lola and how both Jax and Ari put her first. Ari's family and the whole crew from the series make this a fun read, but it's a little more sentimental than I anticipated. Also, Jax's conflict is both something I could feel, but also total bullshit. He could have talked about his feelings. And Darcy and Mitch? I hate thinking that real people who are flatter than a cardboard cutout really exist. Very one dimensional. (I know they're out there, but still...)
That being said, it was a nice way to round out the series. I still feel like Mark and Fiona are my favorite, followed by Gavin and Emerson.
