Due to her unusual birth, Amber has abilities no other werewolf has ever possessed. On the run since childhood, the lone wolf avoids contact with other werewolves at all cost, continually moving, constantly looking over her shoulder and always alone.
Everything changes when Amber saves a werewolf from the mere brink of death, Blake, the only werewolf to ever protect her. Love blossoms, but not without tribulations when Amber realizes she must help her new pack rescue a member who is being held hostage by a rival pack.
Warring with emotions of going from lone wolf to the pack leader’s mate, Amber must decide if she is willing to risk Blake’s life to know true family and friendship despite the fact that the Council is hell bent on locating her and will stop at nothing until she is found. Will Amber’s special abilities be enough to keep everyone safe?
MaryLynn Bast resides in Las Vegas when she is not traveling the world with her job as a contractor with the US Military. Bast enjoys writing paranormal fantasy romance erotica stories because she can allow her imagination to run rampant, her characters can obtain abilities not possible in the real world...or are they?
A wolf-shape shifter novel. Needed a good edit and proofing before being published as there are lots of typos. The sex scenes are long, amateurish, and repetitive.
I don't know where people are reading in this story violence so graphic they can't handle it. Violence is there, but if you've ever read Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Anne Rice (You get the idea) the violence is few and far between and tame compared to the writings of the authors I've mentioned. There is strong erotica so if you are willingly inexperienced in the art of love, either skip over those parts or don't purchase the book. I would be unwillingly to give this to a reader in high school or grade school
Like other printed materials to date, there are errors in this book; however, I did not find that they distracted me from the story. There are not many errors, very very few unlike what a very small group have claimed. Let's be realistic here, even the most popular authors have errors in their books and some of these have been very major. The errors in this book are so few it really isn't worth mentioning. I only do because others claims the severity of the errors are so bad they couldn't read the book. These claims are ridiculous to the point of out right lies and slander.
As for the cost, this book is priced the same as all books by unknown authors on Amazon. The $3.99 or $4.99 is well below what you pay for when you purchase a book in hardback, softback or kindle format published by a big name author. Do we begrudge an artist the right to to make a profit? Every artist prices so that they can recoup costs, make a little profit to invest in their next creation and something to help live on. If the $3 to$5 for this book is too much, I recommend you become a member of your local library.
No Remorse was a fun suspenseful adventure with plenty of thrills and twists to keep you guessing. MaryLynn has presented the world with a new type of werewolf. No one has come close to such unique ideas in the socialization, abilities, clans and hierarchies in the lives of these creatures. This is not your parent's werewolf tale! This is unlike anything ever told, written or brought to screen. Every page introduces us to a new vision of this frightening fairy tale creature. Very well done!
This is a first novel and as firsts are, not quite at the level we expect from those who have been writing successfully for years. If you have read the books MaryLynn has published since No Remorse you'll note that the level of maturity and professionalism increase with each new story.
Author Marilyn Bast is truly innovative when it comes to telling the story of the werewolf. No one in the history of this genre has come close in concept and creativity what this author has done. She is a complete surprise. If you were like me as a kid, staying up until midnight Friday nights so you could catch the horror flicks that ran until 4am, you are going to love this book as well as One Bite To Passion and A Justified Kill. I am a big fan of horror, blood and gore. Always have been and it's what I read. Mainly. It is also what I write. And as I've said, compared to the writers listed above this is tame, but when it comes to the classic horror flicks it rates a bit more on violence and gore. Trust me, you won't have nightmares and you won't delete the book. More than likely you'll recommend it and even pass it along. Smartly, you will recommend it and save it in your library to read again sometime in the future.
Do what I do and support our budding authors and make sure you read in a genre you like. If you claim to like horror or even liked the Twilight series on television, but then turn around and say this is too violent, then I say you've never read a horror book, seen the classic horror films or watched Twilight. Far and away Twilight had much more violence and gore. Don't let the nay sayers put you off if you are a fan of werewolf stories because these reviews couldn't be further from the truth. Besides any true fan of horror just plain loves the stuff. The more the merrier I say!
So one reviewer thinks other reviewers were picking on another reviewer, well by all means screw the artist over for something she can't control by rating her low. What an incredibly intelligent thing to do. Lets hurt this author because of something someone else did. This decision not only lacks intelligence it gives you away as a friend of the vindictive, mean spirited reviewer and blogger who continues to stalk and bad mouth this author. I don't know why you clowns continue. You're failing miserably, B'H".
This is yet another werewolf book that was rushed. It seems like werewolf writers are so focused on the action scenes that they leave out plot and character development. Things just...happen. For example, the bad guy very quickly stops being the bad guy. I did enjoy some parts of this book, like the fact that there are a lot of wolf scenes, and they're described beautifully.
The main character is Amber. She’s been on the run almost her whole life, half of that was with her mom. Her mom even told her to stay away from packs, since they may try and hurt her if they found out about her. (Her mom's a bit biased, as she admitted to Amber that she was raped by her werewolf pack the first time she changed. Perfect way to traumatize a child into having commitment issues, and this does create conflict between Amber and her mother later on.) Given her situation, I thought that she'd keep trying to run when she does run into an old friend (Blake), so she doesn't risk getting hurt. Nope, instead she pulls a complete character reversal and starts an immediate romance with him. I find it hard to believe that someone who's been on the run for so long would decide to sleep with and stay with someone. Even when she’s thinking about running away, it’s one sided as Blake convinces her not to right away. I did find that when Amber shows her new powers to Blake, it was well done. Who wouldn't want to show off being invisible? To have that in a pack can be a helpful if danger arrives or to use it like they did in the book.
The idea for the plot was good, though it moved a bit too fast for events to properly develop. I enjoyed the background story of Amber and how she is in present day. I did find the beginning a bit confusing, as the first chapter's events jumped out of chronological order. One minute she knows the name of a camper she’s hunting, the next it’s before she met him when she was first coming up to him. Then she’s killing him and eating him, and suddenly it's back to where she met him and how they fought. It's as if someone copy-pasted the story out of order during editing. However, after the messy first chapter, events become slightly clearer. Amber meets Blake and the pack, becoming Blake's mate after meeting him for the first time in years. She also discovers things about her mother that shake up her world and her reasons for why she thought she did things. At the end of the book, the bad guy Isaac wakes up and decides to appear out of no where and go after Amber. This is odd, since when I watched the trailer it showed that the main bad guy who was after Amber is Isaac, but you don’t meet him till the ending.
Details are also added to the book that I don't think are needed. There's a small appearance of the vampire, and her powers are only briefly explained. Some of her powers aren't really even needed, adding to the redundancy of her character. I think this book could have been fine without there being vampires included in the book. The witches that appeared, that made sense. They were part of the reason why Amber was kept hidden for so long, but vampires did nothing for the story line. Even the inclusion of some of Amber's abilities didn't make sense.
As I mentioned before, I found that the romance happened too suddenly. In real life, people take time to get to know each other. Even friends who've known each other for years take their time when they move into the dating world. I did like the few sex scenes the the book. They were hot, and kept me interested. I don't know if others would agree with me, but I found the sex scenes to be among the few good pieces of the book.
I was looking forward to something epic, but was a bit disappointed by a filler in the middle of the book. Events jumped and took place too quickly. The middle filler was honestly just that, filler, boring and not very exciting. If there is a second book, I hope that it's better written and more flushed out. This one was anticlimactic. I'm hoping that the second book will be better and resolve things more clearly.
This is an alright right read, I do recommend you try it out or read a few more reviews then decide.
No Remorse by MaryLynn Bast was an interesting book to read. It was well-written, the characters were likable and the story gave a very good insight into the werewolf world.
Regarding the plot:
Meet Amber, a lonely werewolf who has been running all her life. Amber’s mother has told her horrifying stories about what will happen if they get caught by the pack and the werewolf council from which Amber’s mother has been running from.
Amber’s mother has filled Amber with fear and not to trust anybody. Suddenly Amber is totally alone, her mother is taken away from her and Amber is sent to a home for werewolves who have no packs and she comes through lot of abuse before she can escape from there. The only person whom she trusts is a young werewolf Blake who is organizing and helping her to be on a run again.
Due to an accident Amber and Blake meet again years later. Their friendship grows as their feeling towards each other start to develop. Amber is very afraid to trust him, but so far Blake has been the only person who is supporting her. After she finds out that Blake is an alpha male in a big pack, her doubts are increasing because what Amber’s mother told her about wolf packs and how the packs are treating their females. Amber does not want to be controlled by anybody.
When Amber is discovering her different abilities she has, she gets even more cautious, but when Blake supports her and helps her to understand and discover her abilities their relationship grows even stronger.
The story and the plot are good. There are many descriptions how the mind of Amber works, how she sees the world around her and how she is surrounded by the mistrust towards others and you get to know Amber very good during the story. That was definitely a strong part of the story.
I also enjoyed the twists and turns in the story, because there were quite many of them. It was well thought through, so it never got boring. It keeps the reader interested. I also liked, that even though it’s a series, it seems that every book in the series is standalone novel.
The plot is very character driven and the characters are given a lot to the whole plot.
Regarding the characters:
I liked Amber. She is incredibly strong woman by surviving all alone in the world. I also loved how the author developed her through learning to trust others of her kind. I loved reading how she learned to love and belong.
Blake was my favorite character in No Remorse. He gave space to Amber when she needed and by giving her independence and freedom of choice, he also took away Amber’s doubts about belonging to a wolf pack. He taught her how to love and trust.
Generally:
No Remorse by MaryLynn Bast is a good start for the series. I will definitely be looking forward to the next book written by her. No Remorse was well-written; it had an interesting story to tell. I would recommend it to readers who love good paranormal romance.
No remorse is the debut Novel of Marylynn Bast - I must say I was impressed at the story put forth, unique and certainly one of a kind. The concept of A werewolf having capabilities of no other was very intriguing and this alone kept my interest piqued, and a female to boot. !!! Who doesnt like a strong heroine !!
Her character put forth was certainly strong willed and capable of anything. Amber was kick arse, strong and very self sufficient relying upon only herself and being a loner in life. Amber finds it hard to blend in - making new pack life not easy for her mentally, but in time with Blake by her side things go better than she ever anticipated.
Amber stumbles upon a wrecked truck thinking she is going to get her next meal, to find the driver behind the wheel is the guy she walked away from ten years prior. Certainly did not see that coming !!! I think at this part, my heart was also pounding with Ambers ** lol **
I enjoyed Blake's character, the head of his pack the leader - and Alpha male , Strong, and a man with all good intentions for his people and his life. Upon meeting Amber again all his feeling have only grown stronger. The chemistry between Amber and Blake was certainly a panty buncher for Amber , never before has she felt so strongly or wanted a man so much. The lovin between Amber and Blake was certainly ** like a fire ignited ** smokin hot - filled with lust, passion and love ** sparks flighing everywhere ** Hot love scenes that will makes your eyelashes flutter and heart pump. Marylynn has certainly put forth the sexy scenes and filled them with the right amounts of emotion and at times very vivid descriptions ** waggles eyebrows **.
The concept of Amber having different capabilities was well done, this was put forth well, and certainly intriguing.
I found at the beginning it was a tad slow - I was a little held back ,,,,, but rest assured after the first few chapters, and the back story introduced, you will be eager to find out more. Storyline was alot of back story into Amber's past, but this also essential into the new life that Amber must go forth with. This meshed out well towards the end to give us an unpredictable ending, some good twists and turns throughout. A great start to a new series. I'm eager to know where Adam's part comes in and also some of the other characters put forth.
For all the paranormal readers out there whom enjoy an intriguing storyline, filled with smokin sex scenes ** wink wink ** and wonderfully delivered characters then this read is for you.!! Marylynn has put this forth well, to give the story and the love between the characters that spark and sizzle we like to see ! Action packed, Vampire - Werewolves, Witches - and much more !
Amber is a werewolf who always knew she was different. She didn't have the ability to change into a wolf until well past the age most female wolves change. Plus she's been on the run since childhood living in hotels, working in bars, and keeping herself hidden from the other werewolves of the world.
Everything changes when Amber witnesses a car accident and finds the man trapped inside to be her teenage crush, Blake. She saves his life but then runs from the only werewolf she trusts in the world. He finds her the next day and they realize their love for each other and mate.
Amber soon learns mating isn't everything she thought it would be, especially when her mate is the leader of a werewolf pack. When a member of the pack is kidnapped but another local pack Amber must decide whether she should flee as her mind is telling her too or if she should stay with the man she loves and show their pack her special abilities.
This book took me a while to get into but once it got rolling it was an easy read. I enjoyed the action, the fighting, and learning about the werewolves and their pack. There are several sex scenes in the book as well. I enjoyed the first one but the next few were more of the same and ended up feeling stale.
The main story of Amber choosing whether or not to stay with her mate Blake or whether to run is what kept me reading the book. Her emotions were real and as she tried to decide she learned a lot about herself in the process. While I enjoyed the story and liked what eventually happened in the book, I felt like the end was rushed. A lot happened in the last 30 pages and most of it was not believable. Many new details of Amber's life come out and there's too much filled in at the end.
Overall, readers that enjoy paranormal stories will most likely enjoy this light, easy read.
Amber is left on her own after her mother is taken away and returned to the council. She hasn't shifted yet and really knows nothing about being a werewolf even though she is a born wolf.
She is sent to an orphange for wolves who have no homes or are not wanted. She makes friend with Blake and soon turmoil with other wolves forces her out of the home and Blake helps her escape.
While out running her wolf watches and a car goes off the road and Amber goes to investigate. She knows she should not get involved but she is drawn to the smell of blood. Her choice to check out the car sets off a chain reaction that will change her life.
It took me a few pages to get into the book. The opening I thought was a little long and I got bored and wanted the story to move along. Once we got past the first 30 or so pages the book picks up.
This is not a YA book, there are a few sex scenes. The first I enjoyed but the next few a actually ended up skimming through. I like sex in my books, even strong sexual tension will do if it's done right. But doing it right also applies to stories having several sex scenes. You need variety in order to keep the readers attention and keep it steamy. I felt like they did the same thing but in a different location and added a move or two.
I did however like the spin that were put on Amber's abilities. I like that she was strong and even though she didn't understand how to be a werewolf she had no fear and would not be bullied.
There is mention of vampires (and a small appearance of one) and other shifters but they didn't get any time in this book.
I enjoyed this book. It is different than most werewolf books that I have read. It has other supernatural creatures in it also but they are not the main focus. I loved the characters in this book as well as the story line. It is an unusual and engaging read that will have you turning the pages to see what happens next.
The characters were well written and three dimensional. I enjoyed getting to know them as we move through the story. The main character, Amber, is tough, smart and self-sufficient. She is able to outwit her pursuers to stay ahead of them. She also possesses unusual abilities for a werewolf due to her birth and is just learning what she can do. Blake is also a strong character. He is smart, fair and loving but has enough sense to let Amber go when she needs to be by herself. The only thing I still have questions on is Adam. He has a gift also but it seems that it is just accepted. We don’t know how or why and we aren’t given much information. I am hoping that maybe he is in the next book?
The plot of this book was unique to me and I enjoyed it. We got to discover Amber’s past and abilities as she discovered them herself. There were several villains in this story and each was dealt with appropriately and as I would envision a wolf pack would handle it. I found the storyline interesting and kept me reading on.
All in all really good book and I would recommend that you buy it! I give it 5 stars. I will read the next in the series.
the book revolve around Amber. Amber is a werewolf, a special one but she didn't realize that she was special. from early on, her mother told her that their lives are in danger if they're caught by her home pack, thus the need of constant moving. but at one point, when her mother finally found a man, Amber begged to let them stay there and live normally. but, there, her mother was caught and was forced to return to her home pack. young amber managed to flee with the help of an old man who introduced himself as her grand father and brought her to an orphanage. there she met Blake.
for me, the book gives a new spin on the werewolf tale. certain birth day brings special power, mixing blood can mixed the abilities, etc. and the pack live is different from others werewolves book that i've read before. it's fun to read how amber and blake interact, amber and blake's pack member, amber and her family. though i feel that she's way too easy to forgive and forget (regarding her family) but overall it's still sweet to see she finally reconnect with her family. at the beginning of the book, i had a little trouble following the storyline (it jumped back and forth between present day and the past) but maybe it's because the lack of markers. and i feel the ending was a little bit rushed. even with these minor discomfort, i still able to enjoy the book. it's a light reading for werewolves fans, not to gory and bloody. great job for a debut novel.
MaryLynn Bast has written a wonderfully unique werewolf story, very well written you really get a feel for what the characters are going through. I love strong characters and Amber is the perfect balance she will not let anyone mess with her or the people she loves.
Due to her unusual birth, Amber has abilities no other werewolf has ever possessed. Amber and her mother are on the run, But when her mother is caught. Amber is forced to leave on her own When she ends up at a house for young werewolves who have nowhere to go She meets Blake. But not long after she must leave again. After being on the run for so long it’s the only thing she knows how to do. But then everything changes one day when Amber sees a car go off the road and down an embankment. It turns out to be Blake the only werewolf who’s protected her. When she falls in love with him she knows she must help the pack rescue a member being held hostage by a rival pack. But will Amber be willing to risk Blake’s life? Will her special abilities be enough to keep everyone safe in the end?
This is a werewolf romance, focusing on a loner wolf and how she meets someone who changes her world. Overall the plot is good and the sex scenes of which there are quite a few are well written.
Unfortunatly for this book the first few chapters are the worst written and felt as if it had been tacked on at the end, this made it quite hard to get into. I thought that I would be able to read this than I did because the writing was plain and it was in short chapters, but I found some elements uncomfortable. The transitions between wolf and human were disjoited and the whole naarative would be a lot easier if the book was a first person narrative.
Also the feminist side of me disliked the possesiveness of both characters, (although I believe this is sympotomatic of the genre as a whole), and found some of the later interactions between Amber and her mother a lit unrealistic.
All this being said I did think this was quite a good werewolf romance and a good book one in the series.
No Remorse is Book 1 of the Heart of a Wolf Series by MaryLynn Bast. The book follows, Amber, a lone werewolf as she finds a mate as well as a pack and finds out who she really is. Her past comes back full force and she has to quickly realize who she is. Amber realizes she was never as alone as she once thought. I fell in love with this book and with a few of the characters. It was difficult to put down. MaryLynn quickly put herself on my list of top writers. It was greatly written and the story line flowed smoothly. There is twist which can change everything. This was my first read by MaryLynn Bast and I can happily say it will not be my last. I look forward to the second book and more from her. I highly recommend this book and give it 5 out of 5 stars. *This book does contain adult material.
Amber is a powerful and independent woman. Readers will crave her courage and envy her romance. I absolutely loved this story it is powerful, intense, and heart melting. Amber has learned to accept what it means to be alone. With absolutely no one to lean on she has learned to be self reliant. For years, she has been running from the same group of men. They will stop at nothing to find her, and she refuses to take that road. When she stumbles across a car wreck her life is about to change drastically. Amber and Blake of a powerful history, and the reuniting of these two is an amazing and thrilling experience. I felt slightly overwhelmed by the amount of sex in this book, but it was effortlessly wrapped into this incredible read. I can not wait to continue the series. Softest Touch is due early 2013, and it will be an excruciating wait. ~BookWhisperer Reviewer JO~
It's been years since I have sat down to read a book, Now I'm hooked!!!
I picked up No Remorse and it reminded me how much I used to enjoy reading. I had a hard time putting it down. Life kept getting in the way and I just wanted to keep reading. The story was intriguing from the very beginning. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen, but was sad that the story actually had to end. I look forward to reading the next novel in the series and getting to know MaryLynn’s characters even more
I loved the ebook so much I had to go and get the paper back!
The first 15% of the book is a big info-dump. The author could have probably come up with a better way of giving a history lesson. After you get past the 6th chapter however the book really takes flight. It is a good story and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Amber is a werewolf with very peculiar powers. She’s spent her life on the run, working odd jobs and living out of motels, all to evade the werewolf pack that murdered her mother’s family. But when her teenage crush, Blake, ends up in mortal danger, Amber swings into action—and so does their firestorm romance.
With her old pack and the Council of werewolves at her heels, Amber must fight to protect her new pack, and to survive.
Like vampires, werewolves have seen more than their fair share of literary action in the last decade—Twilight, the Sookie Stackhouse novels, Harry Potter—you get the picture. That said, No Remorse is exactly what you would expect in the era of True Blood and Underworld: a novel about werewolves living among us in packs, who change at the full moon, and who terrorize their human prey.
I do think there is a place for a novel like No Remorse in today’s literary world. Werewolves are well-loved, and there is undoubtedly still a market for them. Unfortunately, the craft of No Remorse fails to live up to expectations.
Like many independent publications (No Remorse is published by Bast’s independent publishing house, Werewolf Tails Publishing), I think the problem boils down to a lack of professional editing—it shows in the story development, frequent typos, and basic punctuation mistakes. Early in the novel, Bast struggles with the stretching and collapsing of time. She gives the early years of Amber’s life the summary treatment, missing a great opportunity to build the reader’s empathy. Similarly, Amber’s love interest, Blake, is introduced in a single sentence: “Since arriving at the school a couple weeks after she had, Blake had been a true friend and she trusted him.” We are never told how Blake became a true friend, or more importantly, why a girl running for her life would come to trust him.
There is also some confusion in No Remorse over which character is telling the story. At first, our third-person narrator only gives us insight into Amber’s thoughts and feelings; but as the novel goes on, perspective suddenly shifts to Blake, and even other minor characters. I wasn’t sure which character deserved my sympathies, and it left me unable to trust Bast’s narration. Of course, I’ve seen this phenomenon occur even in big-time publications with professional editors, so perhaps it is a matter of taste.
Bast does excel at pacing her action sequences and rolling out realistic, catchy dialogue, which helps carry the middle of the novel. As a writer, this is probably her strongest area; sequences with low tension seem to be harder. The sex scenes in No Remorse are long and gratuitous. I realize that erotica is often a key component in paranormal novels aimed at an adult audience, but as a reader I found myself skimming to get back to the story.
As for the rest of the novel? There were so many sudden revelations and twists in the back-story that I lost track of what was true and what wasn’t. I love a good surprise—don’t get me wrong—but at some point, I wasn’t able to suspend my disbelief any longer. Perhaps werewolves have simply outlived their time.
***This book is not recommended for those under the age of 18, sexual content***
I feel like one word could some this book up...Intense! MaryLynn Bast is an amazing writer, this is the second story I have read of hers, granted the first was just a short story to No Remorse, I have loved both so far. No Remorse is full of Passion, Secrets and so much more. MaryLynn Bast had me hooked from the beginning, I recommend this book to any one who loves paranormal romance!!
Amber was taught to stay on the run at a young age, her mother taught her to fear being in a pack and to trust no one. So when she runs into Blake, her instincts tell her to run but her wolf and heart tell her to stay. She is immediately drawn to Blake, of course her wolf knows Blake is the one it wants to be mated with. This also isn't Blake and Amber's first time meeting when they were younger they had met in a halfway house for young wolfs on the run, and they were drawn to each other then. Amber hadn't been able to connect with anybody since meeting Blake years ago nor did she really want to, especially with her always being on the run.
When Amber decides to stay and is introduced to Blake's pack, she is scared, she remembers all the stories her mother told her about pack rules and the way the treated one another. Blake is trying to assure her that things have changed since her mother was in a pack, that is pack is different and he will let nothing hurt her.
Amber is immediately thrown into the pack with Blake when things go all sorts of crazy when another pack wants revenge. However, Amber is there to help and step up 100% of the way, she finds that with in such a short time she is starting to care for these pack members.
Through out this whole deal with the other pack and the war raging inside Amber about whether she wants to stay in the pack or not, things have gotten hot and steamy between her and Blake and they have mated, whether she liked really wanted to or not. She has also found out that she has abilities like no other wolf but can't figure out why, but these abilities come in handy when it comes time to face the other pack.
Soon it's obvious that Blake wants her to stay with him, with his pack and he wants to make it official, however, Amber is still not sure about being in a pack.
No Remorse surprised the hell out of me. When I started reading it I thought that this was going to be a straight up action novel about Werewolves. It is more than that. The author takes you into the mind of Amber, the main character, in the beginning. You learn how the Werewolf hunts, what makes Amber tick and why she is on the run. As the story moves along you are drawn into this world, a world filled with action, romance and mystery. I found it hard to stop reading. The author's writing is complex but in a good way and full of depth. The characters are well written and so is the dialect between characters. I loved the plot line. It kept me on the edge of my seat. There are twists and turns that I did not expect to happen. Amber is a strong willed woman. She even stands up to Blake and his Alpha Male dominance. I like that in a female character. Amber is an advanced wolf too. Evidently being born on a full moon has it's advantages. Pretty cool advantages at that. Blake to me comes off as a level headed Alpha wolf, well that is until Amber comes back into his life. Once they are mated she tends to want to push his boundaries. I think that she brings mystery and spice into what could be a mundane life. Adam was my favorite character. He has a story that I am dying to hear. I hope that he will eventually get his own book. I love all the other characters but he is my favorite. You get bits and pieces of him but I know that there is more to him. I wonder how he seems to know certain things. At the beginning of this book I was a little put off. I was not expecting the first part to really just be about Amber , her thoughts and reminiscing. After further reading I appreciated that part in the book. It is needed in order for you to understand her and relate with her as the story grows. Otherwise you will never truly understand why she is basically so rude when she finally meets up with other wolves as an adult. Who wouldn't be that away after everything she went through. Overall I enjoyed this book. It was entertaining and quite steamy. I look forward to other books in this series. Due to steamy scenes I recommend this book for 18yrs+

I won No Remorse in a giveaway that was celebrating the release. The synopsis is a good overview of what to expect from the storyline and I was very excited to read it as it was right up my fun read alley. I have to say I was certainly not disappointed. I felt it held up to the hype and in fact enjoyed it so much I finished it in day, not being able to put it down. I feel No Remorse was very well written. I really enjoyed the world building with its new twists and absolutely loved the characters. The characters are fun; you have your good guys and your bad guys and of course the awesome elements of kicking hinny that I have come to expect and appreciate in an urban fantasy treat. My only complaint was that I wanted more! As soon as I finished No Remorse I immediately got on line, actually feeling a little silly as here I was on release day wanting to know if there would be a next installment, but my efforts were rewarded. Yes there is more to come and I can tell you right now I will be standing in line to continue this journey.
Amber is a werewolf, and she has special abilities that others of her kind don’t have. She has been on the run since she was young with her mother. Amber is left on her own after her mother is taken by council enforcers.
Amber comes across an accident, her wolf is eager to go over, but when she does, Amber stops dead in her tracks as she realizes, that it’s Blake the only person who ever protected her. Back in school, he was the only one she felt safe with, she knew he had feeling for her and she did too but she couldn’t let him come and get hurt because of her. Amber has spent years alone not letting anyone closes to her, but she’s getting tired of running. Amber and Blake start to rekindle their love for one another and she wondered if she could really belong with Blake and belong with a pack.
When pack members are taken, Amber come up with a plan to save them, she will have to share her special abilities with her new the pack. Amber starts to care about what happens to the pack and it scares her.
Will the council come for her? And if they do will she be able to protect Blake and her new pack or will she lose everything she cares about.
~ My thoughts ~
I thought No Remorse was a great read, the storyline was unique, and I really enjoyed it. I found myself wanting Amber to find a place she could stay and be safe, I liked Amber because she’s a very strong and independent. What I wanted for Blake was to be with me, what a girl can wish. I wanted him to be with Amber because he loved her so much and never stopped. Blake is loyal, a protector, and very loving. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. I would definitely recommend this book.
I got this book free on Amazon when I was browsing one day. I am so glad I found it. The beginning of the story was a bit slow for me only because it was bits and pieces of Amber's back story mixed in with where she was currently. I kept asking myself "ok, where is this going", but when Amber found Blake the story got good. Amber is special, she can do things that other werewolves can't, so her mother is hiding her. She knows very little about her kind, which proves dangerous for her when she is on her own. While running through the woods in her wolf form she finds a car wreck, inside is Blake, someone she knew from long ago. Finding Blake was the best thing to happen to Amber. Blake is her life mate, Amber needs him more than she knows. Blake will help her learn the ways of being a werewolf and help her unlock some mysteries of her abilities. I loved Amber and Blake, plus Adam and Marcello... Amber is so determined in this story to stay alone to keep everyone safe that she sacrifices her own happiness. Blake, no matter what Amber says about keeping her independence, Blake will follow her anywhere. This story has all the elements to pull you in, adventure, mystery, fighting, romance and those awe moments.
This is the first book in Marylynn Bast's new were series, but not the first I have read from it. I read A Justified Kill first. It is technically a prequel, but I read it out of order. I think that having read it first actually made reading book one... more. I know that is not a sentence, but it is the best I can do to describe it. I enjoyed this first book and am looking forward to more books in the series. I probably should have given it a 3 1/2 because it did have some editing flaws. I am not an editing freak, so it did not bug me much, but I did notice it. What I really liked about this series and what makes me think it is going to be a really great series is the fact that Marylynn does not forget about the fact that shifters are animals and not just humans. I am a huge shifter addict and more and more books I have read lately have the shifters being basically humans with a power. I like that she explores the other side. I have been more actively seeking books with this type of feel and it is not overly easy. I am excited to see where the author takes this series next. The ending was a bit different than I thought it would be, so there are a lot of possibilities;
The first 5 or 6 chapters are building Amber's background so that we can understand a little about who she is and where she comes from. An introduction to Werewolf law and traditions. An extended prologue of sorts. A story of a wolf with 'special' abilities because she was born on the full moon. Felling alone in the world, until she meets her soul mate and becomes part of his pack. In the process learning the truth about herself and her past. Things are not always as they seem. MaryLynn Bast explores how werewolves living amongst humans and living up to Pack laws and Traditions can sometimes spell disaster, but there is always good and bad among the species, Just like any race. There is quite a few explicit scenes in the book that get the pulses racing in the way they are intended. It tells of true love and the link that soul mates share.
There are a few problems in the editing of this version of the book. But for me that doesn't take much away from the story. I find myself immersed in the story and able to overlook these errors.
An easy Paranormal/Fantasy Romance story with some twists but has a happily ever after.
MaryLynn had me from the word go. Amber’s character intrigued me so much that when I was forced to put the book down, I found it very hard to leave it that way. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. As the story unfolds Amber’s life, already less than ideal unravels even more. She’s left to discover her unique abilities on her own and fear creatures like her. She lives her life on the run until she runs into the one man she can’t turn her back on. I loved the chemistry between Amber and Blake. As sure as she was he wasn’t going to control her, he knew she was destined to be his. He was ready and willing to face her past and deal with any part of it that might catch up with her. She however, wanted nothing more than to tuck tail and run. Despite herself, she lets herself walk through uncharted territory to explore the feelings she has for him. In the process she’s able to learn even more about herself and her past. NO REMORSE is a book full of heart-pumping action, steamy hot love scenes and characters that will stay with you long after you’ve put the book down. It will also leave you wanting more. Without spoiling the ending for anybody…It was perfect.
I have the fortune of being in a book club on Facebook with the Author (shout out to "I SMELL SHEEP"), and won this book and "Justified Kill" also from the talented Ms/Mrs Bast. To that I say.. YAY ME!!
Being an avid reader of all things hybrid/shifter and paranormal genres, I would say that these two books ("Justified" is a novella, the backstory to "No Remorse") have to be in my top favorites for sure.
The storyline is detailed without dragging on (my attention span is limited at times so believe me when I say that lol), the romantic scenes steamy but not over the top and I am pleased to say that i finished both books in roughly a 48 hour period, and was disappointed that i was done already.
Im looking very forward to Adams book, and to reading the next 3 books i just got my hands on from this author.
I highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys the PNR genre.
Am not usually a fantasy reader, but MaryLynn sent a copy of her book to me here, in Australia. Feel very priviledged to be one of the first Aussies to read her book and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be recommending to my Aussie friends and hopefully, we may be able to help her get distribution here. Have a lot of friends who are Fantasy readers who would love it.
My first thoughts of No Remorse were that the story started off slow and the writing was not that good. I contemplated giving up, but I am so glad I did not. Amber is a great character. She's strong and independent. Blake is her perfect counterpart. Their relationship is fun and entertaining. This book was full of surprises and I really enjoyed it!
A really great story involving a wolf pack. The woman full of angst waiting for prince charming to make everything ok....only involving some very unique twists and turns. This story had me quietly smiling to hiding sneaky tears. It really is worth reading, I will most definatly be following with book two
A good werewolf/paranormal romance. The only thing that i didn't really like is the fact that she hunted people, but i guess the fact taht they were assholes that she took down kind of redeamed her. Will Probably read the next one to see what happens.
