Rate this book
A thrilling new suspense trilogy with a twist. For a thousand years, an ancient and all-powerful vampire god has lain dormant in the Mayan jungle. In 1850, he awakes - and sets out for Europe...

Camazotz and his band of vampires have left Paris, but they're one step ahead of Jack and his friends. The vampire god has managed to secure nearly all the pieces of a powerful amulet that will give him power beyond imagining. There's only one piece missing, and it's in Mexico - the seat of Camazotz's power.

Now Jack, Ben, and Emily must follow the vampire god to the Yucatan peninsula. Their only hope is to find the missing piece before he does. But the jungle is a dangerous place. And fighting Camazotz on his home turf will prove to be their greatest challenge yet....

I finished this book in a few hours, another easy read. The ending was unpredictable because I know there are 2 or 3 more books in the series. I wonder if the author had originally intended for this to be the last book in the series. *ponder*

For being a Juvenile book, I am stunned!! Without question one of the spookiest group of books I have read in a long time!! It is the monster-under-the-bed, dark-foggy-tunnel, neck-hair-raising type of SPOOKY. Normally, after having read adult fiction, the younger categories are usually not detailed enough for me. I am always left feeling the tale was not complete. Not the case with the Vampire Plagues! I absolutely recommend if you want a good old school thrill that gets your heart pumping and your nerves edgy! A Must Read!

I really enjoyed this series!! Very suspenseful books. These were written for younger people, the main characters are 12 and 13, but I liked them.

I finished this book today to finally complete the original trilogy. As an adult, I have to admit, unabashedly, that I will be reading the next three books out of nostalgia. And what a trip down memory lane this was!
Jack is a good protagonist, he reminds me of Wolverine from the X-Men, disheveled and hardened by his Oliver Twist street life. Ben and Emily are better characters, imo, mainly because the story spends more time with them and their father's legacy.
Still, it's a good series and it made me feel better, which is the bigger takeaway. I love a book that can make me feel better after reading it. I felt like it was the 90's again (not too far from the early-mid 2000's when this was published) and I was watching some cartoons in my childhood basement. Hell, if they turned this into a show, I'd watch it.

I was given the first two books in the trilogy by a friend who could not find the third. I ordered it from our local library and when I picked it up I walked through their used book sale. What did I find? A like new copy! Yay! I read the library copy and completed my set at the same time.

If you like the ancient demon style of vampire that can't bear the sun, can manipulate your thoughts, requires three bites to turn a victim, and dissolves to ash when vanquished then this trilogy is for you. Set in 1840 and 1850, it's filled with archaeology, intense action, problem solving, deep thinking, character development, and world travel. Not to mention a brave young trio of heroes! Hmmm...

A great read!

I fished this book, along with dozens of others, out of a dumpster of free books a few months ago. I've slowly been making my way through that haul. This is one book that could have stayed behind.

Don't misunderstand me. It wasn't badly written. The kids are kind to each other and respectful to others. However, I don't like any piece of entertainment that infantilizes demons and demon-fighting.

I don't want the kids in my life worrying about demons or having those ideas floating around in their heads as fodder for nightmares. Kids come across more than enough freaky stuff in the general run of things.

This felt like the weakest of the trilogy. The story starts of slow and then rushes at the end. The ending seemed a little too fast and anticlimactic. After dealing with a god for three books, the characters didn't seem to develop too much. However, again, Rook continues to do good with research and lifelike descriptions of new worlds at least to the three teenagers. Themes of good versus evil came out in this book.

4 stars and a half,
I enjoyed this very much, it is fast paced and to the point, there is no unneeded stretching , nor unneeded teen Romance, it is just perfect scary vampire adventure, the chr. all are liked, and the thrill is true fun, though it could have been all combined in one book, as it is very short and very fast paced, Ii wonder how the next trilogy will go.

Overall this is a great childrens series. It's engaging, suspenseful, incorporates ancient lore, and has plenty of plot twists. I struggled with this last book though because I felt it had several plot holes that made it hard for me to buy in to the story.

Love this entry in the series! As a big fan of archeological endeavors as well as Mayan culture, being plunked right into the heart of historic jungles is a wonderful way to carry on this tale.

I actually finished at this book as I kinda felt like this was the ending to the series and hence didn't have anymore books in the series which I discovered there are 3 more today but I have decided I just want to leave my series at this book.

Just due to I feel this was a great way to end the story of Emily, Jack and Ben in there fight against camatoz.

So this is where my review for this series ends but what a great series and so enjoyed the story lines

I absolutely love the way Rook incorporates all kinds of vampiric lore into these books. He can really tie the loose ends all together at the end as well. I really enjoyed reading these stories, though now I would think that they'd be almost too easy for me to re-read. Almost....

I really enjoyed the third part of the trilogy. There was plenty of action and a few surprises. The story had me on the edge of my seat a few times which was very refreshing for a juvenile read. I recommend this trilogy to anyone who is looking for a great read about vampires.

Better than the first two. It was good enough for me to want to find out what happens next.
