Yassssss!! You go Ken and Lenore!! Lenore is my favorite character in this series; so happy we got to see her and Ken’s untold tale!! The others were awesome too!

As with the first volume of Untold Tales this one has three more stories to tell. These ones are just as addictive and interesting as the ones in the first volume, and I couldn't stop reading. Rhiannon has gone so in depth with developing the various characters and it's just amazing. The way she writes, you really feel a connection to each and every one of them.
The first story in this volume is Katarina's story which it called Revelation. This was the only one of the stories where the character is not trying to get to Ashley Oaks, but starts out there. Everything starts off pretty normal for her. She is at her job at the cafe, fending off a super creepy dude who is a regular. Normally she wouldn't have to deal with him, but one of the other employees has the day off. She normally will take his orders so Katarina doesn't have to deal with him. I really feel bad for Katarina learning a bit about her life, which I won't go into details. Her day takes a turn when an injured man comes into the cafe. He ends up turning all crazy zombie, and Katarina's survival instincts kick in. She goes all tough chick and it pretty much rocks. She knows she needs to get out of there and go home to find her mother. As she ventures out she sees there are zombies everywhere. Will she be able to make it to safety?
The next story is The Unknowns Story called A Terrible Moment. We do find out what the people's names are in the story, but I will leave them out since it is called the unknowns. This one takes place in an orange juice factory. The woman is there with her soon to be ex- husband, his secretary, the plant manager, their twin boys, and baby girl. There are bars on the windows, and they are relatively safe inside. The wife is a bit psycho though and is convinced that her hubs is sleeping with the secretary. I didn't like the wife at all. I thought she was crazy and selfish. She is so wrapped around her feelings that she doesn't even know how neglectful she has been to her kids, and doesn't care about anything but hurting her husband and the secretary. She is awful to be around and honestly I would have friggin drop kicked her in the head rather than listen to her. Her husband and the plant manager are trying to formulate a plan to get out of there and get somewhere a bit safer. Some unfortunate circumstances make the zombie contamination get inside the safety of the factory. This one had me so angry I can't even explain!! Does anyone manage to escape?
The final story in the book is Lenore and Ken's story, Friendship in the Time of Zombies. This story is equally scary and touching. Ken and Lenore work together in a beauty shop. Ken actually owns it. The poor guys boyfriend left him to run off with some other guy after Ken had moved out there with him. Lenore and him are really close. They are at work when the zombies invade their town. They manage to hole up in the upstairs for a while, but they know they will have to get out of there somehow. Mr Cloy the man who owns the hardware store next door helps them escape the building.
Lenore goes home to find her gram so they can all get away and try to find somewhere safe. They end up taking a neighbors RV and hiding out for a while until the zombies have finally gotten to where they have hidden. Their fight for survival and the lengths they have to go are amazing. I loved getting to know them. I think they are both really fantastic characters and I was gripping my nook hoping for the best for them. I had a tight knot in my stomach at every close call. Do they escape the zombies?
I have enjoyed getting to know all of these characters in both this volume and the first one. Now I really have to read the As The World Dies series. I love the depth of the characters and how you notice their stories tying together. This is a must read!

I was so excited to have the opportunity to read this. Let me tell you this book was fantastic! I love how much attention to detail is given to the characters. One of the reasons I tend to shy away from short stories is I'm always left wanting more, but these stories left me feeling satisfied. That of course is not to say I wouldn't read an Untold Tales Vol. 3 or more. In fact I'd be perfectly happy to have more of these books.
The First story follows the character Katrina. Working as a waitress at a small diner, she is just wrapping up her shift when a patron stumbles in clutching a wound on his neck. When the man dies, the customers do the logical thing, call the police. To bad for them, the Police have their hands full and when the deceased man revives and starts chomping not on the food but flesh, Katrina has to make a choice, stay and die or kill and survive.
The Next Story is really interesting. A Terrible Moment follows a family hiding out in a Orange Juice Factory. The Story is told from the POV of two characters Debbie and Her Ex-Husband Alan. Debbie is a very unlikable character, and I assume she was even before the world went to hell. It was interesting seeing what she perceived was happening vs what was actually happening. I'm gonna spoil this for you but I was so glad when she died, and I expect you will be to after reading her tale.
The Last Tale is the longest. Ken and Lenore work together at a local beauty parlor. The Day starts out like any other, until Oh yeah People start eating each other. This story is by far my favorite. It takes up the majority of the book coming it at a whopping 136/175 pages. Lenore and Ken balance each other so well. I honestly think without each other to rely on both would have given up. I don't want to give to much away about this story but it is a wild roller coaster of emotion that left me crying at the end. I especially love that it tied back to the first book. The struggle to survive in the face of all odds and the way that is portrayed from book to the movie screen in my mind is what makes Rhiannon Frater such a great storyteller. Overall I loved this book. I will be giving it 5 Stars!

Story #1
Katrina is a kickass chick and you would have never known she had it in her. Her background is pretty grime and sad. You feel for her right away. Then everything changes while she is finishing her shift at a café. A man comes in injured and dies. But he comes back biting. Katrina is shocked by the turn events...for like 3 seconds. Then so goes all Rambo and kills that mofo. And then she kills more zombies, but with a sense of detachment. I am pretty sure she was in shock when she does all this, but whatever it was, it helped her survive. With her on a mission, nothing can stand in her way.
Story #2
This story gave me the chills. A husband, a soon to be ex-wife, their twin boys and baby girl, a secretary, and a manager are all trapped in an orange juice factory. They might make it out of this zombie invasion if it wasn't for the psycho wife. She is convinced her husband is cheating on her with the secretary. The wife was simply horrible, as both a mother and a wife. She makes up stories in her head and does some crazy crap because of her delusions. I felt so bad the rest of them. None of them deserved the kind of hate she spewed and she only made a bad situation worse. I was shocked by the lengths she went to get "revenge." This is a shocking story that will leave you with your mouth hanging open.

This was the longer story of the three. For some reason I could never quite get into the characters of Ken and Lenore. Their story started out great. It was exciting and scary, and the ending made me almost crap my pants, but the middle was pretty boring. Ken just got on my damn nerves the whole time, and Lenore was pretty blah the whole way through.
Verdict
If it wasn't for Ken and Lenore's story, I would have given this book 4.5 stars. But the other two stories made this worth the read.

You guys already know I am a die hard (no pun intended) fan of Rhiannon Frater's As the World Dies series. I was thrilled when I came across this collection of Untold Tales . It features short stories from several of my favorite characters. I was dying to read it and had to wait 3 months after its original release to get it on Nook.
Writing for Fans
As a fan of this series, this collection of short stories could not fail to delight me. One story is about Katerina--a bad ass sniper--and her first day of the zombie apocalypse. Another story is about my two most absolute favorite characters, best friends and hair stylists Ken and Lenore. I just loved their personalities, their friendship, and their love for one another. Reading their story was like getting a donut for breakfast--all sugary happy sweetness.
As I was reading, it occurred to me that this book is truly for fans of As The World Dies. It's sort of like getting the bonus features or uncut version of your favorite movie. It's impossible not to love. I like the idea of short story "spin-offs" from beloved books. Who wouldn't buy a short story written from Gale's POV in The Hunger Games? It's got me pondering a few short story ideas of my own.

This book has surpassed my expectations! Well, this just confirms it, I'm now a huge fan of Ms Frater! Her ability to balance and develop a realistic multi-pov plot and make such interesting, realistic and unforgeable characters is amazing. I loved the combination of horror, snark and dark humour with the heart stopping action and the sense of fear and doom snapping at the heels of the desperate survivors. In the As the World Dies series and in the untold tales, the few survivors world is turned upside-down and inside out and you feel every emotion of the characters as The frightening and relentless zombies close in. But zombies are not the worst monster they have to fear as the world dies. In this new world, only the lucky, the intelligent, the creative and the psychopaths survive.

These three short stories are relevant to how people at the Fort came to be there. In the first story Katarina is trying to avoid a customer in the cafe who always makes suggestive comments to her when a dying man staggers into the building and seconds later becomes a zombie, forcing her to defend herself or die. In the second, we meeet Julie, her employer Alan and fellow worker Rob, along with Alan's children and bitter soon to be ex-wife Debbie stuck inside an orange juice factory when the zombies attack. Their story continues in Deadly Night. The third story features two of my favourites Lenore, an out of shape employee of Ken at the beauty salon, who have to try and round up friends and family and get out of a town teeming with zombies. I love these Untold Tales which tell how characters in the main trilogy came to be there at the safety of the Fort. I hope there are many more of these novellas.

Excellent Storytelling
I enjoyed this volume. It had a little humor to it. Ken was too funny. Too bad all the characters didn't make it because I really got into them. But I guess everyone can't make it. Also like how the Author show how the characters from each volume unite at the fort. I'm hoping Carlos and his family get there somehow. He was the happy ending for me. I'm looking forward to the next volume. The author did a good job with these stories. I haven't lost interest and will be reading more by her.

Faves
Since it's been several years since I read the series, there have been some characters in these backstories that it has taken me time to recall. Ken and Lenore do not fall into that category. They were two of my favorites and the scene in Siege when the vehicle tips over and a hard decision had to be made will forever stay with me.

Great back stories
Love learning how everyone started out and ended up at the fort...at least most of them. The way the characters are written pulls the reader right into the story. I felt all the feels, love, hate frustration, fear...looking forward to the next story!

This was good.I did not read the original series,but I liked the characters,even the ghosts, that these stories were about. Kathy Bell Denton was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Great, not so short story! I really liked the characters in this book. Very relatable! Don’t know much about guns or how to survive. Love that the author had us laughing at parts.

Just like Volume 1, I absolutely adored this. Another fantastic collection of stories that add even more layers to the As the World Dies universe. Rhiannon Frater never disappoints, it's dark, emotional, and so gripping. A perfect companion to the main series.

The second book in the Untold Tales series is every bit as good as the first!
The characters in these three untold tales are all in Siege, the third book in the As The World Dies Series. These are their stories.
Revelation (Katarina’s Story)
Katarina has been in this series from the beginning. This is her story about her first day.
Her story isn’t pretty. The only reason she was even conceived was to grow up and take care of her parents. Her father’s dead now and she’s earning money waitressing at a truck stop in Ashley Oaks, Texas to take care of her sick mother. She doesn’t mind the job though. She’s earning her own money and it gets out of the house.
Dealing with that jerk, Randall, and his wandering hands becomes nothing when the bloodied man stumbles into the cafe, changing her life forever.
Even though Katarina let her mother dominate her, she never appeared weak to me. I felt she was just waiting for something, for an opportunity to come her way, and then she’d discover herself and really shine.
She did discover something. She can kill when she has to, and she’s good at it.
A Terrible Moment (The Unknown Story)
All of the stories in The Untold Tales have dark moments. This is darker than most and introduces you to peripheral characters. Not all of them make it and are their own worst enemies.
Debbie is a jealous bitter woman, beaten down by it all. She’s certain her husband is having an affair with his secretary and her jealousy consumes her.
It festers as they are all trapped in the warehouse together. She’s so focused on her thoughts of revenge, she doesn’t even care about her children.
This was an uncomfortable story. I can’t imagined being so self involved as to neglect my children, putting them in danger, and not caring. I was mortified at what she did.
Debbie would be the first one to throw out of the boat if adrift in the sea.
Friendship in the Time of Zombies (Ken and Lenore’s Story)
Lenore has no way of knowing that today will changer her life forever. She drags herself out of bed and wanders into the kitchen. Her grandmother has cooked breakfast and, as usual, she’s cooked enough to feed an army. Grabbing a quick bite, she heads off to work at Ken’s Diva Beauty Shop.
Ken may be her boss, but they are best friends and thick as thieves.
I just loved these two. Lenore is a moody one but Ken is bubbly, like champagne.
A small Texas town might not seem like the best place to flaunt his gayness, but Ken could charm the devil and I loved how he needed Lenore as much as she needed him. He was the comic relief for me and I could clearly see him cringing and panicking.
Lenore was something else. She not only had to figure out how to get them both out of there alive, she also had to keep bolstering Ken up, pushing him to man up.
I couldn’t get enough of these two and look forward to encountering them again.

Lenore has no way of knowing that today will changer her life forever. She drags herself out of bed and wanders into the kitchen. Her grandmother has cooked breakfast and, as usual, she’s cooked enough to feed an army. Grabbing a quick bite, she heads off to work at Ken’s Diva Beauty Shop.
Ken may be her boss, but they are best friends and thick as thieves.
I just loved these two. Lenore is a moody one but Ken is bubbly, like champagne.
A small Texas town might not seem like the best place to flaunt his gayness, but Ken could charm the devil and I loved how he needed Lenore as much as she needed him. He was the comic relief for me and I could clearly see him cringing and panicking.
Lenore was something else. She not only had to figure out how to get them both out of there alive, she also had to keep bolstering Ken up, pushing him to man up.
I couldn’t get enough of these two and look forward to encountering them again.

I am pretty certain that Rhiannon Fratercould write a story about every single person that makes it to The Fort and I would never get tired of reading them. These Untold Tales are the perfect addition to As The World Dies series. You can get insight into the characters mentioned in the story and not have to be bogged down with every ones backstory. You can't get any more perfect than that.
In Vol 2 you have three stories. The first one centers on Katarina. In the main series Katarina is a pretty deadly sharp shooter. Before arriving at The Fort Katarina was a waitress who just happened to be working her shift at a restaurant when the undead rise. Katarina's life pretty much sucks since she basically just works to support her ailing mother who only had her so that she could take care of her in her old age. Katarina has no life, not boyfriend, and no friends. She works and goes home. When the undead come into her restaurant she quickly learns that she can survive on her own and she begins to take control of her life.
The second story centers on a group that are stuck in an Orange Juice factory. Inside are a manager, a secretary, and a supervisor with his wife and three kids. The wife is very angry and believes that her husband is having an affair with Julie his secretary. Things are getting pretty bad when the wife decides to stick her fingers out a window and lets a zombie bite her. Before you know it all hell breaks loose and the rest of the people are fighting for their lives and try to escape.
The final story is that of Ken and Lenore. Lenore works with Ken at his beauty shop. They are just beginning work when the undead begin to cause chaos throughout the town. Ken and Lenore will need to find a way to escape and get to Lenore's grandmother and get to safety.
All three stories are awesome, You won't be disappointed!

Then everything changes while she is finishing her shift at a café. A man comes in injured and dies. But he comes back biting. Katrina is shocked by the turn events...for like 3 seconds. Then so goes all Rambo and kills that mofo. And then she kills more zombies, but with a sense of detachment. I am pretty sure she was in shock when she does all this, but whatever it was, it helped her survive. With her on a mission, nothing can stand in her way.
Story #2
This story gave me the chills. A husband, a soon to be ex-wife, their twin boys and baby girl, a secretary, and a manager are all trapped in an orange juice factory. They might make it out of this zombie invasion if it wasn't for the psycho wife. She is convinced her husband is cheating on her with the secretary. The wife was simply horrible, as both a mother and a wife. She makes up stories in her head and does some crazy crap because of her delusions. I felt so bad the rest of them. None of them deserved the kind of hate she spewed and she only made a bad situation worse. I was shocked by the lengths she went to get "revenge." This is a shocking story that will leave you with your mouth hanging open.

This was the longer story of the three. For some reason I could never quite get into the characters of Ken and Lenore. Their story started out great. It was exciting and scary, and the ending made me almost crap my pants, but the middle was pretty boring. Ken just got on my damn nerves the whole time, and Lenore was pretty blah the whole way through.
Verdict
If it wasn't for Ken and Lenore's story, I would have given this book 4.5 stars. But the other two stories made this worth the read.

Untold Tales Volume 2 is just as magnificent as the first volume. Even though I have not read any of the As the World Dies Series, I still enjoy these stories immensely. I think that the Untold Tales will actually make me enjoy reading the As the World Dies series much more, but they are also great insight for fans of the series.
Untold Tales Volume 2 is set up much like the first with two shorter stories, followed by a longer one. The first story “Revelations” is Katarina’s origin story, which is very sad. Her story is very much about freedom and gaining independence. The second shorter story is “A Terrible Moment” which is the unknowns’ story. This is a story about people in the same universe as the series, but their story does not naturally coincide with the main series. This story has to be one of the more disturbing ones, but it is so perfectly written that it is defiantly one of my favorites.
The much longer story is “Friendship in the time of Zombie.” It is the beautiful origin story of Ken and Lenore. These two best friends have to endure many things, but their friends hop never falters. The most enduring thing about the third story is the loyalty both characters show to each other even when facing the worse of situations.
I love the first volume and now I completely love the second volume. I can only imagine what is going to happen during the third volume. Go ahead and grab any volume of the Untold Tales, read it, and then tell me you do not love it. It really is a must read series for zombie fans.

SERIES REVIEW:
The 'As the World Dies: Untold Tales' trilogy is a fantastic collection of short stories that gives the background on some of the favorite characters in the series. Fans of the series will love to learn more about the characters they loved from the books and new readers will get some background on the series and the characters before diving into the books. Each volume consisted of three short stories that featured characters from each of the books in the series. They were fast paced and incredibly well written, which allowed me to read through them very quickly. Although the stories aren't very long, the reader still gets a good grasp on the characters involved as well as the plot of the books - thanks to the writer's exceptional talent. Each story is filled with lots of details and vivid imagery along with a very quick pace and lots of action. Although I'm a huge horror fan, zombies aren't usually my thing (they scare me a bit) - but I have to admit that the author's knack for drawing the reader into the world she created has me hooked. Now I have to face my zombie fear and read the series. I've read several of the author's other works and I know that although I might be scared and probably grossed out, I will not be disappointed in the least. One thing I know is that this author is truly gifted and will easily convert any reader into a fan - regardless of what book of hers they pick up.

This was my first encounter with Rhiannon Frater's writing and I'm glad I was able to be part of this tour. As The World Dies (Untold Tales Vol. 1 & 2) is wonderful collection of gory and horrifying stories that include characters from Frater's earlier trilogy As The World Dies. Although I haven't had the pleasure of reading the trilogy these volumes are awesome as stand alone stories. Each story gives a brief but in-depth view of characters along with some gore and action. I'm definitely going to go back and read Frater's trilogy! I loved that Frater gives a lot of attention to her characters and they're great characters! There's not many authors that can get you to really care about a character within a short story. The Broken Heart in volume 1 was my favorite story although it's extremely sad I just loved the emotion throughout it. I really love how Frater complicates each story and each character for example Debbie and Alan's relationship in the story A Terrible Moment in Volume 2. The shift in POV's really gives the story purpose with showing Debbie's point of view of her relationship with her husband (believing her husband has cheated on her with his secretary) and then showing Alan's point of view of the situation and his wife's sulking. Overall, I really enjoyed these stories and Frater's writing is great. I would definitely recommend picking up these two volumes, they're fantastic! If you're a lover of zombies you're missing out.

This is the second volume of Rhiannon Frater's anthology featuring stories about other survivors from the As the World Dies Trilogy, and even a few not introduced before...
Revelation: This is Katarina's story--where she was, what she was doing, and how she survived long enough to get to the Hotel construction site. She was one of the characters I wanted to know more about, so this story was great.
It was good to see how the zombie apocalypse changes her into a much stronger person than she was during the normal times, when her selfish and cruel mother ruled her life. She takes to the rifle right away, and we catch a glimpse of the tough, skilful survivor she becomes.
A Terrible Moment: Is actually a story about a bunch of people that aren't in the trilogy, and I have to say that it was my favourite one in this anthology! Great, great story about a woman who is a wee bit delusional and totally loses it, putting everyone around her in danger.
It's a great study of human nature at its most paranoid.
Frienship in the Time of Zombies: You know, for some reason, it took me ages to finish this story. Before starting it, I was sure I was going to love Lenore and Ken's tale, but sadly I didn't. :( Not sure what it was, but their adventure of survival just didn't hook me in, no matter how many times I tried to get back into it.
In the end, I wound up skimming most of it. Though I did like Tito. :)

Ok, my biggest complaint about this book...it's too short!!! As you can see, it was a quick read but mostly because I LOVE Rhiannon's zombie tales. This one gives more insight into some of the characters from her original trilogy so it should stand to reason that you have to read her trilogy. Naturally if you're a zombie fan who hasn't read it yet, I'd ask, why haven't you read it yet? Come on folks, it's rare to find a zombie novel that is as compelling and filled with strong female characters as Rhiannon's novels. Volume 2 is no exception. There are two stories that have excellent female heroines, and one story that is disturbing for a different reason. I would highly recommend this, anything that Rhiannon write to zombie fans. Even if you're not a zombie fan but want to read something with strong, kick ass women, her zombie tales would satisfy any "Xena" fix you might need.

Ken and Lenore's story was by far my favorite of the three. I really enjoyed their story. They made me laugh and cry. I just wish Tito would have made it to the fort. He was an interesting guy. I really appreciated how he protected and made sure his friends were ok before he set off on his journey to reunite with his wife and kids. I like that Lenore never let ken give up and that they fought for each other.
The story of the unknowns is awesome. The dynamics of the little group in the OJ factory were awesome. I still can't believe the ending. All I can say is that guys wife was a full on bitch.

This volume is comprised of three separate stories of survivors during the zombie apocalypse. Katarina, a waitress forced into the apocalypse when a dying man comes through the café door. Ken and Lenore, stylists at the local beauty salon who are introduced to the apocalypse via a car accident at their front door. And a family trapped in their home who realize that the zombies are not the only danger facing them. Semi-interesting without much character background. A decent listen, but not much new here. Three.point.five for the effort.

Thanks for this. I was having serious withdrawal symptoms after listening to the other three books about a bazillion times. I needed to get my zombie fix after my friend lent me a boatload of books on Kindle and Nook, not one zombie in the bunch. This was just what the nurse (i.e. myself) ordered. Loved the back stories. It's one of the things I love about writing is creating those wonderful histories for the characters.
