A beginning read for kids. Geronimo is a well to-do mouse. All his family and Christmas guests cancelled on him. He is going to be alone for Christmas. He meets a neighbor who loses her cat and while looking meets all kinds of mouses he invites to dinner.
Geronimo spreads the Christmas cheer and reminds us of the Christmas spirit. The special words are in special Christmas font.
Translated from Italian. There is a whole series of these. They are cute.

January 16, 2015Like every year, Geronimo Stilton was planning the family christmas dinner at his home. He spend days setting up, creating party games, cooking the feast and making presents. Everything was looking fab-mouse, until he got a call from his closest family members informing him that they would not be able to make it to the big dinner. Sad, yet still optimistic that it would be a great christmas, he called every one of his relatives, all of them seemed to have something planned for the day and would not be able to make it. Geronimo was Heart broken over all the effort he put into the dinner, but he was mostly glum about not being able to spend christmas with his nearest and dearest. So he goes round new mouse island trying to help out his neighbour find her lost pet. On the way, he encounters some very interesting people and makes new friends.
The books author is shown as Geronimo Stilton therefore disguising the identity of the author making the book seem like it was actually written by a mouse. The author uses a lot of personification as to make the mice seem as human as possible. He also uses the technique of adding something to with mice to the end of already existing words. For example: Fabmouse! Making the writing fun and cute for children to read.
I would highly recommended these books to children around the age of seven, although i still quite enjoy reading this book at thirteen years of age. They are short and simple yet take you to a whole new world.

When you flip through these books they are so colorful. I have repeatedly checked these out for my daughter to read, and she has never gotten into them. I always wondered why... until I read this.
The basic summary of the story is that this very famous newspapaer editor, Geronimo Stilton is preparing for Christmas Eve. As he is out walking he is disgusted by the commercialism of Christmas . he points out that Christmas is about family. As he begins to verify his Christmas Eve plans with his family, he realizes they are all busy with other plans. feeling rejected, he again starts to walk the streets. He comes across others that are lonely on Christmas and invites them to his house only to come home to find a surprise waiting... yeah well, I don't want to spoil it.
The different fonts and pictures are cute, and I love the idea of a island of mice, but the dialogue is so lame. Truly I think my daughter writes stories like this. I think the story line and words are for a younger reader than my kids. Maybe second grade? But even then I couldn't get my daughter to read them.
In conclusion, they have a great presentation with little substance.

This is a book only kids should rate, so don't pay any attention to my rating or to this review. The books must be good because kids in first and second grade are always delighted when they spot any of the titles from this series on the shelves. They like the fact that these are chapter books and that crazy fonts appear on each page. To me, the layout is overwhelming, too much going on that distracts from the story. Do kids with ADHD prefer formats that appear to have ADHD?
Even though I gave this book only 2-stars, it does have a positive message.

Christmas is officially a hundred days away and I am certainly looking forward to autumn and winter since I am sick of summer. In this one Geronimo fears that he'd end up alone on Christmas day since his family members and friends all have plans. From a literary critic's point of view, this just came across as Geronimo being truly horrible with inviting people for an event he'd host. Even stupider was the fact that he had everything prepared already when he clearly didn't send out any invitations. He just took it for a fact that everyone would show up on the day. Biblical levels of delusion right there. The moment reality hits, he leaves his home trying to look for his neighbour's bird and starts assembling guests to join him for a Christmas meal as though Nick Fury seeking out the avengers. The message this book tries to convey is a lovely one whereby love is what brings everyone together and not Christmas necessarily. Same concept as how it's the thought that counts rather than the gifts themselves. As it turned out, Stilton's family members, friends, and colleagues surprised him towards the end of the book by showing up to his feast. Quite a sweet concept overall but does not make much sense logistically. One more thing that made little sense was how at one point, Stilton had just fallen head first into a trash can and was smelling of garbage and a few pages later he was squeaky clean once more. This one also tried to convey how reputation does not come between treating people well and respectfully. Perhaps the first time I saw Stilton standing up for himself which was fascinating.

The Geronimo Stilton books are always adorable. Full of color with a quick, cute tale about spending Christmas together with family and friends, A Christmas Tale was no different. I read this aloud to my kids in one sitting - they wouldn’t let me stop until the end.

This one was little Miss's choice. Geronimo Stillton is the Bee's Knees in her eyes; it was good to find and finish a christmas one before the craziness begins. this was pretty much the standard formula, but Miss-almost-5 was riveted through out. again. There may be some of these under the christmas tree.

It was like a usual Geronimo Stilton book. The ONLY reason why I read this is bcoz I wanted a book to finish at school in like a hour. That goal was successful. But like the story was very obvious and was VERY VERY kiddish.

The first book in the special editions of Geronimo Stilton, this book centers around finding new friends and bringing joy to others at the holiday season. We all have friends and family that we share the holiday season with, but some do not and it is nice to meet these people and bring them into you close circle of friends to be able to share the holidays with them.
This was a very touching story about finding new friends in unlikely places at the holiday season and showing that it is not about what you buy but what you give people otherwise. Sometimes a simple hello is all the gift that someone needs to make their holiday season that much better, not the biggest or bestest new item. A very good lesson for people to learn at any age!

The book A Christmas tale is so joyful. The writing was beautiful. I could relate this book to the other Geronimo Stilton series. The strength of the is that a character was helping other people. There was no weakness. I would recommend this book to a classmate because they would like a christmas telling. If their were more series about this book I would read them all.

Oh no! All of Geronimo's relatives are going away for christmas! Is it true that Geronimo will have to spend christmas with no one except his fish Hanniball? Also in the back there is a board game for you to play that is a lot like the story, I tried it, its a really fun game!

A very sweet book with a good message for children. This is the first Geronimo Stilton book I have read with my son and it was nice because we could take turns reading it - I read the regular print and my son read the words that were highlighted in various colours.

I loved the formatting of this book! Not only were there pictures and illustrations throughout the story, the author incorporated textual arts as well. On silly words or important concepts, the author changed the word's color and text size to make it stand out. I loved reading this one!
