The team-spirit sign by the side of the highway seems a good omen to loner Morgan Walsh, as he drives to what could be the most important visit of his life — a chance to join the North American Pack. Then he wakes naked in the woods, surrounded by wolf tracks and a ring of suspicious cops. The situation only gets worse when he’s bailed out by Alpha-elect Elena Michaels and Clayton Danvers, her terrifying enforcer and mate.

Disappointed that such a promising young werewolf risked exposing them, Elena isn’t expecting anything from the pesky retrieval job except some much-needed alone time with Clay. Instead, she finds a different kind of evil stalking the streets and forests of Westwood, New York. Trapped in town by a snowstorm and sabotage, Elena, Clay and Morgan must find the mysterious threat before it sets its sights on them.

Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.

Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.

Hmmm . . . not my favorite.

Morgan, the werewolf Clay and Elena discovered living among a real wolf pack in Alaska, got sidelined in a podunk town on his way to check out Stonehaven.

They make the drive to pick him up, only to get dragged into investigating what appears to be a couple of murders by ritual sacrifice.

Not very believable, and kind of ridiculous. That is all.

Forbidden – Oh the mystery, I enjoyed this short Morgan is a wolf we meet before and I was so intrigued by him so this was an interesting bonus story. The town Elena and Clay go to, to meet up with Morgan is like something you would read in a book spooky and a little off, lmao that is the best way to describe it.

Elena gets a call that Morgan, a werewolf who might be a potential new pack member, is in jail in a nearby town. Clay and Elena go to get him and are caught in the middle of a dangerous case. Bodies are being found with odd marks on them and Elena wants to stay and make sure that there’s nothing “mutt” related about the killings. Add to that a bad snowstorm, their tires being slashed and a small town that has a very strange vibe to it, Elena, Clay and Morgan stick around and try to quickly piece all the random clues together.

I jump at the chance to read anything with Clay and Elena in it. If Kelley Armstrong writes about them going grocery shopping, I’d be all over it. What I’m enjoying most about Elena now is seeing her as a mom and also seeing her get more and more comfortable in the role as alpha. Her relationship with Clay is changing because of that and they’re learning what they’re each ok with as far as Clay being his alpha’s protector and Clay being her mate. They’re balancing it well and it shows in this short story how they’re working together better than ever.

“So we have time to kill?”

“Yes,” I said, stepping into our room. “Yes, we do.”

“You want to go grab something at the diner? Food’s good.”

“Why don’t you do that. We’re going to take a nap.”

“He’s not five, darling.” Clay turned to Morgan. “You need to get lost so we can have sex.”

Morgan backed away fast, muttering that he’d return at dusk.

“Subtle,” I said to Clay as Morgan hurried off.

“Subtle wasn’t working.”

Morgan is an interesting character and I’d love to know more about this guy. He’s been more wolf than human over the past few years and now he’s ready to be a part of a pack. He’s starting to crave that pack stability and sense of family and for Elena, she longs to recruit strong new members so the pack can grow. Morgan’s still on the fence about his decisions, but it ends on a hopeful note for him and Elena’s group and I hope to hear more from Morgan in the future.

The small town mystery was an interesting main storyline for Elena and Clay to be in the middle of, but I can’t say it completely grabbed my attention. However, I’m just happy following along on another Clay and Elena adventure and seeing them with their kids, and we get a little bit of both in this novella. As the pack grows, I hope that Armstrong continues to give us small looks into what the characters are up to. While I will always hold out hope that Armstrong will give us another full length series book someday, I always love any reason to go back to the Otherworld.

Some werewolf stories go a bit overboard on the submission and the hierarchy of a pack. Often, it ends up bordering on sexual dominance to be titillating. I admit, I originally had issues with this series for that very reason. However, I have to eat crow. The pack mentality, at least in this instalment, seems to be more about respect for those who have earned their role, protection for fellow pack/family members, and as a way to deal with outside forces. This perspective allows the author to focus on what is family, and what do those people mean to us. I sincerely enjoyed this take and mean to read many more of the series.

I am a big fan of Elena and Clay in the Otherworld universe, and I’m always eager to dive into another story that provides me with more information about their world. With Forbidden, Kelley Armstrong also gives the readers an insight into a character introduced in the tenth book in the series.

I will be completely honest and say that this isn’t quite a full four-star rating. It was, however, a story I enjoyed enough to round up. It kept me hooked throughout, eager to see how the story would develop, and I had a lot of fun watching the pieces unfold. While I would have liked for the story to have been a little more complex, it was enjoyable for a quick read. If nothing else, it was a great way to return to the characters and their lives.

All in all, this makes for great easy reading for fans of the Otherworld pack.

I really enjoyed this novella, so much that I devoured it in a matter of a few hours. It was a reminder of how I like the self-contained stories in this world the most. While the series was enjoyable, toward the end there was a lot to keep track of. By contrast, this novella contained everything I needed to know for the plot and resolution, and it was just a fun romp with characters who are my old friends.

Reading Forbidden was like going back home and meeting old friends. It brought back a lot of good memories and I loved it!!!

Despite the fact that this book was a novella, not a full-sized novel, its story, plot and pace were all done just right - it had mystery, it had fun, it had a teeny bit of romance, and it gave readers a chance to see more about the interactions and dynamics in Elena and Clay's relationship.

And talking about Elena and Clay, this book would be a great treat for long-time KA fans for the Otherworld series. Quite frankly, I missed them a lot, especially since the last three books of the series featured Savannah as the narrator. For some readers, it was quite a disappointment because this spectacular series ended without having Elena as the central character!?!

Anyway, I've digressed...

The point I was making was that it was always fun to see Elena and Clay partnering up and going on their own little "mission". The added bonus here was that the werewolf from Alaska (whom we met in an earlier novel in the series - Frostbitten, I think), Morgan, was given some airtime and it ended with him visiting the Pack. It was nice to see potential recruits joining the Pack.

Finally, I'd end by saying that I wished KA would continue on with the Otherworld series. I would love to see Kate and Logan grown up and having a book of their own at some point in future!!

Kelley Armstrong is an expert at the old adage to always leave your audience wanting more. I want MORE! Just when the pack is getting new members and Elena is on the cusp of becoming Alpha, the series ends. So frustrating!

I know the series is supposed to be about Savannah but, please, it's Elena all the way. For me, Bitten and Frostbitten are my favorite books and her transformation throughout the series has been way more interesting and satisfying than Savannah. Don't get me wrong, I like Savannah, but she's at the place now that we saw Elena in Bitten. Even though Savannah has been through a lot, she still has more personal growing to do. With Elena we've seen her inner struggles with her Change and childhood experiences; her emotional growth in relationships; her battle with gender roles, tradition, and the pack's expectations; and motherhood. She is so complex and that's what I like most about her.

All that to say, this is another Elena and Clay installment that doesn't disappoint.

For all of us long time Kelley Armstrong fans we remember first meeting Morgan Walsh in Frostbitten. The book ended with Walsh stating that after a year with his own pack he would head down to Syracuse "for a few beers" with the North American pack.

After being a wolf for so long Walsh underestimates the amount of times he need to shift back into wolf form to keep the changing under control. He shifts back into wolf form in a public area and after hitting his head in a boulder and passing out, he is given a rude awakening by a police officer but also by wolf tracks found near his body. Elena and Clay come to the rescue and after a tense encounter with the town sheriff, Walsh is let go with a warning. When trying to leave the town, the trio encounter numerous amount of coincidental occurrences and they decide to stay and investigate.

This novella managed to keep my werewolf withdrawl's to a minimum and it should help you with yours. Thank you to Kelley Armstrong for writing another great novela.

I am a huge Women of The Otherworld fan. So I am always thrilled to get to revisit my favorite characters, especially now that the series has ended.

In Forbidden we get a lot of Clay and Elena. The e-novella (although it's 200+ pages) is narrated by Elena (first person). But there are also bits narrated 3rd person by others (mostly Morgan Walsh who we met in Frostbitten).

Morgan has arrived from Alaska and is heading to see Jeremy/Elena/Clay. But he is forced to stay in a little town not that far away from where they lives.

Elena and Clay head down to help him and they end up trying to solve a case.

I enjoyed this story a lot. My only complaint would be that this is a #10.6, and Thirteen which was released BEFORE this is a #13. I would love to read stories that take place AFTER #13.

*Also just a quick note - there is not a lot of wolf stuff (where they turn into wolves) in this novella.

In this novella, a werewolf from Alaska, who has lived in isolation from community (except for 2 years spent living as a wolf with a wolf pack), heads towards American pack territory to spend some time with Elena, Jeremy and Clay to see if he wants to join their pack. On the way there, he winds up unconscious in the woods surrounded by paw prints. The local sheriff calls the number she finds on his phone- Elena- so she and Clay head to the small town of Westwood to pick him up. It's a quick, fun read.

The story on this was a bit thin and unbelievable, especially the end. And the fast Elena and Clay let so much get in their way. There were loose ends with characters that were never explained and I think I'm just getting a little tired of the characters. Not bad, I'm glad I had a chance to read it but probably won't pick up another Elena story that doesn't feature more of the other characters.

A well Told story in genuine format.

This novel containers all the things needed for a well told story. It catches you in the very beginning, develops a good plot, has interesting twists and turns and has a good and bright ending. Anyone who enjoys werewolf novels, or who is familiar with Kelley Armstrong's works will definitely enjoy this read. It is well worth the enjoyment t to read this work.

Entertaining story featuring Elena and Clay. I enjoyed this and the mystery. It was something a bit unexpected! I know this series is over now with Thirteen, but I wonder if KA will continue to write the occasional story with our favorite characters......

The solid small-town mystery plot would probably work even for those who haven't read the rest of the Otherworld series. Lately I've hit a run of draggy novels, so it was a pleasure to spend time with something that had such clear, smooth prose.

The artwork wasn't to my taste, and I especially didn't like that images appeared before the scenes they were portraying.

REREAD 2020

I like this story. It gives us a new character, but at the same time stay true to the original cast. Not to mention that the story is interesting, if a bit small-town-cliche, but that's why it works.

Keeping the original rating.

So good! I only give it four stars cause it is too darn short and because it is only supposed to be a novella, things are glossed over a little.
I love Elena and Clay. They end up in a little town with disappearing drifters. Killer werewolf on the loose? You gotta read it to find out.

I decided to take a little trip back to The Women of the Otherworld series with Kelley Armstrong's novella, Forbidden! I picked this up at HPB one day when I saw it just sitting there and I decided, why not? The novellas are always fun because you can basically read them without having to read the original series. Since I did read the series already, I was even more game, but it also helped that it wasn't necessary since I read Frostbitten when it came out in 2010 and this book takes place right after that sometime! So yeah, it's been a while! Lol!

In this one we have Elena and Clay who are called to a small town just outside their own home when a potential werewolf recruit gets himself into a bind. This is the part that I couldn't really remember, though I vaguely recall Morgan's character, just not his entire role in things. Morgan was considering joining the Pack, but gets waylaid in the small town and winds up in jail.

After being snowbound with twin five-year-olds, Clay and Elena jump at the chance to get out of the house for a bit. Though Westwood was a small town where everyone knows everyone, there is definitely something weird happening in this town. Elena can shake the feeling of being watched constantly and when they try to leave town the next day, they find that the tires of their car have been slashed.

While wandering around the town, they uncover a decomposing body and it basically sets the course for them in the mystery solving area as the strange happenings don't stop there. There's the sheriff who seems a bit dodgy and secretive, a few deputies who may or may not have secrets of their own, and of course whoever the mystery vandal in town is.

This story read really fast for being just over 200 pages! The time just flew by and I found myself really missing the Otherworld. I know I have a good amount of novella compilations in my TBR pile that I really ought to drag out, but who has the time!? Lol. I will have to make time for that return soon though.

I think that Clay and Elena will always be my favorite Otherworld couple. They were the first and there's just that special bond a reader develops with those first book characters. That holds true for me with this series! I also enjoyed that there was just the tiniest bit of romance in this one! Clay and Elena definitely deserve some alone time after the chaos of their twins! I'm also really interested in checking out their serial story, but I am terrible with reading serial episodes. I'm an all or nothing kind of reader! Lol.

Forbidden was a fun trip down Otherworld memory lane! It was great to return to one of the first adult series I ever read and what basically got me hooked into the urban fantasy genre! This is a read no Otherworld reader should be without!

Three reasons to read Forbidden:

1) Clay and Elena's dynamic is nice. They're shifting into new roles, so it's a learning experience, but they're dealing with it very well. They're a fun blend of maturity and immaturity.

2) Morgan is a unique character with a unique experience, and it shows in his POV. His interactions with Clay and Elena are amazing because we're used to seeing things from within the Pack. This outside perspective is very different.

3) The plot is dark, twisty, and fits perfectly with the setting. It stretches the limits of believability, but it's written in such a way that even an improbable premise works.

Two drawbacks to Forbidden:

1) The artwork appeared before the sections of story it referenced, creating spoilers.

2) This story shows just how interesting Morgan is as a character, but it's the most we ever see of him. The other appearances he makes in the series are brief and a little lacking in personality. It's a shame because this story really got my hopes up.

Elena and Clayton have to rescue a young werewolf was coming to visit and ran into trouble with the police in a nearby town. But the rescue itself runs into trouble when they try to leave town throwing them in the middle of a

This a very fast paced story filled with surprises, mix-ups and dark motives. But lots of fun too. Though I think Elena and Clayton should have kept the mind more on the problem than on having fun in the bedroom.

The twins, Kate and Logan are cute but a handful and they definitely need more discipline or their going to get in trouble when they grow up.

Fave scenes: duct tape and rope, Mac’s gift and talking to the car repair secretary.

A tight little mystery solved with the help of Elena Michaels & Clayton Danvers of the East wolfpack after they respond to a call from the local sheriff from a number found in the pocked of a man found naked in the snow covered forest. He is Morgan Walsh on his way from Alaska to Stonehaven. The little town is very proud of their football team the Werewolves.

I love anything from Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series, including the novellas and I didn't realize until I was about a 1/3 of the way in on this one, that I've read this one. It was part of a compilation of other novellas, so I guess I technically re-read this.

I'm not giving a full review, but I recommend reading anything in this series!
