I actually liked this way more upon my re-read than I did when I first read it, but I’ve decided not to edit my original ratings.

This was definitely my least favorite one in the series. It wasn't awful, but it was definitely missing some of the spark that the other ones had.
I loved seeing Doc again but Teeko stopping by just seemed unnecessary, like the author realized she hadn't made an appearance in three or so books and threw her on the scene. I also like Heath a lot, but this book had some weird out-of-character moments for him. Gilley was toned down in this book, though, thank goodness!
The mystery on this one was a bit dull, and this notion that "this is the worst thing we've ever fought!" will eventually hit a wall. How many of these ferocious demons are left before they get one that is literally impossible to destroy? I fear the author's decision to make the ghost in each book bigger and badder will actually cause the series to die quicker. As it is, it's already getting a bit unrealistic that M.J. manages to save the day each time even though the ghost is "unstoppable". I'm also getting annoyed that she solves the mysteries but doesn't fill us, the reader, in. All of a sudden she will just blurt out the solution based on clues we never knew and we're left wondering where the hell it came from.
I know it seems like I just ripped this book apart but the truth is, even this mediocre installment was good. I am honestly enjoying this series a lot, but the minor annoyances I've had throughout were all together in this one and hard to ignore.
I'm so glad the next book is due out next month, since I just sped through this whole series and don't want to wait long for another M.J. adventure!

My best friend has an author (probably more than one; but one I know of for sure), that she calls her comfort read. I have a few authors I would call my comfort reads – authors you can count on to deliver a good, well-written and enjoyable story. You may know how the story will progress (maybe not always); but you also know you will enjoy the story. Rarely are you disappointed.
Victoria Laurie is one of my comfort reads. I stumbled upon her last year, and quickly had to devour all the books in print I could get my hands on. This was the series I stumbled upon first, so I was excited to get this latest edition in the series.
First let me say I did enjoy and liked this book very much. However, I was surprised to find myself feeling somewhat disappointed with the story progression in the first third or so of the book. M.J. Holliday, her SO, Heath and her BF, Gilly Gillespie are facing one of their toughest challenges – a demon that is targeting and trying to destroy the Whitefeather tribe, Heath’s family. Obviously, Heath is distracted and dealing with grief, as early on, his favorite aunt and uncle have already been killed by the demon threat. What I found somewhat frustrating and annoying is that M.J. and Gilly seem to be slow in responding to the threat and starting an investigation into the history of the clan and the demon that may be responsible for the current havoc. They seem curiously passive, initially. Admittedly, they are hampered by tribal culture, traditions and customs. Still, M.J. is usually a more proactive heroine.
M.J. does become more proactive and Gilly also is more heroic than he normally seems to be. Gilly whines, complains and cowers, but ultimately you can count on him to back up M.J. in the end. In this story, there seems to be less cowering and more immediate stepping up and bravery. The story does pick up quickly and results with an exciting climax. Overall, this was not a disappointment and a very good read.

The last time we saw the Ghost Hunters crew, they were in Ireland removing a phantom from a castle. There is a possible basis for a show in Dunkird, but they have to put aside these plans and head to New Mexico to deal with the death of Heath's Uncle Milton.
M.J.'s spirit guide Sam Whitefeather (who happens to be Heath's grandfather) appears in a dream to warn her of this just before Heath is notified by his cousin. Sam informs M.J. that Milton has been unable to cross over because of the traumatic nature of his death, which was caused by a demon whose mission is to destroy the Whitefeather clan. M.J.'s job is to locate the person possessed by the demon and kill him or her.
Although M.J. is not thrilled about the idea of killing someone, she's prepared to do it if it's the only way to dispose of the demon. While Gopher and the rest of the Ghost Hunter crew return to L.A. to deal with paperwork, M.J., Heath and Gilley fly to Santa Fe to take care of the evil spirit.
M.J. and her crew fight ghost and demons the same way one would fight any battle, by being mentally prepared and having the proper tools and weapons (which include custom magnetized spikes and "grenades"). Laurie's matter-of-fact narration of these astonishing events is what keeps this series from edging into the horror novel category.

As per usual, traveling with MJ is our favorite best friend, Gilley who is the resident scaredy cat. This is a big problem so even MJ's best gal friend, Teeko arrives with MJ's bird, Doc!
This book had humor, excellent storytelling of Native American style, adventure, and a respect throughout of Tribal belief systems and customs. To my delight it featured the Zuni and they are a gracious and talented people that I personally enjoyed meeting and studying their pots and jewelry.
I adored this book and it was a true page-tuner for me.

Really don't like where the characters have gone since the series started. Gilly started off neurotic but kind of sweet and cute but has just turned into an annoying character and a shadow of what he started off as in the first book. The author just seems to enjoy adding a new neurosis for each book. If he was honestly as terrified of everything in the books I would expect him to be a live at home agoraphobic.
Also MJ's character has become kind of a cold hearted twit as the series goes, I miss the character she started off as in the first book. No one is very likable as the series goes on and the longer it does the more I want the ghosts to win. I also really dislike her new boyfriend in the series, he just comes across as a jerk and I really don't see what she or I should see in him. His character makes me want to throw the book at the wall.

This book was utterly amazing!! I loved it from start to finish. The characters were solid. They were explained early on. I loved the relationship between MJ and Gilly! Their bond was great. As a paranormal investigator myself it was very intriguing. That and the Native American folk lore involved, and the plot was superb. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole book! Can't wait to read more of her's.

FABULOUS book by author Victoria Laurie. This, the sixth in her Ghost Hunter series, is another example of Ms. Laurie's flexibility. Each new book has taken the characters in a new direction and into uncharted territory, keeping the stories fresh and exciting. In "Ghoul Interrupted" MJ Holliday, her fellow medium and boyfriend Heath Whitefeather and her best friend Gilley Gillespie are forced to abandon filming of their new TV show "Ghoul Getters" in order to go to Heath's home in New Mexico for a family funeral. Suspicious circumstances seem to surround the death and MJ and the gang begin an investigation, spurred on by MJ's spirit guide, Sam Whitefeather. It appears an ancient demon has arisen with murder on its mind and it's up to MJ, Heath and Gilley to put the evil thing to rest before anyone else gets hurt.
I really enjoyed the southwestern scenery of this book, along with all of the Native American legends. It was a pleasant diversion from past books that were set in Europe. Because the reunion of Heath's family takes place under such emotionally charged circumstances, there's more intimacy between the characters, more sharing of their pasts and their emotional connections to each other. There are lots of sweet scenes between MJ and Gilley, revealing more about their friendship. As always, the book was also hi-larious! Gilley takes a prominent role in the funniest scenes and creates a catch phrase that I've already found myself using (hint: it involves his name). Last, but definitely not least, this is absolutely the scariest Ghost Hunter book so far!! It was so satisfying to be unnerved by the villainous spirit and to see MJ and her crew courageously rise to the challenge of taking it down. Finally, Victoria Laurie has broken away from the Scooby-Do feel of the previous books in the Ghost Hunters Mystery series. I was beginning to get a little worried on the future of these books with the same path being taken book after book. Gilley will always be the neurotic best friend of M.J. and he will always be able to eat his way through the left side of the menu, but I think this little buttercup is starting to man-up.
After a frantic call M.J., Heath and Gilley hightail it to New Mexico to investigate the death of Heath’s uncle on the Zanto Pueblo. The Whitefeather’s are a difficult bunch, but with the spirit of Sam, Heath’s deceased grandfather to guide them, the trio takes on an ancient evil life-force that has unleashed it hatred on the descendants of the original Whitefeather. It is now up to M.J. and her team to put this malevolent Jeannie back into its bottle and prevent any more deaths.
I am not sure if there is any factual history to the Native American tale that was told in these pages, but I found the storyline fascinating. Ms Laurie drew me right into the legend of great white hawk and the great black hawk and that set the overall feel for the book.
Is the book one hundred percent plausible? Of course not, but it is not meant to be. This is a cozy mystery with a bit of an edge and a can-can dancing parrot. With this story, you will be entertained and drawn in a bit deeper than the previous books. This time I can say that I look forward to the next book in the series.

I am half way through with the book at this point and I am seriously considering just putting it down. It is not holding my attention and the author keeps repeating herself and then contradicting herself. Sometimes it feels like Laurie has forgotten what she wrote 20 pages earlier. The book starts with M.J. having a conversation with her spirit guide, Heath's grandfather, Sam about the demon that is hunting and killing his family. He tells M. J. that the only way to get rid of the demon is to kill the person controlling it. After family members start dying, M. J. questions if the cause of death was natural-really? Then she questions if the demon killed the person who raised it. She also tells everyone that she has no idea how to get rid of the demon. What really gets me is around page 150 she has another conversation with Sam where she asks him if he has heard about the demon. Sam then tells her that she has to research how to get rid of it. Where is Laurie's editor? Not only are their errors in plot, but that are also a ton of grammatical and typographical errors. Argh, but i don't want to waste my money, so i will be finishing it. However, I will not be picking up the next in the series unless the second half of this book is absolutely amazing.

He's just a character, so I don't feel bad for saying this: Gilley needs to die. Or at least quit whining so much. He's the worst thing about this series (ignoring M.J's occasional too stupid to live moments), and if he was either gone or toned down some, I would like the series.
He's not even worth it half the time. Yes, in this book, he was somewhat helpful, hacking and searching, but it's the most helpful he's been the entire series. Either he's eating and going off when somebody points out to him he's gained weight, he's whining and moaning about the ghosts, or he's acting like a five year old when anybody does anything he remotely disagrees with.
I couldn't have somebody like him in my life, not for long, and I really, really hope the next book does what it hinted at, and puts him in mortal peril. Heath is okay, M.J. could be worse (she could also be way better), the ghosts could be less "omg worse danger ever", and the story better overall, but Gilley seriously ruins the whole series.

Hmm...this is just slightly under a full four stars for me, only because the first half of the book wasn’t as good as previous books in the series. The second half made up for that though.
Gilly annoyed me so much in the previous book and he started out just as bad in this one, but by the end of it he started to get better. He was so neurotic...okay he’s always kind of neurotic, but it seemed worse in the last book and in the beginning of this one. I think he needs a boyfriend 😉
The Teeko part was okay. I get that there needed to be a place and time for the one attack but maybe it could have been done a tad better. It seemed out of place to me.

Ghoul Interrupted takes up where Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls left off with the three main characters, M.J., Gilley, and Heath going to New Mexico so Heath can attend his uncle's funeral. An ancient demon has been released and is killing members of the Whitefeather family. They have to find a way to vanquish the demon. Fast paced making it a quick read, it was a entertaining read.

Every October, for Halloween, I watch spooky movies and read books about ghost hunters. This series, Victoria Laurie’s Ghost Hunter Mysterys, turned out to be a needed break from some evil characters that haunted the books of James Lee Burke and John Connolly that I had read recently. Laurie probably meant the book to be more serious but it kept reminding me of the Ghostbuster movies- she even used the word ‘ectoplasm’, which is what slimed Dan Aykroyd in those movies. The book is a quick read and has funny characters, especially Gilley, so I will continue my Halloween tradition and read more from the series.

Another fun adventure with M.J and the gang. This time M.J, Heath and Gilley have gone home to Heath’s family where there has been a death, and a mystery ensues. Was a nice change without the TV crew and still a good read.

Increasing my rating on re-read. I really enjoyed this one this time around. I didn't remember a lot of what happened in this installment from my previous read through, so it almost felt like a new adventure with friends.

One of the better reads in this fun series. I enjoyed "learning" more about Heath's history and background. Gilly was still annoying at times but he seems to be growing up.

After the somewhat unfortunate Ghouls Ghouls Ghouls which is apparently a New York Times Bestseller, (hmm, not that the series doesn't deserve to be on the list) I was hoping this next book would be able to get this series back on its feet, and not only did it do just that, Ghoul Interrupted blew it away. I loved just about everything in this book from the characters, main and supporting, to the plot, the setting, and the demon, of course. I really like that we got to know more about Heath, as well. Despite being a main character since the fourth book, we haven't been given much background information, so that was a nice touch. Again, the only thing that bothered me about this book, and the series as a whole, is how time passes. It seems odd that Heath and M.J. have known each other for a year and a half, since as far as I know the TV show Ghoul Getters was created at the end Ghouls Just Haunt To Have Fun and they fly to Scotland at the beginning of Ghouls Gone Wild I don't know if a year or something passed in-between there or what, because at the end of the fourth one, Steven Sable returns to break up with M.J., then in Ghouls Ghouls Ghouls she states that the two of them had broken up recently. At the beginning of this book they jet off to New Mexico, even though they are about to leave Ireland for wherever their next shoot is. I figure their cases only last a month or less soooo... definitely a year and a half.

This case hits too close to home when a violent demon tries to take out Heath's entire bloodline - one member at a time. M.J. and Gilley get in lots of trouble out on the reservation while Heath does his best to keep his family from the demon.
The suspense/terror quotient was rather high in this one with the crazy, scary dragon/demon thing. Yikes. M.J., Gilley and Heath were definitely out-classed in this one.
Thoroughly enjoyable and I liked finally learning some of Heath's background.

I loved that in this book we get to know a lot more about Heath. He has been my favorite character since he entered the series in book three. I was also happy to see M.J. and Gilley supporting him like he was family. I know Heath would do the same for them. He is so sweet and protective of M.J. They make the perfect couple but I was glad Steven was mentioned. It's nice to know for sure how M.J. feels about both of them. I also enjoyed a little break from the filming of their ghost hunter TV show.
This mystery involved a demon killing off the members of Heath's family. They believe someone broke the urn that held the demon. M.J., Heath, and Gilley then decide to investigate Heath's family and the reservation to find out who broke the urn. The demon is now controlling that person and the demon wants revenge on every member of the Whitefeather family. This series always has some good humor and romance. I also kept trying to figure out the "who done it" and could never figure out who broke the urn. I thought I knew but then there was twist and it was someone else.
"Fine, okay? I'll come! Just stop with all this pressure!"
"Thanks, Gil."
"Whatever," he grumbled. "If we get caught, I'm going to say you kidnapped me."
"Playing?" he repeated drowsily, but a smile tugged at his lips.

Heath chuckled and the sound was low and throaty. "Well," he said, moving his own hand to rest on the top of my head. "You're in luck, pretty lady, because you have to be this height to ride my merry-go-round."
"Here's my ticket," I said, kissing him.
This mystery involved a demon killing off the members of Heath's family. They believe someone broke the urn that held the demon. M.J., Heath, and Gilley then decide to investigate Heath's family and the reservation to find out who broke the urn. The demon is now controlling that person and the demon wants revenge on every member of the Whitefeather family. This series always has some good humor and romance. I also kept trying to figure out the "who done it" and could never figure out who broke the urn. I thought I knew but then there was twist and it was someone else.
"Fine, okay? I'll come! Just stop with all this pressure!"
"Thanks, Gil."
"Whatever," he grumbled. "If we get caught, I'm going to say you kidnapped me."
"Playing?" he repeated drowsily, but a smile tugged at his lips.

I ripped through this in a day and a half ~ getting very little sleep I might add - ;)and for good reason! I suppose I could have waited until the full moon was over before I started reading but...where's the fun in that? Besides, we all enjoy a good shiver now and again, (except maybe poor Gilly) right? *whispering ~ Gilly Gilleshpie* I love the fact that M.J. and Heath are together and their bond seems to be growing. It was wonderful to get a taste of Native American culture, something that I want to learn more about, with all their legends and myths ~ I find it so fascinating! My only gripe (and I wouldn't even call it a gripe, really...) is when, oh when will Gilly find that special someone? Of course, knowing Gilly *whispering ~ Gilly Gilleshpie* as the ghost magnet that he is (see what I did there? LOL) the Gillster will probably attract a demon in disguise or something equally scary! *eek!!* So now I wait...(none too patiently, mind you)for the next installment. Oh, and I'm not picky - it can be an Abby book or an M.J. book - I'm OK with either one...hint hint!

Oh the parrot was in this one.. Gotta love that part.. Victoria Laurie really knows how to throw some one off that is for sure. I am truly enjoying this series though and can't wait to read the next one

Well I am enjoying the stories and I like the pacing of clues and overall pacing. Oddly, I am not really that fond of the two main characters. I often find them to be rude and actually mean to each other as well as to outsiders, but unless they really put me off I will still read the series. Any book that honestly presents clues to follow and I can't figure out the whole thing before finishing chapter 3, is fun to read. There is one thing that really bugs me though. By book 6 one would think the characters would have figured out they can drill a hole through the spike, before being magnetized, and slip in an elastic loop or velcro or something that will help them hold onto the damn things instead of dropping them all the time! An elastic or velcro can go around upper arms or around waists or even a rope can be tied around waists. (Not to be used around necks as could be used to strangle the wearer). They could sew thin cotton, deep pockets to their shirts and drop the exposed spike in there. Put them in the pockets cap down and make taking the holder off easy. Then you just remove the tube and drop it while the exposed spike and cap stays in the pocket. There has got to be some way to better hang onto them but the characters have not even explored the possibility. Not rocket science, but really paints them as absent minded bunglers, not in a funny way. What about the times they don't even take them along because they are just going to take a quick look around. C'mon these are their protection and everyday tools of their trade. Really? Maybe their sixth sense dulls or relplaced their common sense.

Another great addition to the series!
This time around M.J., Heath, her boyfriend, and Gilley, her best friend, head to New Mexico after Heath gets news that his uncle has died. It isn't long before they come to find out that a nasty demon from years before is responsible for it. This time around there aren't as many spooks for them to bust as the demon this time around is equivalent to about 10-20 (or more) regular spooks.
It was great getting more of Heath's backstory flushed out and seeing how his family has drama just like all of our own families. The new characters introduced are very welcome to the story and add a lot to the overall family vibe, though it is tense at times given the circumstances.
There are some great action sequences, particularly in Chapter 9 & 15, that make you wonder just how the characters might get out alive!! The main trio are all a bunch of badasses. M.J. is one of a kind, Gilley is finding his courage and Heath is doing all that he can to protect his friends even in a time of hardship. Together they make an incredible team and the way they work together to solve mystery after mystery makes for incredibly fun reads!

#6 in the Ghost Hunter Mystery series
During a hiatus of the show, Heath, M.J., and Gil travel to the Native American reservation where Heath's family lives. There's been a death in the family, although there are also some family disagreements over some incidents in the past involving Heath's mother and her siblings. But Sam (Heath's spirit grandfather) is insistent that M.J. accompany Heath to help out with a potential problem. Turns out there's a demon on the loose who is determined to kill off his entire family, and he's more powerful than they expected. The story, as always, was entertainingly funny with some exciting and scary moments as well. Heath and M.J. have a sweet romance just beginning, and there are also some touching scenes between Gilly and M.J. Doc the parrot is there and has learned some new tricks. I liked the whole book and was totally engrossed in the story, but it seemed to end suddenly. I even checked to see if I had missed a few pages because it seemed to abruptly shift from "we don't know who or why" to "oh, I know who did it and what they were thinking." That didn't really take away from the story, but it was just a jarring couple of pages, then the ending was good and very satisfying.

While I did love more background story on Heath, I was a tad put off with MJ this book. I hate her calling Heath her sweetie and sweetheart, just doesn't seem to fit. Maybe it's because I don't have a clear mental image of her. Although I do semi picture her like "baby" from dirty dancing and I'm not sure why. Lol
I also didn't care for her lack of respect when it came to Tribal law. Maybe it was just me, but she seemed to think she was above it and it bothered me a lot.
I did not buy the final fight scene and her battle cry... idk just didn't seem right. The ending seemed rushed... she came to the conclusion on her own and next chapter was the set up and the capture. Eh.

Like everything by this author these are in my pile of favorite beach blanket reads. Perfect for when I just want to enjoy a story. Fast, easy and entertaining. One thing that pleasantly surprised me about this story was the black pottery that is central to the story. I say this because we were given a pot from New Mexico as a gift and we learned a little about it but not much. Having the very distinctive pottery mentioned was unexpected and fun. I have been meaning to learn more about it and now I will. It is famous in the Santa Clara Pueblo of New Mexico in the US. I will finish this review and then head on down the rabbit hole that is the internet to learn more.

The author takes a break from the TV show and its cast by having MJ and Gil follow Heath to his home town to deal with personal deaths in the family. This monster is freaky, and the mystery involving him was a fun solve. We get to meet Heath's mother, some more of Sam Whitefeather, Pueblo lore and tradition (which was interesting). Those who missed Doc the bird will be happy to see him again - a wrap-up with the Pug MJ adopted during the duration of a few books back, see her best friend again for a brief time, and another nail in the coffin on the feelings for Steven disappearing like evaporating smoke. Better than the last one.

I’m giving this one 3.5 Stars. Overall, this book was enjoyable. It just wasn’t her best. It took me about 50%-60% of the way in to really get hooked.
Note: There were moments when I felt MJ was fat shaming Gilley and I didn’t approve. This is the second book that I found these brief but hurtful comments used as “jokes.”
The overall “vibe” of this book was very different. It was more focused on Heath and his family. So it was less mysterious than I would have liked. Also, I had one hunch about the culprit and I was correct. It was just a hunch, but still. 3.5 stars.

Lots of fun in this series. MJ Holliday and bf Heath Whitefeather race to New Mexico to help Heath's family. A demon is after anyone in his family line, including MJ. Through the spirit of Heath's grandfather, MJ learns she will have to kill the human controlling the demon. All the usual hijinks, Gilly Gillespie being over the top and lots of action and tension. A good read.

Different from the other Ghost Hunter mysteries, but it's also kind of refreshing to see them in a different setting. It's like a breather between the more serious mysteries, even if it does deal with a murder.
