What's the best part of bedtime? Stories with Mama! Before cuddling, Llama Llama must splish and splash in the tub, then put his red pajamas on.
Dewdney's catchy rhymes, effortless rhythm, and adorable artwork can now be enjoyed by even younger audiences. Toddlers will love this perfect read-aloud.
Anna Dewdney was an award-winning children's-book author, illustrator, teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of literacy and reading aloud to children. She was the author of the bestselling Llama Llama Red Pajama series of picturebooks, among many others. She lived with her partner Reed Duncan in Vermont where she worked, gardened, and spent time with her daughters and dogs.
Too simple to keep my 5-yr-old and too short for my preschoolers. They paid attention fairly well, but only because they were interested in the activities that the llama was doing, and they could relate. There was no particular joy or interest on the part of the story and frankly, it was like every other board book we own. Nothing original here.
My 18-Month old brought this book to me tonight before bath and bedtime. It is sweet. When we got to the part where llama brushes his teeth, he pointed to his mouth and made the motion of brushing his teeth. We actually read it 3 times. Lol. Good illustrations as well.
My baby loves this book before bed. The real trick is to sing the book. It goes perfectly to the tune of Brahm's lullaby. Learning that was a game changer!
A very cute edition to the Llama Llama series. This book goes through the activities (such as brushing ones teeth and reading a book) as Llama gets ready for bed.
This is my son’s current favorite read. We’ve read it so often that I have it memorized. He will randomly bring this book to me to read and he wants to read it over and over and over and over...
It’s a cute story that’s part of the Llama series. I bought this book and a few other Llama books since one of my daughter favorite lovelies is her stuffed Llama.
I first read this picture book to my niece and nephew. It was introduced as a way to set a routine for bed time. The rhymes and pictures of Llama made it easier for my niece and nephew to say "hey! that's what I do!" and be less annoyed about bed time. The tone of the rhymes are fun and soothing. This book is great for any child who needs to settle down at bed time. The words are easy to memorize but I never got tired of reading this book over and over again. The easy to memorize lines are great because kids can chant them as they get ready for bed almost like a bed time list. The setting of each page takes us through Llama's house as he gets ready for bed. The point of view being from a Llama is a fun way to have a main character that every child can identify with. Llamas are an unexpected twist and a great way for new unexpected rhymes as the author gets more and more creative.
My son is pretty impatient with books. He enjoys them but at bedtime, where we read before his bottle and bed, he makes it only through the first or second page before nearly melting down. This board book passed the test and he enjoyed it straight through. The fact that so much of the language is exactly what we use every night as we get ready for bed is a great example of our words, action, and picture.
Probably the weakest board book in the Llama set, in my opinion, just because the theme has been so many other times, usually with more of a soporific effect. But I still love these and wish we had them when my sons were little. The rhymes work, the pictures are both funny and adorable, with just the right amount of detail, and they are just the right length for active preschoolers who are learning how books work and getting ready to learn to read.
I really enjoyed reading "Llama Llama Nighty-Night." This is a fantastic board book which describes a night time routine. The book describes how Llama gets ready for bed by first brushing his teeth, then taking a bath, and then his Mom reads him a story. This is a very cute book that can help any child who is developing their own bedtime routine.
A book for infants and toddlers to understand and set the nighttime routine. Mama Llama makes Llama llama follow his nighttime routine. Post dinner, he brushes his teeth, takes a bath, visits the washroom and then it is time to read a bedtime story. He snuggles in with his Mama to read. Mama Llama tucks him in and then he is fast asleep. This simple yet sweet book.
A short tour through the familiar Llama Llama's bedtime routine takes readers through the usual events -- baths, brushing teeth, putting on pajamas, and so on. It's not a terribly memorable book, but might be a nice way to wrap up a bedtime storytime program.
This is a board book, so it's much shorter and less developed than the other Llama llama books tend to be. Same cute rhymes and illustrations, but very simple, and less sweet, because of the lack of development. Nothing super special about this book, but I'd use it with little kids.
My 6 year old loves to read these books to his younger siblings. The board books are easy enough for my almost 2 year old to pay attention to, and the longer, paperback ones, he reads to his 4 year old brother. He loves the rhyming rhythms and the silly, yet real, story lines.
Shorter, a great introduction to Llama Llama for the younger kids with shorter attention spans. I was gifted this at the right time, around when my son was 2 so, by the time he was 3, he was interested in learning more about Llama Llama and the longer books made their debut.
It's not as good as the classic Red Pajama story, but it's a very simple bedtime story. I think it's probably a little too simple for the age it looks aimed at (potty trained or training) but the simple sentences work well for my toddler, if not quite as much silly rhyming as Red Pajama.
There was a big decline in quality from Llama Llama Red Pajama. It's fine that the words are simpler, but the illustrations aren't as good! Dewdney mailed it in on this one.
