The Vampire Hunter Society has imprisoned Aido in order to interrogate him about Kaname’s connection to Sara Shirabuki. Meanwhile, Yuki wants a fresh start with Kaname, but circumstances arise that may force them apart.
Matsuri Hino was born on January 24 in Hokkaido. She was a bookshop keeper who one day decided to become a manga artist, and all of nine months later, in 1995, she published her first manga title, Kono Yume ga Sametara (When This Dream Is Over), in Japan's LaLa DX magazine.
Some manga series are pretty simple. You can step away from it for months, finally pick up a volume, and feel like you never left. Vampire Knight is not one of those series. I respect it for being one of the more complex and serious series that I've read.
I spent most of the volume thinking "What? I don't get it." It felt like I was reading an epic tragedy, but unfortunately I couldn't exactly figure out who was doing what or why they were doing it. Part of this was because I haven't read the series in months, but I think it was also because the series is just plain confusing. The summary of prior volumes at the beginning of the volume doesn't adequately set the stage and there's so much going on, that the happenings in the current volume are extremely confusing.
From what I could figure out, Kaname seems to be going off the deep end. Killing for no understandable reason. Allowing Sara Shirabuki to also kill indiscriminately. As much as Kaname says he wants to protect Yuki, his actions endanger her. I loved Kaname so much in the first volumes. I really don't want him to be evil. I feel like his character is very complex and we'll understand the context of his actions later. But I don't know...
I miss the humor in this series. It's never been hugely funny, but earlier volumes had a few laughs at Yuki's antics and especially at Aido's comical manner. Now, even though Aido and Yuki are both prominent players in this volume, there's nothing to laugh about. I do hate seeing Aido suffer. He's such a nice guy. And I hope Yuki gets back to being the strong character that she used to be. I feel like that will come soon. She seems to be in an emotional transition in this volume.
Part of me wants to give up on Vampire Knight, because it gets weirder and weirder, but I just have to see where it goes. Onto the next volume...
Vampire Knight Volume 14 continues on the very long story of Yuki, Kaname and Zero.
I have zero clue what's going on anymore. I felt that around the 11/12 mark this series could have ended with a nice bow tied on it. But it just keeps going... I'm super confused on Kaname's character and why he's doing what he's doing. It seems random and just a way to keep this series going. I am intrigued to see how this will go though, so I'm going to follow through as best as possible. It's just so tragic and sad... I really am hoping for some form of happy ending. This series used to be more of a romantic comedy/fantasy mix and now it's just... depressing.
This is getting slightly more interesting but I hate what the author is putting Kaname through for no apparent reason. Why did Kaname go off the deep end so drastically out of nowhere? It was looking like Kaname and Yuki's dynamic was evolving but instead, it devolved into the mess that this volume presented. I'm not sure I like where it's going but it's entertaining ... I guess?
I haven't mentioned the art in a while so here it is: It's pretty good for the most part! Though there are quite some pages (usually action-packed ones) where I have no idea what's going on. The drawings as a whole have gotten better since the first volume though. There are some that are breathtaking with how beautifully drawn they are. This goes for the past few volumes.
Thank you Kaname. Your doucheness is actually working out for my devious pairing. Please continue to be absolute ass.
Also, I literally (Yes LITERALLY, ask my bf he was tots there) yelled "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?" while reading this. Kaname, what are you up to? (And more importantly when whenwhenwhen will I find out???)
Also can you please stay like out of the picture for the next like 5 volumes so Yuki and Zero can get some smoochy-smoochy time in? Kthxbye
This series kills me everytime. How I wish there wasn't such a long wait between volumes.
In general, this volume, like the previous 3 or 4, was mostly set-up and backstory with a tiny, but hugely important, event going on. (And seriously, I do mean huge). We're getting there, but Hino needs to stop and set-up some suspense for us.
In other news, I'm really happy with the way things are going with Aido and his characterization. Before really was the comic relief character in the series, but he's really grown quite a bit and become more of his own person. Yuki, as well, has been less whiny and all "girl power!" as of late, though she is still love stricken over Kaname. She's growing a bit of independence, I think though. Zero, as always, is fabulous. Mmmm...
Hino, some sexy Zero times for volume 15? I mean I love his expressions EVERYWHERE in this volume, but I need him and Yuki to be in the same room! MORE ANGST!!
4/5
(Also, I do apologize for the obvious fan-girlism all over this review.)
It seems like everything that made this series so great is gone, other than the lovely artwork. The drama used to be balanced out by a cute touch of humor, but now the only place we find any of that is in the afterwords.
I would actually be okay with a nonstop dark, dramatic storyline IF IT MADE SENSE. But this has become a huge, rambling mess of ridiculousness that Hino's gorgeous art simply cannot save.
The previous volume gave me hope, but this one dropped the ball again. I will probably read the next two books at some point, since I already own them, but I don't really care what happens any more. This series was done at volume ten. :(
I looked back over my ratings for this series, and no volume past v. 5 got more than 3 stars from me. That's about right.
Much of what I would have to say about this volume would echo things I've already said in my reviews of other volumes. It does seem like it's trying to scrape together some level of coherence from the seemingly haphazard storytelling early on in the series, and come to some conclusions regarding the numerous human and vampire factions, but I couldn't care less about a lot of it because the reader is not made privy to the motivations of anyone involved. At least two of the tentpole characters behave in ways that are not out of character, necessarily, but I am frustrated with their lack of initiative. Or, when they decide to take action, I am completely baffled as to why they made their choices.
Why is Sara openly recruiting human girls to her hive? What was the point of interrogating Aido when that sequence went absolutely nowhere. And after that, why did Kaname ?
Unfortunately, this is a series I'm slogging through only because I own the whole series. I could skim or skip to the last volume, I suppose, but since there are only a few volumes left, I may as well tough it out.
Like a lot of the other reviews of this one, I’m getting confused with Kaname’s character. I like…liked? Him. But I don’t get what’s happening anymore.
The further I go reading this the more bored I am actually getting with it. I really liked it up to the point where you see Kaname always leaving Yuuki alone while he goes off to do whatever he has set out to do. I know that whatever he is doing is to keep Yuuki safe but having converted her back to being a vampire and pretty much abandoning her (in my small opinion) is worse. YES, I know he has to leave her behind while he is doing what he needs to do and leaves her in the care of those he trusts but honestly what she needed most was him. He hasn't done anything to since converting her back to a vampire to keep the trust and faith that she has in him. Much of Yuuki feeling she can't reach being an equal to him is because he has too many secrets and doesn't share with her. One can go on and on about blind trust and blind faith but there is a limit to it. Plus, the whole Yuuki, Zero, Kaname triangle is getting boring, old and redundant. Actually the whole story is. I hope they add something more exciting to the story. Killing purebloods, tainted pills, conspiracies and all that other stuff is not making me hold on to the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next.
?????? <----This is what was going through my head through most of this volume. I can't even properly review this very well it was so muddled. Good art and loved seeing a few characters but until the end I was often confused. New plot twists happening and without spoilers there is really nothing more I can say.
And just when I think everything's going to be okay, BOOM, plot twist. SIGH. All I want is Kaname and Yuki to be together, but Kaname has changed. Maybe forever? Definitely for the worst. Can't say I like where this is going.
I'm mostly finishing this series because I miss how good it used to be when they were all still at school, rather than actually liking it now. I wouldn't even bother if I weren't so attached to the early volumes.
Continuiamo a navigare sulle 4 stelle e 1/2.
Now THAT was a wild ride. At that point, I have zero clue what's going on anymore. I feel like the series could have perfectly ended at around volume 11 or 12, however, it just keeps going. Honestly, during my readings I just keep going like "What? I don't really get what is going on." and then open a random summary in the end and try to catch up, which is weird because I haven't even done any break between the volumes, so I feel like I should actually be at least KIND OF up to date and not as lost. I'm extremely confused regarding Kaname's character. Like what and why is bro doing those evil things??? Is he actually gonna become a fully evil character??? Kamane seems to be going off the deep end. He kills for no apparent or understandable reason, while also allowing Sara Shirabuki to kill indiscriminately.
This series used to be kind of a romcomy-fantasy and now it's just... depressing, confusing and continuously endlessly. I miss the certain lightness that was present during the initial volumes... Part of me wants to give up on the "Vampire Knight" series because it just gets crazier and weirder (not in a good way), however, I just really have to see where this goes and how it ends. *UGH*
Synopsis: Yuki Cross has no memory of her past prior to the moment she was saved from a vampire attack ten years ago. She was adopted by the headmaster of Cross Academy, and now works alongside Zero to guard the Academy's secret. Cross Academy is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu are the Guardians of the school, protecting the Day Class from the Academy's dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires.
Review: The opening chapters are little cliche, but the story quickly builds up to a rapid spiral of drama, psychological trauma and vampiric romance that isn't overly lovey-dovey. Yuki is the protagonist, but there's not much to like about her. The driving forces of the series are Yuki's two love interests. The tragic backstory of Zero and his desire for vengeance against a powerful vampire, and the alluring mystery of Kaname and his strange obsession with Yuki carry the plot. Zero and Kaname develop a bit of a rivalry for Yuki's attention that ends up leading to some pretty dramatic stakes and tension.
There are a lot of characters in this series, but only a small handful of them are actually engaging and memorable. Out of the 35 or so characters, only 5 or 6 of them carry the plot on their shoulders; some of which don't even stick around very long. Zero and Kaname are the stars of the show but the story grows rather dull when they're not around. Ichiru and Shizuka were cool but they only made a few appearances.
There is a pretty wicked climax in the middle of the series that really drew me in, but the rest of the series fails to live up to what that climax set up. The characters become less interesting, the plot falls apart and struggles to find a proper pacing and purpose. I really liked the first half of the series, the second half was just passable in my opinion.
again... I keep thinking Kaname's backstory has been completely revealed and then BAM theres always a plot twist. I'm loving zeros cold indifference, though I can totally see through it. I'm interested to see Yuki as she sees the real Kaname, and how their relationship will mend.
Volume 14 continues with the dark, moody, and thought provoking overtones of the last volume. Throughout the story we are asked how we see our main cast of characters, especially the evasive and mysterious Kaname. Through Yuki's eyes, Kaname has always been a sympathetic and admirable character. As the higher echelon of pureblood vampires, he is most revered and feared. He has shown Yuki kindness and protection when she was younger while displaying snippets of his vulnerability. Unlike Yuki's rose tinted version, I see Kaname as a walking contradiction. He seeks forgiveness, but punishes without a second thought. He provides Yuki options but only after he has manipulated the situation and even her memories. He would like Yuki to see him as her equal, but he always carries an air of self righteous that purposely places him above all others. I feel deceived by Kaname every time I think I should give him a chance. I don't understand his actions, especially when it comes to punishment because it seems so arbitrary especially in this volume. He takes action against those that are hardly a threat, but yet turns a blind eye to Sara Shirabuki and finding out who killed the pureblood that attended his soiree. Kaname isn't the only one evolving as a character. Aido, who is continually used as a comic relief, becomes much more serious in this volume. His loyalty to Kaname, even undergoing torture by the Vampire Hunter society, is unparallelled. His devotion, however, is strongly tested as this volume ends. I'm curious to see where Hino takes his character and I hope that he gets a storyline of his own. In addition to Aido's new character growth, Sara Shirabuki is becoming a serious threat. Like the previous villain before her, she is also a pureblood vampire who is trying to form a race that will submit to her wishes. She uses her demure appearance to get close before she strikes. In a lot of ways, she and Kaname share a lot of similarities. Our heroine Yuki is still confused about everything that is happening. Her ties to Kaname, who is suspected to help enable the new pureblood threat, gets her arrested by the Vampire Society. Yuki's arrest can only mean more beautiful artwork demonstrating the agonizing tension with Zero. Speaking of Zero, I wish he had more presence in this volume. Though a man of a few words, we can easily identify his feelings written all over his face for Yuki though he adamantly says he doesn't have any. We also know that he is physically weakening due to his self imposed diet. I hope he has a bigger role in the next volume.
In Vampire Knight, Vol.14, the tales has turned a bit like a soap opera. It is a tale where vampires and humans live in a fragile existence. The vampires are separate but stronger and the humans have a group of vampire hunters who exist to do away with vampires who become threats to themselves or others. The main character is Yuki Cross, a pureblood vampire who resides with her fiancee, Kaname Kuran. Her oldest childhood friend and her foster father are vampire hunters. Her vampire mother died to make Yuki human but she has been restored to being a vampire. Her fiancee is also her brother. This story seems to be about a power struggle within the vampires. It is interesting tale considering it's target audience.
Finally, something seems to be happening. Finally, some sort of conflict seems to be coming about. However, I found the bit with Aido at the Hunters' HQ ridiculous; I found it out of character for Cross to behave in such a way. And the ending was a little bit shocking while still leaving me dissatisfied with the pacing of the story.
Also, the "tension" between Yuki and Kaname is no longer tension--it's just stupidity. Yuki finally understands him and makes promises to him and then turns around and breaks them on a whim. She is the dumbest--even worse than before she returned to her vampire state. I am determined to finish the series, but this is really not enjoyable.
I read this one before going on vacation so I really don't remember too much about it. I know that there's only 5 volumes left so we're heading into the final arc. Zero is still giving Yuki the cold-shoulder, Kaname is distancing himself from Yuki and straight up murders Aido...so Yuki is taken into custody of the Hunter Society to answer some questions. And that's all I remember! I used to love this series but as it drags out I'm thinking Hino ran out of ideas. This plot has been long since stretched thin and I'm ready for its conclusion.
In this volume you learn that Kaname is much more than Yuki's love but something bigger. . Kaname is awesome. The Arthur does a fantastic job of NOT creeping you out with the dark relationships and story lines.
