Sins of the Night is the eighth book in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series and one of my favorites, by far. In Sins of the Night, we get the story of Alexion, a former Dark-Hunter doomed for Shadedom that Acheron manages to save, and Danger, a feisty French Dark-Hunter, betrayed in her human life by her very own husband. Alexion is sent by Ash to judge the Dark-Hunters of Mississippi, deciding which will die and which will live, and he is sent to stay with Danger during his ten-day stint as a human. In the beginning, Danger does not trust Alexion but they eventually build a mutual trust which leads to a deep, passionate love. Despite all Lex's attempts to keep Danger safe and out of the hands of the illustrious Stryker and the Dark-Hunter gone bad (then gone good again) Kyros, Danger is killed by an Atlantean dagger. Just when all hope is lost, Acheron surprises Lex and brings Danger back to life as "other" so they may finally have their happily ever after.
I love Alexion. I think he is one of my favorite male characters in this series. He is so sexy, witty, fiery, sarcastic, and just all-around delicious. I loved how protective he was of Ash and how staunchly he defended Acheron against the ridiculous accusations of the Dark-Hunters led astray by Stryker. His paternal love for Simi was so sweet and it was nice to see that extend to Xirena, also, when she came into his life. I love that he hated Artemis because I also hate the bitch; he's a man after my own heart! He was sweet to Danger and treated her like a man should. His compassion and dedication to trying to save his former best friend was completely respectable and I loved him even more for it; therefore, I felt his pain when he realized that nothing he could say would change Kyros' mind.
Danger has got to be one of the best females in this series. She is intelligent, sarcastic, strong, and sexy. She is not afraid to stand up for what she believes, and she has dealt with the hardships and betrayls of her human life surprisingly well. Like with characters such as Simi and Tabitha, I love that she says what she means and means what she says. She is honest and loving. Danger was very funny and she had me laughing throughout much of this novel.
I was very glad to see how Xirena came to be bonded to Alexion. I have not read this series in order so I was always a little confused as to how she came to be with Lex. I thought it was hilarious that she was actually sent to kill him and ended up working with him. It was, also, very interesting to see her being...submissive to Alexion. Like any demon, Xirena has a mind of her own and is not afraid to share it, so it was nice to see her quelled by Alexion and Acheron a couple of times.
I think this is the first book where I actually could not stand Stryker. Normally, I like him pretty good for a villain, but this time I wanted to choke him all the time. Now, I know he is Ash's enemy and everything, but the things he was saying about Ash...I wanted to kill him. No one says bad things about my Acheron and gets away with it! And that little stunt he pulled, pretending to have Danger's soul, was so not cool and I was very glad when he got pissed because Alexion knew he didn't actually have her soul.
One of my favorite parts, though, was when Danger and Alexion were watching Troy. I thought it was hilarious that Alexion was pointing out all the historical inconsistencies throughout the movie, and that Danger got jealous when he was talking about how beautiful Helen of Troy really was.
In this book, it seemed to me like there was more sex than there was in some of the other Dark-Hunter books, and I liked that. It was reminiscent of Talon and Sunshine's sex marathons.
Also, I have to say that I was utterly thrilled by the complete lack of Artemis in this book. Thank you, God!
This book was utterly fantastic and I would definitely re-read this book over and over again. Alexion and Danger are the perfect characters and the perfect couple.
