Я правда хотела, чтобы эта книга мне понравилась. Хотела прочитать всю серию, чтобы вновь окунуться в атмосферу чего–то похожего на «Гарри Поттера». Я знала, что первая книга — почти плагиат первой книги Роулинг, а остальные уже меньше похожи. Но «Магический контрабас» отбил у меня всё желание. Во–первых, имена ужасно странные, и мне сложно их прочитать, не то что запомнить кто есть кто. Во–вторых, бредовые заклинания. Даже говорить о них не буду. В–третьих, я бы с удовольствием почитала даже некий плагиат «Гарри», если бы он был качественным. Здесь же мы видим картонных персонажей, ужасный стиль написания на уровне Донцовой и скучный сюжет. Похоже на «ГП». Но не то. Совсем не то. Вообще не то. Депутат Дурсли — это еще ладно. Но контрабас? Женская версия Гарри летает на контрабасе?! Ещё мне не понравилось то, что в Хогвартсе Емца учат не только хороших магов, но и темных. Чему учит книга автора? Что зло это хорошо?
Моя оценка — 2/5, читать, конечно, возможно, но принесет ли это прочтение вам какое–то удовольствие. Я не дочитала книгу, но решать вам.
✏Запросто кому угодно могла отгрызть руку по локоть да еще и сказать, что невкусно.
✏Все экспонаты трогаем только глазами.

Сначала немного напрягало по сюжету (и плагиат не одобряю...даже пародийный), но любитель могучего языка нашего во мне пел (и вот уже 14 книг поет не затыкаясь). Столько словообразований, наших таких родных русских шуточек и присказок, просто ааааа. Одни драконюхи чего стоят :) Первая эта книга со скрежетом может пойти, но потом покатится все. А уж если слушать, так вообще (с сыном наперегонки слушаем и читаем).

хаха первая книга за год. слушала РАДИ нового подкаста, но я не оправдываюсь. на самом деле приступала к прослушиванию с максимально открытым сердцем и мозгом. итог: это феерически странно. я не буду проходиться по сюжету или чему-то ещё (потому что слушайте где-то в феврале наш с максом подкаст), потому что это НЕ ТАК УЖ И ВАЖНО. таня гроттер — это героиня без... характера?? я понимаю, что у гурия пуппера — простите гарри поттера — в первой книге с этим тоже были проблемы. избранн_ая — это не ИДЕНТИЧНОСТЬ блин. у баб-ягуна больше характера, чем у таньки. понимаете я это пишу и чувствую внутренний кринж зачем я это пишу господи

I've been intrigued by the Tanya Grotter series since I first heard of it. An obvious parody of the Harry Potter series, the first book was written in 2002, and since then, Russian author Dmitri Aleksandrovich Yemets has written eleven Tanya Grotter books. They're bestsellers in Russia, where copyright doesn't exist (just kidding but not really), but an initial attempt to publish them in translation was blocked by J.K. Rowling and Time Warner.
So I was rather surprised to find English translations available for sale. That said, I suspect this is very much not an official translation. The writing is klunky and unfluent, and some of the translations are downright bizarre. For example, I'm told by Wikipedia that the Voldemort-like villainess in the books is named Chuma-del-Tort, but in the English edition I read, she's called "Plague-del-Cake." Muggles are supposedly called "Lopukhoids", but this version translates it as "Moronoid."
As for the story itself, it doesn't even pretend not to be copying Harry Potter. When little Tanya Grotter's parents, the great white wizard Leopold Grotter and his wife (who's never even named) are killed by the black sorceress Plague-del-Cake, Tanya miraculously survives, with a strange birthmark on her nose. She is sent to live with her horrible Aunt and Uncle Durnev and their awful daughter Pipa, who bully and abuse Tanya for eleven years, until a boy named Bab-Yagun flies to her room one day and informs her that she's a witch and will soon escape the world of the Moronoids to come to the Tibidox School of Magic.
The plot from there proceeds in broadly similar fashion to Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone. Tanya is a feisty, spirited girl, much less passive than Harry, but generally good-natured, not even harboring any hatred for the Durnevs, just a mild antipathy. She makes friends, including a pair of best buddies, Bab-Yagun and Vanka Valyalkin, establishes a rivalry with her roommate, a black magician named Coffinia Cryptova, turns out to be a prodigy flying on her magic double bass and becomes a champion in the school's dragonball tournament, and eventually has to face the risen-from-the-dead Plague-del-Cake and her secret collaborator. The Dumbledore-figure is Sardanapal Chernomorov; the friendly female mentor is Medusa Gorgonova (yes, she has snakes for hair). There's also a Snape, and ghosts, and instead of wands they all carry magic rings that throw sparks when they cast spells.
The author said that Tanya Grotter was not a satire but a "cultural response" to Harry Potter, and while the imitation is very obvious, Tanya Grotter and the Magic Double Bass isn't just Harry Potter with Russian names. Yemets created a very Russian setting full of classical references to Russian legends and literature (complemented by a comprehensive appendix). Tibidox doesn't have "Houses"; it's divided into black and white magicians. Its guardians include titans and kikimora and domovoy. There are Pushkin jokes, and while I couldn't get all the puns, it was obvious that in Russian it must be full of them.
Yemets has also said that he considers Tanya Grotter to be too Russian to "live a full life" elsewhere, and indeed, Tanya Grotter and the Magic Double Bass will probably only appeal to curious Harry Potter fans outside of Russia. That said, I understand that in later books, Yemets stops imitating Rowling's plot and Tanya goes wildly off into her own storyline, so I may read the next few books to see what happens.

I am not quite finished reading it, but I am ready to declare it utter crap. It is exhausting to read. Have you heard of the one Chinese knock-off of Harry Potter, where he turns into a hairy dwarf? This is along the same lines. We have a "parody" that borrows many plot elements, and even thinly disguised characters. Dumbledore becomes Sardanapal Chernomorov. (Chernomor is the baddie from Pushkin's Ruslan and Ludmila.) Minerva McGonagall becomes Medusia Gorgonova. Harry Potter is, of course, Tanya Grotter. You get the idea. It's no wonder a court found this to be a "derivative work" and booted this book off the shelves of stores in the law-abiding parts of the Western world.
Speaking of law-abiding: pretty much the only reason I continued reading this is because I became curious, trying to analyze exactly why this book was failing so hard. Here is what I came up with. In Rowling's world, magic is rule-governed. We have spells and charms and curses--different in effect, if not in ways obvious to us muggles. Objects are generally single-purpose, and they have a clear "legality status". For example, a charmed flying broomstick does one thing. It flies. It is not considered a "muggle artifact", because it was made with the purpose of flying it later. It has handles and maybe even a compass for navigation. On the other hand, a flying car is a muggle artifact, because it was made by muggles and then charmed by a wizard. You are not allowed to use magic outside of school, or to harm muggles with it. I suspect that a big part of Rowling's appeal is precisely these rules--working them out, revisiting the books to see what is consistent and what she maybe overlooked. The books are also meticulously plotted; we see some glimpses of Harry-as-Horcrux at least as far back as The Chamber of Secrets, when he acts almost against his will when speaking parseltongue during the dueling club scene. The mystery novel plotting is fun to revisit, because there is a certain thrill in picking up clues that one might have missed on the first reading.
On the other hand, Emets just randomly throws in wacky stuff, the more the better. His magical objects have no special purpose. The "magical contrabass" does a million things, all kind of random. Tanya does magic through it and it's fine, nothing against the rules there. Chernomorov has a magic mustache--I dunno, maybe a reference to Chernomor's beard, or maybe it just occurred to Emets as a funny idea (it wasn't, btw) and he ran with it for a while. I suspect that when Chernomorov reappears, the mustache will be forgotten, because Emets does not have the attention span to develop the joke into anything interesting. I also do not expect to get any insights into what exactly is considered to be нежить (dark creatures, approximately?)... We have, for example, vampires playing dragonball against witches. You'd think vampires would be considered нежить; after all, they are not alive, and they're not the good guys. In a world that is governed by rules, that's what I would expect. In the chaotic randomness of Emets's creation, I don't expect anything, and I am not particularly interested in working out the rules, either.
I honestly cannot see how this was spun out into over a dozen books. I'm amazed even one got published. What dreck.

Очевидна в начале книги пародия на Гарри Поттера. При этом неожиданно нам с дочкой очень понравилось. Увлекательные приключения, понятные ребенку проблемы и юмор. Масса нюансов, названий, прошитых в нашей культуре.

Моя первая книга! Которая научила любить книги, которая доказала и показала. Не смотря на простую историю, то как написана книга :лексика, слова, фразочки, все очень классное!!

Я читал Таню Гроттер в подростковом возрасте, и зачем-то перечитал сейчас. Что я могу сказать, это была ошибка. Все очень плохо. Все эти фразочки, которые видимо казались мне смешными, сейчас выглядят как бесконечное хамство всех по отношению ко всем, многие шутеечки просто оскорбительны.
Я несколько лет поработал в школе, поэтому меня всегда триггерит, когда я вижу преподавателей, которых нельзя подпускать к детям, пусть даже в книжках. А таких тут предостаточно. Сюжет довольно нелепый, победа протагониста абсолютно случайна, всемогущий Сарданапал сделал более-менее ничего. Кто-то может сказать, что и в Гарри Поттере то же самое происходит. В этом есть доля правды, особенно если вы не являетесь сторонником теории "Большой игры Дамблдора", но там мир на порядок более продуман, плюс присутствует волшебная атмосфера сказки. Здесь же многие вещи происходят по приколу, без всяких последствий, а вместо сказки тут атмосфера подворотни.
Кстати, в драконбольном матче, когда Ягун представляет команду Тибидохса, он пропускает пятый номер. Видимо, книга сделана настолько халтурно, что ни сам автор, ни редакторы, ее даже не перечитывали и этого не заметили.

Это второй раз как я прочитала эту книгу, первый был примерно в 11 лет а сейчас мне 25.
Куча комментаторов предъявляют этой книге за то что она то ли слишком, то ли не достаточно похожа на Гарри Поттера. Книга явно была задумана как насмехательство над Гарри Поттером но следуйщие книги явно уже приобретают свою собственную сюжетную линию. Хотя главные элементы как смерть родителей, магическая школа, полёты на предметах и присутствие архи злодея естественно не меняются.
Меня эта книга заставляет смеяться и улыбаться что в 11 лет что и сейчас. В этой книге куча юмора которого кстати я не заметила в Гарри Поттере.

В целом интересно. Видно, что начиналось все как стеб над ГП. И вот интересно, что его как бы отзеркалили - девочка вместо мальчика и родственники так же перевёрнуты - не тетя, а дядя и у него дочь. А вот устройство школы совсем другое.
Много смешных моментов. Кикиморы понравились наверное больше всего. Но как-то так получилось, что жизни до школы уделили большую часть книги. На уроки так толком и не сходили, почти сразу конец света организовался.

Apart from some promising scenes at the start and a few stray moments throughout, this is a painfully unimaginative book that isn’t so much a parody or ironic adaptation to the Russian context as it was a failed attempt at something resembling a pale reflection of a story. I was hoping for a mix of stupid and funny, but what I only got the former.

Белиберда какая-то. Читать вообще не смогла, аудиокнига была полегче. Чтица, благодаря таланту, создала атмосферу детской книги приключений, потому что читая самостоятельно было только одно ощущение: автор издевается над читателем.

Если бы не явная пародия на всеми известную книгу, была бы даже неплохая сказка. Детям нравится , ну а мне как любителю Гарри Поттера все это несколько претит

I read this in english, maybe something was lost in translation but I found this incredibly boring. The characters are paper-thin and uninteresting.
