Time Warp Trio #15

Oh Say, I Can't See

Rate this book
In the middle of Christmas night, 1776—in a surprise attack—General George Washington bravely led his American Colonial troops across the Delaware River to New Jersey. There, the Americans victoriously battled the hated British. Everyone knows that. But what is little known is that the Time Warp Trio was on board that fateful boat ride. It’s true. They were brought there by The Book, and only author Jon Scieszka knows why. . . .

2.5ish This story focuses on the crossing of the Delaware and the march to Trenton by way of kids that time travel with a magic book, a girl from the future, and robot cat. The characters complain and use the word 'stupid' a lot, and generally don't seem to enjoy or learn anything (expect some facts) from their experience. Maybe if I had read the previous books in the series the story would have been more appealing.

Pros-it was a quick read and my kids will remember the story of the Crossing of the Delaware.

Similar books: The magic tree house series, but with a bit more snark, and George Washington's Socks.

3.5 stars.. Fun to read this next adventure with Joe, Fred and Sam's great-granddaughter Samantha summoning them to round out her Time Warp Trio. While looking for The Book, the trio meets General Washington and experiences the Christmas Eve trek across the Delaware River to Trenton.

It's been 20 years since I started this series, back when my children were reading it. And I read all the books written in the series at that point. But there are this book and one more book left in the series that I need to read. Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Treehouse series has more history in it but are usually at least two times longer, but the Time Warp Trio are more silly and fun. Also, it felt to me that Time Warp Trio was written for young readers, especially boys, where the Magic Treehouse books seemed to be written for parents or teachers to read to their children and classes.

I accidentally read the last two books of the series out of order. I love American history, and the time around the revolution is always so interesting. Samantha, Sam's great-granddaughter, accidentally transports herself and Fred and Joe to the time of George Washington crossing the Delaware. Ironic because I think I've finally figured out it is Sam who often accidentally transports the boys back in time and then blames Joe. I enjoyed the historical aspects and the humor. Fred is my favorite character.

This book seemed even sillier than its predecessors. It was still a great fun wild romp through history, but Samantha and her techno-cat wore thin pretty fast.

I give this a two, it probably deserves better, because I don’t remember it too well.

Hey guys and girls this is the kind of book that will tell you a lot of things about when George Washington crossed the Delaware and fought the Hessian. The genre of this book is fiction and it is also adventure because they have to cross the Delaware and fight the Hessians. I will also say some ***Spoiler Alert*** so if you don't like that sorry or read someone else's book review. My opinion of the is not that bad because it was really funny because they are in George Washington time because a homework ate a cat you will understand when you read it. Also when they cross the Delaware and the some of the characters are freezing but they see a girl that is not cold so she told them to ware it but they said no just because it is a girl coat.

The book setting took place in Pennsylvania, crossing the Delaware, and in New Jersey. The main characters in this book are Samantha, Fred, Joe, George Washington and the soldiers in the battle. The book was told in a first person point of view and it is a person vs person because they help the American fight the Hessians. This book was mostly about the kids Joe, Fred, and Samantha trying to find a book because the book took them to 1776 because Samantha touched the book that teleports you to where you touch like a picture or words. So when they teleported to 1776 they have to find the book that teleports them back, they remember that they have to wait intill it all goes away like when it finishes. Which that really sucked because what if it really cold you have to wait intill it is all over in the book but you still have to find the book.

My favorite character was Fred and Joe because in one part of the book when they had to cross the Delaware they were freezing to death because in the book it says that there nose was frozen. Also in a another part was that it was Christmas and they were angry because they said they could been playing there new games that they got. I would also agree with them of being angry because I will rather play me games in a Christmas. One of the funny part is when they return to there homes and started a snow ball fight and one of them was going to hit one by behind but they heard a cat meow and started running because they got scared and honestly I would probably run because I didn't expect a cat meow or a dog bark.

Another thing about the book that I like was when the book is finished and the other part that is left. I like that part because it shows you how to do a trick with the George Washington bill which was funny. It was funny because it shows you how to make Washington face into a mushroom when you do it it looks funny. It shows and tell you what to do so if you don't want to read you can look at the picture or just do the opposite. If you do the mushroom it is not that hard.

I will rate this book a 4 out of 5 because I didn't like part of the book especially in the beginning when it takes a long time just to explain how the book that teleports you do. I will recommend this book who likes to read book about history or kid that like George Washington. Also remember that the kids need to find a book to go back to the world where they live but they have to wait until the book is over and or when the soldiers of George Washington and himself win the war.

This book made me slowly get used to the idea that we can time travel. In this story, the kids Joe and Fred, and Sam’s great-granddaughter from 100 years in the future, find themselves in 1776 Pennsylvania with George Washington before he marches his troops across the Delaware River and successfully attacks enemy troops. The story moves along with some fun and excitement and builds up to the spot where they catch the enemy troops off guard on Christmas morning and storm into their camp. The theme would be fortitude. For Samantha, it is really for her school report which she tries to capture in her camera and audio recorder all the thrilling details building up to the victory. She has on silver coat made of “Therm Fabric” that repels rain, snow, cold, and wind. There is something very mysterious and mischievous about mixing the future up with the present as well as the past. This book is part of a series. The stories are a fun read for children at ages 9 - 12.

Fred, Joe, and Sam’s great-granddaughter Samantha travel back in time to the American Revolution and meet General George Washington and his men at a time of crisis. This newest installment in the Time Warp Trio series falls in line with the other zany, funny titles, and fans will be eager to get their hands on it--and they just might come away with a better understanding of what the patriots faced at Valley Forge.

Our Time Warp Trio has got themselves transported back in time again. This time, they have ended up in the Revolutionary War and have an encounter with George Washington. But can they prove to the great general that they are not British spies in time to convince him to cross the Delaware?

Silly fun.

story line is too discombobulated with characters from the future with robot dog with techno gadgets and only 2 of the 3 main characters. hard one to catch onto if it's the first of the series one reads. liked how Scieszka grappled with this historical event.

The little professor was really into the presidents when we picked this book up. We didn't realize we had picked up book #15 of a 16 book series. Thankfully he loved it and we went back to the library to pick up the first book in this delightful series by Jon Scieszka!

Not as good as others in the series, but a nice, realistic portrayal at the condition of the troops at the time.
