Sapphire princess Sabrina uses a special glitter dust from her magic bag to enable herself to fly through the Jewel Kingdom with her butterfly companion, Zazz. Original.
Jahnna N. Malcolm is the pen name for husband-and-wife team Jahnna Beecham and Malcolm Hillgartner. Together they've written four musicals, two movies, three CD-ROM games, and nearly one hundred books, including the popular series The Jewel Kingdom. They met in the theater and were married on the stage using Marlowe's famous love letter from "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" as their wedding vows.
I LOVED these books as a kid, so I was curious to read one of these updated editions now. Obviously I had to pick the one about Sabrina the Sapphire Princess, my favorite princess of the four. The book’s main strength is that there is a lot of action--less than 20 pages in, and Sabrina finds what appears to be a dangerous lake monster! There is also magic, poison, and plenty of suspenseful moments. While there is not a lot of backstory, and the illustrations are pretty essential for understanding some of the magical creatures, overall this held up well for me. Now I'm hoping they reissue the super special!
This book takes the same style as the first but turns it up to 11. The suspense is real in this book and I actually jumped a little when the monster on page 16! Overtime Oona became my favorite character and the author flushes out this monster excellently. I like that this book has a whole new environment that the author does a superb job flushing out with vivid descriptions and excellent characters to act within. I loved the inclusion of the frog people as well.
I recently bought some of the books in this series for my 6yo daughter. I just previewed it for her and it’s a cute fun little adventure.
I wish there was a tad bit less of an emphasis on looks at the end though. I figured the point of the story would be not to judge ppl by their appearance, and it was. But once we found out that the monster used to be a beautiful mermaid it just seemed that everyone would have been happier if she was still beautiful. 🤷🏻♀️ But it was subtle and may just be my impression. I’ll still let my daughter read it and I’ll add her thoughts once she does.
my favorite part is when suddenly she saw a monster and it was not really a monster it was just trying to help her so it ate the poison thing she was going to eat and she was saved and then the monster died but they healed him with a flower and she was alive

Another delightful read from my childhood! I love the lessons that are being taught in this book along with the beautiful world building! Each princess kingdom is continuing to be well thought out and have unique elements to their jewel!
Found this in one of my boxes that was in storage and I had to read it again to see if I still loved the story just as much now and I did when I was a kid. And I do. It was such a nice bit of nostalgia
The Sapphire Princess, Sabrina, was always my most favorite princess in the Jewel Kingdom series, and this book shows her at her best! When Sabrina sees a big and ugly monster in the waters of her kingdom, all hell breaks loose - especially when it tries to 'attack' her during her picnic. All of Sabrina's people (and sisters) are convinced that the monster is evil because, well, it's a monster. But loving-hearted Sabrina isn't convinced.
The message in this book is very touching and true. Just because someone looks scary doesn't mean they are bad, and that there is beauty in EVERYONE, even in monsters.
The sapphire princess saw a lake monster and she ran to get help from someone. But she didn't know that the monster was actually a mirmade. A bad lord had turned her into a monster.
Soon the sapphire saw that the monster was a mirmade. And it saved her life by eating a poisones pear. When the monster ate the pair it got really sick and it began diying. The sapphire princess had to heal the monster-mirmade before it was to late.
I never read these when I was young. i just saw it on a friends bookshelf and thought it was cute so i asked if i could read it. it was really cute and i thought the message was good for little girls. A really cute and fun read! :)
If your child can read at this level it would be a good book. A fun beginning fantasy series. The plot lines are simple and easily solved with not too much of the dark side of fantasy.
I was just sitting in orchestra rehearsal today minding my own business when my brain suddenly decided that it'd had enough of Beethoven and that it was time to bombard me with overwhelmingly bittersweet, nostalgic feelings about books that I had adored as a tiny person but consequently forgotten about completely. Thanks, brain?? Anyways, this is one of those books and I just wanted to stick a Goodreads pin in it so I don't forget about it again. <3
