Franklin Robert Adams (August 31, 1933 - January 4, 1990) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer, formerly a career soldier. He is best known for his "Horseclans" books. He wrote as Robert Adams, an abbreviated form of his full name.

Adams was an early pioneer of the post-holocaust novel. His Horseclans novels are precursors to many of today's attempts at this type of story, many of which do not exhibit his painstakingly detailed world view or extraordinary plot follow-through (many of his Horseclans books are so interlinked that they make sense only when read in order; he did not create many "stand alone" books in the series).

Hallmarks of Adams' style include a focus on violent, non-stop action, meticulous detail in matters historical and military, strong description, and digressions expounding on various subjects from a conservative and libertarian viewpoint.

I usually hate short stories with a passion as I am terribly nosy and they don't tell enough of a story or feel rushed but this was a superb addendum to the Horselcans series of novels.
This is a collection of stories including one by Adams himself and other leading names of the day in the fantasy / sci fi genre.
They are all well and sympathetically written in relation to the Horsclans world and some are so good they even mirror his writing style.
A brilliant volume and a must for fans.

As is usually the case with anthologies, this is a bit uneven in the quality of the stories. That said, there was only one that I gave up on, although I came close with another one. Twelve stories, including one from Robert Adams, set in the world of the Horseclans and mostly very entertaining.

Robert Adams - the Horseclans, Castaways In Time, all of his others. Superb writing, vivid characters, amazing locations. This is what brought me to love Robert Adams. The same with the writers here, excellent!

The Horseclans series is probably the best blend of fantasy and SiFi I have ever read. Pretty much something for everyone in these books. Great characters, epic storyline, fantastic writings. My highest recommendation

A collection of stories by various authors set in the Horseclans universe. It was decent but I didn't like it as much as the Adams books themselves.

Other authors' take on the Horseclans saga. All very well done. If you are a Horseclans fan, then this book has to be included in your 'to read' pile.

Just one story I didn't like so a good anthology. For anyone who has read any of the Horseclans series I would recommend this book.
