Yvette Where is The Graveyard Book????

message 2: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Donaghy The Graveyard Book was published in 2008. The Goodreads Choice Awards are just for 2009 books.

message 3: by Carla (new)

Carla Where is Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater or City of Glass by Cassandra Clare??? Where are they?

message 4: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) Yes, the above, plus others like Hush Hush, Wings, Prophesy of the Sisters...

message 5: by Danielle (new)

Danielle When You Reach Me is fabulous, but not YA.

message 6: by H.J. (new)

H.J. Harper And Catching Fire? Great choices, but lots of omissions.

message 7: by Donna (new)

Donna It's not on the list, but my favorite was Fire, by Kristin Cashore.

message 8: by Jan (new)

Jan Percival Just One Wish by Janette Rallison, Anything but typical by Nora Raliegh Baskin
and Brooklyn Nine by Alan Gratz are 3 of the best from 2009. don't miss them!

message 9: by Crystal (new)

Crystal I haven't read any of these except for 3 Willows and it wasn't the best book I've read. But, I have heard a lot about If I Stay by Gayle Forman and most of what I heard was good. So I don't know... I wish City of Glass were on this list.

message 10: by Michael (new)

Michael Where are the ghostgirl books??? ghostgirl: Homecoming!

message 11: by Eva (new)

Eva Tricks is the BEST out of any of these! (They used certain statistics to choose which books we are voting by. No one left anyone's books out as a personal decision.)

PageSageRageParker the Mighty (White Chocolate) Where is Leyla's Locket??? It's not a series yet, but there is another coming!!! It is an awesome book!!!

message 13: by Katty (new)

Katty I can't decide between Wintergirls and If I Stay. They're both amazing!

message 14: by Eva (new)

Eva I haven't read Wintergirls so I'm glad you think it's amazing! I love seeing that about books I want to read. I'll have to check out If I Stay too.

message 15: by Pete (new)

Pete Williams What a waste of time. Why are there so many good read authors? What happened to Jason Steed??? The best YA book of the year, who put this list together for young adult, let me guess? an adult!
Why?
I know they cant all be on the list but it looks like the goodread authors have got with goodreads, first it was Amazon now its the authors, what happened to this being a READERS SITE?

message 16: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy Hey Pete, did u get out of yur bed on the wrong side bud? there are hundreds of books they cant use them all, i was suprised not to see the best young adult books they we all talk about all year, some of the titles i never heard of and yes they should have included Jason Steed but anyone who read it knows what is the best book of the year. i will check out the other books on the list but wonder if it is just the authors who vote on there own books, as most of us have not even read them so how can we vote?

But the worst part is i think your right a bit goodreads was 4 us readers but now its gone 4 the others, lets look at the best young adult books

Alex Rider. By Anthony Horowitz
Jason Steed. bt Mark cooper
Cherub. Robert Muchamore
Jimmy Coates. By Joe Craig
Young James Bond. by Charlie Higson
Maximum Rider. Series by James Patterson
Eragon. by Christopher pagolini

What do the above all have in common?
They are all best selling YA novels and world famous authors and all men, so HOW IS IT?? That every single book for 2009 is written by woman and not includes one the above authors? Probably because they are real authors who write great books we like to read and dont have time to come on here like the goodread authors and the poll was added by Jessica, so its not really for young adults its a list for young girls picked by Jessicas friends.
I cant vote have not read any of them.
Goodreads is going down hill.

so pete stay kewl bud happy holidays bud. we can put up our own poll and call it the 'Readers poll of 2009'
Jer

message 17: by Eva (new)

Eva Jessica and her friends didn't pick which books to put up Jeremy. There is actually an explanation somewhere as to how they did it and I'll try to find it for you. If I do find it I'll add a link so you can read it if you'd like.
But GR wouldn't pick one person, no matter who that person is, and allow them to choose which books to let the readers pick from.
Some of these genres I read and some I don't and I don't know which are GR authors or not so I can't comment as to any of that. But I do know that how many times certain books were shelved had a lot to do with if the book got onto the voting list or not.

message 18: by Eva (new)

Eva Also, where did you get the list you came up with?

message 19: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Donaghy The Goodreads Choice Awards polls are not compiled based on market research, an editor's preference, or any one person or group of friends' preference. They are based on Goodreads statistics--how popular a book is on Goodreads and how it is typically shelved. The books listed on the Young Adult Fiction poll have both a high number of ratings and also are strongly shelved as "young-adult." Also, only books published in 2009 are eligible.

message 20: by Jerzy (new)

Jerzy Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco Stork.

message 24: by Carlesme (new)

Carlesme WHERE'S TWILIGHT AND SHIVER AND CITY OF GLASS?
I'VE NEVER HEARD OF ANY OF THESE BOOKS SO I'M NOT VOTING!!!

message 25: by Carlesme (new)

Carlesme Jessica wrote: "The Goodreads Choice Awards polls are not compiled based on market research, an editor's preference, or any one person or group of friends' preference. They are based on Goodreads statistics--how ..."

Well it seems like 99% of us have never even heard of these books, so good luck getting votes.

message 26: by Eva (new)

Eva Carlesme wrote: "Jessica wrote: "The Goodreads Choice Awards polls are not compiled based on market research, an editor's preference, or any one person or group of friends' preference. They are based on Goodreads ..."

I think a lot of ppl are voting. The ppl voting just aren't leaving comments. The ppl leaving comments, for the most past anyway, are the ppl upset about a book not being up there.
But if you look at the polls, they are getting votes because these are the books that were shelved the most.

message 27: by Erica (new)

Erica I had hoped to see Hate List by Jennifer Brown on this list.

I don't know about all of these, Jeremy, but most of the Horowitz and Patterson books and Christopher Paolini's books are all pre-2009. This is an end-of-2009 list.

message 31: by Eva (new)

Eva Tamora wrote: "Jeremy wrote: "Hey Pete, did u get out of yur bed on the wrong side bud? there are hundreds of books they cant use them all, i was suprised not to see the best young adult books they we all talk ab..."

This lists consists of books published in 2009 - all year - not just the end of 2009.

I think Fire should definitely have been on the list.

I thought the selections were determined by the books that were added the most by users as READ. A lot of my favorite books were left off too. But I just thought the ones in the running were again the books added by the most users to the READ catagory of our book lists.

message 34: by Kelsey (new)
