I love reading about these characters. Raine is this adorable mix of scrappy and competent, and it's always fun to see her in action. Tam is getting more and more interesting, though I'm surprised to find myself preferring Mychael. Even the secondary characters make a big impression, there are times when Phaelan comes close to scene-stealing.
Like the previous books in the series, this one is a really fun read. I'm looking forward to the next one already!

Although I'm enjoying this series, there are a lot of things that really bother me when I'm reading it. Firstly, the number of references Raine makes to her acting a certain way because she is part of the Benares family are getting increasingly annoying. Okay, okay, we get it, the Benares family has a bad-ass reputation, can we move on? Another thing that really aggravates me is the number of times that Raine repeats explanations about things she's done in the previous two books... or even withi

The Trouble With Demons irritated me less than the last book. There are fewer information dumps and Raine's witticisms didn't grate on me nearly as much in this book. Heck, I found it just about as enjoyable as the first book, which was a very pleasant surprise. On the other hand, I'm getting really tired of kidnapped teenage spellsingers being a major plot point in every book. Coupled with this is Piaris's girlfriend, whose name I can't even remember, and who doesn't seem to do anything but get

Raine Drops Keep Falling On My Head
Raine Benares was a Seeker with modest magical talents before donning a necklace that bonded her to the soul-sucking rock of unimaginable power known as the Sahgred. Now she's had a few weeks of fending off both the rock's insidious influences and the attempts of the power-hungry to use her or kill her for their own nefarious purposes. This series is not quite either paranormal romance or urban fantasy, but is more pure fantasy with sexual tension. It takes place in the fantasy land of Rheskilia, with this particular book exclusively on the Isle of Mid, which is essentially a university for mages.
Our protagonist is Raine Benares, an elf who has left her family of pirates to become a Seeker, which is basically just a thief-for-hire. In the first book, Raine is hired to steal a necklace, but gets a surprise when tha More...

A girl doesn't expect a simple shopping trip to turn into a living nightmare, but that's what happens to Raine Benares when she spots a demon. An unwilling bond servant to the Saghred, a stone of power that sucks out souls for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Raine has enough on her plate, what with various people, including acting Archmagus Carnades Silvanus, wanting her dead. But a whole lot more is piled on when a powerful dark mage opens a Hellgate. Having demons who want to feast on everyone on

Lisa Shearin is well on her way to becoming one of fantasy's most stellar voices. Great doesn't describe how well done I found this book. It you haven't read this book/series because you don't think that elves, goblins, demons, etc., can't seem real, you are missing a delectable, delightful series that will keep you waiting on edge for the next volume in the Raine Benares story. It you want a modern woman who thinks and acts for herself and earns the respect of her male peers--think Raine. If y

I fell in love with Lisa Shearin's Raine Benares series at the tail end of last year. Shearin's delightful blend of wry humor, high-speed action, and brief moments of sizzling chemistry make for highly enjoyable reads. The only problem being that they end leaving you thirsty for more. THE TROUBLE WITH DEMONS is the third Raine Benares book and has my favorite cover (and title) so far. This girl looks more like the Raine in my head and the title is certainly...apt. There are demons galore in this

Following close on the heels of Armed & Magical, The Trouble with Demons finds Raine Benares facing some problems bigger than ever. As if narrowly escaping an eleven kidnapping plot was not enough, she is one of the first to discover a plethora of multi-colored and heavily-fanged demons running around the Island of Mid. After taking care of a few of the grotesque creatures, Raine is dismayed to learn that these baddies were just the prequel of things to come. An extremely powerful (and equally i

Raine Benares is still dealing with the aftermath of having become attached to the evil stone known as the Saghred. Not only does the elf have to deal with those who want the stone itself for nefarious purposes but there are plenty of mages on the Isle of Mid who want to either imprison her or execute her for her supposed evil machinations. Added to this mix are the two diametrically opposed men in her life, dark mage goblin Tam and white knight and Paladin Mychael, her young protege Piaras, T

A lot of characters made repeat appearances in The Trouble With Demons, and I got excited and impressed with the way that the character of Piaras has grown since Magic Lost, Trouble Found. He has outgrown the "gentleman-in-distress" and filling the role as hero quite nicely.
Lisa Shearin is as sharp as ever in her wickedly wonderful witticisms, and I am giddy with delight as I find them sprinkled throughout the story.

so i took an extra few minutes at lunch today to finish this book. It's always dangerous when I start reading the last 80-100 pages of a Raine Benares book. VERY DANGEROUS. I basically can't put it down and have to keep reading until the last word on the last page.
This book was great. Some things were answered, and yet, there are so many more questions UN-answered that I'm more than anxious to get reading the fourth book. If I could pull an all-nighter without repercussions I would More...

Fan-frickin-tastic. It's been years since I've picked up a series that has made me so excited about knowing what's going to happen next that I've literally squirmed in my seat.
I'm going to start throwing these books at anyone that'll listen (hell they don't even have to listen, I'll just beam someone in the head and they'll be forced to pay attention!), I can't bear that anyone is missing out on them!

This book took me forever to read - not because of the book itself but because I had *just* read the previous book and kind of needed a break from the world.
Having said that, despite the elves and goblins it manages to be fun and semi-unique. (Plus the fact that there have been romance overtones for three books now and it has yet to devolve into smut impresses me.)

The Trouble with Demons is the third release in the Raine Benares series, and the action and story is even more intense than the previous two. Raine is a seeker who can find any object or anyone lost, missing, or kidnapped. For the last two weeks, or the last two books, she has a psychic bond to the Saghred. The Saghred itself is an ancient stone of cataclysmic power, annihilator of Elf armies, stealer of souls, eater of spellsinger’s, and bane of Raine’s existence.

Eh. I am decidedly in the minority here, if the other reviews are indicative of anything. But I just really didn't enjoy this very much. Raine's blustery humor, the two too-good-to-be-true guys who follow her around like puppy dogs and conveniently are the most powerful mages around, the extremely vanilla villains... The super linear plot. The world which is an odd mix of medieval city state and current day and just seems poorly wrought for a fantasy novel. I mean, it's not the worst thing I hav

The Evanovich of urban fantasy. Amusing characters, snarky dialog, romance, light adventure, battles, and blood thirsty demons.

I think this has to be the best one yet. I really enjoyed the demon storyline and I am really coming to treasure some of the characters in this series and the relationships between them. Especially Raine's relationship to her ward, Piarus, whom she sees as a brother figure, and also her bodyguard, Vegard, who says he'll stop calling her "Ma'am" and call her Raine as she's asked him to the day he no longer admires and respects her. What a sweetie pie!

This is the third book in Lisa Shearin's, Raine Benares series, and it picks up where the second one left off. One thing about Shearin's books is they move. The action keeps pushing the characters forward. At times it feels like you and the characters hardly have a moment to catch your breath. However, it makes those scenes where Raine is alone with Tam or Michael, stand out even more. In many ways, I find myself coveting those scenes if only because they're few and far between.

I'd have to agree with Kathleen's review. Lisa Shearin is making a name for herself in the fantasy genre and I wouldn't be surprised if her books started appearing on the NYT Bestseller List with the next couple of books.

It's always a pleasure to sit down and begin a book you know you'll enjoy. It takes a lot of the pressure off, as a reader. You don't have to worry that if you take the book out with you somewhere you'll end up wanting to dump it after five pages and find yourself with nothing to read. Although I read The Trouble with Demons on my day off in a chair outside my house, the point stands: I've looked forward to this book for some time now.

Each book becomes more interesting as we slowly learn more about the many potentially beloved characters.
I have 2 complaints about this series. I want some real romance (the heated glances and very rare smooches need to be imcreased and improved upon, dig? ;) ) and - this is the biggie - Ms Shearin tends to use the same phrases to describe the regular characters in every book. A damned good book. The level of danger escalates in this installment, The Trouble With Demons, as Raine finds more trouble than she can handle...and more surprises. But the girl can kick ass! Nevertheless, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it, more than the first two books, and I can't wait for what's next. Shearin is a talented writer whose works manage to compel, enthrall, and captivate fans of fantasy and adventure. Only complaint is how Raine repeats herself a lot. Otherwise, this is highl

Absolutely mesmerizing!
I think Lisa Shearin adds a bit of magic in her books, and the third book in the Raine Benares series doesn't lack any of it.
In The Trouble with Demons, Raine once again finds herself saving others, but getting into trouble to do it. The chemistry between Raine and Mychael, and Raine and Tam heats up the pages, and I don't envy her that decision.
If you loved the first two books in the series, you won't be disappointed in The Trouble with

I think this is my favorite book of the series, thus far. In The Trouble with Demons, what starts out as a shopping trip ends up becoming something.. a bit more menacing.
Shearin takes things to another level by introducing the Hell Gate and the demons that are a pre-cursor to it. And the Demon Queen.. well, I still gag a bit when I think of the description of her.

Shearin starts right in with the action and tells a great story. I got a little confused at times, but probably because it had been so long since I read the previous book in the series. I think this is a great series for someone who likes fantasy, but finds the straight-up, old-fashioned milady and knight kind sometimes silly. I really like all the characters that the author has created (and accordingly don't like the villains) and can't wait to see what she has in store for them with Bewitche

Again she didn't take the time and effort to change around some of the descriptions or important issues with different type of wording, instead she just copied from the first or second book and pasted it into this one... If she wouldn't have done that the book would have been a little better. She's a good story teller, so there was no need to repeat in exact wording what was being described

I really enjoyed this book, it was the best so far. There was a lot of action, romance, laughter and danger. I have become a big fan of Lisa Shearin in just one month. Raine is a great female character and Mychael and Tam are just dreamy.
I have so much going on that when I read a book I just want to escape. The Trouble with Deamons was just that kind of book. I never thought going to a place with elves, goblins, and demons would be so much fun.

OK. These books are a guilty pleasure for me. The heroine is a funny, great, character. But there is a lot of violence in them, and some sexual references. But the way Shearin is developing these characters makes it so addictive. I can't wait for next year when the next one comes out. I have to know which hero wins her heart.
