About the author

Dorothy Dunnett OBE was a Scottish historical novelist. She is best known for her six-part series about Francis Crawford of Lymond, The Lymond Chronicles, which she followed with the eight-part prequel The House of Niccolò. She also wrote a novel about the real Macbeth called King Hereafter and a series of mystery novels centered on Johnson Johnson, a portrait painter/spy.

Sono stata molto indecisa, alla fine della lettura, se questo libro mi abbia convinto oppure no.
Da un lato, è una buona conclusione della trama che si è dipanata per i cinque libri precedenti, dove finalmente i nodi della storia di Lymond vengono al pettine e si intersecano con quelli della storia, per lo meno alla conclusione che l'autrice vuole dare (si prospettano altri tempi, in futuro, per la Scozia, e chissà dove finirà Lymond).

Dall'altra la storia d'amore di Lymond e Philippa con i suoi tira e molla dura 600 pagine di troppo, anche in maniera forzata, con personaggi che continuano a metterci il becco e che potevano tranquillamente farsi un pacco di cazzi loro. Mi piacevano anche prima di questo libro, ma certe scelte narrative e la lungaggine solo per finire con un semplice lieto fine mi hanno completamente ammosciato.
